I am thinking about switching a couple of my DINC 4g phones over to KitKat. What seems to be the smoothest and glitch free ROM out there? My understanding is that these KitKat roms take away the ability to switch to GSM when outside of the USA. What other glitches have folks run into? Too bad not more is happening on this great little phone.
All latest cyanogenmod (I use New nightly 4.4.4 kit Kat) works great if you want use dinc 4g with gsm network you must only flash simple gsm fix, I don't have any single random reboots, everything works perfect, smooth and fast. Only battery drain is little more then original Verizon Rom, but still acceptable
Wysłane z mojego Incredible 4G LTE
I switched to a Moto Razr Droid for a couple weeks until I couldn't take the sluggishness anymore. I found a well documented method to s-off and root the D4g, and took plunge. Like you, I wasn't sure how to find the most stable alternative to the HTC rom, so I picked CM 10.2 (4.3.1) from the CM download site and I couldn't be happier. I haven't noticed any downsides from the stock rom, and I just ordered an extended battery to address any power issues.(My stock battery was already draining in less than 8 hours with stock).
Since this is my main phone, I wasn't interested in a lot of experimenting. I have installed some unofficial CM 11 build on my original Dinc, but I personally think 4.3.1 worked better on that phone. I keep it in airplane mode and use it for occasional games, and the extended battery will last for weeks if it's not being used. It's amazing.
I think I will put CM 11 on my son's phone. All my family but me a running DINC4g phones except me. I wound up being sent a DNA from HTC when they were out of parts to fix a power connection on one of my DINC4gs. The battery life on the DNA is absolutely horrid after the update to KitKat. I rooted that one last night and put the latest Viper on it. If power continues to be an issue I will also go back to the DINC4g.
Eventually I will likely move all the DINCs to 4.4. It seems that that the CM developers are close and have a good rom now. I would suspect a stable release is not too far away. Thanks for your thoughts on this!

Alright folks, I don't have a Droid Razr, but my girlfriend does. Guess who gets to deal with it when she has issues...
So I don't know a whole lot about this phone. I know she is on stock ICS (Don't know which build) on her Droid Razr for Verizon. She says ever since she updated to ICS, she can hardly go a full day on her battery, which is what I've been hearing. For some reason, this build of ICS doesn't have the ability to turn off 4G or something, and it eats her battery. Since I've been running CM9/10/10.1 on my phone, I guess I just took for granted what stock users apparently don't have.
I was thinking of rooting via this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119321
And installing the latest safestrap. I was wondering if JB gets better battery life over ICS. On my Samsung Epic 4G (I must have a keyboard), it seems to do a little better, but on GB I lasted almost 2 days without charge.
I prefer the cutting edge on roms and whatnot, regardless of errors. She needs a fully functioning phone that she doesn't have to tinker with. So I guess I need to ask, are there any good roms on battery that are stable? Any other suggestions?
Okay
I have a Motorola Droid Razr Maxx XP912 and have been using the rooted Verizon Blur 4.1.2. Yeah it is jelly bean and it is nice, but I wanted 4.3 and since the CyanogenMod 10.2 worked so well on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5113, I wanted to use the same kind of ROM on my phone.I just love this CM10 ROM. It is good looking and so highly customizable that I cannot help but to love it. The good part is now in my tablet, I check for updates and Cyanogen will make updates available OTA and my tablet is always up to date and rocking.
(I broke the dammed digitizer outter glass once, got a new replacement on eBay for $21 and was happy as a clam. Doncha know I dropped it two days ago on way to doctor and broke it all over again? Another digitizer is on the way from China again, takes about 6 weeks to get here and is not that bad to replace.)
This rooted Verizon Blur ROM is great, does what I want, with Titanium and Greenify, I have gotten better at making it behave better, but I am stuck and cannot get updates for it, OTA has been disabled or I will lose my root. What I want is CM10.x for it. Tried 10.2, Safe Strap installed it easily with gapps, but no data service. Had to go back to CM10.1, now I got data and phone again. But a lot of my favorite and essential apps do not work anymore, like Wireless Tether for Root Users and some others like MeContacts. Now I find out from a decent fellow the following:
cyanogenmod has stop develop all phone with old OMAP...include our razr
We'll never see an official CM11 or a new stable 10.2
Oh crap, my favorite ROM and my phone are just never going to walk down the isle together. CyanogenMod with a Razr phone is not ready for prime time and it never will be. Shame, I spent days on making it the way I want it and was SO happy with myself, until I began to see way too many thing not work anymore.
I am on disability and money is forever a problem. Verizon would love to get me to update my phone, but always want to charge me like $200 to do it and then take another 2 year contract. The digitizer outter glass on this Razr has a very tiny crack but it is hardly noticeable and works quite well. So, what's it going to be? Update the phone to a better one (This one is slowing down pretty badly, does not run super fast like when it was new. Too many apps are always updating needing more horsepower and memory.) or pick a good ROM that I will like, that offers updating and new versions like CM, OR, update to a better phone and if so, what kind will be good and be around for a while? The Samsung Galaxy looks pretty sweet, big screen and a LOT of horsepower. What would you guys suggest?
I know, I know, I will get hundreds of different answers to this but the more, the merrier. Bring it on folks, what would you do? I am itching to get on with this so be forthcoming, please? What other ROMS are good for a Razr Maxx XT912 that would give me Jelly Bean 4.3, are very customizable, and produce regular updates and maybe even an updater service like Cyanogen is now offering? I love the fact that I can go to Settings/About, and check for new versions and updates and Cyanogen updates OTA. I cannot do this with my Verizon rooted 4.1.2 blur ROM or I will lose root and it is getting harder and harder to find exploits to gain root again. And NO, I do not want my phone to look or act like an iPhone!
Opinions, suggestions, personal experiences guys, please?
Try unofficial KitKat by dhacker or carbon or slim rom, all found in dev section
Edit : Carbon has the most modification options, it's worth a try
Tapped from my RazR
I'm not sure where you got that info about no stable CM10.2,but its not true. There WILL be a stable 10.2 for every device currently running nightlies.

