Hi Guys,
I recently updated my GS2 to ICS via Odin as my network( Vodafone Ireland) had not released it yet. Now I have a constant notification to register for software updates. Anytime ive tried doing so it fails. I had ignored it think that it will fix itself once my network releases the upgrade.
However, ive just found out that Vodafone Ireland launched ICS a few days ago. Any idea what steps i need to take?

I guess you mean this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854
Follow his instructions to the letter
ok there are 2 things going on........
1: either you mean the icons that show up after you flash ics stock rom
2: or you want to update officially by your carrier / OTA update.
if its option 1 just click the samsung thing and than skip it will go away, other icon you have to signin and it will check for ota update and say u have latest blaa blaa.
needless to say u need tobe online for both
Hi,
Again I'm not sure if people understand so I'm obviously not being clear. I have an unrooted SGS2 which I updated to ICS before my carrier launched it offically. I now have a constant notification to register my device update but whenever I try, I get the error "Software Update. Processing failed".
I have attached a scrnshot of the notification.
Any help is appreciated.

That's for OTA software updates. Now that you've already flashed via Odin (and probably not a firmware that matches your actual CSC) this probably won't work anymore, which is why it fails to process.
You can safely ignore it, or if you want to get rid of it, you can root and freeze the Software Update application with Titanium Backup. (there are probably other ways to get rid of it as well)

Use CheckFUS to figure out what the actual firmware is for your region, download that, and flash via Odin.

Just make sure you read tons before flashing
It should be pretty simple after you have an idea of what's going on.
Read the stickies they will help
And flashing the Official ICS thru Odin/Kies shouldnt brick or harm your phone at all

It does not matter if your phone is rooted or not. Start up Samsung Kies. Connect your phone. Go to the Tools tab. Select "Firmware upgrade and Initialization". Fill in the info and you should force the update. Model is SGHI717. No hyphen. And use caps for model and SN.

Its not that hard just a couple files you have to download and you'll be set..
Google Odin for ATT Note and
Download this .zip file found here
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/162779447/3bb6230/I717UCLF6_I717ATTLF6_ATT.zip.html
(its stock official ICS ) extract the .zip and put the .tar file inside in the PDA slot
And hit start
Make sure you put your phone in download mode first
(Holding volume down and power when powering up)
You should be set
I think there is a video on the stickies on how to do it as well if you get lost or confused

Some mentioned there was an ATT software update by OTA on some phones. Maybe this was an update for kies compatability on older Note handsets. Have you looked there first? Sorry if I could not help more.

Model is sierra golf hotel india seven one seven. All caps and no spaces. Kies probably didn't recognize the model.
FYI I guess there are different model numbers, or at least different ways the model number must be entered. My model # is SGH-I717...and when updating this way via Kies, I had to enter the dash. It wouldn't take it without the dash. Also, I've seen others report the model # they used was ATTI717.

and that you might have fixed it already but...
The quickest fix for me was to install ATT's original Baseband back its official I717UCLA1. Your note might have a different/custom one installed. I ran into the same exact issue today on my girlfriends Note (forgot I had a tmobile radio loaded for her). I would assume that CWM is loaded on the device also. If thats the case, search XDA for ATTNOTEUCLARADIO.zip (approx 22.1mb file) and copy to sd or internal storage on device. Boot into recovery via vol up + vol down + power. choose install via .zip. point to file and run. once completed, reboot.
now connect note to computer and run Kies. It will now tell you update is available.
Hope this helps anyone else who stumbles across this post via google search. I had to re-download files as we weren't home when I had did this where I have the files backup to to storage drive. Its safe and fast.
(Update) This will remove root access, remove CWM recovery and install ATT's bloatware crap. The cool factor: It DOES keep all your data and apps untouched except Superuser, which it removes

Put it in download mode. Start kies and once it shows your phone as connected click emergency firmware upgrade have your s/n ready make sure you have 3 gigs of space on your pc and a internet connection. It will.restore to official ics for the i717. WARNING........ THIS WILL ERASE YOUR INTERNAL STORAGE MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR INTERNAL STORAGE BEFORE HAND. Stock ics sucks if i was you id root and install a custom ics. Example i am using the new blackstar Rom. Its the best Rom for ics in my eyes..goodluck.

