like some of the people here, my stock browser will hang up and be unresponsive on a regular basis. Sometimes a force close helps, but sometimes, when I look in the Asus Task Manager, or if I go to Settings> Apps > select "Running Apps", the browser doesn't show up, as if it's not even considered running. I usually have to select the app itself from settings > apps and then force close it.
Anyone else find it strange that the device doesn't even show the app as "running"? I don't know what to make of this, but perhaps someone else here does.
BTW, I did try Gary's Key's experimental fix, and got rid of Chrome and flash, rebooted, and then reinstalled Flash, but I'm still having the same problem.

Ya, uninstalling Chrome and Flash didn't work for me either. I want to say that the browser hanging issue has been a problem with mine ever since I got it, but I honestly can't remember for sure. Hopefully this is something that is fixed soon as the browser is probably the most used thing on a tablet, so it is quite an annoying thing to have to deal with.
As far as the browser not showing up in the Running Apps list, I know I have seen the same thing with other apps as well. I'm not sure off the top of my head which Apps they were but I know in the past I have tried to go to the Running Apps list to try and force close an app only to find that it wasn't listed. I had to switch to the All Apps view and found the app that I wanted to kill that way.

Have you tried tapping "Show Cached Processes" in the top-right corner? Android apps might appear to be "running" but are in fact suspended and cached ready to be instantly restored provided that the RAM being used to cache them isn't needed for other purposes.
I havent looked to see if the browser shows up in apps running.....
BUT BY GOD FIX THE BROWSER.....OH THE HUMANITY!!!
I may have 10 apps intalled, stupid ones. Even before I installed ANY apps I would get the "browser not responding...wait/cancel...."
It seems to have gotten worse with the latest updates. Now I get LOCKUPS like others are talking about. Resets havent helped.
Dont know, but this **** is getting old!
EDIT: Why the hell do I have to go thru all these apps, resets, clear caches etc.....the browser should, well just freaking work.
I've noticed more and more browser issues lately. Like playing a game on Facebook.... forget it. Then I get the dreaded wait box. Why can't Google make a browser that actually works?
Do you have plugins set to "always on" or "on demand" in the stock browser? I found that setting them to on demand stops all that. I think it's the flash plugin and the way sites are using it that's causing all the problems.

I get problems with the stock browser with them on "on demand". "Always on" would slow things down too much to leave on anyway.
I had these problems since the Prime's inception.
I really like to see an Internet Explorer for Android. That's how bad the current batch of Android browsers have sucked so bad. I have to turn to IE for hope.

I realize the quasi-joking, but what a horrid comment.
I'm sorry, but I feel that Opera Mini generally does a better job than IE ever thought of: then there's Opera Mobile, it's the only one I'll consider for my phone. ICS Browser+ does a good job of showing you what the stock browser could be. MaxthonPad handles and looks pretty well, I don't personally use gestures and the new tab button is kind of in a bad place IMO.
Anyway, nothing I've tried has remedied the stock browser, and I hadn't noticed it missing in Running Apps, but it's not often that I look there or force close anything.
Both my ICS phone and my TFP as well as my friend complaining about it on his ICS phone are all unstable. Granted it has yet to really annoy me but I think its Android not the TPF. This is my opinion YMMV and it could be the ASUS fault in some way.

Not true.
I have a Galaxy Nexus with ICS and I never had this problem on that browser.
It's somewhat related to the TPF.
sad, because besides this problem I love this tablet.

Like i said your mileage may vary. Three cases on my end is making me think its Android its self. You haven't seen the issue on your end so it points to the Prime. Different cases and different perspectives. Then again the Galaxy Nexus is also ICS Native so maybe that could be part of the problem I don't pretend to have that answer.

Don't blame Google. Blame Asus. I've had a GSM Galaxy Nexus since launch, and the browser works flawlessly - no hangs, no unresponsiveness. This is all Asus.
Speaking of stock browser problems, anyone else notice anything like this? Some kind of malicious exploit in a browser's cache or something-other, apparently even an unrooted user got the issue so I just find it really interesting since that rules out changes to the hosts file.

It was me, and indeed ics browser+ without javascript is extremely fast. It's now even faster then chrome on my desktop pc.
It's gone from 5sec loading time for this forum to sub 1sec.
Only problem is that some sites need the javascript. But for that you can use a different browser.

