PDA.TAR file unavailable, don't know where to find it! - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hi, I'm trying to get my note rooted and I'm following this guide, but the link to the PDA.TAR file does not work.
Is there somewhere else that i can find a link to it?

I hope u had the issue resolved, but if in case you didn't you could always try this two steps (they've worked for me, so it's just a suggestion since it worked for me): the first time I rooted my phone I found a one-click root option, called kingo root (here's their website www.kingoapp.com) It's pretty self explanatory on their website but in a nutshell you just download the app online and it roots your phone. Another way (which I personally found very interesting and I found just by chance) was to flash a custom recovery (CWM or Philz, dunno about TWRP) and after cleaning cache/dalvik and/or wiping device chose to reboot. (Here is a thread from mooneyb with CWM Touch http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2571424) Since you don't need root to flash a recovery since it's done through Odin, when you'll reboot you'll have an option that says that you may have lost root and if you want to fix it. My phone was unrooted at the time this option showed on my phone, and when I chose "yes" and my phone rebooted, SuperSU was working fine and so was Titanium Backup.
Maybe it'll work for you too, so hope this helps!

Ok...I guess I am challenged...Can anyone assist me

Hello Everyone,
Firstly, I need to say that as a previous owner of an original droid, I was able to root it with no problems on the first go around. However, as a new owner of a Samsung Galaxy SII I am finding root a real challenge.
I have no problems getting into download mode and so on....I have successfully placed the clockworks rom onto the phone with again no problems and I have all the drivers working properly. I guess this is where I am obviously an idiot....because I start the Super One Click and it gets to Step 6 and then stops. I unplug the USB....click the debugg off and then back on and reconnect my USB like directed by many posters. However, in my case it will not continue on and finish the install.....
I reboot and do get the small triangle on boot up ( not that I care too much about that really...do have a jig on order however) but I simply can't seem to get it to root.
Again I have followed all the posts and guides for unplugging, unchecking and rechecking the debugging and then plug back in the USB and still nothing.
Phone works fine....everything works...love the phone...just seems puzzling to me. I have Odin 1.82, I have SuperOneClick 2.1.1 and like I said installed the .tar fine to the phone with no worries....just cant get it to root.
Any advice?
i used (this) with no issues.
Does your phone currently have the new KJ1 update? I've read that this new update will not root with the usual methods.. (I could also be wrong...)

Try this rooter "su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip".
Here is the link for it: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LBTUWW1J
After downloading copy the zipfile to your sdcard and flash it in
CWM recovery just like you would flash a rom using the option
"Install zip from sdcard" in CWM.
When its done reboot the phone and it should be rooted.

I tried using the "su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip" and it failed.

s-off no root?

Hi all,
I'm in the process of rooting my phone and I WAS going to put an almost stock rom on it - the bloatware but I'm having trouble running Titanium Backup and getting the phone to recognize that it's been rooted.
So far I have:
Ran Revolution
This gave me S-Off the first go around but didn't install Clockwork Mod, so I ran it again and I have S-Off and CWM now.
After that I had problems with the SMS, Error Code 64 Error Class 2, I called support and they had me do some stuff with ##82# and got it fixed.
Then I downloaded Titanium backup, which told me I didn't have Root.
Grabbed Root Checker, it told me I didn't have Root too.
After more searching I found someone saying that if I hit Problems? in Titanium it would download and update Busy Box for me, so I tried that, only it downloaded a program called Superuser instead (Android with a Pirate Patch logo).
Checked for updates with Superuser and it told me I was Legacy, then when I tried to update it failed.
Grabbed Busy Box Installer and attempted to run it, won't install because it says I don't have Root.
If I'm not mistaken, I can just flash a rom now, but I wanted to backup my apps and data, so I'd like to get Titanium running somehow. I suspect my problems are related to still having the stock rom Sprint gave me on release last July...but I can't get rid of that without getting rid of my apps and data. Is there something I'm missing here?
to gain root access on stock rom, you have to find the proper signed zip (I've used Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip) and install from recovery, s-off is not needed for this operation. If you look there are a lot of how to.
S-off and root are two different operation and they are not related. To get root you need just a recovery

