In my humble opinion, this is too much gheto style cover, and mod, for a stylish device like this.

yes i agree but I'd rather have it protected and still be able to charge it. in the dock.
I've got the official cover aswell but can't stick it in the dock to charge it and it's a bit cumbersome.
this one fits perfectly without adding to much bulk..

You can use the official cover with the dock, but only if the cover is open

Sony Case vs Others
Yes the cheap case shown above will do the trick as far as protection/ magnetic charging.
HOWEVER, that being said, think about how much you invested in the tablet. I have used the cheap knock off version case and now I have the Sony case. Big difference in protection, feel, its still super thin and quality. In my opinion, invest in a good case to protect that high class tablet you have.
You can get the authentic sony case through Ebay (Sony store) for cheaper than the website. Fast shipping and reasonable for a tablet case cost. Remember that tablet cases will cost more than phone cases too...if you go for quality!:good:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IXDPJUC/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I bought these two for my Z2 tablet, one on Ebay and the other from Amazon. Both are relatively inexpensive. I had to enlarge the magnetic charging port openings on both, but now they work with my magnetic charger and my dock.

Yep I'm happy with mine works perfectly, good to see someone else do the same...the first one looks similar to mine..

Ordered mine, looking for accessory sugguestions...

Ok so I took the plunge and ordered a "G" to replace my iPad... I know I'll be needing a SD card (obviously) and am wondering what brand and class the majority of you use. I'll be using mine for storing videos and music... possibly running a few apps off too. Anyone have any really cool cases they have found and would like to suggest? Any tips and or links would be greatly appreciated.

These are all great. A few alternates:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004JF9N1O/ref=oss_product - Same case with keyboard listed above, for about the same price, but through amazon. Also ships incredibly quickly (I got mine in 2 days from the date of purchase).
http://www.gotshadeonline.com/products-page/tablets/viewsonic-g-tablet/ - A much cheaper version of the carbon fiber vinyl back covers from Skinomi...also, made by an XDA member!
I would recommend going to a craft store and getting a dish stand. I got a wooden one that folds and it workz great for holding the tablet. Plus it under 9 dollars
Great list, I appreciate it... have any of you used that keyboard case? How is it on the battery? I would think that it would really shorten its life, but then again I know bluetoon really hits the iPads and my current android phone too. So maybe this would be better. What are your thoughts?

I have everything on the list I provided except for the Malata case. This usb keyboard case does the job. When you get it you may have to move the left tab down or remove it completely as it may block access to the usb port on your gTab. Some users have said that if you tell the seller you need the one for the gTab they may send you a case that already has the left tab moved down.
With that said, these cases shouts "CHEAP". It is made of shiny plastic pleather. The keyboard is also not coated with silicone so it can rub against the screen of your gTab and damage it. Finally, the case doesn't feel secure. It feels like the tablet is moving around a lot. Some users have added velcro to their gTabs and the case to hold it more securely. It does come in handy when you need to type a lot. It doesn't seem to draw the battery much at all.
As for wireless keyboards, some users have had success with wireless bluetooth and usb keyboards especially the ones that use a dongle plugged into the usb port.

Official Sony Case for Tablet S

This morning I took delivery of Sony's genuine leather case for the Tablet S and I wanted to share my impressions of it. I have previously brought 2 cases for my tablet from Ebay.
The first I did not like as it had a wraparound clip which kept getting in the way each time I opened the case (stopping you from laying the tablet flat). The second was ok. Fake leather but the tablet fitted into it in such a way that it framed the screen which made swiping difficult (try opening dolphin browser favourites if you cannot get to the far side of the screen!)
The Official Sony case retails in the UK for £70. There was no way I wold pay that for a case but I found an exporter in Japan selling it for £20.
It arrived this morning in a Sony box and is the genuine article. But what a disappointment!
Firstly, it is (IMO) fiddly to fit the tablet into the case, requiring (supplied) velcro and adhesive pads. This will make removing the tablet from the case so it can go in and out of a cradle dock difficult.
Secondly, the front flap of the case is designed to fit snugly but takes away the opportunity to have an inbuilt magnetic catch that will keep the case shut. If you pick up the tablet the wrong way, the flap of the case just falls open.
Thirdly (and this really annoys me) you cannot plug the tablet charger into the tablet and then close the case. You have to leave the case open.
The case looks nice enough, particularly when it is closed the flap fitted snugly and with the Sony logo embossed on the front. But it is a bad design. If I had paid £70 for this I would be very unhappy indeed.
Others might think differently and we are all entitled to an opinion. I thought I would share mine in case anyone is thinking of ordering one at the vastly inflated Sony price.

