[Q] Half of digitizer works after replaced with new. - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I initially dropped my phone in water (sink), got out immediately and dried in rice. 72 hours later I powered up and all apps work, sound, making calls etc work. The problem is only half the screen works. I've replaced with a new digitizer and LCD screen. And still only half of the screen (same half) works. Do I have any other options? PLEASE HELP Please. My phone was purchased from AT&T if that helps.

Did u replaced the digitizer and LCD or u went to some service center?
Without knowing the problem and changing both the things blindly, surely, waste your money. If touch was not working buddy, then why u replaced LCD?
Okay, now its done, better move on.
If replacement didn't do any good, Then there might be a chance of other hardware problem... You can contact your provider's service center, they will surely look into this matter.

Thanks, I'll call service center. The parts that I replaced were free from a friend, so no loss of money. The screen was cracked from a previous drop but still worked fine and the LCD had a couple of white spots after it fell in the sink. So I changed both for reasons other than just the digitizer not working properly.

I also have been having touch-screen problems. Several parts of the screen don't respond to touch. I'd rather fix this phone than replace it.
I am running Android 2.3.6, kernel 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#2.
I see there is no screen calibration for this version.
I have purchased another digitizer screen but have not yet tried to install it. The ATT service center is not likely to help, as I have rooted the phone and enabled side-loading and mobile tethering.
Two questions:
1. Could changing to a later Android version and doing a screen calibration fix this?
2. How should I prepare for replacing the digitizer, other than a Titanium Backup?

[Q] Oh my poor Aria! (Screen Replacement issues. A little help please?)

Well I did it... Broke the screen a couple of weekends ago. Ordered and received a new one. (No problem and not too bad price-wise) Then I ordered the correct screwdriver. That came in yesterday and I followed a couple of tutorials online to take the thing apart. Not too bad despite the teeny-tiny parts. I got it back together and lo-it worked! Actually it took a couple of tries and I reflashed it but then it booted right up. All the apps seemed responsive and life was good once again...
Until I tried to make a call. Then the screen went dark and it appeared that the phone froze up. Called myself from the house phone and discovered that the Aria was dialing, connecting, and sending voice but that I couldn't hear anything on the Aria.
Disassembled, re-set the earpiece, reassembled, called myself again, and I could hear. The screen came on and stayed on, but the touchscreen would not function.
Disassembled, checked all the connections, and reassembled again. The phone appears to work correctly in all aspects until I try to make or receive calls. At that point the screen shuts down and the only way to disconnect a call (or get the screen back) is to pull the battery and reboot.
I tried reflashing the ROM and that didn't work. I'm afraid the transceiver is shorting the screen out somehow but have reached the limits of my expertise.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jerry
I have never had to replace my digitizer so only speaking from what i have read but it sounds like the very small rubber piece that covers the proximity sensor. I have read that if missing or not placed correctly people have had the same problem as you. Just my thoughts
I've replaced my digitizer and I have had the exact same problem. E.Cardo is correct, it is the small rubber piece on the proximity sensor not positioned correctly or not present at all.
Thanks to both of you. The proximity sensor is supposed to be right behind the ATT logo, correct?
I can't wait to get home and try this. I really don't like the backup Cliq Xt... I'll post once I've messed with it.

It's hard to see them exactly so I took a picture to show exactly where they are:

It's actually just above the & in the at&t logo, although if you have a replacement digitizer, it might not have the at&t logo on it. If you have trouble seeing it, try looking at it in the sunlight.
To add to what drumist said there as small black rubber piece that goes around the proximity sensor that prevents light seepage and allot of people discard it by mistake when disassembling the phone.

Why did you have to reflash? The new screen didn't worked?.
My aria's screen is broken too. I boutgh a new one but It doesn't work. Do you resolve this reflashing? (that's mean applying the new rom version from ATT)
Thanks for your response.

The screen or digitizer are hardware they should have nothing to do with the rom. The op only tried flashing the phone to illuminate it is a possible source of the problem. It sounds like you did not install the new screen or digitizer correctly you may need to disassemble and make sure everything is connected correctly and securely. Flashing your phone will most likely not correct your problem.

