Was wondering if I'm the only one having issues with the tablet mode...I've only had this phone about 4 days.
When I insert the phone into the docking station, its dead. No vibration or light. When the power is plugged in, it does work but after a few seconds the screen times out, and I have to remove and re-insert the phone to get it to go again.
It being such a new phone and it seeming like such a good deal to me, I'm a little scared of it now. Still got 10 days to change my mind...lol
Anyone with those sort of issues?
Do I not understand something about how it works? Does the docking station battery need to charge independently or something?
I thought maybe playing with different launchers and Dynamic Display settings messed it up, so I did factory reset and same result.

Occasionly there are quirks but is how mine normally works:
If the phone is on while I insert it, the pad boots up, usually within a couple seconds
If the phone is off while I insert it, the pad stays off.
Turning the phone on after it is inserted into the pad, using the pad's power button is where it can be confusing:
Push and hold the power button for about 4 seconds, you should feel a vibration, release the button, then after an additional 15-20 seconds the phone and pad boot up.
Turning the phone off while inserted in the pad, and using the pad's power button is very similar to using the phone's power button. You should get a dialog box with power down options.
The docking station battery does not have to be charged independently, but it is an option. Check out Settings--ASUS customized settings--Padfone Settings--Padfone Charging Policy for options. Intelligent Mode charges both at the same time and was what mine was defaulted to.
Since you re-set the phone I agree you probably didn't mess anything up.
battery wise, how does the phone intereact with a station battery less or that wears off when the phone is docked
does the phone battery take the relay to power the station or is a powerless station... powerless even with a full charged phone in it?

I am a bit confused with this too, but here is how I think the batteries and charging interact:
The station can charge the phone but the phone can not charge the station.
If the phone is not docked into the station, but the station is plugged into a charger, the station will charge.
If the phone docked into the station and the station is plugged into a charger, there are two options in settings:
1. Intellegent mode: The charger will charge both the phone and station at the same time.
2. Phone preferred mode: The charger will charge the phone 1st before charging the station.
If the phone is docked into the station and the station is not plugged into a charger, the station and phones batteries work independently unless:
1. The Power pack mode is selected.
The station's battery will charge the phone. The station turns off while charging the phone. You can turn the station back on by on by pressing the station's power button on for 2 seconds. The charging mode defaults to Inteligent mode when the power button is pressed or the phone becomes undocked.
Power Pack mode does have some issues however. I do not think the station charges the phone's battery while the station is on, even when in Power pack mode. This means you can not simultaneously charge the phone and view the station'screen. You have to use the 2 second press to access the screen. I can receive calls while in Power pack mode but I had to remove the phone from the station to answer it. The station takes too long to boot up. Texts come through while in Power pack mode but again I had to remove the phone from the station.
Basically this means that while in Power pack mode, you will need to remove the phone to answer calls and possibly texts. Also the phone will not charge if you are using the station. These are issues only in Power Pack mode. The other charging options do not appear to have these issues.
Thats the way I think charging works between the phone and station.

I think this is correct, and confusing . Lol. I thought the tablet station was dead until I turned on the settings to soul the percentage of battery left, and noticed there was two showing up.

Hello Zackzuse,
I am sorry to hear about the force closing issues you are experiencing. If the application is unresponsive or force closes while inserting the PadFone into the Station, please try to enable "Keep all applications alive". Open the setting application > Select "ASUS customized settings" > Select "PadFone Settings" > Select "Dynamic display switch list". Find the app which you want to enable Dynamic display and check the box > Slide the "Keep all applications alive" switch to the "ON" position.
For further assistance please feel free to email me at [email protected]. Be sure to place case # N140720670 and your username in the subject line for reference. I am here to assist with all of your ASUS needs.
Warm regards,

I very much appreciate the advice, Scott. I have recently reset my phone and started over and this is the first thing I will try if I run into this issue.

