Looking for an android keyboard that has a wide spacebar. If you look at a decent physical PC keyboard or typewriter, the spacebar will be ~ 75% of the keyboard width.
Android keyboards are half of that. They sacrifice the spacebar so that they can shoehorn in more extraneous keys. That works okay if you only type with your thumbs, but if you have any touch typing skills it just leads to constant typos from hitting adjacent keys beside the narrow spacebar.
One could adapt to a narrow spacebar.. but that would build badit habits that impair your typing on PC keyboards. I am looking for an on screen keyboard that has a much wider spacebar. Or even better.. does anyone have an idea what code specifies key sizing (to mod an existing keyboard)
Any ideas?

Have you tried Swype? It's the only keyboard I use, across several devices and learning to do it is not that hard and it is very fast

Thanks! I just installed it and am liking it a lot! One thing that could be better would be more/custom gestures; I really like swiping in from the right, but it can hinder simple touch presses on the right-side of the screen

True, found that out also... It appears the software is still in development so i hope its gets better and better
try this, i use it on my phone all the time. it doesnt work off of a fling, but it lets you adjust several different grids in several locations, i put mine on top left, i RARELY trigger it with a simple tap
I use LastPass. LastPass used the sample soft keyboard (modified for the app)
I managed to do the OTA ICS upgrade... oddly I was still rooted after the upgrade?
I haven't seen any other posts about this so I assume it's something specific to my setup/phone
The LastPass folks are looking into it but can't reproduce it.
Problem: The character labels on they keys are a dim white outline instead of solid.
On GB the upshift, keyboard, space bar, and delete keys are labeled this way but on ICS ALL the keys are labeled this way. It's very difficult see making it hard to use. I have no idea where the sample soft keyboard gets it's labels from but I was thinking maybe I'm missing a font file or something like that.
Any ideas?
My decommissioned Droid 2 is running 2.3.4
My Droid 4 is now on 4.0.4 after upgrading from the GB it came with. When it was on GB the keyboard looked identical to that on my Droid 2.

Hi guys
I'm currently surfing the Web via Samsung Note 10.1" (old one with new firmware) and I'm kinda displeased with the thumb keyboard.
It does have a few nice features. But I prefer the prediction on my Z2 phone.
The question is: Does the Z2 Tablet have a split thumb keyboard?

If yes, has this keyboard been ported to other Rom's yet?
And how do you like it?
Greetings
Haldi
Try installing SwiftKey. It's got amazing prediction and can switch between normal and thumb mode.
oh, i didn't know Swiftkey now has a thumb mode, gonna try that. thx.
Not sure how much I like that.... The prediction sure is flawless but you can't move it totally at the bottom
The sony keyboard that comes with Z2 tablet has 3 modes:
-full
-split thumb
-mini
All of them can be movable up and down and the mini can be moved accross the screen as well

I recently flashed my Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 with AOSP NeatROM (4.4.4), previously I was using the stock ROM.
Problem:
NeatROM by Sale is great, but I really missed one thing, i.e. the Samsung keyboard and the predictive text. The keyboard layout by Samsung was excellent, keys were spaced to avoid typos but the AOSP Keyboard isn't as good as that and also it also doesn't have predictive text as good as Samsung's (though people say Samsung devices use SwiftKey for text prediction). I installed Super SwiftKey for the predictive text but the keyboard layout wasn't up to the mark (I went through all the themes) and due to buttons being close typos are becoming a headache.
Requirement:
I need a keyboard similar to the Samsung keyboard (i.e. has sufficient space between the rows) but with predictive text. So a theme for SwiftKey might do or if I could get the Samsung Keyboard on my phone on the current custom ROM, that'd be great.

There's a built in tool for screen recording on Samsung Galaxy phones. Using the s-pen there's a button on the recording toolbar for showing a pointer instead of the very small and almost invisible circle, when hovering the s pen without touching the screen. I was at first happy since I'm recording howto guides. But I don't find it useful since the pointer turnes into the standard small almost invincible circle when hovering a link or a button. Very confusing and it looks unprofessional. Also it's not consistent between apps. I don't need the pointer to change on mouse over. And if it changes, I want it to be visible and with the same style. Is there a workaround for this? I already tried Good lock s-pen settings app but with the same on mouse over result. In the Galaxy app store it looks like I want it to: The pointer does not change on pointer over button.