Exactly!! If anyone remembers awhile back I was bragging on how the galaxy nexus running ICS put the iPhone 4s browser to shame & that was with flash running!!
I said once Asus got ICS it would blow Apple away. Well Asus screwed that up big time!
Guys, could someone who knows what he's doing change vm heap size to 128 or even lower and try then? I've done a bit of research and 256 seems way to high.
One thing for sure, its not browsers, chrome or flash fault.

Just got my Samsung Galaxy S3 from AT&T. Still have the stock android from AT&T running it (ICS. Version 4.0.4). I choose to use the mobile browser version of facebook as the app itself is very slow and buggy in my previous experience. But whenever I click on likes and comments on a post in facebook to see the details, the browser freezes in android. It says "Internet is not responding. Would you like to close it?". I have cleared all cache, rebooted, cleared all cookies, history etc. But it keeps doing this. Interestingly no other website has given me issues ranging from flash rich sites to simple yahoo mail mobile website. Also I never had this problem with the Galaxy S1, my last phone. To reclarify, there is no problem with facebook on main pages like news feeds or my page. But the freezing occurs when you click on comments or likes icon to see the details.
Can anyone help with above or is anyone else experiencing the same issue?
thanks,
K

Thanks for the response. No I haven't. But I am still puzzled. Why it would just not work fine in my stock android browser?
By the way how did you manage to get the desktop version of facebook running. Everytime I try that, it automatically goes to mobile version.
I will try the Chrome. I suppose I have to install it. Would it create a conflict with the stock android?

I have the exact same problem. I thought it was because I rooted it. I guess an update will fix it eventually. Also, it seems to only be Facebook, so maybe the site is doing it.
Solution
So I finally resolved the problem. I have stopped using the android stock browser and installed the Chrome app. It is working like a charm and no more error messages. I don't miss the stock browser at all and in some ways, Chrome is giving a much better experience.
Ever since Honeycomb, the absolute biggest problem I've had with this tablet is the browser. It doesn't freaking stay open. No matter what browser I use, no matter if I'm running Honeycomb, ICS or Jellybean, the browser always crashes. And it's not a typical FC either; It just closes right back to Launcher.
I've been hearing that it's caused by some null pointer exception in JavaScript; But you mean to tell me between Android 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 4.0 - 4.0.4 and 4.1, 4.1.1, that this issue STILL isn't resolved? Not to mention, it only happens on tablets (Tegra 2 issue? Xoom has the same issue).
For me, it most notably happens when I'm browsing a Twitter page. In the past minute alone, I've had browser crash on my SIX times trying to load a page on Twitter. Let's make that 7 now.
So what the hell really causes this, and why won't it go away? My Sensation and myTouch 4G can browse just fine, and this temporary Galaxy S III works perfectly too, so what's with the tablet?
EDIT: Disabled JavaScript and set plugins to ondemand. Same damn result.
I've used the stock browser, Dolphin, Chrome, and Skyfire and none of them have ever crashed on me. Ever. Sounds like there is either something defective about your device perhaps your internet connection. A factory reset might help, as might going into applications, finding the Google framework and clearing data. Do the same for your browsers as well.
That's funny, I've noticed just the same thing. Browsers work terribly on this tablet.
With me, they only do crash sometimes – a lot more than on my HTC phone, though. But using browsers is a real pain, as they all feel kinda buggy, and I don't think it's their fault, since they all show the same "bugs". They're all kinda laggy. I've updated to ICS today and I was crying in emotion for being able to finally download Chrome, as it's the most stable one I've ever used in my phone, but I was disappointed when I noticed it too felt quite laggy. I'd rather go home and turn my Mac on than to struggle with web browsing on this tablet, honestly. I've tried many browsers –*stock, Dolphin, Boat, that other one with green icon, and also Skyfire or something.
If anyone has a better thing, or a solution, or anything, I bet there are many desperate people that would die to hear it.
(I know I sound more dramatic than I should, but let's face it, web browsing sucks in this device.)
I've never had any problem web browsing on my Tab. None. I'm not rooted, maybe that's why, or maybe it has to do with the sites you visit. Dunno.
On my tab with HC 3.2, the stock browser would also just disappear to the home screen, but not all that often.
I flashed to ICS, and the stock browser got a bit quirky. The address bar would no longer hide when I scrolled down
on a web page. Would stutter as if it was trying to hide but wouldn't.
Installed Dolphin and it worked fine.
I went back to HC 3.2 (had some other issues besides the browser) and so far the stock browser is working fine.

