[Q] Android can't move app to SD problem - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a rooted LG G Pro Lite Dual with stock ROM.
The first reason I rooted my android is to move apps to SD. But on my device, i can't!
I used Link2SD+ to move the apps, but not even one app moved. App moving action is always came with a message, it says:
FAILURE
App2SD is not supported by your device. Because your device has a primary external storage which is emulated from the internal storage.
It also said - Second partition not found -
Please, help me :crying:

[Q] oxygen 2.3.7 - strange app to SD-card behaviour

Hello, I put update-oxygen-2.3.2-LGP500-KANG-signed_v2.8.zip on my LG P500... I tested it for some minutes, but then struggled when viewing the app-information:
After I installed e.g. Titanium-Backup from google play, it was a) under the apps on SD-card (?!?), but b) offered me to move to SD-card ?!?)... strange strange... when I choose move to SD-Card and then move to Phone... it is still listed under the apps on SD-card...
Background info: prior to oxygen I had the original LG 2.3.3 version with an SD-card on it that has no 'specific' partitions... it is one single ordinary FAT32 partition...
Has this strange SD-card behaviour something to do with the partitioning of the SD-card? Is app to SD not working anymore like it did with LG Android 2.3.3?

I put my question here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32367994#post32367994

[Q] LG Optimus L5, external SD card can/can't be seen on different occasions

Hello World,
I've got a question concerning the external 8gb sdcard on my phone,
the phone is rooted, has bootloader and cwm 6, the rom is stock btw
My phone can put/place some things to the sd but some don't,
for example,
- Camera saves some of the pics to it,
- My PC sees it when I connect the phone and I can put apps/music etc to it
but,
- I can't use the app2sd built into android assistant (or any other app2sd apps) to move the apps to the sd, they just won't see the sd,
- CWM wont backup to it,
No /sdcard/.android_secure found. Skipping backup of applications on external storage

I've searched the forum, but I can't actually find the right solution for this?
I'm new to all of this, and I want to learn. I've found some advices to similar problems and that the solution is to partition the sd, is that the catch or maybe something else?
Thank you in advance, newbie.
Edit
A new example of not seeing the sd in recovery,
I wanted to flash the "Sony Album" via the Pimp my Rom app, it downloaded the app successfully, it asked for clearing of the dalvik cache, I approved it,
phone rebooted and went into recovery, and then the recovery said that the file doesnt exist (something like that).
Edit
I've tried formatting the sd with fat32, no changes whatsoever :S
apps to sd
how to move apps to external sd card in lg optimus l5 e612. i had rooted the device and still it shows this device does not support apps to sd.

[Q] Those App2SD apps won't work on my Samsung Galaxy Victory (Android 4.1.2). How...

...do I force the apps to move to the SD card anyhow (and still have them work as before?)
I also would like a list of apps recommended not to move so I don't move them by mistake.
Having only 1.83GB available is getting on my nerves and I'm not getting used to it.
My last phone - Sony Ericsson Xperia Play had allowed moving to SD card so I wish all other Android phones would too.
So how do I disable whatever barrier prevents app-moving, and finally get them moving to my SD card?
I already rooted the phone, and TWRP doesn't allow me to select the tickbox to "Mount SD Card." I already partitioned it to get it ready to mount.
if u force to sd, app should work well except some widgets...Install Rom tool box, there u get an option where to install app Internal/sd/auto...

[Q] Move App to SD - Completed all steps with no results

I'm not by any meaning a technology, software, programming expert, please forgive my beginner language.
I have the LG P769 20h
I have rooted my phone
I have partitioned my SD card
I have installed Link2SD and App2SD
I receive an error message when I try to move apps to my SD card using Link2SD "App2SD is not supported by your device. Because your device has primary external storage which is emulated from the internal storage. You can link the app in order to move its files to your SD card"
I have successfully "linked" apps to my SD card but that hasn't created any additional storage space. I still can't download apps due to insufficient storage.
Please help!! I'm reaching the end of my sanity in trying to figure this out! I'm about to just go buy a new phone, but this one isn't even a year old yet!
Also, please respond in layman's terms, since i'm not a guru in this arena.
THANK YOU!!!

