How would that even work?? Anyone ever put thought into that... Like how would it override the google's new animations/transitions?? Do you think this is where Samsung/touchwiz throws in the towel with updates and just goes straight to Tizen?? I mean that is what they did with their galaxy gear2 went straight to tizen...?
What do you guys think??

I was wondering about this too. The theming for Google apps seem to be pretty much self contained now, and touchwiz for the most part wouldn't be needed... even the new dialer looked beautiful ... as much as I love the colors of the S5, I kinda like Android's theming better...
I hope we can get a clean port over that's fast and smooth... or maybe Samsung could release the system dump that had the drivers without Touchwiz ... I know I know but a man can dream
What are you guys trying to get at? Samsung gets the android source code directly from Google. They can change anything and everything they wish. All the way down to lib files and .so binaries. TouchWiz is simply a launcher.
I wish it was just a launcher. Then settings/dialer/messaging /contacts wouldn't look like that... So unfortunately it's not just a launcher.... ?

Yes. TouchWiz is just a launcher. The stuff you are seeing in those apps is not TouchWiz related. It is the Samsung THEME you are seeing. And they as stated before, they can do whatever they want with it. So long as Android in general remains open source.
Yeah but the skins are going to cover All animations and transitions... Touch wiz is a skin over android..

Yeah. Just like when Samsung updated GB to ICS, there was hardly any difference. When you have a skin like TW on top of android, that's what you get. Even LG's UI. The multitasking UI doesn't look remotely similar to stock 4.4.

I disagree but okay. TouchWiz might be interpreted to people as a theme. But its mainly a launcher. You can delete the TouchWiz launcher and still have a fully functional phone. LG Modifies their settings apks and other apks with their own theme. So i consider TouchWiz to be a launcher and the rest of it to be a Samsung Theme. But to each their own i guess.
Besides, this thread was going nowhere so i was trying to figure out what the point of this thread was.

Go ask an actual Dev if TouchWiz is just a launcher and they will laugh at you. It is EVERYWHERE in the code dude.... don't get how you don't understand that. It is in the settings, phone app, statusbar, lockscreen, notification shade, camera, etc.

Okay i guess that was too broad a statement saying it was just a launcher. But to me, it mainly is a launcher. The rest is just a theme/skin put on by Samsung the same that LG does. I seriously didn't understand what the OP was getting at with "Android L and TouchWiz" they will simply coexist. Samsung will apply their themes and animations over top of the default ones because that is their trademark.

How did you not understand? He was wondering if, for example, the new lockscreen notifications and notification shade would make it's way to our phone, or material design. Or if Samsung would make their own version of L and do it their way. Simple question, not so simple answer.

Well naturally I would assume Samsung will change it. But yes not so simple an answer. I hope they don't change things too much like they did with our phones for the lock screen Widgets.

The same thing that will happen at the release of every new version of android. Google will show a beautiful simplified and sleek version of android and then Samsung will ship it with their skin over it effectively making any improvements Google made negligible.

Ok guys to put all your worries to rest. Samsung will almost certainly not give up on android. Their going to most likely strip android to the basics again and theme everything from the ground up. Just like last time, the time before that, the time before that, etc. Whenever a major upgrade came out they just went with it. All android l is a 3rd coordinate in the os for depth, new re-aamped animations and a new api level. It's nothing for the tons and tons of devs and designers at samsung to take on. Give it time and they will probably release their version of android l. And no, touchwiz is not just a launcher, it's a launcher, a whole new framework jar, and a whole new system ui. Also take into account what they've done to the settings. Tabs, a grid, more options all of it. It's not that easy to build everything from the ground up but it will be done.
You do realize that Samsung put things in their Touchwiz skin that was later adopted by stock android, right?
E.g. brightness slider in notification shade, quick toggles in notification shade, messaging popups, etc.
I'm sure multi window is on its way to stock android as well.

Possibly a dumb question but if I customize my homescreens with adw launcher and other things (going to try for a "hubs" look) when ICS update comes around will that ruin all the customizations? It will be a decent amount of work to get the customization done so would hate to do it and then have to redo it all in a weeks time.

yes, more than likely it will erase all of that..sorry...but ICS own launcher n skin is better anyways so you can try to customize that. plus I heard something along the lines of Google making the ICS launcher n homescreen mandatory or something like that. not sure of the details. maybe that only goes for manufacturers n other companies so they don't put their own skin on top of ICS and slow it down. they said they will be some kind of customization option though. not exactly sure what it is though.

