[Q] Galaxy Toolbox Firmware Question - Galaxy Ace S5830i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I am new to these forums, so please be kind .
I have my S5830i rooted, and running CWM. I have three quick questions:
My phone came branded and locked to the O2 UK network. It contains all of the branding and rubbish that comes associated with it (Boot animations, etc)
However, I have used galaxy toolbox to network unlock my phone, so now in theory I should be able to use any network. What I want to do is flash the BTU (open) uk firmware from sammobile.com, in order to remove all of this branding. However, I have heard stories about how you should never flash BTU firmware onto a network locked device. Therefore, my first question is: Has Galaxy Toolbox unlocked my phone as if I had got it done by the people at the O2 shop? And does this mean I can safely flash BTU rom's?
My second question is:
I see that after ODIN installs a rom, you are taken straight to the recovery menu. Once you get here, do you have to wipe data and cache, or can you just reboot straight away using the "reboot system now" option?
My final question is:
The BTU firmware I have downloaded is only one file. According to sammobile, I should put this into the PDA section of ODIN. Is this the same as Flashing a multi firmware file, (like with PHONE and CSC) or are those two put into the PDA for convenience? The file I am trying to download is here: www(dot)sammobile(dot)(com)/firmwares/3/?download=16050
Thanks for helping me out, and do not hesitate to ask if I need to clarify anything that I have said.

Yes, you can use Galaxy Toolboox to unlock your phone and its safe for you to install BTU roms. Its always best to go to Stock Recovery Mode and do "Wipe data/ factory reset" once you flash stock rom through odin. As for flashing the stock rom, use this guide,
Know your Device:Galaxy Ace GT-S5830i ~Root~Odin~CWM~ROM LIST
Do post the result. Hope I Helped

Thanks
Thanks for the reply! One final question - Some tutorials use a *.pit file, and some don't. As far as I can understand, the PIT file is used for re-partioning. Do I really have to use this, or will it work fine without? The instructions on the sammobile site don't mention this.
Finally, will flashing the stock rom restore your kernel back to the stock rom? I am asking this because If I flash a kernel like Rafael's, will flashing the stock rom remove it?
Thanks for the help!

Sorry for the double post, but...
The flashing guide details where to get the firmware files from. However, I have already downloaded my firmware from sammobile, (which came with one file, the PDA,) and I don't exactly want to have to download it all over again from a different site. Are the sammobile firmwares safe/okay to use? Thanks again for the help!

You can actually try both. Use the following guide. If the single file installation doesn't work, then you can use the multi-file installation using the pit file. Here is the link,
How to Unbrick/Flash Official Firmware on Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830i Using Odin
Whenever you flash the stock rom back, all the previous data will be lost. If you flash a Rafael kernel and then flash stock rom back, yes, it will remove the Rafael kernel. After you flash the stock rom, you will have the stock kernel.

If u want splitted firmware then go here and follow the instructions ..

Is there any difference between splitted firmware, or just the one file?
Because otherwise I see no point

That one file is like a zip, which has the required Modem, PDA and CSC files packed into 1. You will need to split the file in order to flash properly.

I had tried to use splitFUS2 to split the firmware into multiple files, but the website it was hosted on has now been taken down, so I can't download it. Do you know of anywhere that I can get the latest version from, as that is the one that supports our device?
Also, I was told to put the single file I downloaded into the "PDA" section - Surely this would do the same as flashing it in it's individual parts? Please correct me if I am wrong. It is a .md5 file I am putting under the "PDA" section .
Thanks for the help everyone!

So is there actually any difference between flashing it has one file under PDA, or splitting Modem and CSC from it? Will flashing a single file have exactly the same effect as a multi file? Because otherwise it all seems like a waste of time
Thanks for putting up with me, as I am such a noob!

I have teated both of the methods , 1.If you flash that whole zip , Odin will say Fail and it will not flash .
2.If you flashed that splited files then it will boot properly and Odin will say Pass , hope you now get cleared .