I just exchanged my phone with AT&t today. Before doing so, I brought it completely back to stock from CM9.
Odin'd stock GB rom.
Odin'd stock radio (1).
Odin'd CWM.
Flashed flash counter reset via CWM.
After doing that, Kies let the phone update to official ICS. But only after doing all of that. At some point in there might be your problem.
Once I got the new phone home, I IMMEDIATELY rooted and restored to my CM9 backup. Stock anything is blegh.

Solved
I was also getting the message 'SGH-I717' does not allow initializing.
Going throught the post, I Booted the device with Vol-Up + Vol Dwn + Power (I kept the USB cable connected) and when the Samsung Logo first appeared released all the keys.
Once in the menu I selected last option click on Ok (the second touch button) then selected first option to reboot.
The phone booted normally and connect to Kies it asked for update. The update is downloading right now.
I did something I shouldn't. I accidentally flashed a Gingerbread kernel on stock ICS. I was stuck at the boot screen, then flashed a stock Gingerbread ROM. My phone boots now, but I can't get it to upgrade through Kies (I think it's because the baseband is UCLF6). Also, the Contacts and Phone apps crash constantly. At this point I'd just like to get back to stock ICS, I think I'm done rooting for today.
Kernels have to match the roms. Ics for ics etc. If u want to change your baseline then u must flash a gingerbread radio. U can also just flash a ics stock rom If u want to upgrade to ics again. Most rom will include the kernels radios and all just find the rom u want and follow that devs instructions.

Did you have CWM installed?
Then just go into recovery and flash any ICS rom.
Did you get the stock ICS from the samsung-kies website?
Then you can use the tools menu and do emergency firmware install.
But you're right -- take a break and attack it later. As long as the phone gets into download mode you are ok.

I think you are getting closer.
In kies click on tools>emergency firmware recovery a window should popup
boot your device into download mode
on the "emergency fw recovery window" should show your device... it will ask for your SN and model, input them as it shows on the back of your device. It will then install the latest Samsung FW (ICS).

You could try to restore it to stock and try the ota update again. I know in recent years Samsung has implemented the KNOX warranty bit (switch) that gets tripped by certain root methods, flashing kernels, recoveries and is basically un-revertible.
Try out this guide below and let me know how it goes. I don't own a note 3 but thought I might try and help.

You guys can download the OC5 (Lollipop) tar from this thread and flash it using ODIN. **Fair warning: this will get rid of your root access and also any custom recovery you installed** If you want to regain root, you can follow the same procedure but with CF-Autoroot instead of the OC5 .tar file.
1) Download the OC5 .tar.zip file and ODIN
2) Unzip
3) Go to the ODIN folder and right click, select "run as administrator"
4) Click on the PDA button and select the OC5 .tar file you just extracted
5) Completely power down your phone (I pull the battery for a few seconds)
6) Enter Download mode by pressing and holding Volume Down + Menu + Power button, then Volume Up to continue
7) Plug in your phone and click start
8) Your phone will reboot and be upgraded to OC5 Lollipop
I am at work, I will try this this weekend.
Thank You!
I also received this message this AM, and am very curious...
Is Sprint basically forcing all Note 3 users to update to Lollipop?
Anybody have any additional info, by any chance? Even a suggestion of why this is or could be necessary...
I'm happy with my KitKat, especially since Xposed will cease working if I update...
Thanks!

No, they wouldn't be sending that knowing your phone is rooted. Mine has been rooted with Knox tripped since the second day I owned it and I haven't gotten that message. Maybe it is their way of trying to get people on to the latest modem. They are are probably saying that they think you will have better service on the OC5 modem? As long as you made it to OC5, I wouldn't worry.
They just want you on 0C5. They dont care if you're on kitkat or lollipop
Got this message today as well.
I was also a recipient of this unwelcomed text. I've been on a MJ4 ROM for a long time and had no intention of upgrading, especially until Xposed framework works with Lollipop.
For those who took the update, anything good from it?
It's not all bad, definitely different then other android version but overall I think it runs rather smooth

Any advice on how to do this? I'm not ready to lose all my Xposed modules yet.

Here is the thread with the baseband/modem that you can ODIN to keep KitKat. There are instructions in the first post but don't be afraid to ask if you have any questions.
Would this work for MJ4 or would I need to upgrade to KitKat?

Just to clarify, ONLY push the modem through Odin in those instructions. I wasn't the only one stupid enough to try and push an OC5 bootloader on 4.4.4
Got it figured out with some help, but what a waste of time.