IMO, a General should not be demoted to a Hack, he covers more ground whereas a tinkerer is more specialized. But there is indeed a Q & A section, and there's also a Dev Section so why is hacking called General?
the update can clear your settings but adw has an option for backing up settings.

hmmmm, well think I will wait for the update either way just in case.
adw can back up settings, but last i checked, it can't backup your homescreen configuration.
but it's just going to depend on if the ICS update needs a data wipe, if it can be flashed on top of HC, then you should be fine, otherwise, you'll just need to reinstall adw and reconfigure it.
for the comment regarding the launcher being a necessary requirement for 4.x it's not accurate, google requires that OEM's include the stock "halo (holo?)" theme in the OS to be allowed access to gaaps/market, but it basically means OEM's can still **** up the OS however they want so long as unskinned apps default to the stock theme.
so people who are expecting this to help OEM's update their **** faster, it's not going to do anything at all for anyone really, aside from making apps that don't have their own chrome/framework/skin look like stock ICS apps.
ADW does backup home configuration including icons and arrangement.
I just bought ADW EX so I hope it wasnt a waste of time and money as I absolutely love it.

I believe this is what he is referring to.

Should let you revert back to Holo theme in most instances, and help to get a more uniformed look across differente devices from different manufacturer. This with the Disable App function should help the non-root user get closer to vanilla android. Good approach IMHO

it backs them up on /sdcard though, so i would move those files to your computer or microsd card before updating so that if anything gets wiped you don't lose them

this is what i was referring to, but that does not effect the end user in any way, it's not a way for the user to choose the device theme, it introduces a default (holo) theme that developers can choose to force their apps to use (since it must be included in gaaps/market devices) and it seperates the skin/framework for OEM's to hopefully allow them to push updates quicker since they can work on their UI overlays outside of the OS itself. it also allows developers to let their app choose whatever is set as the default skin for any 4.x device, so if you have a TW or Sense device running 4.x the app can adapt to the framework for those overlays to provide the end user with a consistent UI experience if the developer chooses to do so.
however, as sense and TW dig deeper into the OS itself, this will still keep those OEM's from updating their devices even relatively quickly.
what android needs to do is sandbox the OEM overlays, and force them to release devices with vanilla android and then allow the user to install the OE skin if they choose to do so.
but being that android is made for manuf, and not end users, that's never going to happen.

Ice Cream Sandwich White ThemeWifi Only
This theme simply changes most of the systemui to a dull white instead of the blue that comes with ICS
Also this theme removes the annoying blue bar that comes up at the top when using adw or other launchers
More Colours to come and more of the ui to be changed to fit this color scheme also !
Change Log:
V1.1 - cleaned up bugs like not being able to read text
- changed colour of auto brightness button and changed colour of volume and brightness sliders
V1 - release
I know for sure this theme is compatable with Romanbb's ICS ROM but can somone do me a favour and do a nandroid and tell me if it works on anny of the other ROMS
It should do as at the moment most of the kangs are just trying to get ICS working properly so there shouldnt be many changes between roms

There is a kick-ass themer on the Galaxy Nexus forums (Rootzwiki anyhow) that did a theme called "ICS & Black", that replaces all the very bland grey menus with a super nice translucent black, and quite a number of other changes. I'd love someone to modify that code to run on AOKP/ICS--that theme actually runs on AOKP for the Nexus--I wonder how hard it would be to port it to AOKP/Tab? Honestly this would give you a huge head start, and perhaps that Gsxrdon would let you modify it from there--up to him. I actually like the blue/white combination of ICS, especially since GSX figured out how to get a pure white as opposed to the greyed out white that is stock.

