[q] att sim gt-i9300 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all.
I have had a friend give me a phone from China. This was already running CM10 when I got it and was the international version of the SIII . I have a work iPhone and took the ATT SIM out and placed it in it. I understand I cannot get LTE connection with this device... but the SIM did not appear to be recognized. I looked and there does not appear to be any unlock process for this phone with this software and I did not believe it was SIM locked as the owner told me he slapped regional SIMs in it when he traveled.
Does this imply hardware failure or am I missing something stupid here?

Hey THanks for the reply. Any suggestions as to how I can try alternate SIMS. Shoudl I walk into ATT and ask they replace the SIM for my IPhone as it is not working in other phones or should I buy a smart talk prepaid SIM or something. Any suggestions. Sorry for the seemingly stupid questions.
Regards.

I tried two att sims with no lucka nd one tmo. I took it to a shop where theyb replaced the reade and still no dice. Technician claimed bad radio flash, but the networks are seen... seems like sim reader. The other thing I noticed is that the device says wcdma on in. I know the chia carrier is gsm and the phone is supposed to be. Any thoughts?

not to resurrect but....
So I have had some updates. I took it to a local shop who attempted to replace the reader and said that a new one had the same issue. I then spoke with my friend who gave it to me and he mentioned some CM issue with SIMs being recognized. I updated the ROM and it worked well for a couple of days. THen I started having intermittant instances of the same issue..... until it completely recurred again.
I have taken it appart and resat the connection (thinking the repair guy didnt do it well and maybe that was my issue) but had no differnt results. I have tried a new ROM (SlimKat) and a couple of Kernels. I have not gotten into modem flashing yet as I am still trying to parse and understand the data there.
The Repair guy thought the modem was misflashed and that the installer who flashed CM11 messed it up. He suggested getting a Stock carrier ROM on there. I thought he was full of it and did not know what he was talking about... esp considering there is no domestic (US) carrier image for the 9300.
Thoughts or options? I have an i747 that I have been using but it does not have an unlocked SIM yet and I have been struggling to make that happen (EVEN WITH A CARRIER PROVIDED CODE??!!!).
Thanks in advanced for any assistance/insight you can provide.
Regards

Flashing CM doesn't touch the modem, most asop roms don't.
Try flashing stock which should reset everything.

Trying to reflash my galaxy s ii

So I managed to flash my galaxy s ii the other day because I was having issues with my internet and wanted to find out if it was samsungs firmware causing the issue, or the phone, or just at&t.
Well long story short, it flashed fine, but same horrible speeds. At this point I want to take the things back to at&t and tell them to give me a new one, but obviously the second they see it rooted they wont help anymore.
So I went into the boot menu and told it to restore, that seems to work fine, but then when it tries to make calls there is no sound at all not even a dial tone, but everything else seems to work fine.
I had this issue with several other roms also. I tried finding the at&t samsung gingerbread firmware for my device, but all I can find is firmware for other countries.
Is there an U.S AT&T gingerbread firmware/roms for the galaxy s ii on here that I somehow missed? Thanks.
Also mine appears to be a GT-i19100, I saw some info about reflashing it but all of them had like letter at the end of the model and I dont see that anywhere on mine.
Actually I pulled the battery and it appears its a SGH-I777, so I guess im in the wrong thread, sorry

So I went to the link, followed the guide on the site and it didnt work. When I open up odin and hit start it does nothing. I tried using the zip file in the boot menu to install the rom and that didnt work either, just failed.
I eventually went into recovery mode and this worked, but at the boot screen I still have the yellow exclamation mark and it says I9100, is there any way to get rid of that?

In any case you'd probably be better off sticking to i777 ROMs.
Im actually more confused than I was before, I actually just switched from AT&T to tmobile. Now my phone can make calls fine, but I cant get on a data network.
Any clue why?

You still using the i777?
My guess is that your APNs are still set to AT&T.
Also, even if you do get mobile data working, you'll probably be limited to Edge speeds since the two networks use different frequencies for mobile data.

And thats something that cant be changed? I learned a long time ago to take what sales people say with a grain of salt, they were telling me since both the tmobile galaxy s 2 and the at&t version are both 4g phones it will work if flashed right.
But then again they didnt even know what data throttling is
I found a section in my phone in the mobile network settings for network operators, and tmobile is listed, once they finally port my number over in 24 hours I will give that a shot and see if it works. Other wise I will probably be buying the htc one.

