I'm struggling with really poor GPS signal. It either fails completely to find a GPS signal at the start or loses it mid way. I'm an avid strava user and I find it very difficult to find a GPS signal. I've just got back from a ride which I've ridden loads using my HTC one and strava, and the z2 lost signal for half the ride. I've tried runkeeper too which i has the same problem so I don't think its the app. Weirdly, Google maps can find me OK. I've reinstalled the apps many times and checked all my location settings.
Any ideas or is anyone having the same problem?

This is a 4.4.2 issue, not a sony issue
You will have to wait for sony to release android 4.4.4 or android 5.0
I seems to be a sort of base module kinda thing
It also seems to be partialy fixed in the 438 firmware

So is there no fix for this until I get an update?
I'm running 5.1 on my z2 and it does the same thing. The GPS in Google maps or Garmin will be working fine, then it just acts as though I've stayed in place, even though I'm still driving. Is there a patch or something I can flash that'll fix this (I am rooted with a locked bootloader)?
Try some apps on Google Play. I use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.silentlexx.gpslock

Yes, already enabled, other way ndrive or other apps say "enable GPS"
Me too on a sk17i (as signed) it could take up to five minutes to catch the signal but sometimes in the open, it's immediate. I think it's the GPS sensor which is not the best...

use fasterfix , if ur phone's rooted.
No rooted phone :-/ and no nearby plans to do it, another solution?
I have already tested the GPS with the ndrive and it works, but works really slow and with very bad accuracy :-S hope a software update fix this

Hello.
GPS problems on my sk17a too.
I use google navigation daily. I've had several Android devices, with varying degrees of success with GPS. Using navigation on the mini pro, I found at times the GPS sluggish to update my position and speed, hence my further investigations.
Using GPS test from market, I've observed the following:
Overall GPS signal strength is up to 10 DB below average signal strength on several simultaneous Android test devices, including nexus s, all set in airplane mode. GSM and wifi off, to prevent interference.
Then if you extend the physical keyboard on the mini, signals drop even more, dropping some sats along the way.
Poor GPS operation in my opinion as a subject matter expert in mobile communications and GPS.

I was out checking out marina's for my boat yesterday... I was actually surprised.... google maps didn't need ANY data connection at all (they all were in the same town) to accomplish this task, I even used "navigation" while doing this and never had to connect at all, seems like google maps/navigation must download all the maps for your area the first time you connect??
Anyway, I'm on the OTA honey comb and what I noticed is that the GPS would find my location, zero it in on the map and almost go to sleep? I was driving down the road and it'd find my location......the arrow would freeze then the gps ICON would start searching for a lock and it'd grab my location about 15 seconds later.
It did this over and over. Never being able to hold on to my location, just grabbing it, losing the lock and trying to find it again.
Does LeeDroid fix this problem?
Didn't fix it on mine... Of course, ymmv

My phone (htc Inc2 running mt4g rom) did this last week. I think it has more to do with the quality of the GPS signal. Try the rapid GPS lock fix posted in the flyer forums.

On all the HC ROMs, GPS works but not fully. It will pick up an initial fix , work for a about 30 seconds, then reset and may or may not fix again. Its fine if you just need to know current location, but not good if you try to use navigation.
No one has come up with a bug fix yet. The rapid fix helps, but may not fully solve your problem.
Yeah I had the same issue. Wonder if a third party navigation app might fix the issue

It may have been that the cached local map data was just not bumped out of memory yet, and you didn't travel outside that initially cached area. You can do this to some degree on any device with Google Maps, AFAIK. You just have to be careful not to open too many apps and whatnot.
yes, hc needs upgrades for gps, something in the system makes it crash after a minute. possibly an upcoming small ota from htc to fix this?
Hello,
This is nothing new - this device has GPS problems with custom firmwares. However, I wanted to share my experience and thoughts and clarify a thing or two. Tried different ROMs, radios etc. with no success to get stable GPS for daily use with latest ROMs. So I discovered that GPS on older ROMs works differently than on newer ones. For example:
On CM 7.2 - GPS Status&Toolbox gets green even with one sattelite (fix/sat - 1/1) - it can get fix to 10+ sattelites but will never get a lock no matter how much time I'm waiting on it.
On CM 6.1, B 0.8.4, and probably stock - GPS Status&Toolbox firstly discovers sattelites (yellow), it needs at least 4 or more sattelites (yellow) to get a fix. Once it gets a fix (for example 4/4) it changes to green color and gets immediate lock. This is also how it works on my Hero and usually is pretty fast.
So could this be a GPS driver/software problem in the ROM and why can't we get it to work on CM 7.2 the same way it's on 6.1?
I really want to be able to use newer, beautiful custom ROM like HomICS, AOPK, but since there is GPS problems on them I'm stuck on 6.1 or stock.
Cm 7.2 is one of the few roms were GPS actually works properly for me, I've written much about my GPS experiances in quite a few threads and some of my own threads, have a look around, they might be worth a read.