Thanks B00sted for sharing the link!
It generally changes all the menus to a jet black, transparent background versus the grey stock. Also, it replaces the grey-white lettering with pure, bright white--and, yes, uses the stock "ICS Blue". I personally love the look--you have to see it, especially on a Super amoled screen, with those deep, deep blacks. Not quite so good on the tab, but still gorgeous. There are a lot of details to this, including themed gapps as well. All I can say is the final effect is stunning--it all hangs together quite nicely. Stock is so bland compared to this. Even if you don't love that blue, when combined with a pure white and a deep black background, it's lovely.
I think a strong theme on this would do a lot to get more people to switch to ICS, which seems to work quite well-and I"m coming from Task's version of Honeycomb, so I had a great rom to start. I think ICS is simply a better starting point. The black-cyan theme to me is compelling enough that I and many others wait to update our phone rom until the theme is available for that version. I think this would give the tab some real sizzle.
cool well i shall see what it looks like on our tabs :

Does that mean you are going to try to port it over so you can see? If you succeed, I know for a fact I'd like to have it--you may of course wish to modify it further--please bear in mind to provide credit as appropriate to the original developer. It won't look as good simply as the screen isn't as good, especially when it comes to rendering black, but I'm sure it will still be terrific, and I appreciate you taking the time to check it out!

He doesn't want it "stolen"--I'm sure he'll cooperate on this--I have made him aware of the issue directly as well--He was also interested in the differences between the tab and the phone. I assume the rom itself is virtually the same, and I actually tried themeing it--it did boot, but the theme killed the system app so that the softkeys and the status bar crashed. Other than that, it actually worked, in that for example the power menu was themed perfectly, as were many of the application menus. I thought the fact it booted was a good sign. I cannot believe the dev won't let you do this with him for the tab--perhaps you can get joint credit--I would guess that's all he wants, and that he'd help you, though his time is limited. However, since he supports AOKP, I'd think this shouldn't be too hard for him. Please let me know how it goes with him. Regarding the resolution of pictures, I have no idea--the screen on the Nexus has almost as many pixels as that on the tab, when you get down to it--very high resolution screen.

Hi guys, I've been working really hard on an s5 Rom port lately. Doing so I came up with the idea to theme the new Android L Keyboard so that it fits better within the S5 System.
I hope that I'm allowed to share this on XDA. I've done the theme myself but of course the app belongs to Google.
I hope you like it.
My previous version had some problems due to a bug in APKTOOL. Now thanks to a lot of research and the kind help of @Shaftamle I've fixed those problems. Also, instead of using Shen Ye's Android L keyboard I used the latest build from the L preview.
I used some smali mods from Shen's app though to make my theme set by default.
DOWNLOAD LINK HERE! Don't forget about the thanks button
(2.0 version)
MD5: d520de7b8ba1beb428154b7928b2f5ca
Changelog:
V2.0.1 - COMING SOON -
Removed some extra symbols (that appear twice)
Added the full experience to the french azerty keyboard aswell
V2.0
FC issue fixed
Added number-row
Made it much sexier
Made the S5 theme deault
V1.0
Initial release, a lot of FCs caused by a bug in APKTOOL
Features:
Number row with a much slimmer implementation than other mods
S5 Material theme
Removed the annoying fullscreen mode
Much slimmer design (smaller gaps between the rows)
Easy installation due to included libs in the apk
Installation:
Remove any existing Google Keyboard installations, if any
Install the apk (must have allowed "unknown sources")
Leave a thanks
As already stated, this also features a number row(as per user request), which I borrowed from other modders. The big change I made though, which took me a really long time to figure out, was to make the row much smaller, fontsize-wise. It's much prettier to look at and less bulky compared to the other mods now. If any other devs want to copy this addition, feel free to do so. Just don't forget to credit me
I also wanted to add secondary symbols to it, but decided not to do so because of the required amount of smali edits. It would require hours and hours of work to get it working...
I really hope that you'll appreciate this keyboard. I probably won't continue to work on it. I will however update it once Google releases the final version.
It works on all android devices supporting the normal L keyboard.
If you plan on using this in any ROM or use my edits, please ask for permission first. And please do also consider donating if you like this keyboard , I've spent quite a long time on perfecting it.
Have fun!
If you are so good at theming can you make an Android L theme for stock Samsung keyboard? I love the material look of new Google keyboard but unfortunately Google heyboard doesn't have a romanian dictionary. Thank you!

Yeah for qwerty and qwertz and a lot of others. I'll add it to azerty too in the future.
Great job on the keyboard! Sorry to be that guy but would it be really hard to make the material theme a darker shade? I have another material themed Google keyboard that's darker and I know I should just shut up and go use it then but it doesn't have the awesome number row like this one!