Nope can't be changed on the i777. The i727 can apparently be flashed to work on T-mobile's 4g, but not the i777. It's a hardware issue.

[Q] Mobile Data Not Working - Galaxy S3

Hey,
I was playing around with a few Custom ROMS today, and my mobile data stopped working. The APN settings are correct. I have flashed multiple ROMS but no luck. Even stock ICS ROM. I think I have the wrong modem/baseband combination.
My phone show H+ or 3G icon, but as soon as I try to use the internet, it vanishes. Wifi works fine.
Any ideas?
Seems like incorrect apn.. but you already say it's correct..

Yes the APN is correct.
Could someone possibly tell me which firmware I should flash? I purchased my phone from Pakistan, but I'm not sure which region it is for. Will that make a difference?
Something happening with this phone. I had the same issue a few weeks later.
I tryed almost every modem available unsuccessful. Just my local carier can solve. I didn't known what they did, but solved until now.
Although your apn settings may be correct, they may need updating.
This sometimes happes in the uk.
Maybe if you tried deleting the apn settings out and then ringing your carrier network up, and asking them to sent your correct apn settings to your phone, maybe this could help.
Its not a dead cerainty but always got to be worth a shot mate
If you dont like the THANKS button then just click it to make it dissappear
this ****ing thing is also happning with my non rooted s3...

Had the same issue with my GS3 (I9300) after switching from those Straight Talk Bastards to AT&T:
Whereas Straight Talk simply f*cked up b/c of a collapse of their data network, so I assume (with nobody at ST saying a word for 2 days, of course.. ), it turned out that AT&T actually had deleted my new account - by mistake - after just one week of 'happy browsing'.
A trip to the local AT&T store solved the mystery and got me up & running again.
Unfortunately, though, it took the AT&T folks a while to figure it out, as they are not used to unbranded/international/ unlocked phones wanting to join their US network. (Don't even try to solve this over the phone, if you have a choice).
Kudos to the AT&T staff, though, as they got the problem resolved eventually. It definitely helped a great deal that my phone had been working just fine on their network just a week ago, so I was able to stand my ground and insist that the problem was at their end.
One of the reps - apparently without a clue - tried to tell me all sorts of BS, e.g. that the I9300 would not work on AT&T; that some Samsung phones supposedly don't work with their network... bla bla blub blub...
Fortunately, I knew better and told him so. Otherwise, he may have successfully gotten rid of me; making me search for the problem someplace else (a.k.a. giving me the run-around or making me chase my tail, etc. :banghead: )
Thanks to xda (and the Internet), however, I had all the knowledge necessary to make sure they get it back to work. Now I'm browsing the web again with 7Mbps Down/3Mbps Up speeds, using AT&T's really fast HSPA+ network here in the Chicago Northern Suburbs (close to O'Hare)... Yay!
Good Luck with finding the problem with your data loss issue!!
P.S.: Let me know if you need my APN settings; just for comparison (.. in case you are in the US, too).
Cheers,
AA

[Q] UNBELIEVABLE issue

Had a Rezound from Asurion running 4.03.605 and Hboot 2.27. All was well. Left Los Angeles on 12/21. Arrived the next day in the Bay Area on 12/22. And since then? Not able to make or recive a call. All else works: 4G, internet, texting. Just calls. On the phone with Verizon for 1 hour, resettting all data info to my account and phone, no luck. Two hours in store getting new SIM and resetting system...no luck. Another Asurion replacement sent....new SIM card and THE SAME THING! Issue was escalated to Verizon networking team and I spent two hours on the phone yesterday trying to determine issue. Now if the SIM card and all matching items (IMEI) matched up, it should all work, right? The same SIM card was put into two different rezounds...one rooted, one not (fresh out of box) and neither could make a call. The tech finally stated that the software on the phones was the global leak of 4.03 and not a release authorized by Verizon...my reaction - "What?" The tech went so far as to suggest installing the last global leak - 4.05 and new radios and see what happens. Did just that...AND STILL NOTHING. Phone is perfect. Just no phone. Call goes out, connects, then lost. Same for incoming. No one seems to have a solution except blaming the phone software, tower differences between here and L.A....on and on. I find it all BS....because if the plder 4G SIMS are not compatibile, wouldn't many people across the USA have issues? So I come to ask for some of your thoughts. I am plagued right now. Have lost income due to my lack of access and reachability. And being two months shy of my anniversary for an upgrade, the great Corporation will not budge and get me a new working phone. This is a nightmare. I only imagine that as soon as I get back to Los Angeles, the phone will "miraculously" work again.
FYI: I had my original Rezound running 4.05 and Hboot 2.28 back in July 2013...came to the same trip LA->Bay Area. Never had a problem.
Thanks for your time all!
New Sim and different phone with same issues really points to the issue being with the carrier... Not much you can do unfortunately.