Hi ZanyAL711
You've pretty much done the proper steps to try and get apps to work. The reason that it's not working is that the phone, android version (not supported after 4.0+), most of the downloaded user apps and device system apps, just really doesn't support this feature.
The L9 has only 4gb total memory, which most of that is used by the "/system" partition and leaves a very limited user usable internal memory on the "/data" partition of something only like 1.6gb to 1.8gb of user stirage. Which barely leaves any room for the user to store user apps and or data on the device.
To kind of break it down to you in simple terms...
As i mention above, in android there are 2 main partitions on the devices internal memory:
The "/system" partition - This is where the OS, system apps, etc... are stored. No user data is stored on this partition.
The "/data" partition - This is where all of the user data is stored on the device.
Inside the "/data"partition you have -
"/data/apps"
"/data/data"
"/data/apps" Is where Downloaded user apps are stored and intalled to.
"/data/data" This is where the user "System settings", things that you have changed on the device (ringtones, wallpaper etc) are stored.
Also there are a several other minor partitions on the device but these really have no use to the topic at hand.
Both of these main partitions "/system" and "/data" are on the internal nand flash memory or eMMC (Embedded MultiMedia Card)
The whole data partition is used for user apps and system data only. Which leaves no where for music, movies, photos, documents etc. to be stored on the device.
This is where the external SD card comes into play and allows you to store music, movies, docs etc. off of the devices internal memory. The problem here is that, eben though the L9 has an external/removable SD card, it also has a small internal nand flash memory and it doesn't allow for much user data to be stored in the device and is causing the problem that you have, which is really the phone's lack of internal memory.
So there's not very many more options for you to try other than maybe the following.
You could try the method where you edit the build prop and run a script that allows you to add the feature to move apps to the SD card in "settings/apps/" menu
This can allow you to move some apps to the SD card. Again thought it's not a solution to the problem, but might help.

Another option and probably the best one... Would be to install kuma82's stock modified ROM/backup. It's not custom ROM... It's slightly modified stock ROM and has extra apps, features and it's themed. Looks great too, way better than the complete stock ROM look. It also has an internal/external memory swapt script. You can read about it in the 2nd post of the ROM thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2468880
It's a simple process, doesn't require the bootloader to be unlocked and kuma has directions for what you need and how to install it, in the 2nd post.
I personally have kuma's ROM running on my wife's L9 and no way would I go back to 100% stock ROM after running his.
Anyway hope this helps!

App Manager does noy have option Android 4.4.2 kitkat (plz read)

I have a MTK 6572 based smart phone with android 4.4.2 installed as stockrom.
The problem is that i don't have an option in App Manager to move my apps to Sdcard.
Instead of having "move to sdcard" option i have "move to "phone storage" option.
Basically there are two option in my App Manager
1. Move to Internal Storage
2. Move to Phone Storage
If an app is installed in Internal storage then the option 2 is present there and i can move to phone storage
And if i installed app on phone storage then option 1 becomes available.
The problem is that even i insert sdcard still i have the same two options in App Manager and no MovetoSdcard option.
And secondly my Phonestorage is mounted as Sdcard0 and External Sdcard as Sdcard1 whenever inserted.
So apps can only be installed to Phone Storage as External Sdcard does not swaps as Sdcard0.
And there was write restriction on Sdcard which i fixed editing Platform.xml file which was the only success but still
move to Sdcard is not there.
I have tried XinternalSd to swap phonestorage with external storage but still it didn't work.
I am attaching pictures to make my point clear.
Plz help.
Your issue is that the os doesn't support apps to sdcard. One of the issues is I'm betting it's a hacked together version of Android as most of those devices use them.
So it means there is no solution to it?
Pretty much yes. Without ripping the whole OS apart and without kernel source there is nothing that can even be looked at
I have backed up my rom using mtk tools
Now what can i look for fixing?
You ha e to rip the whole OS apart and make changes to the kernel. But I am betting you won't find the source for it as they are known for violating the GPL laws
So i think then i should leave it as it is
And buy a new fone after saving money
Thanks for the help.