Sony do make some beautiful equipment, i have a house full of their stuff, but, when it comes to 'extras' they charge the earth, which I feel is totaly unfair of them.
No car charger for the Sony S tablet, the mains charger is £29+, I also have a Sony TV, that has internet facility, but, the Sony dongle for it is £70, whereas, the 'normal' dongle price is nearer £12, and no, you can't use a standard one, it dosen't work, Sony have made that impossibel, by, having written some software in their dongle, that has to be read before it works on the Sony equipment it's connected to, i.e. my Sony TV!!
And, various other (Sony) bits, that only work with the dedicated Sony 'extra', ......... Sony is pretty expensive stuff anyway, and, I like their gear very much, but, it puts you off a bit, knowing you'll be ripped of when you want that accessory!
My opinion of course ....................

A case with the charging dock connection cut out?

Just got my ultra today. I also got 2 cases delivered. Both of these cases neither one of them has a cutout for the charging dock ports. i have the dock and obviously want to use a case that i can use on the dock.
can anyone recommend a hard or tpu type case that will meet my needs? no idea why these cases wouldn't have the proper cutouts
I've just bought an Incipio Watson case which also doesn't have a cut-out for the magnetic connector.
I plan to spend two minutes this evening with a craft knife fixing the problem!

You could try the Nillkin fresh series. I didn't really like the plastic back but what i like is the screen cover and that it has a cutout for the magnetic charging port.
Unfortunately, just because a case has the cutout, doesn't mean it works. this is the one I've got and while it fits in the DK30 dock (with the bigger inlay), the problem is that the dock has the phone sitting at an angle and I can't get the magnet to "grip".
I tried my best modding the thing to fit, didn't work out. So good luck with yours, please report back if you've been lucky enough to find something that works.
I also use the magnetic charging port for charging. I found the following TPU case. I purchased one in smoke, and liked it so much I then purchased another one in black. Works great. Highly recommended!
The item is: Black Matte TPU Silicone Gel Case Cover For Sony Xperia Z Ultra XL39h C6802 on eBay

Thanks for the info on the case, I have the same case that I bought more by luck than judgement when I bought my Z ultra.
Please could you let us know if the case works with:
A.) The official magnetic dock
B.) A magnetic charging cable
C.) Both of the above
Cheers,
Rob
Rob, this case works with the charging cable. I'm not sure if it works with the charging dock as I don't own one. I hope this is (somewhat) helpful.
Good luck,
Josh
Thanks Josh, I'm going to order a cable for my shiny new toy
Cheers,
Rob
After dropping my beautiful phone and getting the corner peeled I decided to look for this exact combo; a case with a charging dock connection cut out that works with a magnetic cable. As you guys already know the charging port flap becomes pretty flimsy after a while and I did not want to risk it breaking.
After much trial and error I found a combination that works.
This cable:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Magn...agnetic-USB-cable-charger-for/1708094470.html
Works perfectly with this case:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NILLKIN-Ult...Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&var=&hash=item1e945842a2
The Nillkin case itself is pretty good but I'm also pretty sure that this cable will work with other cases that have a similar cutout. The magnetic connection from the cable is not that strong but gets the job done.
Thanks for post a working combo

Dock-friendly covers/cases/bumpers

Hi there,
Would like to find out if anyone has tried and proven good covers/cases/bumpers that are dock-friendly?
Thought this would be a good place to start and share.