ust outta curiosity...do you have data roaming and everything enabled under mobile network settings...that would be my only guess....if not then yes it is verizon...the fact that on 2 seperate phones there is an issue is what gives it away...there is a leaked hboot and radios of hboot 2.28 and the 2.23 radios but idk if this will help your issue

Of the two phones I have in my possesion, one is total stock 4.03.605.....wiped it clean. No calls. The other phone I hacked with Hboot 2.28 and the current radios + 4.05 software....still nothing. A lot of what the senior tech told me is that no phones use those big old SIM cards anymore. Heck, he couldn't even find ONE store that a similar phone I could swap my SIM into in order to see if a call could be made. 1 week now with no phone and no restitution from Verizon. All they want to do is seed me to the Edge program. No dice. I'm fighting this to the end It's clear as day this problem is WAY beyond my control or the phones....all on VZW.

OR....you can get a micro sim from them and buy a microsim to normal sim adaptor like this one http://www.walmart.com/ip/Small-Min...-Adapter-For-iPhone-4-4S-4GS-4th-Gen/28911641 ....im actually doing this currently with a straight talk microsim in the rezound....but again did you ensure all roaming settings are enabled under settings>mobile networks

Done it all with the roaming settings, thanks. But as we all surmise, it's Verizon's problem...old phone can't connect with current networks. They need to admit this and get me a new phone.
8 days with no phone capability and counting.
Just tell then it's your work phone, and that you need it for your job or else. Even most prepaid companies like SraightTalk would replace it of it was your work phone. ST even upgrades you, because it is their fault and not yours.

[Q] No Service or Mobile Network on any Sim :(

Hey guys I've spent the last few days reading old threads about using the i545 on USA GSM Carriers.
I bought a Bad ESN Verizon Galaxy S4 on eBay. From what Ive been reading these phones come factory unlocked and i figured I would
buy one to use on T-Mobile.
I have tried countless things now and for some reason all I get in the status bar is a circle with a line through it.
I have tried various APN settings found around older threads but still i get no signal.
I rooted and installed the newest hyperdrive and still nothing.
Ive even tried an AT&T sim & an old Orange Sim I have lying around for these testing situations.
They both show a circle with a line through the middle and when I try to make a call it just says "Mobile Network Not Available"
If I remove sim and power on the phone it states there is No Sim Installed.
I am running Hyperdrive RLS15 with 4.3 MK2
I've heard that if a phone is blacklisted it cannot be used in the USA on any carrier is that true? and if so why are some users stating they bought a bad esn phone and works fine on GSM US Carriers? I am really confused decided to make an account and maybe get some more insight.
Thank You guys!
Any XDAers have any suggestions?
Anything would be appreciated, Thank you guys again
I apologize for the self bumpage, I dont now what else to do.
This is my final bump, Should I just resell on ebay?
How can you even use this phone can it be flashed to any service or used anywhere?
tried at&t and t-mobile sims with apn settings to no avail just a circle with a line through it on the status bar.
Thanks
Peace

Thanks man, I guess I didnt want to face this truth,
Is it SOL internationally as well? Wondering if i can state that if I try to resell it on ebay.
Since im honestly dubious this thing works anywhere, is there a global IMEI database?

Possible GSM use on XT1526? Flashed TextNow Moto E with USC ROM - no success..

To be clear, I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, and no experience whatsoever with any of this.
Over 12 hours of research I managed to unlock the bootloader, root, and flash my TextNow Moto E with a stock US Cellular ROM. Everything worked fine.
What are the next steps to take, if any? Is it possible to even use a GSM network on this phone? I have an active T-Mobile sim card that the phone simply will not accept. I get a "no sim found" notification.
I attempted this with no success.
To start, su command would not work.
This worked for me on the XT1529, but it might work on the XT1526 as well since they're both LTE/CDMA devices:
root, open /system/build.prop, add the following line to the end: ro.telephony.default_network=10
save, make sure the permissions are still 0644, reboot.
When you check *#*#4636#*#* it should be in LTE/GSM/CDMA mode, and in Settings > Mobile Network it should say "Global".