Dolphin does the same thing though, just a lot less frequently. Motorola Xoom users in a thread from a year ago reported this same problem (in a filled up 14 page thread), and several of users report the same exact issue. I'm gonna poll some more Tegra 2 sections and see if they suffer from the same thing but it looks like this is just another issue with this ****ty SoC, like the portrait mode lag.

Come on dude, I'd have to be rooted to be running Jellybean. And as everyone else has shown, it does seem to vary by website. Full pages on twitter ALWAYS crash, (they work once in a blue moon). Other times browser crashes when browser feels like it hasn't crashed in a while. I could get through a day perfectly, then bam, crash.
I'm not a dude.
I've never had a problem with any of the browsers I've tried, I think maybe you have a faulty tablet.

Yes Google.ca. The browser just shut down without a force close notice and opens blank. Plus it becomes non responsive, on pages that have a lot of javascript.

I think it's all about memory management, I cant tell about HC 'cause I barely used it, but JB is still very experimental.

I'm biased because I've never had any problems with my browser crashing? Whatever. I also never "went crazy" over anything. All you do is complain and complain. Why not just get an iPad and move on?
I have tried several browsers also, and for me I really only have problems with chrome freezing (not force closing). It seems to be random, but happens more frequently when opening new tabs. However, the stock browser on the same sites seems to work every time. My guess is that it may be due to timeouts on the network connection or possibly memory related. And, it seems to be random... I may go a day without a freeze, then have two back to back freezes. Oh tegra2, why don't you behave?

Chrome is the way to go. The ability to create an account and sync all relevant browser data to your devices via the cloud - why hasn't anyone thought of this before? So obvious and useful.
I also strongly recommend trying out Boat Browser, which is highly underrated. Smoother and smarter layout than Dolphin and the best alternative to Chrome, IMO.

Chrome acts really weird on JB. I'm still running pershoot's 8/4 build but I'll be updating and trying out Chrome again. Last time I tried it I would always get a white page while switching tabs, and scrolling was odd. Browser does a much better job but Chrome has too much nice functionality lol

I doubt it's memory relate, it happens a lot with 1 tab open, and with a full Gig of RAM, browsing should be painless when it comes to memory management, not to mention, but Android's memory management scheme is the most beautiful thing I've seen. Tabs and apps actually know how to stay open, and Android knows what to close. Works a lot better than any tablet I've used, even better than crapple's iPad.

only google works, no other websites. I usually use google chrome, doesnt work on that and i also tried on the stock browser, same result
Clear data on both browsers. If that doesn't work, uninstall both browsers, reboot, reinstall (do not restore them from a Ti backup/similar or restore app data), test. Then try a clean install of stock, which means no restoring apps or data until you've tested again with different browsers; the install needs to be 'clean' because if there's something funky in your app data/etc & you restore that, the problem will persist. I realise this is a pain in the arse to do, but you either want the problem fixed or you don't, so I suggest you take the time to do this/do it when you do have time.
If it's still happening at that point, it's a carrier-side issue causing you problems; which is the case the majority of the time with connectivity issues despite people automatically thinking it's something phone-side every time.
Hi there good people of XDA.
Im on EMUI 3.1 B180 with TSF Launcher as home screen.
Is there a way to change look of Recent Apps tab on this configuration ?
No apps like sidebars with recent apps function shows recent apps. All of them states that there is no recent app. In my opinion somehow they can't get access to read them. Same for other apps claiming they change look of this RA tab.
Why i want to do this:
- I have changed DPI and Recent Apps tab got moved to left which looking bad and it's impractical
- It only show 4 last apps on one screen - (impractical again)
Question 2:
Any way possible to edit some files to achive more recent apps on one screen or change look of RA tab?
If there is no one who knows 100% solution then let's start discussion thread with ideas.
Thanks guys