On last post 3G confirmed for Working!
install safe strap and so you can partition the phone and try out a bunch of roms without wiping your current. it's really handy. i prefer cm10.1.
Getting Real sick & tired of the Optimus G, thinking seriously about selling it & getting an LG G3 or an HTC ONE M8, ever since KK ROMS came to the picture, kernel development & ROM development have been slow, now i'm facing issues with screen, when swiping in the drawer it freezes on every single swipe i make, no mods no additional kernels the lag & battery drainage it's just.... terrible, used of recommended GAPPS, LG is so stubborn not releasing the stock e970 ROM, by the time we get the update, Nexus or other devices would have something even greater than "android L" like always devices get left behind, don't know why google said no device will ever get left behind ever again... oh yeah sure!! say that to the mayor stubborn carriers that take so long to push the OTA'S like always AT&T -.-
Yeah, well... just expresing how i feel about the device now lol sick of the 4.4.4 ROMS JB was the best that work on my device & had stellar performance & battery. now it's just crap. Switching to 4.4.2 stock port. only good KK ROM for the E970.

Sounds like you might have a lemon/broken phone. If you hate it, yes, ditch it. But many people (me included) are quite happy with the OG. I've tried a bunch of ROMs, and most were mostly okay, but I've been running CM milestones and nightlies for several months now with little trouble. In fact, performance has been good, by my standards, and the battery still lasts all day with moderate use. I've only had the thing for about 9 months but I'm usually at least thinking about upgrading or what to get next by this point - not so with the OG.
I'll probably start looking at other phones when I get super bored some day next winter, maybe a used G3 or some HTC, who knows. As for the development, I haven't been reading much here lately because I haven't had problems or time and energy to tinker. But I've been very happy with the help here and have found the OG devs to be eminently qualified. (I have never posted here much but I've been reading the site for years, through about 6 different devices. All my questions had usually already been answered before I could ask them, and I am not a developer.)
Sorry the E970 hasn't worked out as well for you as for some. Good luck with whatever you decide on.

went to 4.3 the issue for me is KK they don't work for me, only KK ROM that work is gorabus excellent dev one thing i forgot to mention, it's not that i'm hating on the development on this thred it's just that i feel limited & hate limitations, have you've seen the Nexus community? most of the known devs that were making ROMS for this device jumped out. i just miss the good old days :/ might keep the phone for an emergency phone or something phone works it's just KK issue, ever since [4.4.2-4.4.4]. but i'm definitely getting a newer device.