Okay, I think I understand now...
You cannot flash a single *.md5 that you are given from sammobile (although that thread you linked to had mentioned Odin had been uodated to support it)
So I went on thr splitFUS page, and went through the installation structions. I have cygwin installed, and the stock ROM on my computer. HOWEVER, the download for splitfus is down, as it was hosted on hotfile. (Which was taken down) Therefore, please could someone here re-upload version 2.11 (Or whatever the latest version is) so that I can split my firmwares?
Thanks!

Hi.
SplitFUS2 uploaded by marcussmith2626 from the Galaxy Y Android Dev forum.

Thank you! I will now split the BTU firmware from sammobile, and flash on my SGA.I will tell you guys how it goes!

In Wipe package it will erase your all data & in Non wipe it will not.

Okay, I have now split the firmware using SplitFUS2 into the 3 respective parts - PDA, CSC and MODEM. Here ISNA screenshot of what it looks like:

(My phone isn't plugged in yet, but I know the drivers work fine! )
Is this all set up properly? I am using version 3.07 (As you can see from the screenshot) - Is this the correct version?
Assuming that it is, are these steps to follow correct?
Boot into download mode.
Plug into PC,and press "start"
Phone will receive firmware, then restart into RECOVERY MODE.
Wipe data, and wipe cache.
Reboot system now
Are these instructions correct? Sorry that I am being paranoid - I really don't want to break my device, but I also want to know that I can go back to stock from with ease, if anything was to go wrong.
As always, thanks a ton!

How to switch back from I9100XXLP6 ## to 2.3.6?

Hello,
I just flashed with odin the new ICS firmware out on sammobile for sgs2 (I9100XXLP6 ##) which came with a file for PDA, for CSC and for Phone, but now that I am trying to flash again any 2.3.6. firmware I keep getting errors already at the start when associating my google account and stuff...
I assume that is because of the additional CSC and PHONE file that was included in I9100XXLP6 ## but I don´t know where to find the refering files for 2.3.6. firmwares since these only come with 1 file (for PDA)...
I would be glad for any help I can get
Hi,
Could you give more information about the errors? At what point do they occur? What errors do you get?
The csc files can be found somewhere on xda, use the search function. The file you need for the phone is called a modem, can also be found on xda.
Although I do not expect that this causes the errors, how did you restore? Did you while your phone and cache first?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
What 2.3.6 rom are u trying to flash on?
If the DL was dodgy it would cause problems, redownload and reflash
PIT: if included, also optional
PDA:Code
Phone:modem
CSC:multi csc
Did you do a full wipe?

I flashed this update, throuch odin, and now the phone will only boot into download mode or the screen that says to use kies recovery. The problem is, even though I can boot into download mode, the computer no longer recognizes my phone. No sounds when I plug it in or anything. If I plug a jig in, it will come on so it's not the port. Can someone help me?

You need a three part firmware, with modem, csc and pda, flash with pit and repartition, to do a full wipe. I think you used a non wipe firmware, that's the reason for the bugs.
Question
When you flashed the LP6, did you flash it with the .pit file too? I suggest you flash back to your stock ROM but you also have to flash a .pit file as well. This happened to me too when I flashed the KP8 ROM. I reflashed my stock ROM but it kept giving me errors at the initial boot. So I flashed my stock ROM again this time with the same .pit file. If I'm not mistaken it's this: u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit

Did you get the 2.3.6 firmware? If not look at this thread from Infratech: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278. Have a good look at the section marked "Individual CSC Packages". Maybe this could help if you suspect a wrong CSC being the cause of your problem.