Yes, I did read some threads even yours and tried practically everything mentioned there but without any luck. I've got a few locks with CM 7.2 but it was couple of times when I first flashed it (mobile network was active (3g), however, I dont use it, ever) and the next day it would fix to 10/10 or more but without any lock.
Even today I got practically immediate locks with 6.1. in 10 to 20 seconds. Frustrating that this is not working the same way on 7.2.
How about you, in GPS Status&Toolbox, is your device fixing to satellites one by one (becoming green) without getting a lock? Or it needs couple of yellows before it gets a fix?

I have found that GPS status and toolbox doesn't fully work with the legend, mainly using the clear GPS data and for downloading a-gps data. I used quite a few different apps and basically pulled my hair out through shear frustration till I found something that seamed to actually work.
I use GPS test by Mike Lockwood from the market, this seams to work for clearing GPS data and download a-gps, but generally don't use it as my primary GPS app,I use AndroiTS GPS test free from Alessandro Bonetti also from the market, but for some reason is very hard to search for.
Personalty on my device these apps are the only 2 that give me constantly good results were all the other GPS apps I've tried didn't.

Yes, I did read your thread and tried these apps too. With AndroiTS I was getting elev azim data but no success in getting it to lock.
What about your lock time in daily use, seconds/minutes/ tens of minutes?
I use cm 7.2 (latest nightly) out in the open my lock time can be any where between a few seconds (maybe like 10 seconds) and a few minutes (2-3).

To make things a bit more complicated, after using GPS once, I have to restart the phone. Otherwise, it will not lock again. The first time it will lock in under 1 minute.

That's why I´m still using BlaY0´s ROM, I need GPS!
gpsfix works good for me!
Hi there,
i don't know if this question is device specific.
Android uses wifi networks to determine my location. It is fast and accurate enough for most cases. Thats why i turn off GPS completely, since it uses battery and is slow or not available in buildings.
Today i wasn't able to use this way to determine my location within foursquare app. I switched over to Google Maps and it showed my exact location with a very tiny blue point (perfect!). I then went back to foursquare app again and it still showed the last location where i disabled GPS. I went over to Whatsapp to make sure it's not foursquares fault, but the same issue.
I'm coming from Android 2.2 (Motorola Defy) so maybe i missed something. My assumption was that when Gmaps has my exact location (even via wifi) it provides it to all apps. Is there a setting/flag/whatever which prevents this?
I have no clue what is going wrong.
Update: The behaviour disappeared after i rebooted the device. It remains a fragile impression...
cheers, rokr
PS: I searched the web and this forum but didn't find a similar topic. Please point me to it.
It may be due to a glitch that only allows the app to display location data only when the location service is on, even WiFi is on at the same time

Issue:
GPS seems to be able to give me a fix on my location + directions.
GPS (on high accuracy mode) will not follow my car as it is moving to my destination at all. After it gets the initial location it says "GPS signal lost" constantly.
This makes the maps application for my phone practically useless.
Please help? I've read vague things about setting GPS in stock ROM making it work in other ROMs. I don't have a clue though.
OK we need a little bit of information.
Are you rooted,
Software version,
Customer rom?
Are you inside when you start it or in a car?
Have you downloaded, updated, any apps or your rom?
Rooted? Yes.
Software version? 5.1.1
Customer ROM? I'm using AICP, which is Cyanogen-based.
I'm inside my car when I try to use the GPS.
I keep all my apps up-to-date.
More in likely it is just signal issues. I have to have mine by my windshield or my sunroof open. Once it gets signal again, it works as I'm driving. Not sure why it is but this was when I was running kitkat. I'm on Lollipop now stock rooted so I'll give it a try next time I go for a quick drive to test it out. Give that a try or go for a walk and choose an address a couple of blocks down. Let me know how it goes.
still completely broken. no gps fixing app can get a signal or lock.
try doing this for many people has been useful
