Hi,
the title says it all: Is it possible to use the libart.so from Android L in Kitkat? As there are many improvements as I heard of now, this would be great if that's possible

I was wondering the same thing. I am using ART right now on kitkat but inam not getting anything close to the gains Google talked about at IO

As far as I am aware it's not possible as there are additional options that would need to be set during the compiling of the ROM itself. Also the version of ART of Kitkat and Android L are quite different, and trying to run the Android L version on KitKat would cause many incompatibles.

The version of ART in KitKat was an early implementation designed to give developers a taste of whats to come not as a general use feature for the public. As a result the performance in ART on KitKat and on Android L will be quite different, and it's unrealistic unfortunately to expect to see Android L performance gains on the KitKat version of ART. Keep in mind as well ART will keep getting tweaked and improved by the time the final version of Android L is released.
Yeah using directly the libart.so from Android L in KitKat sounds strange, but shouldn't it be possible for the devs to include the progress from Google into their source? Or are there parts of ART Google didn't publish?

In theory it's possible to provide this as Google has started to add components of the Android L preview to it's open source repositories (I haven't looked which particular components have been updated and hadn't been updated), however how well the complied sources would play with KitKat if at all is debatable.

Well guys here is a good news for all NovaThor device users, the android kitkat (4.4) has been successfully ported to samsung galaxy s3 mini based on CM 11 the ROM is bug free galaxy s3 mini which is a NovaThor chipset device.
Hope so developers take interest in this and port it to our xperia p,u,go,sola

munjeni & percy should see this
Awesome news! Hope that the devs can do smth
Ok, so release is coming as I said. But don't expect it to be bugfree - we made a new device sources (it was easier than porting sources from 4.3 and better for overall performance) and we need your reports about bugs!
Starting from tomorrow we're planing everyday nightlies - both CM11.0 and CM10.2 (but remember, CM11 is getting hundreds of commits everyday, so somedays we won't be able to compile it properly, what means no nightly sometimes).
Also Xperia developers asked me for help they to boot CM11 on their Novathor Xperias. As I said to them, I will do my best to help them get working CM11 on other Novathor devices.
So stay tuned, make backup and get ready to test!

Well i dont like CM but i hope we can get a stock KK 4.4 Based Rom for our Xperia P but we shall see in next year how the KK 4.4 looks like on the Z1
Its really great!! lets give the good devs a few weeks time.... the work they are doing is awesome!!

Off course brother if the z1 gets the 4.4 update we might be able to port the launcher and apps to our xperia p. As per google said the low config phones...
with 512 mb RAM will be able to run 4.4 smoothly. Now we have to see that 1x2 ghz xperia p with 1 gb Ram gets a official update or not.
How would be the idea of porting s3 4.4 rom?

It'd be really increadible to see working Lollipop on Xperia P, a 2012 phone with newest software? I'll take it The devs don't have all the source codes for hardware, so I imagine optimizing for our devices won't be buttery smooth (as it isn't with Kitkat either)

128mb? for lollipop? i don't think so...kitkat rom is over 200 mb...so it's totally fake....also sourses are few days relesed, and devs in Xperia U Dev Thread said that we have no such skilled professionals to build even alpha rom so fast...
by the way, look at the screenshot on that link....build number is KOT49H, which stands for Android 4.4.2...

I don't think Sola will be able to handle Lollipop properly, because of the low RAM and old GPU.
Lollipop is full of visual overhaul and animations.

Even AOSP N for Z2 is not stable at the moment and so the stability and possibility for CM14 will be greatly questionable.

No offence but what I think is that if we move on to CM14 without fixing the known bugs and there will be a mix of CM bugs and AOSP bugs, which, from my point of view, will be even more harder to debug.

Anything beyond CM12.1 / AOSP 5.1 is anything but stable. But there's an official Android 6.x ROM out from Sony, but that doesn't help us much, as there's missing source code, like always, with every manufacturer.

No, definitely not. SONY cannot release the N source code for Z2 is not due to his company's plan, it is due to hardware limitation. In Z2, we don't have OpenGS EL 3.1 that supports Vulkan but Google GPL license demand all devices that can have official OEM support on Android N to have Vulkan compatibility, that's why we cannot have any official source code on N despite the fact that Z2 can actually run N without any problems.

Sony Mobile is committed to supporting the open developer community, and one way to show this is by publishing parts of our code as well as selected tools developed by our internal developers.
For some of the Xperia™ devices, we provide Android™ Open Source Project (AOSP) device configurations on GitHub. This means that the software will be open for you as a developer to use and contribute to. This is a way for us to support the open Android community, and it is also a tool for us to facilitate and verify contributions to AOSP.
If you want to build AOSP for your unlocked Xperia device, you find all the resources you need in the sections below.