[Q] [Help] Samsung S2 - dont want custom rom - want to go back to stock

Hi guys,
Im having a difficult time finding out how i can get back to the nordic official samsung rom.
I have no idea what i should flash and if i need Odin or just use recovery..
So if there is a kind soul out there that can point me to the correct files, and explain it step by step, i will be forever gratefull!
Yes, I know there are some guides, and i have tried reading them.. But I dont want to **** this up, as I need the phone tomorrow for work :/
So, please, if you can help me, i will be very gratefull
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S2
Country: Norway
Check the model under the battery.
Go to sammobile.com and get your ROM for your region.
Or use checkfus downloader and get the ROM for Norway.
Also mind you, You can flash any region ROM for i9100 in your phone.

I must then go to download mode on phone, and what settings should i have when i now flash?
Should i use the PIT file?
The guide from sammobile was just a repair guide, didnt help me at all..
I have I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXXLPD_NEE.zip.
I have Odin.
What now?
Whatever you do, don't use the PIT file.

I have the I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXXLPD_NEE.zip (should i extract it?).
And Odin ready.
Do I need more files?
Follow the flashing guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Chris.
No don't use pit, don't know how you get that.
Just extract the zip file you will get tar.md5, put it in pda under Odin.
Also the file you got is ics, just to let you know, if that matters.
So this is how i understand it after reading alot.
1. Unzip the I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXXLPD_NEE.zip
2. Open Odin 1.83
3. Choose the unzipped file I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXXLPD_I9100XXLPQ_HOME.tar.md5 as PDA.
4. Flash without ticking ANY of the options in Odin.
5. Sucess??
Can someone PLEASE confirm?
Already linked above the guide

Just a bootloop, give this a go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499
You will lose all data although, nothing on external sd card will be lost.
Also, how did you flash the ROM? If you followed the guide step-by-step, you shouldn't have ended up in a bootloop.
I wiped all partitions and then flashed the zip file.
Is it with a bootloop that you even can't get in to recovery? I'm stuck on samsung logo, not on RR logo

Ah I'm stupid! You need to get into recovery for that thread! You're definitely holding the correct buttons when the phone is fully off (home + power + volume up)?
I think I will give it a go. But the threat says that you should do it from your recovery, or if you are not comfortable with the recovery way you should do it via odin. I can't get in recovery, so maybe I have an other problem..
I'm honestly a little scared of odin.

This is taken straight from my rooting guide. It will help you correctly set up Odin:
First off, you need Odin, which is a flashing tool specifically designed for the SGS2: Just type in "Odin 1.85" without quotations into Google and the first result should display "Odin - xdadevelopers - XDA Developers." Click on the link and Odin will download.
Now before going ahead with Odin, download Kies: http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/ ,which is like iTunes for Samsung Devices, the drivers are needed for Odin, but when the drivers have been installed, close Kies, right click on your toolbar at the bottom of your desktop, I'll assume your running Windows 7, and go into Task Manager. Now find anything with Kies running in the Task Manager, right click on them and kill them.
Once you have done this, go to "sammobile.com", sign up and download a stock ROM for the GT-I9100. I'll assume you have the international SGS2, just remove your battery and make sure it isn't the GT-I9100G. Then flash via Odin by connecting your phone, making sure Odin is configured like above, and then putting your phone in download mode, connecting it to your PC and put the file you downloaded in the PDA section and flash.

Yes, if you can't get into Recovery Mode, a new flash is your only saviour. When you have flashed the ROM and hopefully everything went well, you can root your ROM by using Chainfire's CF-Root. Then you could restore a backup.
I have also a zip-file of my previous rom on my sd-card. That was codename lungo. Can I flash that zip so i don't neet to re-root lik you said?

Do you know what it is/does? Also, the guide I took that segment on setting up Odin was actually written for rooting your ROM with CF-Root.
Oh, its a ROM. My bad! Well, I'm not too sure. I think if you have a backup of it, that would be safer. Rooting is real easy anyway.
Is Codename Lungo not a HTC Sensation ROM?
Oke thank you.
I will download the stock firmware from sammobile, and try to flash it with Odin. I just want it to work again (root or no root) and not have to buy a new phone

Don't thank me till it's working! Once new ROM flashed and booted, let me know.
By the way, don't use the .PIT file if one is included in the download, if you get PDA, PHONE and CSC, put in appropriate sections of Odin and flash, if just one file, put in PDA section and flash.