Maybe, just maybe, there are new drivers for the touchscreen included in the rom. I am using cyanogen 7.0.3 without problems, and it works nice with the old screen.
Or the new screen is defective.
I am pretty sure I installed correctly the new screen. Of course the old one is working fine right now.
I requested a new screen so I will wait...
Thanks again.

screen up and dies... -_-

My digitizer died..? It just stopped working altogether. It was fine this morning.
I know the atrix screen is known for it's issues...
but I recently got it checked up at the Motorola Service Center in Seoul and spent time trying to get some parts fixed up...
I tried removing the screen protector, reflashed the PDS partition using method 2, took apart the phone and reassembled it.
Am I missing anything? Any possible fixes?
It remains only to replace the digitizer

Line on keyboard off calibration after screen replacement.

I just got done replacing my broken screen on my LG G3. I replaced the whole front panel and just transfered the guts. Everything checked out fine after replacement until i typed my first text message. row A-L will not goto screen unless I touch nearly inbetween the middle of the row beneath it. q-p work fine as well as z-m. What really has me boggled is that the screen accepts touches there in virtually every other app/drawing. Just the keyboards aren't allowing touch in that specfic row. any suggestion?
Found a few more bad section.. Pulled the back loudspeaker back out and tried reseating the cables and still had same issue. They're sending a replacement for free.
This was my first screen replacement, but not my first time dealing with small ribbon cables. All cameras function fine, hoping it was a defect in screen and not my screen changing abilities.. Any tips for the next one would be appreciated. Would like to have a fully functioning phone again sometime. This is nearly more frustrating than the broken screen.
I am having same Issue

Hey just curious if your issue has been resolved.... I am having same issue, but i took mine to a computer store i have been dealing with for years. about a year ago they started doing cell phone repairs as well. I had them replace my cracked screen on my LG G3 and that same row of text if off for me and there are a few other spots i have noticed are off as well .... very frustrating... Anyway the place I took it to has replaced 3 screens hoping they were getting defective parts.... they just called to tell me I can come get it but they were unable to repair the dead spots without going further into replacing boards or something.... I dont know... It is weird though cause you can get the dead spots to work sometimes by very lightly touching or just touching it in just the right spots like a calibration if off....

A review on G3 LCD's on Amazon reports the same problem "I installed the screen and immediately my wife mentioned that it seemed to have "dead spots" when she was texting / playing games. I noticed it myself when I tried texting myself as a test. Several of the letters on the keyboard just wouldn't register very well. She went into the settings and ran the "motion sensor calibration" test under general settings>gestures. This has resolved the touch screen issues. "
I don't see how that would fix it but I guess it's worth a shot.

Can you send us some pictures?
At this phone you can change only the digitizer or digitizer with lcd i reccomend this one. The digitizer for this phone is glued on lcd.
At my wife phone appeared some shadows on screen when she droped the device on watter.
I opened the phone(bye bye warranty, chinese waranty) and dried the phone. Shadows are gone now.

i think they must be video(not picture) because the lcd is fine. flawless. the problem is about the touches. i dont touch it but it act like i touched it. do you understand the situation? i didnt do anything but it( the lcd) act like i touched it. i dropped the phone few times but nothing happen. until one day, the phantom touch suddenly occur. the touchscreen is quite ok for now. it acts normally since last night. before that i let the battery drained out and recharge until half of the capacity. so what do you think?

Touchscreen ghost touches(screen flickering)

Hey guys, recently I had my Z2 sent to a service shop because it wasn't turning on or charging. The guy at the shop said that it was the battery fault and he changed it, but he also told me that the screen was not working( flickering, ghost touches, unable to work on it). So he put my old battery on and when I went home the phone actually turned on and booted up, but still I had the screen problem. So whenever I touch the screen it doesn't respond and it touches by itself. Tried putting it on rice for 20 hours, dried with a hairdryer and assembled dissamssebled the screen jacks, still the problems wasn't fix. Do I really need to change the whole LCD or is this a problem that can be fixed?

Yes, you have to change the screen, or more precisely, the digitializer.
But since the LCD and the digitialier come in one-piece, you have to change it as a whole, but at a much lower price, as your screen can be sold again and recycle the good LCD panel.

So replacing the LCD would fix the problem right? That's great then because I found an LCD with a very low price (20$), completely new on ebay and I sucessfuly dissassembled the old LCD out of the phone. I'm gonna buy it as soon as possible. Thanks man.