I actually came here to find the answer to something similar. I think my issues and yours are related.
I also have the b180 firmware and have noticed that apps do not seem to be receiving app usage data despite me having given them access in "settings>security>apps with usage access".
I'm not sure if this issue is related specifically to the b180 firmware as I have only had the honor 7 (PLK-L01) for about 2 weeks and I updated it to b180 the day I got it.
The reasons why I am getting the impression that apps are not receiving app usage data are as follows:
1. I use an app called omni swipe. It has 3 tabs. One called toolbox which has access to various phone settings such as enabling/disabling wifi, one called favourites where I can pin my favourite apps for quick access and one called recent which is supposed to show my most recently used apps. The recent tab is always blank. I have confirmed that the issue is not with the app itself as the same version of the app doesn't have these issues on my old phone (samsung galaxy a3).
2. Again Omni Swipe also has a feature whereby when notifications are received it displays a little red bubble in the corner of the screen. In omni swipe's settings you can specify what apps you want the bubble to be able to appear over and which you don't. An example would be that I have specified that I don't want the bubble to appear while I am using the YouTube app. However the bubble still appears over YouTube. I believe this is because Omni Swipe is unable to determine when I am using the YouTube app due to not receiving app usage data from the phone
3. Opera Max recently received a feature whereby it can track background data usage on an app by app basis. This works fine on my old phone but on the honor 7, Opera Max is unable to distinguish whether the data is being used in the background or whether it's being used while I am using the app actively. Weirdly it does seem to be able to work out what apps I have been using at least although other apps don't.
4. CCleaner is able to determine what processes are currently running so that you can manually kill them with its task manager feature (I am aware that killing processes on Android is pointless, so I don't actually ever use this feature), however whenever I run an analysis it does not detect any running processes whatsoever.
5. Ultimate rotation control allows me to force screen rotation in any app regardless of whether the app natively supports a particular orientation. It has a per app settings section that allows me to specify the particular orientation for any app on an app by app basis. However the per app settings seem to be ignored. Again I believe that this is because Ultimate Rotation Control is unable to determine when specific apps are running due to not receiving app usage data from the phone.
These are all the specific issues I have noticed so far. All seem to be related to me. I have tested that all these issues are not present in the same versions running on my Samsung Galaxy A3.
The issues I have encountered along with the issues you have already described all seem to have the app usage data problem on common.
Does anyone know of any workarounds?

Do you know if the issue was there in the previous version of the firmware to b180? Just wondering if it's just a bug in b180 or in Huawei's implementation of lollipop in general.
I hear that Marshmallow (stable) is being released soon in the UK. Maybe the problem will be fixed in that update anyway. We can only hope.
Let me know if you manage to find a backgate. If I come across anything I'll let you know too. I'm waiting to hear back from Huawei at the moment.

It monitors traffic generated by apps as it passes through the VPN hence it's able to distinguish these, where the rest relies on the usage access API for data usage stats. This is also why in certain cases data usage can differ between what the OS reports and what is displayed in Opera Max.

So would this be why it is able to work out how much data I have used (based on the traffic that has passed through the VPN) but not able to distinguish whether that data was in the background or not due to no access to usage data?
Also do you work for Opera?? Weirdly enough I won this phone from a competition that was run by Opera over Christmas.

Exactly. We need to have usage access to see what app is in the foreground. By that we can mark the rest as in the background and categorize the traffic accordingly. There's a bit of lag in reporting the foreground app (up to 1s, depends on the device, usually around 200ms IIRC) and I'm not sure if we tested this with floating windows yet.
Yes, I work at Opera in a QA Engineer role for Max . I hope you're satisfied with your prize .
If you know your way around ADB you can send me logcats if there are any exceptions thrown due to this issue by Max .
Alternatively you could just wait for the Android MM OTA and see if it fixes the issue.

Yeah its a really good phone, just wish Huawei would give me my bootloader unlock code so I can root, but that's a whole other story and topic
I can send you logcats if you want them although I haven't experienced any real issues with Opera Max other than the occasional notification telling me that certain apps have used a lot of background data which I actually used as foreground data but thats not really an issue with the app but rather the app working correctly with the information that is being provided to it by the phone so I can't really fault it for that.
I did report the issue to Honor UK and they said they would submit it as a bug and that hopefully it will be sorted in the Marshmallow update. Just waiting for the update which should be soon hopefully.
Thanks for the clarification anyway. The whole team at opera do a great job with both Opera Max and Opera Browser.

That's an interesting edge case we didn't bump into yet. Sanity-checking system APIs in the app can make sense but on the other hand there's no easy way to later test these cases. It's easier to assume that the app is at fault then and just gather feedback from users .

I'll assume then that the Honor team will tackle this issue then . It's a pity they don't ship with the bootloader unlocked. Having root on devices is essential for comfortable debugging of VPN issues so I feel you .

I now have an unlocked bootloader, custom recovery and rooted marshmallow installed. It seems so far that any issues that I was having that were related to requiring access to app usage data are all fixed in the marshmallow update. Opera Max is now working how it used to with correct reporting of what data was used in the foreground and what data was used in the background.
All is good in marshmallow land on my Honor 7 now.

Good to hear that MM works fine for you and that you finally got an unlocked bootloader!