Hi. Did you use Mobile Odin's OTA/Update Zip option?
Thanks!
Unzip then use the open file option.
Thanks for the info. I'll give it a go!

Works fine. All my data was kept after flash. Easy to flash using odin.
Plus my data speed on t-mobile went from a maximum of 3mb to 13mb after flash.
Cheers

Hi. Sorry, I'm a a bit of a noob to the Samsung tools (having just come from the HTC world of hacking!). Can you tell Odin/Mobile Odin not to flash the modem part? I don't want to flash a SA modem onto my UK EE handset.
Thanks.

If it is a one Part Firmware like this one, no you can't. AFAIK you would need a 3 Part Firmware which consists of a Code, modem and csc part. There isn't a 3 part Firmware available right now.
What you could do is flash you current modem (your Providers Modem) seperately after flashing the Firmware.

Hi. Thanks for your help.
I've extracted the tar from the zip and then unpacked the tar. I assume I can just flash the system and boot images via Mobile Odin and leave the others? Sorry to be asking so many questions. I just don't want to brick my handset by rushing head long into something new to me.
Thanks

Just done it. Flashed system and boot images only with Mobile Odin. All went fine. I now have 4.1.2 and kept have my EE modem
The editable multi-window menu makes it worth the upgrade alone.

I pretend to use mobile odin, which is the best way to root for mobile odin installation and without increase the counter?
Thanks

Yes, you can use Mobile Odin Pro to install and root without increasing the counter.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35057300#post35057300
Download the file from the OP and unzip it to your internal or extenal SD.
Launch Mobile Odin Pro, tap "Open file" and select the unzipped .tar.md5 file.
Now tick "Enable EverRoot", "Inject Superuser (SuperSU)", and "Inject Mobile Odin".
If you want a completely clean installation, also tick "Wipe data and cache" and "Wipe Dalvik Cache" (Warning: this erases all installed apps and settings).
Then tap on "Flash firmware" to start the installation process.
Thanks, but before the mobile odin can be used the phone must be rooted, the question is: which is the best method for root the phone by the first time, without increase the counter and apear the yellow triangle? . I think that one option is flashing CF-root (with PC odin) and after use triangle away.
Thanks one more time.
This is what I did. Flashed the phone /w PC Odin and used triangle away afterwards. Worked flawlessly.

If using Mobile Odin, it is a good idea to deselect the modem and hidden partitions as they are for a South African telco.

If you go to System settings > About device > Status, does "Device status" say "Normal" or "Modified"?
I also rooted it with PC odin using this tutorial (stock recovery method) initially:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31801060&postcount=2
Unfortunately, Triangle Away was not able to reset the counter successfully (it was still showing "1"), and "Device status: Modified".
Anyway, as I was already rooted I then went the Mobile Odin Pro way selecting all the wipes. This brought back the counter to zero and "Device status: Normal" and gave me root access at the same time.

Hi I'm in the same boat and want to keep my ee modem and root. I've unzipped the file so do I just place the boot image and system image on my sd card and then flash them with mobile odin ? I'm not sure what affect having a SA modem on a British network would have on the phone if any

I initially installed this full image incl the modem on my EE N7105 (am using with Three UK) and the speeds were all over the place.
So I then reflashed the original image and then this image minus the modem and I can say that the speeds have improved drastically...
Strangely I am also getting a signal albiet 1bar in in some places where I had zero signal before.
Don't know what this build contains to improve on the signal strength...
Also battery life has not depleted and seems to be better than the previous build.
I'm somehow getting horrible Battery Life when i flash the included (SA) Modem. It's about 4-6% per Hour while before i had 2-3% guess i have to flash again the Provider Firmware and then the new one excluding the Modem. I'm on Vodafone Germany

Need a little help! Anyone who helps me I'll send you some money I am so confused!