I have tried ,,,pressing the docket station Power On/Off for 5 to 10 sec ..still the Red light is always On and no display on station whatsoever..
But when i eject the padfone , its Ok and normaly working ....What to do ...Pls help

After sending the dock for RMA last week, I got it back in a different packing but the dock serial remains the same!
Did anyone get the same serial after the RMA and had a working keyboard?
upon inspection on the packing list regarding the dock, it appears the Part No. is different than the one listed on the box of the old dock.
But, of course the actual dock doesn't list any Part No. so it's basically impossible to tell if the dock is actually associated with this part no..
All we know is that the serial # is identical, but the Part No. is different, according to the old retail box and the RMA packing list.
Ok, need some help.
It appears that after ~12 hours of screen off, the Dock was completely drained of power.
Could this be caused by WiFi power management setting set to "Never Turn off When plugged in"?
However, I have Mobile Dock Power Saving Option turned on.
Does this drain mean the Dock is still broken...or never actually got replaced?
bump, help
My dock discharge is identical..both tab and dock at 100%, put them together and close it, make sure nothing is running, have the power save mode checked and dock will not wake on key press (i.e. Not one of the old docks that the firmware would not work with), still twelve hours later the dock is dead and tablet is now draining..i returned the last dock because it squealed (yep, audible noise) and it did not drain like this one..i had 48 hours off the charger with the previous dock before having to charge, and that was with full use, not just setting the thing on the table and doing nothing with it. I have contacted Asus because this is clearly not right, they have yet to reply but when they do i will let you know. My advice..RMA.

Does your TF go into deep sleep? If not, then it's running just as it would with the screen on. you need to set wifi disc policy to when screen is off (bottom choice).
for some reason my power button stopped working it will no longer wake up the device or power off also I am getting a gray battery indicator with a Exclamation
my wall charger had been getting extremely hot over the last week
could this be the end of my prime
please help
thanks
mike
The chargers are known to get extremely hot... try throwing it in a ziplock baggie (to prevent things from getting at it) and toss it in the freezer for a bit to cool it off. its got an internal temp sensor if it gets too hot it SHOULD shut itself off....
Battery indicator could mean its got a very low battery or you have other battery issues. If you can, see if someone else has a charger you can use. Find a local store that sells em, ask if they have a replacement charger you can borrow.
If the device is off try plugging it into a regular wall charger for like an iphone or ipod, it will take marginally longer to charge and only really charge it if its off but over the course of overnight you should get enough juice to know if the battery in the prime is taking a charge.
With power on the tablet, plug it into a computer to check if the cable is making a good connection to the prime.
Uhh.... when you plug in the prime there should be a charge indicator (on the power button) that shows its connected. Does it come on?
If you plug in the dock (supposing you have one and really, why wouldnt you?) there should be a charge indicator right near the female connector, when its plugged in do you see that light come on?
try charging the prime THROUGH the dock, does that work?
These are some troubleshooting tips i can come up with in, what, 5 minutes just off the top of my head? Let us know what you try and how well it works.
I've had my prime since day one and have not had any problems. So finally I buy the keyboard dock, charge it, and after using the Prime with the dock last night, I closed it, and set it on the counter. I get up this morning and opened the Prime, and it wont turn on. I push the power button, and it wont turn on. I detach from dock, and the Prime still wont turn on. So me thinking that the battery is dead, I hook it up to the charger, the green light on the power button comes on, I push it to turn on the Prime, and it still doesn't power up. It's been on the charger for the last hour and a half, and I periodically go over to turn it on, but am not successful. So now, what do I do? Who do I contact? You guys have any ideas?