I probably will never do that. Although I can give you the psd files if you have photoshop. I masked the buttons so that you can choose whatever color you want in notime. After that, you can use the xposed module Resflux to change the color and apply the pngs. Instead of having to recompile it and mod a lot of xmls.

Well if the design you're talking about is really pleasing I do it. But if it's similar to the color palette of Google: Nope.
Yeah I was just talking about the standard material keyboard color that I'm sure you have seen but a solid black background for the keys instead with everything else the same would be badass!

Yeah, I thought so. Not really a fan of that one... Well, I'll do it cause I just have to revert the changes made to those folders. But it won't do it right now.
Meant to ask.....any other themes getting released?
I know the S5 theme is close enough(way better than Samsung gray), but not quite 006779.
The white is the same as blue on mine. Ah well, I'm using the teal anyway.
Anyway, it does work great on a 900P(Sprint).
Can you please share a version which supports Chinese input? Original Google keyboard doesn't support Chinese either

Hi,
I''m still on an old build of Eclipse S4 TW 2.0 Android 4.2.2 because I think the interface is just right. The Perfect blend of TW / AOSP / Cyanogen. I haven't come across a rom to replace it a year and a half later and I really wanna upgrade so I can enjoy all the newer Android 4.4+ Improvements. But the thing is, no roms seem to have the TouchWiz Notification toggles and brightness slider combo. That is the killer feature for me.
Here is how it looks on my 4.2.2 Rom:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
And below is what pretty much every rom today has. It's a major step back from the easiness and practicality it once was. Everything is several clicks away now.
Does anyone know of a recent rom with the TW toggles and slider combo that is also dark themed? Everything appears to be going to these bright colors that suck battery and blind you in the night.
Thank You.
I like this as well. You might be able to get the black toggles by customizing Hyperdrive in Hyperdrive Tweaks.

I don't personally know of any other ROMs that might include this, but you might be able to search for a notification toggle and brightness slider mod for AOSP or Cyanogen. I think that might be your best bet. Otherwise there are a couple other hybrid ROMs that may include those features.
OR you might be able to install a Google Now Launcher on a touchwiz ROM. I think that would keep the Touchwiz notification toggle, but then give you the AOSP launcher
I can't find anything, or don't know the right words to feed Google, that's why I finally posted.

Have you thought about using Hyperdrive? Install the stock or Note 3 launcher, and then install the Google Now Launcher from the play store after set and I THINK that you should get the result that you're looking for without having to do any theming.
Also, I think that Blackbox is an AOSP\TW hybrid. I havent used it, so I can't tell you what it looks like. I suppose one might check out the thread.
I just found this through Google.

The galaxy gadgets app lets you restore TW Toggles. They look just like that. Im running that setting on eclipse 4.0l2
Hmm, I might have to retry HyperDrive out again. I had it for a few days earlier this year and can't recall it having the toggles. But From what I'm seeing in the screenshots it looks perfect. I remember I was really turned off to it for some reason though.
I was just Googling Hyperdrive after your comment and found a rom called PAC-Man AIO RC1 4.4.4 was just posted like 2 days ago that looks freaking perfect. But I'm not entirely sure if the RC1 build has it, since a lot of the pictures of the notification drawer seem to be from their 4.3 build. But if it does have it, oh boy oh boy, I'd feel like a dog who's owner just got home.
not sure if you want this exactly but i know cm11 has a feature called "quick settings ribbon" and it basically functions the same as the TW toggles. you have them in the notification bar and the expanded view. i dont use cm11 on my s4 though so it might not work as well for you but i assume it would be pretty functional

Really?!! I asked nitro about it one time back when he was building 4.3 and I got the impression he'd never bring it back. Looks like I may be installing his newest version then. How's the stability? I had a lot of problems with his 4.3 build.

Oops, Sorry! I just realized that you didn't just want scrollable toggles, you want the full expandable TW Toggles. I use the scrollable mode, which is similar, but not the same. And it doesn't expand to a full page. Again, sorry for getting your hopes up ):

You mean how they scroll side to side? I like that it does that. The most important thing though is that brightness slider. Actually I wouldn't even mind if the toggles didn't show in the main notification window dropdown, as long as there is that brightness slider. Autobrightness is just, never where I want it.