I have the Case-Mate Barely There and I can confirm that IT DOES NOT fit with the official Sony magnetic dock using either 45A or 45B inserts. I haven't found a single case that does fit as yet... and charging without using an insert isn't ideal as the slightly knock causes the connection to be lost....

although, just to argue with myself, I've contacted Case-mate and they state that it should fit the magnetic dock. So either I'm being really thick, or my inserts for the DK48 aren't correct, or both......I'm going to recheck tonight!

The DK36 works with the Case Mate Barely there and the wider of the two inserts included in the packaging. It was about $20 on Amazon. It charges pretty quickly as well.

It will fit with 45B insert, unless you have glass screen protector on. The glass will cause 45B to be not fit.

This definitely isn't the case for mine - doesn't fit and I don't have a glass screen protector. However, I've found that it does fit with one of the inserts for the Z3 Compact - 35B, I think it's called - I'd always assumed this insert would be smaller so stupidly hadn't tried it, but perhaps the Z3 Compact is slightly fatter.
I'm not sure whether my case, or the dock is at fault here....
cheers

I know this isn't the answer to your question, exactly.. but... I went and looked at the dimensions of the Z3/Z2 and their respective docks and the extra thickness of the Z2 means its dock is just a tiny bit deeper... so I bought one and it accommodates a Z3 with a snap-on shell case *so* much better than the Z3 dock, even with the adapter. The TPU cases still don't fit without struggling to get it in and out though. The Z2 dock is also around half the price (or less).

Case-M,ate Barely There and Nillkin ultra thin case review.

Hey guys,
I know many are after a decent case for the Z3 and I have these 2 which I've covered in a review I posted up recently on Neowin: http://www.neowin.net/news/case-mate-barely-there-for-xperia-z3-review
Hopefully the info helps make up a decision for some of you!
Thank you for thevreview, I have just ordered one of these cases.
Appreciate the review!
Thanks for doing this review, I was kinda concerned if the case-mate barely there for the Xperia Z3 would be compatible with the official dock.
I'll be getting this case but the clear version, as I got the Xperia Z3 in mint silver on 02 and it looks so nice!
I want the clear version too just to be able to see the shiny rear glass

I noticed a commenter on the review mentioned how much he disliked cases without symmetry...I feel like I might be the same way, but I'm not sure and would really like a case that could work with the dock. So do you feel like it's not really a big deal? Still comfortable to hold on to? Should I just get over it and get the case? Haha

Aye I really don't think it's a big deal. It's slim enough and it's black so doesn't really stand out as a distraction.
I bought a charging dock, and the case, and they should both be here by Tuesday.
I received the Nillkin today and unfortunately the Magnector X charging cable does not fit. I managed to trim a little bit on the sides though and now it works! Good to know before you order

I actually prefer without the case! Phone feels amazing metal and glass but a case just takes away that feel
I'll just be careful
I like to feel the glass back as well and didn't want to put a case. I am using a bumper to cover the sides to offer some grip

No, not the cable of course! I trimmed a little bit of the case where the lower part of the magnetic connector touches. You will see it when you receive both the case and the case.
Can anyone verify that the MagnectorX magnetic cable will fit alright with the Case Mate? I just ordered it up as it doesn't fit with my current case. It looks like it will be good to go, but just want to be sure.
It's all open side that end on the Barely There so yeah shouldn't be a problem.
The MagnectorX connector adapter will fit with the Case Mate Barely There, but it is not a completely secure connection. It will charge fine, but moving the phone while it is connected could dislodge it. The angle of the connector is very steep and leaves the cord very close to the case. On this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/accessories/magtrons-magnector-x202-cable-adapter-t2919541 it appears that the Magnector cable has more clearance. From those pics, it will fit with the case with trouble. The Barely There case works fine with the Z2 dock DK36, however. I purchased that dock since the price was lower than the dock for the Z3.
I also have a Sony XSP-N1BT receiver in my car (basically a dock which turns the phone into the face plate of the receiver and it has the magnetic pins to charge the Xperia phones) and with a little bit of fiddling, the phone will charge with the Barely There.
like the barely there case because of its slim design. but still would prefer a case that covers all the edge as well. maybe the casemate slim tough will be more suitable?
Since barely there is hard plastic, will it cause scratches to the phone eventually?
is The clear's finish is it the same as the black?
