Are you sure you are well rooted?
I've got a stock 402 rooted with the same tool and everything is working like a charm. I have removed tons of official craps with Titanium Backup without any problem.

[Q] Error updating to 4.0.4 via OTA

Hello guys,
I received a notification today saying that 4.1.B.0.431 update is available for my device. When I try to update the device restarts and it seems like it is updating. then it starts up and I get a message "The software update could not be installed"
If i try again it re-downloads the update then again fails..
Anyone can tell me what might be the cause of this?
I have Neo V .562 LOCKED bootloader with root and cwm installed.
Note that my SI number is NOT in the list that is in Sony site.
Thanks in advance.
you need to remove cmw before ota update

Thanks for your reply. Will i be able to re-install it again after update?
This also means that i keep root right?

Yes.. you can reinstall after update, and your device will stay rooted
I just tried repairing .562 and then root without installing CWM, when I try to do the OTA update again the same error message pops up "new software version could not be installed". need help
EDIT: Repaired again, rooted, and didn't install or disable any app then tried the update and it worked.
Strange..
worked fine for me..
Damn! still no OTA here
No ota to me tip ,and im on the sony list

hi, are you sure your bootloader is LOCKED? or your bootloader is RELOCKED?
i have the same problem with you, the download are fine but cannot install the update, and i have RELOCKED bootloader. my phone is Xperia Neo.

No, I've never unlocked the bootloader. But I suspect Titanium backup or link2sd might be the cause because these are the only apps I installed the first time. Try removing them If you have them and try again. Or repair then root then try update before doing anything else..

This might be silly but.. have you guys tried manually checking in update center (not waiting for notification)?
Other than that, I honestly have no idea.
hello ,
i also have xperia neo v with 4.0.3 rooted. i have never involved with cwm or bootloader... just rooted.
i am trying to update to 4.0.4 via ota but at the third step the last 10 times i tried my neo just fails... and when it restarts i receive the failure message...
does anyone had the same problem and solved it?
thanks,

How to unroot?

Is there any possibility to unroot the device without flashing and wipe data?

Unroot? Sure, remove the binaries the su proces installed, uninstall SuperSU or whatnot.
Is that really the question? Or did you modify the ROM, recovery, etc too?
Yes I do have custom revovery and I have also some mods. But I don't really care about them.
The reason that I want to unroot without flashing is for an application from the market, nova Go that doesn't let me play tv unless the device is unrooted.
And if I reflash I have to wait a month to reset my account because it lets only 2 accounts per month (2devices) the other device is my laptop.

Install RootCloak ..you can find it in Xposed Module .. it allows you to run apps that detect root without disabling root.

[Q] How to update with Root?

Hi guys,
My Z2 is on .402 right now and rooted with towelroot. I also installed the Xposed framework.
Now I want to update to .314 since it enhances the voice quality so much.
EDIT: bootloader is locked!
What would be the smartest way to do this? After the Update I'd like to root the device again and also install the Xposed framework.
Can I just update regularly and then root again?
I already checked out this thread where a guy said that the Xposed framework could mess up the update:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792520
Thanks in advance!

Are you wanting to update via ftf Flash?
You can update via PC companion, but it
Is best to do a backup first and do a wipe before rooting. Then you can restore apps etc. I found this the easiest way to do it. So my procedure was 1, backup 2, update 3, root 4, restore apps etc.
Hope this you m8

This is what I did.
(1) Flash the 314 firmware via Flashtool.
(2) Root the phone again (use this)
(3) After the reboot, go to Xposed installer and "Update/Install" the Xposed framework (the settings of your modules will be automatically reapplied after the reboot).
I re-rooted using ERT v11 and tr.apk v3 :good:
Alright! Thanks a lot for the help!
I thought there was a way without wiping the phone.
Will try flash tool!
What backup solution can you recommend me while we're at it?
Thank you so much!

While flashing the 314 firmware via Flashtool, untick the Wipe Data option and you'll keep your data intact.

Ok, so I understand that it is not necessary to wipe.

Yes, NAndroid requires root permissions.
You can find solution here: technorms [dot] com/39708/android-backup-4-best-options

Yes, it will probably succeed to root, and if you successfully created a full backup, you can be restore it.

Can't install the new 5.1.1 OTA update

The update begins, the robot appears with the bar. The moment the bar begins to progress, my phone reboot back to 4.4.4 and tells me an error occurred. I have factory rreset and cleared cache but it still doesn't work.
What might be causing this?

I rooted with Kingroot, but recently uninstalled and removed my root access as it wasn't really benefitting me.

I don't think that cleaned it up from any traces of root.

As Giga says, you will still have traces of root on your phone. Flash a stock FTF first, then update.