Hey everyone, this is Genesis. Genesis is a Synergy/Substratum style theme that is loaded with customization. You will find bright gradients and other colors throughout. There are several themes all in one which can be applied withing Synergy and Substratum lite. The opening dialog of the theme has several additional options like the photos button where you can see screenshots of different options as well as the highly recommended to watch YouTube video tutorial in which I talk way too much! It's several minutes of your life that you won't get back. But you will get some valuable information from it nonetheless.
I wanted to create this thread in order to give people a chance to get support and provide feedback to Genesis theme. There are other support channels available but honestly I prefer using XDA and from my experience with other devices and similar threads, I feel it is the best method and is a much more organized way to find information, search and look back at things. So here's the thing. The theme link is not to be posted nor is a link to Synergy as that's a violation of rule 11. However also in rule 11 it is permissible to utilize XDA as a support and feedback system which anyone who knows me from the LG forums will know that I am not only strict about keeping things this way but also see how valuable those threads have been to myself and other members. Those of you who may have followed any of my threads will understand that the threads are great for providing support and feedback.
So a bit of a back story for those of you who don't know me. I've been designing themes for several years dating back to the note 2 (those were absolutely terrible btw!) and then moved onto making Cyanogen mod themes and then I took a break and decided to give LG a whirl. I spent about 3 or 4 years making LG themes which are very similar to Samsung themes but have less restrictions out of box and allow you to theme pretty much anything. I've had virtually all the LG flagships and made probably at least 50 or 60 LG themes. Genesis was inspired by two themes in particular. Rain and Twilight theme. I'll continue to add things as time goes by and add more options. I do not rush things though so you won't be getting rushed updates. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so you can bank on the fact that when I push things out I will try to nail a lot of cool things for you.
Also unlike other themes I will most likely not be adding third party apps to it. If you see third party apps in the theme it is likely just the app icon included. The reason is simple. I've used many themes that have included third party apps and it's great to use. But when these apps update which can be frequently it can often break the overlay which then renders the theme unusable. I made a theme for LG once called Alpha and included tons of third party apps. what I found was that all these third party apps kept updating and each time it would take me a few days to fix it and then submit the update. Then the next day 5 more apps would update. I found myself always chasing app updates which took all of my time and given I was so consumed with fixing app updates it took all of my time from me and I wasn't able to focus on improving the theme whatsoever. I can't do that again. it's exhausting and I don't think it's fair to people who use the theme with hopes of it being maintained or improved. I do tip my hat to those who endure this type of torture and constantly work on updating third party apps. You guys are soldiers and deserve a lot of credit for doing what you do. So what you can do is mix and match elements from different themes. So for example if you want to have gmail themed from Sprite, Valerie or Domination and use system elements from Genesis you can do that just fine! In fact I recommend those three themes. All three are made by good friends of mine who are absolutely brilliant and very talented designers. That's what I do and it works just fine!
So here's the way we do things here. First let's have fun. After all XDA is supposed to be all about us and our fun hobby of tinkering and customization. Don't be a jerk to other members out here. For real that doesn't fly. Please don't link to the theme or synergy on google play. The thread is not here to direct them to it, it's for support and feedback and we'll say a bit of fun. Which means some OT is fine provided it's not too ridiculous. I mean if you have a great meme that's not too offensive I'm all for posting them and having some fun. As long as you're respectful it's all good. If you don't like the theme that's ok, just scroll on by as it's not going to suit everyone's style. Maybe someone else's theme works better for you or you're all about Hex which is also very cool. Speaking of which I don't want people to get into a war over which theme system is better as they both have their advantages and both are terrific theme systems. You can make some requests and or suggestions. However no promises on if they will be implemented or not. However if someone comes up with a great idea I'm humble enough to take the feedback and sometimes I can implement it! Also feel free to post screenshots of your setup. Since there are many customization options it's fun to see the creative combinations some people can come up with. This is highly recommended and encouraged.
Thanks and I hope you all enjoy Genesis. It's where it begins...
Reserved.... Just in case I need it for something later on

Me too. Wish it was doable. Unfortunately Samsung put in some limitations that won't let me do that. I tried! It is believed that some of them are tinted in Java which is untouchable

That means exactly what it says. You have some 3rd party apps that can be used for piracy. The theme will not run with them installed for security purposes

I recently discovered that some devices with different dpi are causing issues. The temporary work around until i sort that out is to lower your font size. That should fix it. I'm currently working on addressing this. Its not something I had anticipated at all and just caught me off guard. I will however fix it.
