My phone got water damaged 2 weeks ago when I took it out onto the sea. Apparently waterproof doesn't apply to saltwater.
Since that incident my phone has become usable but there are still problems
-the front facing camera doesnt work at all
- the speaker and microphone rarely works. Sometimes the only way for some one to hear my voice is if I'm using the Sony earphones.
- speaking of the Sony earphones, sometimes when I plug them in music plays through the speakers (when it works it annoys)
- turning on noise cancelling emits a horrible sound in the Earphones that can actually be heard by ppl who call me
-vibration no longer works
-the volume button goes berserk sometime, and keeps acting like I'm holding volume down. And if I restart the phone it reboots in safe mode.
- the display now has a holo mark as evidence of the water damage but it's small and I consider this one of the least of damages.
What should I do? I got my like in mid March so it still has warranty. Do you guys think Sony will repair all the other damages under warranty? Or should I send my phone to a 3rd party repair service. I'm looking at quick repair and they seem good, but I'm open to suggestions.
Go and see if your warrenty covers water damage due to a faulty device, if not then you may have to pay sony repair center to fix your device
Sony says their warranty applies to defects and not damage so I guess I will have to send it of to them and see what they say. Thanks for your help.

So the phone got a problem after the ICS update, as seen in the video.
Do not know if it has anything to do with the ICS update or something else,
problems are there with stock ICS and stock kernel,
now its running a cKRsH Kernel v3.0 ICS and RealICS 3.1 with the same effect
If entering service menu ( *#*#7378423#*#* ) and run the testprograms for
microphone and speakers, nothing is wrong and they seem to work as they should.
Starts with the person that i´m speaking with hearing itself, and then the acoustic feedback (?) starts and behave as shown.
If opening the USB or 3.5" protector the weird sound stops but the other person is still hearing itself.
If used any kind of headset the problem is gone.
If its on speaker, the problem is gone
If removing the back cover, keeping the waterproof cover the problem is gone
If removing the waterproof cover keeping the back cover, the problem is gone
if both covers are mounted and I lay my fingers on the back, the weird sound stops
but the person i´m speaking with still hear itself, and my voice is barely noticable.
if pushed a little bit the high pitched noise sounds more like a bass sound
Spoke wit Sony support which had no answer and wanted me to send the phone
to them for repair, but due to unlocked bootloader (pinpoint) and rooted, No warranty.
On the utubevid I did get the suggestion flashing another baseband, but that
the guy on Sony I spoke with said would make no difference
I have searched alot, and may be because my mind is missing some english words
that I cannot find anything regarding this issue. What to do?
Problem solved
Hardwareproblem, microphone was too sensitive, replaced
I have a 14w15 Z2 and begin to dislike it. Yes, the front screen gap is there (but the Z1's back screen was similarly misaligned), 4k videos turn the phone into asmall frying pan, front and rear camera are off-center (similar on the Z1 but not as bad) and I needed to turn off noise reduction to improve call quality.
What really sucks now is that once there has been an incoming or outgoing call no music is played via headphones anymore. The phone has to be rebooted to fix this. Note, that the headset is still recognized and the noise canceling still works (after unplug/plugging 1 or 2 times).
So I guess this is a software issue, which hopefully is corrected soon.
Anybody else with this problem?
Cheers,
Torsten
Early batch Z2s often have faulty hardware, sometimes firmware, try repairing through Sony PC companion
If your phone still acts up Try getting a replacement
4K does heat the phone up, thats the only normal part

OK so this is my second Z2 which was sent to me after SBE Ltd (Sony's repair partner for Three UK) lost my 1st Z2 after I sent it to them for the repair of the above error. I own both the noise cancelling headphones & STM10 microphone and after using them for a couple of weeks, they fail. They first of all stop being recognised, then on the right side of the sound/recording there is a repetitive click and no noise cancellation at all. Both phones were not immersed in water, both phones have never been rooted, as such both phones are stock. In the case of the 1st one it ran .52 this unlocked version (ex-review unit!) Runs .314 yet both have failed in exactly the same way. I was recording my girlfriends grandma's 90th birthday in 4K for future generations and guess what, click click click all over the audio. This phone is so annoying. Anyone have any ideas wtf is going on? I've tried factory reset/software repair and nothing works. I'm loath to send it back to have the same **** happen again. Thanks in advance.

