Just installed Cyanogen along with google apps. I was under the impression that once google is installed, my contacts would be imported automatically once I entered my email. That's not the case though and for the life of me I can't seem to import them at all.
What am I missing here?

Unfortunately not. Since the Vibrant I guess I stupidly assumed all roms would sync automatically.
Any ideas? Is it supposed to sync automatically with google installed? Just trying to figure it out.

did you have your contacts synced onto google's servers BEFORE installing CM?
Not sure if this really works

Yes, definitely. My contacts are permanently on google within my gmail account.
I've since had to flash back to an older rom as I had to go out and needed my contacts on there. From what I saw though I'd absolutely love to go back to CM7 asap (it's beautiful) so I really want to find a solution to this. Cause while I can now back up my contacts on my sim or vcard then put them on CM7, what's gonna happen when I'm constantly adding new names (which I do daily)? I don't want to have to manually keep backing my contacts up.
Isn't google apps supposed to take care of that on CM7? I'm just thinking that something is off with my setup. Surely CM7 is supposed to constantly sync your contacts (like all other roms) once google apps is installed, no?
Edit: I got it sorted out. Google apps wasn't installing properly before. It works perfectly now.
Hello.
So yesterday strange thing happened. I took my phone, and noticed that it has wrong photos for some of the contacts. I looked deeper, and found out that all Google photos disappeared.
For example. There is a contact, which is synced with Google Contacts. Google Contacts has a photo uploaded, which was the one used in my phone as the main contact photo. This contact also has Facebook, Skype, Google+ and other social network linked to it. When I try to set the default photo in contact setting, there is no option to select Google Contacts photo, which was there earlier.
I checked Google Contacts, if photos are still there - and they are.
I tried restarting phone, deleting some extra files (couldn't start Image Gallery, because there was not enough space. Eventually I had some major problems with my SD card yesterday, but it seems, that they are gone now), stopped Contacts app, and cleared its data.
I'm out of ideas as to how to fix this.
I'm on XWLSE for Ukraine.
Exactly the same thing happened to me today. Apart from manually putting photos back on the phone's contact app or restoring from a backup I don't have a solution.

It does not help. It was among the first things I tried. I tried disconnecting other accounts from a particular contact to see if something will change, but it did not.
I wonder if I am not the only one with such problem, and it happened yesterday - maybe or was caused by some application update, which happened yesterday? For example Skype.

I also updated Skype and didn't have those problems. Try this: go to Contacts > Menu > contacts to display > and then set to only Google. I have this configuration and it runs without problems

I've updated firmware to XWLSW via ODIN without wipe - did not help.
Decided to play with contacts a bit more. unlinked all of the other accounts such as skype, facebook, etc. - did not help.
Then I went to contacts.google.com and reused the same pictures for those contacts that I set them for long time ago.
And that fixed the problem.
I then decided to sync my contacts with facebook (emails) and that took me half a day to figure out how to do it correctly.
Now, I reconnected skype and facebook accounts, but for some reason I don't see some of the Skype/Facebook contacts in the list. They are not linked with my google contacts for the same people, and I can't find it in the list. Strange things happen..

On my Galaxy Note 2 exactly the same happens, maybe a week now. After I have restarted my phone, all my contact photos were gone, but not from gmail. I had to clear cache for contacts and contacts memory to load photos again, but after some time they were gone again.
This happend to me about 4 times. Now I think Skype is causing this. If I do not start it, everything looks OK for 2 days now. Before, after phone restart, I have manually started Skype and after some short time contact photos were gone. Perhaps you could test that on your phone.

Same problem here. Deleting the google account was the only thing that helped -- for two days. The pictures even "survived" Skype synchronisation.
Two days later: same problem again.

I guess two days later Skype updated their app, and it happened again.
Here is the proof that it is happening because of Skype:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2351825
No, it happened definitely BEFORE I downloaded the update - and exactly two days after I reactivated the syncrhronisation option in Skype.
AFTER downloading and installing the latest version the contacts disappared, reappeared, disappeared and reappeared again (maybe the regrouping of the contacts in google helped the reappearing but I think the last time they disappeared/reappeared magically I haven't changed any settings).
It is definately Skype on my phone. I had it turned off for some days, yesterday I had to make a call with Skype and my contact photos were gone again. Turned off Skype, cleared contacts cache, synced google and everything is ok again.
same thing happened to me today
Any ideas How to fix it?
Does anyone else have a problem using the G3 and saving contacts? I have a Bumbped Verizon G3, and my Girlfriend has the T-Mobile G3, but BOTH of us are unable to SAVE new contacts. I have ben usuing/Flashing android since the OG Droid and have never had a problem with my google account, but it just strikes me odd as we've never had problems until we've been using the G Series phones.
Does anybody else have this problem? Any Ideas?
I'm Running Skydragon Also. I like to stay as close to stock as possible.
Are you checking to see if the number is being saved to the phone or your google account.

when I first add a contact it'll bring up which account i'd like to save it to and I make sure its my gmail, then I go to my actual gmail in my settings and sync everything about a good ten thousand times, and once I flash a new rom it's all gone again.

I would suggest you make sure you have all the contacts you want on your device, then log in on google contacts from your PC and erase everything and re-sync your phone. I had to do this before my contacts would stick or stop duplicating themselves when I first got this phone.
I always save the contacts to the sd card. And restore from the sd card.
Hello. I'm having an issue where some of my contacts won't transfer when I flash a new rom. Having the same issue if I try and view them while I'm in the computer and look through my google contacts. It happened a few times on factory resets and is always the same contacts which is weird imo. Before I flashed bean stalk earlier, I even made sure I synced my google contacts and even backed them up using titanium as well. Any idea on how to fix this? Thank yous
Some contacts may be saved to your phone and not google. Check each contact and make sure its a gmail contact before you wipe

This is exactly what it was. I usually do save everything to Google but I fixed those contacts. Thanks
Hello all,
My contacts imported from .vcf file are getting deleted periodically, is it a ROM's bug or the app's faulty?
Any fixes?
Can it be solved installing a third-party contacts app?
Thanks in advance.
(Using Havoc 2.1/Rooted)
Sounds like its a sync issue with google contacts. Sync it properly with your account.

There is no "phone storage" on Android. You have to save it to a google account.

Sure there is.
Those imported contacts get stored on internal storage.
Try restoring your contacts from .vcf file to a ROM without gapps, it doesn't need google account or even a network connection for that matter.
Anyways thanks for the help.
yes I am having same exact issue. havoc no gapps, and when you tell it to for example save contacts to phome storage or sim or account I said phone only.
but then after days or however long it just deletes them all?
ayyye. also calls are getting dropped periodically after 1st or second ring with full signal.
did you have microg installed?