Hi so please listen to my story and how confused I am...
I got a phone from xfinity mobile. I unlocked it. I got a tmobile sim card and its not working with their network. I could use data just no voice. I then went to Verizon Wireless and everything worked perfect! Except their sim cards were not compatable with my phone? Confused. They sent me to at&t.
Now I'm on AT&T. Good. $40 a month for 8gb of data. Works for me. Everything is working fine. Data, calls, etc. BUT for some reason it keeps disconnecting randomly once a day. This is frustrating. I'm trying to "flash"? at&t firmware on it? I guess.. I have NO idea what I'm doing. I downloaded odin and g960u1.. Have no clue what they are. My phone is in developer mode and debugging is enabled. My device says it's model number is SM-G965U.
If anyone can please help me out and not throw me at a different thread I'd be willing to send you like $10 or something. I'm desperate and just want this phone to work! Also, I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong place. I have a few days off from work so I can get it done I just need help!
It also still says Xfinity Mobile at the top left and I have no clue whether it should be on Global or GSM. It's currently getting HSPA where I am. When I boot it it still says Xfinity Mobile everywhere lol.

Most of your problems stem from the fact that Galaxy S9 does not support SIM swapping of the CSC. You're on the right track, but you just need to actually do it. Back everything up. You'll lose it all in the process.
- Use Odin to flash U1's ARF4. Make sure to use 3.13.1 3B patched Odin.
- Once you get to the Samsung screen where setup begins, shut the phone down and go back into download mode if you want to proceed.
- Flash U ARF4 if you want AT&T bloatware. If not, stick with U1 firmware.
- Some carrier features will not work on AT&T, even if you flash the U firmware, because they do not recognize your phone's IMEI as being one of theirs. There are workarounds for it that have been used mostly successfully. Whether you even want to bother with it is up to you. You can stay on U1 if you just want the pure unlocked experience.
EDIT: You'll want to flash all files in Odin. USERDATA is only supplied for the U build. U1 doesn't have that file, since it's just the carriers bloat. Otherwise, make sure to flash all files (AP, BL, CP, etc). Use CSC (*not* HOME_CSC). Again, this will factory reset all data on the phone.

Use the exact Odin I mentioned. Search here on XDA for a download link to it. I use SamFirm to download firmware images. It's the fastest way I've found of getting them downloaded. The websites work too (Updato, SamMobile, etc), but they're slower in my experience.

SamFirm will download a zip file. You'll want to extract its contents into a folder someplace. Open Odin with the phone in download mode (although you can just put it in download mode later right before you flash, too). Anyway, press the little BL button and select the BL file, then AP, etc. until you've selected all of them.
Then press the start button once the phone is in download mode. If you see any errors in Odin as you're setting up, stop and research them first. I think the machine you do it from probably needs the Samsung USB drivers. There are lots of posts here on how to use Odin. You should browse those.
When the flash is done, the phone will reboot and you can start setting it up all over again. To go back to U, do the same process again but with the files from the U zip, instead.

Turn it off, the normal way. Then press Volume Down + Bixby + Power and hold all together. You'll get a greenish download screen. Press Volume Up to proceed to download mode.

the s9 does support sim swapping lol.. but yes, theres a process to get it working.. on the U1 for example sim swapping should work.. U is a bit trickier is all.. def not as easy as it was on the s8/s8+..

yes, that is a modified odin.. i use it sometimes too so he has an issue with the firmwares.. i cant see what hes trying to flash..
i also randomly have had issues at times not losing the md5 extensions so who knows.. hes either bricked or figured it out as its been 3 days lol
also, i personally think updato is a lot quicker than sammobile
also to add, he might have a binary issue as that firm he linked in afh is pretty old
