Hello guys,
My problem I am experiencing is with the microphone that picks up sound for videos and voice recording. In calls, it is fine, as the gs2 has 2 seperate microphones? One for calls and other for videos/voice recording.
Anyway, the problem started around 2 months back, it then disappeared after blowing into the microphone hole at the bottom. Now recently, it randomly began to not work again, so the same old static/screetching when recording was present, it even started to not record anything at all so I tried to vaccume it to get dust out, and it then started to record static and very distorted audio.
I left it a day, and WALLA! works, but now it has gone back to not recording any audio at all...
I'm not sure if this is hardware or software related?
Any light to be shed on my problem/suggestions would be really great, its still under warranty as well by the way.
Regards,
Carlos
It sounds like it may be damaged. I'd send it back for repair/replacement.
Incidentally, the SGS2 does have 2 microphones, but one of them is used for noise cancellation. It uses the same mic for both calls and recording. If it's 100% fine for every single call, but bad on video/audio recording then it may be that the recording level is a lot louder than the usual in-call level, and that's why you're getting different results.
Incidentally...

I have a pretty annoying problem because from the earbud (under the wrtitten SONY) comes interfecences while i'm speaking with someone using the mobile line.
The interference is like that of the speaker near a mobile phone but from the earbud.
someone has the same problem or mine is a isolated case?

I think you mean earpiece...not earbud.
If you hold the phone near your ear you can hear a very high pitched hiss sound while you are talking? The sound has a pattern to it. If so, then I have tried 2 of these phones and they both do it. I don't now if they all do it, but it seems to be common. Some people who don't have such good high-pitched hearing will not hear it at all. You will never hear it if you are outdoors...only if you are at home in a quiet room.

I hear it too. It's the usual GSM "cellphone interference" sound.
Hi i have the same i hear that xd
But what i have noticed this is only in GSM mode ...at WDCMA its ok..i cant hear this .
I have the same problem. Got my first phone replaced and the new one came today with the same problem.
Try only with WDCMA (3G) and See if that help.

Now I did some tests,
I tried only GSM mode and there's no problem, only WCDMA -> the same thing
Good also WCDMA/GSM..
sometimes the problem seems to disappear
Yeah I too have the same issue.
Its not everytime but sometimes,
Its like a electronics interference noise.
Don't know what's this all about ://

I think it's for the bad isolation of earpiece, but someone think the problem come out when the XS switchs GMS/WSDMA

i can hear that hissing too, i ve searched about it, and it looks like latest smartphones have that kind of problem, the only solution i could find is not to place your ear directly on the earpiece, fortunately this phone has a great in-call volume...
earpiece hissing, crackling, buzzing - problem solved
well amigos, the problem finally has been solved for me, reading this forum https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3414732?start=0&tstart=0
so i turned off my phone, i removed the sim card, i cleaned it using a soft cloth, and then i inserted it back, making sure the sim card was placed correctly in the tray, i tested it several times and guess what, there was no more hissing anymore, so the problem is the micro sim-card, those sim-cards must be placed correctly otherwise it will make that hisssing sound
i hope this works for you too
greetings from colombia...
Had my first two calls today, same problem. Interestingly, it gets louder/more noticeable when I'm actively speaking, not when the other party says something.
Sim-Card is fresh from the envelope, so there shouldn't be scratches, dust or fingerprints on it, but I'll try cleaning it up tomorrow. Got the phone set on GSM only, since I've got bad 3G/UMTS signal at home and I'm pretty sure constant "channel-hopping" would drain the battery.
Hi,
got xperia S yesterday. Great phone... only problem is GSM interference in the earpiece. It is there every time when phone is set to 2G. 3G is free of this issue. As I can hear at every call it's a bit irritating.
I don't know what should I do: sent it back to the store (bought from amazon), try to repair in the service centre or learn to live with it?
Can any of xperia S owners make a siple test: put the phone in "only GSM" mode and make one or two calls. Put earpiece close to the ear and listen to it. I wonder if it's design flaw and every xperis S have this issue, or only some of them....
Anyone who got his phone replaced and the new one came WITHOUT the same problem ???
tia
Piotr
Piotrze, im having same issue and till now i thought its a problem only of mine phone. And till now ive wanted to send it back to service but if everyone has the same issue it might not be accepted at service, idk.

Thank for reply. Anyone who had this problem and managed to get rid of if by repairing / replacing phone ?
So the deal is that my Xperia S got some water from the ear speaker space. I did the usual stuff (remove battery, let it dry in rice...) And the only apparent issues when I turned it back on was the screen lost its backlight in some areas (doesn't matter much right now) and no Audio Device Works.
Here is the important part:
The Ear Speaker doesn't work, the Back Speaker doesn't work, the Microphone does't work, the Output Jack doesn't work (when there is something connected there, sometimes the phone reboots and keeps rebooting just after the XPERIA logo appears) and the HDMI audio out doesn't work (the HDMI video out does work).
I already tried to clean up those parts with alcohol, and I tried to look for the audio chip to clean any residues from it, but I never found it, but still I clean most of the board and now the phone doesn't reboot when the headphones are connected (but they don't work, there is just a continous noise, whether something is playing or not).
Suggestions?
PS 1: Everything else works normaly, no force closes, no memory loss, camera works normally, even benchmarks haven't changed. The things that I have specially tested are:
Camera, Flash, Physicall buttons, touch buttons, GSM, 3G, WiFi, GPS, Touch, LED, front camera, bluetooth
PS 2: Sometimes after trying to use an app that requires the mic it shows an error message like the one that appears when you connect an incompatible head set. It says the Mic and Buttons on this attachment aren't available or somethin like that.
Here's the manual with part replacement instructions. Try ebay for parts.
Oh, and good luck
btw. you could try to run the device while having the non working parts disconnected from the pcb, just to see how it behaves then.
Leave it in a bag of rice for a day to suck all the moisture out

The audio chip is the pcb that the audio jack connects too. You can buy replacements of that, but its a gamble that it is definitely the problem.