Thanks, I must have missed that. The documentation's kind of scattered to the four winds. I'll let you know how it goes.
you are welcome
i had problem with s-off just because the how to linked a pg86img.zip that not worked with my phones... tons of tryouts then i just redownloaded it from an other link, just worked like a charme at first try
I'm struggling to find a good guide for getting the Superuser zip onto the phone. I'm assuming the file you mentioned earlier will work for the Evo 3D and I found that. I found this and it's saying to install from Fastboot, which I'm not able to find a guide on and not exactly sure how to do...
www dot komodocontacts dot com/page/how-to-unlock-and-install-superuser-su-on-android-without-breaking-ota-updates
It's not as simple as loading the files up in recovery is it?
Any ideas?
well, i've to save the zip on sdcard, then reboot the phone in fastboot to access to recovery (you may enter in fastboot in two way: power+(vol -) or adb reboot fastboot, the you have to enter in recovery and "apply any zip", select the proper zip and ... done
---------- Post added at 08:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:18 AM ----------
I forgot .... you may use "adb reboot recovery"...
Thanks a lot, got it.

[Q] Problems getting root access at galaxy s4 mini

Hi, first i appriciate ure help and the work here is amazing. i wanted to put the question directly to the right threat but i couldnt (no 10 messages).
i have rooted my galaxy s4 as explained in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980.
i did everything exactly as mentioned from step 1 to 9 and it all worked.
When i started my phone, also as mentioned, the knox-file told me that phone has security issues... (i thought "nice, now its definitaly rooted"). SuperSU asked me if it shall block the knox, i said yes and the messages stopped.
To make it sure, i downloaded "root checker", the app asked for permission at superSU, i gave it, then message from phone that permission is given, but then nothing happened. Same for Titanium Backup. When i wanted to set permissions directly at superSU, it said that binary file needs an update. What i did was to update superSU via google play as mentioned in many forums, but still same problem. i also downloaded super user, the app said no root permission.
-> i rooted the phone already 3 times following exactly the instrucions at thread from above, every time the same problem.
I read a lot in forums, my conclusion to the problem is that i still dont have my phone rooted.
- What do you think??
- Has anyone any idea what i can do to get my phone rooted?
- Is there a possibility to unroot the phone? because now i always get questions about permissions, but it makes no difference what i press bec it doesnt work.

It might be kind of a noobie question but i still ask it
I followed the instructions from the thread mentioned earlier, but when i go in recovery mode with the button combo i have the "normal" recovery from android and not the CWM. do i need to flash the CWM to my phone like mentioned for example here at method A?
Another thing: Do you think that my phone is rooted and i just got problems because of the SuperSU binary file?

Place the Update-SuperSUv1.86.zip (I gave you a link for it in previous post) on your sd card then repeat steps 2-7 from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980
Once you are booted into CWM recovery flash the Update-SuperSUv1.86.zip file and reboot. Now go open SuperSU it should ask if you want to disable knox. Say yes and then try root checker.
If you do not have Su binary on the phone then you are not rooted.
There is a file in the phone that reflashes the stock recovery on every boot, you would need to remove it to keep CWM.
Please let me know if this works for you, good luck!

Does anybody knows how to root leagoo lead 2?

Hi people, anyone know how to root leagoo lead 2? This phone uses MTK6582 chipset, rom version is 4.4.2. I tryed root with root genius but it failed, it said that my phone is too tough to root (sorry bad english)
good question
im also looking to root my lead 2 usual tools dont seem to do the trick
Rooting is actually the first and easiest step to begin your journey on android developing, if you can't root, you won't succeed in android development. Don't worry, I will help you with root.
To root your device, I highly recommend Kongo android root(PC), it not only covers a really great amount of device, but is also able to unroot your device, all it takes is just a click after you plugged your device into the PC. Or if you don't want to use the PC, you can install an app that will help. It is called vroot, it is Chinese, so it might be a little hard for you to understand.
Kongo is not working. Stucks at waiting for device. waited about 1 hour and still stucked.
Re
Hi, try KingRoot works for me its chinese app.you can download from website kingroot.net place apk file on your Phone and install then you can root your device very easy
Thanks for the help. APK worked very well .
Is it safe to use this chinese root app
Chrome was warning about a "Possible Dangerous Download File", but I still downloaded it and scanned for viruses.
This is the APK virus scan report : apkscan (dot) nviso (dot) be/report/show/c4340bc2d1322e514e025430dc9c5d7c
I'm not an expert but i recon the antivirus picked it up only because there is lots of low level scripts that root your device i guess (cmdline files?)... and the hard-coded URL's listed in the scan point to few sites: Android.com , QQ.com, kingroot.net, ibutian.com, and non of them seem to be a malware websites.
Anyway let me know if it's all-right to use this APK and root my Leagoo Lead 2
You can use that apk. its safe and worked for me very well.
Tested now with kingroot but unable to root it.
Seems that last OTA update is the problem
Any other suggestion?
EASY DONE
Kingo root - DOESNT WORK forget it!
VROOT dont work - Forget it.
Sat back and had a think and BOOM
went to leagoo website downloaded the new V10 rom listed there.
Unzipped file, Flashed rom to phone first, only cause i wanted to update new device.
After flashing, UNPLUGGED PHONE used MTKDroid tools to flash cmw, (open droidtools, DONT PLUG PHONE IN) and go to root/backup/recovery and choose boot file, it asks to "create cmw automatically" say yes, VIOLA droidtools makes the recovery.
Then used SPFLASHTOOLS to flash cmw recovery - works great.
As i have been playing with MIUI and an Elephone P2000 had the file - UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip
cant do links, so search in google "download UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip" and first link is the winner
booted into recovery, flashed it and have root, easy peasy