I dont think there is a fix for faulty hardware you may have to send it back or just switch to another xperia, Z2 has some problems and non faulty units are slowly becoming more common, not very fast but slowly.
I had a simular issue where when i sent the Z2 to the repair centre the phone wss stolen from the postal company, eventualy sony sent me a unit that was checked for not being faulty simply because i told them so
I dont know how sony can mess up 1 phone so bad yet the rest never faced a manufacuring error
Lol new stuffs always break

I got the same click sound when I plugged regular headphones in after having had the phone immersed in water. I believe its the phone trying to determine what is plugged in to the port. Mine would plat for 5 secs with a quiet clicking then stop. I repeated it a few times and the problem reoccurred . After i let the port dry out completely there were no further problems.
Never been in water, so not water related.
Hello!
Half year ago I purchased my Z2 and after using it for a month some problems started happening with the jack plug. When I plugged in any headphones and started listening to music, it would stop if the jack got moved even by a tiny little bit, like if you put it in your pockets or just by rotating it with my hand very slightly.I took it to the local service centre and they replaced it.It was working fine until now and it started doing it again. My phone is fortunately waterproof, never had problem with that.I'll take it to the service again but do you have any idea how to prevent this next and what could cause this?
Thank you
Bad luck bro.No one from here complained about that kind of problem. From my experience the only problem i had with the jack was when i dived the phone in to water. After that the jack was not responsitive for like 2/3 hours.I dont know if there is some kind of protection preventing it from working so that the jack can dry in that time. After the 2/3 hours the thing was that when i plug the earphones in it the same problem like yours occured for like 1/2 hours.Sometimes it detected the earbuds, sometime it didnt. It constantly connected/disconnected them, but only for like half an hour or so,then it went back to normal working perfectly.
I got the same problem, and my girlfriend got it also since two weeks ago. I fixed it (actually not fixed it, but made it much less annoying) on my phone by blowing in my headphone jack. (It has nothing to do with water here, phone hasn't been in contact with water!!)

Wow! I remember trying this before but it never worked, now I got out all the dust with a chopstick and I blowed in it really hard and now it's working perfectly.Don't know how long this is gonna last but thank you!
I have sometimes fibre from jeans stuck in the headphone jack and have to use needle to take it out, otherwise headphones aren't detected at all. I almost had a heart attack that the phone is damaged, but it was just debris from a pocket..
You could also try enabling the Smart Connect - Music on the go such that it would auto play the music tracks that you have to mitigate the problem u are facing. Else, try to get a RMA

That wont solve it at all lol. It has nothing to do with software.
I had such a problems. I messed a bit with a screwdriver and I got it fixed, but DON'T do that if you have warranty. I was scared that I almost broke it forever back then but I somehow fixed it and never touched it again.
However, what you can do is to take a needle and on the bottom there might be some dirt from the pocket. Try to take it out.

It's most likely software issue. the proof is me. I had same problem. When my Z2 can detect the earphone, I tried to reboot it without unplugging the earphone. Guess what, the earphone is undetected after phone reboot. And unplugging / plugging it again did nothing. There's workaround though, my Xiaomi Piston had button on it, so I pressed the button while plugging the earphone (there're a lot of thread about it here). Then it worked, sound came to the earphone, but the buttons didn't worked (when it works normally, the button works). So I think it's most likely have something to do with the software. If it was hardware issue, then once the earphone detected, a reboot would still make it detected.
It never happened so far on the bundled noise cancellation earphone, always detected, spot on.
The title says it all. When I am in call and when I press my phone a little bit harder on my ear, speakers don't work. It is very weird and hard to live with because I usually press my phone harder on my ear... Please someone help. Thank you!
Sounds like the speaker is partly broken. Have issue with mine to, no sound at all most of the times. But that's more or less my fault, dropped it pretty hard two times the same day. Had it repaired two times now, without any success. So I got a XZ2 Compact instead. I think the speaker itself is just pressed to the motherboard, rather then soldered. Had to repair it a while after I got it for speaker problems (luckily, on warranty ).