My phone got water damaged 2 weeks ago when I took it out onto the sea. Apparently waterproof doesn't apply to saltwater.
Since that incident my phone has become usable but there are still problems
-the front facing camera doesnt work at all
- the speaker and microphone rarely works. Sometimes the only way for some one to hear my voice is if I'm using the Sony earphones.
- speaking of the Sony earphones, sometimes when I plug them in music plays through the speakers (when it works it annoys)
- turning on noise cancelling emits a horrible sound in the Earphones that can actually be heard by ppl who call me
-vibration no longer works
-the volume button goes berserk sometime, and keeps acting like I'm holding volume down. And if I restart the phone it reboots in safe mode.
- the display now has a holo mark as evidence of the water damage but it's small and I consider this one of the least of damages.
What should I do? I got my like in mid March so it still has warranty. Do you guys think Sony will repair all the other damages under warranty? Or should I send my phone to a 3rd party repair service. I'm looking at quick repair and they seem good, but I'm open to suggestions.
Go and see if your warrenty covers water damage due to a faulty device, if not then you may have to pay sony repair center to fix your device
Sony says their warranty applies to defects and not damage so I guess I will have to send it of to them and see what they say. Thanks for your help.
hi..just bought this phone about 2months, now i'm facing No sound/audio at all, here's some detail and if anyone of you any good hardware repair skills here, i need your help, as i believe100% it's not the software issues:
1. phonecall, on stock MIUI (NoROOT/customkernel,pure officialrom) its freeze/hang when dialling numbers - few second latter its rebooted itself. voice recording app won't work can't use the app as its error pop-up said, and sometimes i need to hard restart to use the phone again. and its gime bootloop and drained battery (4000mah cannot even survived for 7hour), even with no internet connections the battery still drain fast.
2. when someone calling me,there's no ringtones, even when i answering the call there's no sound at all, no musics sound, any audio files i play only hisssing/noise sounds i can hear just like feedback sound.
3. Unlocking Bootloader, replacing other rom the sounds completely disapear, no hissing, noise at all (CM,Mokee) and still phone app freeze/hang when i try make a phonecall,(reboot/hardreset)the only solution to make the phone back in usable state.
4. installing Citrus ROM, the sounds back but only hissing/noise sound on sometimes i can here the sound with some feedback issues. phone app works i can make a call without freeze/hang,no reboots, but i can't totally hear someone talk to me at all, but when i turn on the loudspeaker i can hear someone talk to me (with some annoying feedback sounds),
5. as i bricked it once and need to reach testpoint so i believe its not under warranty, seal already broken.
6.ordering the parts, connector charging board(which contain whole set new audio i guess hope can fix the issues, but just noticed that if that's part causing the no sound issues, its only fix the audio such as music,ringtones..not the front speaker(phone related still not repairable)
7. trying contact some friends which some understand about hardware told me, i break down the IC Audio so its imposible to repair/change that part since its directly micro-soldered to the mainboard.
anyone have same problem as mine?, or some of you have solutions for my problem please reply .thanks

Same problem as mine.
Even the video recording do not work too.
Is there any solution how to fix it?
I use it as ipa/od without ability to make / receives any phone call, so many ppl has the same problem here seems was Xiaomi's bad hardware components, which mine believes caused by sudden-removal audio/aux jack while its still playing the musics
anyone know the average price to fix the sound ic compared to the phone? maybe 10%, 25%, 50%, or above the price of the new units?
I have the same problem,, could any one tell me where I can buy the hardware (IC sound).
Plz tell me solution. My mobile mi note 3 audio problem, audio only listen Bluetooth.

Redmi NOTE3
I need audio IC for Redmi NOTE3 we're can I buy
hello.it is an old topic. i hope it be useful for anybody else. a few days ago My redmi note 3 pro kenzo was damaged by water. after that when I turned it on, logo of my custom ROM was appear and boot loop ... First I think it was for ROM or kernel. I installed another ROM with other kernels. I could turned on my phone and enter to user interface. but everything that was related to sound ( like : camera-music-call-headphone,... ) was not work at all. I searched a lot. I found out the problem is for Audio IC (WCD9306 Audio IC) this model. https://www.deviceparts.com/wcd9306-audio-ic-for-xiaomi-redmi-note-3-ori.html
it is used in Samsung mobile phone like S4. however you can buy it. but the main problem you can't change it by your own without tools . if you are familiar with hardware it could be useful: http://www.u2ugsm.com/blog/xiaomi-redmi-note-3-ringer-solution-jumper-problem-ways/
I think cleaning IC with cleaner or alcohol might be useful. good luck
Edit: After 4 hours I turned it on and sound is back! I just cleaned it by alcohol and cleaner. but I made mistake. a little bit of that alcohol-water liquid is entered in my LCD screen. I put it in warm place and hope it will get better.