Need help uregnt LS990.. PLEASE

Hi,
Today I purchased a new LS990 which was rooted by stump method. Since SuperSU was not installed I installed it and while updating SU binaries it failed and I lost root. When I open StumpRoot it shows rooted but non of the apps have root access.
I am on LS990ZV4. Even did factory reset and then installed Stump root again but still the same problem.
Is there any method by which I can get the root back. The stock tot file is 2.8 GB and I do not have that much data left.
and since I did factory reset I also lost apn settings and to use data I need shortcut master to work which requires root.
Please help.
Make sure the SuperSU you're flashing is at least 2.40. There's a link in the BarRin thread post #2.
If that doesn't work, then you'll need the tot. Stump only works one time.
But if you have recovery, flashing the correct SuperSU should work.

Nope I don't have recovery installed.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
Well, There is a few things you can do for starters though the root files get installed in the /system/ folder of the phone (the part that a factory reset will not touch). One thing you could do is 100% factory reset here are the steps:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-cTpsDLNF8
or this one
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zezqSE-uTE
One or the other will work now since you do not have a recovery it will factory reset/hard reset the phone.
If that didn't work you are going to need to use the flash tool and manuly reflash EVERYTHING this should knock out the root. The other method is a little hard please note that I am not responsible if anything happens to the phone by you doing this good luck!!
Heres the link to the other method http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...de-how-to-restore-sprint-lg-g3-ls990-t2852042
if you need ANY help just PM me i'll get back to asap also if any of these methods work please donate (as a thank you)

Thanks for the reply. The first method didn't worked. Will flash the stock rom now.
Just a few questions (since I am new to G3):
1. After installing stump root and rooting the device. How can I flash recovery? I mean should I use bump method or directly flash the twrp from flashify?
2. Whats the difference between bump twrp and normal twrp?
3. Are there any special roms for bumped twrp or I can flash any rom for LS990?
4. Any other suggestion.
Thanks a lot.!!
Well, for starters DO NOT UPDATE TO ZV6 VIA OTA IT BREAKS ROOT
You can watch/do everything from this video (the info is a little outdated the root takes less then 10 mins now). Heres the link for the video:http://youtu.be/nmeER5btwDo you can download stump root from here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/orig-development/root-stump-root-lg-g3-sprint-verizon-t2850906
Next you will need to install a recovery basicly twrp is probaly the best due to its advanced features so you could dowload that from here: http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/ls990/openrecovery-twrp-2.8.4.0-ls990.img wait 10 seconds and save it to you phone some where (I recommend the downloads folder)
Next follow this video to install twrp: http://youtu.be/k7a5hnefnnM (you can get flashify for free from the playstore)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well flashing a rom isn't that hard but yes it can ONLY BE FOR THE LS990(SPRINT). You can find a number of roms for this phone under the android develoment and original android develomet pages. You can find the links for these and more here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-lg-g3
See all roms are pre bumped due to the fact our bootloader is locked so don't rebump. Make sure when you get to flashing roms you download it for only the sprint lg g3. Make sure that the kernels you flash are only for the type of rom your on and make sure you install gapps when need to.
HAPPY FLASHING!
There is a difference between bumped and non bumped for starter since our bootloader is locked we need to "Bump" the recovery image so that way it doesn't need the bootloader. The link I provided has a pre bumped twrp image so you just need to flash with flashify.
All problems solved. Can someone delete this thread?