This didn't work. I ended up experimenting more and softbricked my phone, got stuck in a boot loop. Through curiosity I ended up flashing the phone with a stock xt1527 rom. SIM now recognized as a non supported sim, so that's nice. Still doesn't work.
I cannot post links to screens as a new user, but if you happen to want to see them, message me and I'll link them from my dropbox.
I ended up ordering an unlocked xt1527 last night. However, I would still like to figure this out. Would I perhaps have to flash the modem?

Just tested this - not working. This is a really maddening scenario
I contacted sprint and gave them the IMEI - they tell me that this phone can indeed be unlocked (xt1526), but I would have to do it through TextNow. I've searched for ways to bring up the SIM unlock prompt, but it simply doesn't show up with any of the methods found. :s

I still have my sprint model as well, and have the MSL code. But I have also never found a way to enter it for unlock. I've tried using active ATT and VZW SIMs, and also tried flashing the USC modem on it - still works on sprint / ringplus, but also still won't acknowledge ATT or VZW SIMs.

I don't know for sure, but i did read in another place on here somewhere about an "embedded card" that sprint put in another phone. I wonder if that is the case with this one? If not, all i can really think of is that there is something in place that motorola made specifically for the sprint model. We know its not modem related, so it must be somewhere else, in the NAM, or something like that. One thing i did accomplish was to get another bar, (it had no signal and looked like an outline, but it was there), show up by editing the build prop with a specific line and then rebooting. Odd thing is, its the same thing that showed up when i attemped to flash another stock firmware. The firmware i flashed was for the xt1526, retail us. Which leads me to think it might be a band issue, as someone else mentioned in another thread on here somewhere. I mean, it would make sense with the no signal and everything. Sorry for the long post, just thinking out loud i guess.

Yes, I'm hoping there is a fix somehow. I'm ok to use the phone on WiFi, but it is otherwise useless to me. I'd like to have a backup phone in case my first Moto E dies, they are really rugged. I have experimented all day without success. Experimenting with build.prop does nothing. I export the build.prop text and post it just for reference, if anyone cares to play with it.

I talked to Sprint - they told me TextNow has to SIM unlock the device. I talked to TextNow - They told me the device IS SIM unlocked. So, there's that if anybody is wondering. I've almost abandoned this experiment, but it's still in the back of my mind. In other news - the new Moto E 2015 I received has a yellowed display. 2/3 brand new Motorola devices I received had display issues. Excellent phones, poor quality control it seems.

i got my E2015 from textnow for $10 as a refurb and its solid as a rock so far. I stumbled upon this thread and it looks promising, but im at work and we use citrix clients and not actual computers so i cant run it here, but ill give it a whirl when i get home. I do also believe that its GSM unlocked
Trying to make my XT1526 (Boost stock ROM) work with GSM, and got stuck on something weird. Inserted a SIM card from China Mobile, changed the network mode to "Global" and turned on roaming, after a while it got successfully registered on T-Mobile network, both voice and data. Yet, when I inserted a T-Mobile SIM card, the phone gave an "Invalid SIM card" error, and simply refused to connect. Thought it might be an issue with APN setting, but I couldn't manually add the T-Mo APN to the phone (in fact it wouldn't take any APN).
I think the phone's hardware is capable of LTE/CDMA/GSM. It's a just matter of figuring out the right configuration.

thats a DSU issue. Domestic sim unlock can be tricky

Why so tricky? Why? I am truly of no help, I just started the thread. Learning as I go...funny thing. Upon flashing again with the xt1527, and flashing the modem with a different modem software, the phone still shows to be a sprint modem software.
I wonder if the "fastboot oem config carrier" option would do any good?
DSU is tricky because it involved modifying the NV values thats buried in the radio software and it has a similar access issue to SU. I have (among many others) a Sprint S5 (G900P) and achieving DSU on it was the work of some SERIOUS developers. The config carrier might be of some help, but i havent delved into it yet, and im not sure if id fully understand what it means anyways. Additionally, Moto devices are tricky period. I had 2 Razrs (one xt 912 and one xt910), one of them was GSM unlockable and the other wasnt. Motorola mobile phone division has also changed hands recently, so its direction has also changed. Basically, whats needed here is either a ton of forum scouring or a developer to actually pay attention to this device, or a bit of both
