and i downloaded the google maps even clicked on "Use GPS" and it says "This program requires a data connection..."
I would appreciate any help. btw im located in brampton and am with bell mobility.
thanks
ur problem isnt with gps, at least not based on that info. did u verify that you have your data working? can you use the internet?
Can you get online with internet explorer?

If you're using a program such as Google Maps or Live Search that requires a data connection, then yes you cannot use the gps without a data connection.
If you use something like TomTom that doesn't require a data connection, then GPS will work just fine without the data.
data connection might not be setup in ur connection in the settings tab... but only recommended if u have unlimited.. a family friend went to verizon with a 6000 dolla phone bill for the data charges.. wow.. but that got fixed.. simple mistake on their part.. shoulda been a unlimited instead of charge by kb
yea i don't have the unlimited data connection that's why i deleted th connection settings from my phone cuz wenever i hit the explorer button by mistake it goes online!
but yea i just tried the "Amazenav" and tried the "locate me" function and it says "No gps found". maybe i'm using the wrong software again. please advice which software i could use and how can i find out if the gps is working or not.
thanks

Easy way to figure out if your GPS is FUNCTIONAL. Install this cab, click on Scan and when it scans COM4, if it says Found GPS! then your GPS is functional.
great it says COMM 4 Found GPS and all the rest it says "open failed" or "none".
thank u very much for this. so i guess this means that my gps is working fine?
and which software can i download that will work without the data connection?

Have you read the sticky GPS FAQ thread on the top front page of the forum?

[Q] wifi connected but can not connect

Hey I'm new to android, just got a vibrant last week. Decided to unlock it as I travel a lot. The unlock worked, but now I'm having issues with my wifi. I can connect to a wireless network but I cant load pages. The wireless signal is strong and I tried with different routers, but still no luck. Looked through the forum and googled it but couldn't find a solution. If some one could please help with this, it would be much appreciated
try clearing your current wifi settings including remembered connections, passwords, and everything else...then re-scan for networks all over again, that's all I can think of for now
By that you mean just gong into settings->wireless and networks->wifi settings and then just forget the net work, rescan, and rejoin the network? If so, I did that but am still getting the same result. If you can think of anything else or if I didnt do what you suggested correctly please let me know. Thanks

yeah, thats what I meant :/....hmmm...sounds like your connection is working, can you download stuff from the market or is it just the browser? cause I unlocked mine too and wifi works fine
No I cant download anything from the market. I cant do anything that requires an internet connection, but it does show that I am connected to a network.

hmmm...im out of tips then ...perhaps some other members can be of more assistance
I sure hope so, thanks for your help
Have you been able to try another network? My first thought was it was in Ad-Hoc mode but I could be wrong. If nothing else restore to stock firmware and then try a different unlock.
Happened to me too. It would show the wifi icon on the notification bar but wouldn't load pages. I'd go to the settings and it'd say can't turn off wifi or can't turn on wifi. And when it was "on" I'd say connecting to modem then it'd just stop. When I was using the browser on wifi it would load a page even when I had full bars. I had to turn it off then back on to load another page. Is this similar to the problem your having?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I hope this doesn't sound stupid but yesterday I uninstalled Advanced Task Manager and poof my wifi started working again. The phone also seems to suffer from less occasional lag without it installed, but that's another story for another thread. Prior to this I had to manually turn my wifi connection off and on, but even that didn't always work. Since the uninstall I have not my wifi connection once. I am currently using the stock rom, rooted with minor adjustments here and there.
hi guys, i also have this problem.
i will be taking the phone in to the tmobile store on thursday.
it shows that i am connected via wifi; however, anything that requires an internet connection does not load.
very frustrating, since just yesterday i used the samsung kies software to tether a network for my laptop. i was testing the capability of the vibrant to act as a modem, and it worked just fine.
any help would be appreciated!
thank you
Charlie
connected but not connected
I also have this problem.
In my Vibrant shows that i connected, but i can not load pages. Someone
found any solution to this problem?
Hi all,
This is happening to me too. Rebooting seems to get Wifi working correctly again. But the problem comes back eventually.
Maybe a bug in the latest JI6 update?
Wi-fi problem.
Someone found any solution for this problem?
Froyo's update will fix this issue?
Thanks.
i hang on you **** iphone users they just bay for its cool smartphone **** iphone android is the king

[Q] how to use GPS without data?? confused!

im new to vibrant and from Sri Lanka. im getting my location and the maps correctly when i turn wifi on and still when the gps is off.. so what is the use of that gps toggle in the slide down menu . it doesnt make any difference when my phone is using internet. and how to use gps without any data connection (offline) some one explain please!
If you are on Wi Fi, you are being triangulated by the Internet router and not the phone. If you are not using Wi Fi then the phone will pull in the data instead. Turn off the Wi Fi and see what happens.....
You could buy Copilot. Not sure they have Sri Lanka coverage though.
I like copilot a lot but for an app that expensive they have piss poor customer service. I had a problem with it, sent in an explanation of the problem and then about 5 days later got a response saying they dont support the vibrant because its not a stock android device (its running touchwiz). Considering over half of android phones are not running stock from google experience id say that is pretty crappy.
thanks. but maps don't work when I switch wifi off and turn gps on! Confused again ! btw how do I save maps so that view them offline? Its they any application?

[Q] is it possible to use sattelite gps only in maps?(galaxy ace)

i know its a stupid question but im still new to the phone can anyone please tell me?
Possible if you turn off gps when you are not using maps.
what do you mean?
gps
You can use gps without data connection if thats what you mean,,as long as you have pre loaded maps,,or you can plan your route b4 you leave then switch off data connection, and gps will still work, unless you go off route ,,then you need data or wifi to re route a new route!!hope this helps

Nope the hardware is not enough!
For the sake of space the wifi modem was slimmed off so a key component which was used in pc to hack wifi in pc is missing. so its nearly impossible
however you can still use brute method which will take days or may be weeks together to complete!
There is no Hack with wifi currently . But I think you can hack through bluetooth