I have also had this where the prime will not power up until I remove the charger from the dock and put it directly into the prime. It then powered up first time and was fully charged.
I have only ever had this happen once tho.
Try placing charger directly into prime and hold power button down for 10 seconds if this fails.
Cold boot and placing on charger did not fix the problem. So, I let it charge for 2 hours, and tried that. I didn't help. I than proceeded to cold boot again, holding - volume and power button down. The prime proceeded to boot back up. Very odd problem. But nevertheless, it's back to being operational. Weird thing is, that it showed the Prime as being 100% charged. When I closed it last night, I had 83%. I don't think in the 8 hours it could've drained the Prime completely causing the problem seeing as how it was connected to the dock. Thanks for the info guys!
It probably didn't sometimes the prime doesn't turn on right away and I have to hold the power button for like 10-20 seconds, once it vibrates you know it's turning on. Also I remove from charger or dock if this happens.
so i had a not so nice scare last night. :crying:
TLDR:
when i attach magnetic charger, i now get blinking orange light and i get the charging (lightning) icon in top status bar also blinking also showing up and then disappearing.
I can apparently charge my phone via micro usb port directly but this morning phone alarm didn't go off and i couldn't get the phone to wake without powering off via red button and powering on again.
- How bad is this? (i.e. is it corrupt software? is hardware borked?)
- What can i do to determine cause (is there any kind of log file i can look at? etc)
I've been using a knock off magnetic charger adapter (one end is micro usb female, other end is magnetic charger port for Z2) since end august. pretty much every night i use this thing to charge my phone.
here is the item on ebay
Last night, as i was about to sleep, i connected my knock off magnetic charger thingy to my phone. i think i may have connected it upside down but then i fixed it.
I then left it for a bit then came back to check something on my phone and could not get the thing to wake up.
i tried to use the power button to wake phone to no avail.
I remove the magnetic charger clip thing and tried to power off phone using red button next to sim tray. no dice.
I tried plugging power into the micro usb directly and got a red light. At this point i start freaking out.
I start hunting through XDA and all signs point to potential soft brick.
So I try putting my phone into flashmode. I tried a bunch of things as recommended and somehow got my phone to wake again, but it got stuck in a boot loop at sony logo.
I use the red button to power off the device, wait for a bit and then power it back on.
luckily it boots into ROM and my phone looks as it should. I attempt magnetic charger but I get blinking orange led and the charging (lightning) icon in top status bar also blinking. I decide to try pluging the microusb directly into port on phone and it appears to be charging.
I decide to go to sleep.
In the morning my phone alarm didn't go off and i couldn't get the phone to wake without powering off via red button and powering on again.
All day today the phone was fine, but going to sleep now i'm going to charge direct via microusb and wondering what its going to be like in the morn.

thanks in advance
If the device powers off due to the charger then stop using it because it will damage your device and void your warrenty

@envious: yea thats the thing. I'm not using the magnetic charger anymore.
i'm plugging into micro usb port.
this morning it was still normal at 8:15 (could wake it, unlock all things good, battery fully charged).
I have an alarm that goes off at 8:25.
I went back to sleep.
alarm did not go off. I woke up at 9 and my fone could not be woken. it was not off because if i hit power button it would vibrate, but i had to hard power off with red button and turn on again for it to be normal.
anybody seen this behaviour before?
well jsut a quick follow up. i uninstalled my alarm app and reinstalled it and now i no longer have any issue when charging via usb port.
still don't know if magnetic charger is completely eff-ed tho.
My PadFone mini 4.3's station has issues charging. Basically the station will act normally, then it will not show a light for charging for a couple of days but still accept a charge. During this time period it will allow me to plug the phone in/use the station but it will not charge the phone (with it in the station) if plugged in to the power cord. Also no sound in this configuration.
Eventually it will not charge at all and will run the station out of power. After about a week or two it usually starts working again and then repeats. I can unplug the battery in the station and it will also start the process again. No issues with the phone and it charges normally on its own. Have tried hard, soft and factory resets with no no change. Sent it to Asus but they took 4 months and wanted $150 just for parts plus additional for $ the labor, however they couldn't tell me what was wrong or what parts they even needed. Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
