I successfully rooted my Xperia Tablet Z1 using TowelRoot
My question now is how can I install custom firmware or recovery. Do I need to unlock the bootloader too? can anyone recommend me how to install?
thanks

You cannot install custom roms unless you unlock your bootloader. It is possible however to install a special type of recovery called xzdualrecovery without unlocking.

Hi!
I am new to rooting and flashing on Android. I have an Xperia S which is currently in repair for yellow tint/spots on the screen. When I get it back and know that it is working i will unlock the bootloader using the official method.
My goal is to have rooted gingerbread on the phone, maybe with a better kernel. I have found a prerooted ftf with the FW that I want. Can I just flash that one and it will work?
Do I have to install custom recovery?
Thanks in advance!
Have I understood it right? unlocked bootloader + flash prerooted system rom. That should work?
If I want to install custom rom I need custom recovery. I would appreciate if someone could verify this for me, thanks!

Hello
I have a few questions about the hole "thing" cause this is my first android phone and on apple there was just the option jailbreaked or not jailbreaked
My first question is about the bootloader.
since i was reading the thread "[FULL ROOT] Community RootKit! (ASEC vulnerability) {v01} [20140615]" i am asking me why should i unlock my bootloader when im able to get root without doing this?
Is there any special point for wich i need the unlocked bootloader or is it just written for the people who unlocked there bootloader already?
Then to second question is about the sequence.
Am i right when i
1. get root
2. install cwm or twrp
3. install custom rom?
by the way: is there any huge difference between twrp and cwm? because at the table "Kernels" there is the TWRP for the Xperia T2 Ultra and an unofficial version and from CMW is an unofficial version too? Wich should i use?
and my last question is should i wait for version 2 of the RootKit or are there just small differences?

Bootloader unlock is required to install Custom kernels like DOOMLORDS kernel. In case if you dont want that then no need to unlock BL.
Just follow this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784757 to get root on Locked Bl and then revert back to .402

A custom ROM is different from a custom kernel. Some custom ROMs do not require custom kernels (because they use stock kernel), but others do. So it really depends on the custom ROM that you want to use. Instructions and requirements will be posted in the respective ROM thread.
But if you want to use a custom kernel, then you will need to unlock the bootloader first.
And obviously, if you want to flash a custom ROM that needs custom kernel, then you will have to unlock your bootloader first.
Even if you want to flash a custom ROM that does not require a custom kernel, you need to first root the phone with the RootKit. Because flashing custom ROMs is usually done via recovery, and recovery installation requires root.
Hope the above is not too confusing.

So just to be sure.
I Run the toolkit for root
Then i take twrp or cwm
And then i flash a custom Rom wich use stock kernel
And that can i do with a locked bootloader?
What can be different in an other kernel?

Yes, run Rootkit, install recovery (TWRP/CWM) and then you can flash custom ROM which uses stock kernel.
Custom kernels allow functions such as overclocking, undervolting, etc.

Or you can use the toolkit on .55/.69
Then follow Nuts thread and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784757
this would bring you back to .402 and have recovery installed by default on Locked bootloader

then i have 2 new questions
1. How can i downgrade my phone ? just download the fw and use flashtool?
got an iphone till now and there it was a hard work to do it ..
2. is there any difference between locked and uinlocked bootloader? i mean in the point of restoring so that i have my warranty back?
1. There's now an even easier way to root the 402 firmware that does not require you to downgrade first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784900
But note this post, where you have to change something in the install.bat file for it to work on the Z2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53480221&postcount=81
2. It's a little more work if your bootloader is unlocked and you want to relock it before sending it to the service centre. You need to have your TA backup before doing so. If your bootloader is locked, you just have to remove root via SuperSU before sending it in for service.
Hello,
I'm Yazan and I'm new to this developing stuff. I had an old Samsung that I used to play with and rooted it but moving to the Xperia z2 was a big upgrade. I have very low experience and would love to root my Xperia z2. I have updated it to the generic lollipop update and would like to know if there is a way to root it. And also could I downgrade to 4.4.4 KitKat root it and install a rooted 5.0 stock ROM?
Thanks for the help. I'll be waiting. :fingers-crossed:
You need to downgrade it to 4.4.2 Kitkat, root it, install Dualrecovery, and then flash a prerooted lollipop firmware via recovery.
Please search the forum for how to do it..

... So I could flash (downgrade) a stock 4.4.2 ROM directly from 5.0.2 using flashtool, then root it and install dual recovery then flash the 5.0 pre rooted rom using the recovery? And btw my bootloader is locked should I unlock it first.

No need to unlock bootloader... Just do as you said...
The intention of downgrading firmware is to gain root without unlocking bootloader.

Haha, thanks I'm sort of new... Thanks though. and which ROM should I choose... 17.1.2.A.0.314 or 17.1.1.A.0.402. My device is D6503
You may use 17.1.2.A.0.314 to downgrade.

The is no root exploit available for that version, you'll need to unlock your BL (and lose DRM's), flash a kernel with recovery and flash supersu zip, OR downgrade to an exploitable version, root it, install nut's dual recovery and then install a pre-rooted .200 rom (no BL unlock needed this way).