I feel the same. I had Nexus 4 but sold it to buy a Nexus 5, dropped the Nexus 5 on my motorcycle... switch back to the Optimus G after replacing the screen twice (both times my fault). But my OptimusG keeps kicking. The CM11 20140802 build has been good to me, everything from M6 - to a recent nightly on CM11 was flaky for me (UI issues). Thanks to the folks @ CM this includes the fixed encryption fstab so I can feel secure again without having to hack up a ROM manually.
You can't really expect LG to update a 2 year-old phone. There is almost no incentive for them to do so when most people don't care. I'm waiting for the next Google nexus phone. Buying anything other then a Nexus product or something like the Galaxy S5 will put you down the same path again.
The stock KK port is decently usable.. I'm switching to it as well
This has become pretty much a legacy device but still better than most older phones.
Sent virtually over my LG 'Nexus' G
I am using this Rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2771440
[ROM][E970/E971/E973]LG Official Kitkat 4.4.2[stock].
Stock KK for the LG and it has been great. From eco mode to notification light to battery and qslide apps everything works and battery has been pretty well. So yeah CM11 KK or CM Kitkat roms in general for the lg g aren't very stable in my experience and have not really good battery life. But this stock kitkat Rom is much better and really doesn't give me a huge reason to switch to an different phone despite having a OnePlusOne and a Xperia Z2. I would say the LG G still holds up very well against all of them.
Sent from my LG-F180K aka LG e970 using XDA mobile app
I have to agree. I have also been using the stock kitkat port, this rom here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2771440
And it's been fantastic for me overall.
Didn't use many custom roms as it hasn't been a long time since I got this phone.
I rooted it on ics and installed this kitkat rom. Then I tried Slick JB rom but i ended up coming back to this rom again due to the smoothness and stability. Haven't had one crash.
Well yes if this phone did receive an official KitKat update, it would still be a beast. But you can't really blame a device for underperforming based on the ROM development, those are people who volunteered their time to put ROMS on this device especially since the LGOG is almost approaching an age of 2 years.
I've been using CM 11 and it has worked great, vanilla android is the way to go its simple and fast. But I understand that many users (including myself) love the theming aspect of a phone that makes it look like its officially from the brand (ex. TouchWiz or Sense). LG has its unique theme on their successors such as the G2 or G3 and it would great on a KK update to the LGOG.
But its really up to the user on what phone they really want. The LGOG is still fast but if you upgrade now all you'll be really getting is a faster, bigger, and better camera. But still the OG is pretty beast
Yeah I like my LGOG but it's time for me anyways to move on up the ladder. I did my Samsung stint but I like the underdog LG. So I'm getting a G2. Actually got 2 of them I'm repairing. I like the themes CM has to offer but LG's stock interface is really cool. Just my 2 cents.
So I am selling my HTC One m8 and going back to my LG Optimus G until I get a new one. Some of my apps require 4.3 and above so stock rom is out. I need a stable Rom to use as my daily driver. After reading most of what is out there right now it seems they all have their quirks. This phone is getting old and it seems to be losing support. I am just looking for opinions.
If you truly need rock stable ROMs, don't flash custom stuff - go stock. That said, my experience with beanstalk and liquid smooth on 4.4 has been very good, completely daily driveable for me. LS on 5.0 has also been fine, assuming you can live without xposed. Just switched to candy 5.0 today, and so far so good.
Calls, texts, GPS, camera and data all work. There are occasional little glitches, but if you can't live with those don't flash custom ROMs.
I can't go stock, it is only 4.1. I need 4.3 or above. I will look the others you suggested, thanks.
So I have been using beanstalk for about 12 hours. In that time the phone had shut down 4 times, has had some weird alert issues and has been laggy and Unresponsive. This must be my bad luck. I will try liquid smooth next.
I finally got my Incredible 4G LTE to S_off. I flashed recovery to TWRP then tried to flash CM 11 Nightly for Fireball. The flash failed with the message "error updating updater binary in zip file". Fixes suggested included installing a dffferent recovery. I didn't want to do that so installed CM 10.2.1. That worked and it is running but the radio signal indicator was showing a low to no signal. I found this thread that indicates that is cosmetic and that the signal is as strong as before. I haven't noticed any issues with the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485091
has anyone seen this? Is it fixed in a later version of CM?
Have you tried any other ROMs besides CM?
Not yet. CM on this phone isn't yet 24 hrs old. I probably will live with it at least for the next few days since I am on call this weekend. The phone seems to work just fine otherwise.
Do you have any recommendations for a new ROM ? I am fairly new to Android, and very new to rooting in general. I see the team viper ROMs are discontinued. I also see this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933539
which is a mod of the stock ROM and of course I could in theory restore the stock ROM that I backed up.

While the ViperLTE ROM isn't supported anymore, it still works great. I have been using 2.2.0 (with the Infernal4.1 Kernel) as my daily driver for well over a year. The customizations over stock are great, and the Infernal Kernal adds Swipe2Wake. But, I like HTC Sense. CM is a better choice if you don't particularly care for Sense.
Unfortunately, this phone was the bastard, left-handed, red-headed step-child, thrice removed Verzion castoff that received very little support from Verizon and HTC. The launch was jacked-up, Verizon nixed the HTC Dev unlock for this phone, and root took a long while. As a result, there are not a lot of ROMs or support for it. I am very thankful to the small community that was able to achieve the unlock, s-off and the few ROMs, Kernels and recoveries that we do have.

Yeah, I am learning that as I go. However the phone was free, and I was in a slightly better spot than most cause if I bricked it I could always fall back to my iPhone if I had to. Besides, I learned a lot in the last 10 days. for now at least I will stick with CM and see what happens. It works here around my house, and I am not planning to far this weekend. Next week if I decide to I can try something else.

Good price I bought mine on day of release, and I am still quite happy with it. I have not seen anything out there yet that has a nice small form factor that would be worth changing to. Plus, I still have an unlimited data plan and I'm not inclined to give that up anytime soon. I would be more likely to pick up another "new" Dinc4 at this point if something were to happen to this one.
Well I have built PacRom and LiquidSmooth for this so feel free to give them a go. They both have working data so if you're looking for a stock Google then you should try it if you're S-OFF
Thanks for these 2 new options!!!!!!
