Allow me to quote egzthunder1 which described very well the application's scope in Android applications area.
If you are as clueless as I am about this whole concept, the first thing that you may have thought is: “there is a typo in the article’s title”. As it turns out, this is an outdoor activity where people will determine a path to follow and will try to make it in the least possible amount of time. This can be done either walking, by bicycle, or car, a good sense of orientation, a map, and a good compass.

The Android client is in beta testing but the Windows Mobile 6.5 client is stable and can be downloaded from http://vorienteering.com/downloads
Virtual Orienteering is formed by a team of passionate developers, lovers of nature and surrounding environment.
Together we try to create a large community of curious beginners in discovering the joy of this game, as well experienced players of real orienteering sports.
Everything we offer is free, all you need to do is register (very easy to do) on www.vorienteering.com make a track, download the application for your smartphone and start executing it. After that, if you want you can post a message straight to Twitter of Facebook so that everybody will know what you did The best players will be on top so everyone can see them.
Video tutorials on how to use the site and the application are coming in the next days, but it should be pretty easy to use it. Just give it a try. We also have a feedback button and you can tell us what problems or ideas you have. Every feedback is welcomed. Together we can improve the whole concept.
This community has done so much for me since I join, I'm glad that with VOrienteering we can offer you something in return.
Thank you xda-developers for the chance of showing out application.
Ah... did I mention that you can earn badges ? See you in top 10 users.
So, probably asked hundreds of times before, I already searched for it and know some candidates, but since the oppinions I have found could be outdated, I'll ask again:
I want to jump to game development as a hobbie. I already have a job programming, and know C++ and Java very well (not a guru...yet! ). But when I search for game engines there are SO many to choose from.
I'd like to pick one which:
has a big community of users (for example, PlayN looks nice, but I think lacks of this. just try to google "PlayN push notifications" and nothing will appear)
is free (since it's just a hobby)
and would be nice (not mandatory) if it was possible to port to other non-Android devices (iOS, Windows8...). AndEngine looks great, but it is only for Android, and I don't know if Cocos2Dx is reliable.
extra points if the engine includes multiplayer capabilities or push notifications. I have not found information about this for PlayN, AndEngine or Cocos2Dx, so I guess they don't have these features and aim only for graphics. Moai looks promising here, but I don't want to learn to use it and then discover than the free edition is too limited.
So, I'd love to hear oppinions from game developers around here: please tell me your experiences.
BTW, I'd love to create a Civilization-like game, that's why I'm interested in push notifications and multiplayer. But I'll start with a card game, because I'm just not that mad (yet).
PS: After reading forum rules, I guess this question goes here, in Q&A, but feel free to move it to Android Game development subforum if you think it is misplaced.
I don't know about push notifications, but I think you'll have to code the multiplayer part yourself using sockets because multiplayer is different from game to game.
there is already a thread created on teaching how to create android games. here is the link

Like the idea so far!!! i had something like this on Windows Mobile....I used to use it to text and view my phone without having to pick it up.
Question: Do you have to have the full version in order to text? That's what I wanted to try before I make a purchase.
Can you add "Background task" so i can have this on while doing other tasks on my phone?
Thanks.

Just left a few suggestions (under nick "SeNS") on your voting site.
BTW, nice work (bought a paid version)! I especially like a web page design
P.S. I do have a question to you: could you help with web-page design for the open source project(s)? And did you offer some commercial services for the custom web page design (I need a simple "Metro-style" informational home page)?

Dear barrychon,
Thank you for your useful feedback.
Actually the trial version is a quite similar to the full version with limitation with number of photos and contacts, please try the trial before purchasing.
Regarding the text from PC, yes you can send text messages, emails, make phone calls from PC using GoToMyPhone, however, you have to confirm the action from your phone, this is a security concern from Microsoft API.
Regarding the background task, even if the application works in background you can't reach it via socket, the background apps run every amount of time, API does not allow Background apps as service.
Please vote for existing ideas or create your own idea on: http://gotomyphone.uservoice.com/forums/227942-general

Dear SeNS,
I really appreciate your voice on my feedback page, I will try my best to review and include some features if feasible with current API.
Concerning your requests, I may be able to help with open source projects, please check my page on codeplex: http://www.codeplex.com/site/users/view/fakoua
Review my current projects and invite me to your projects or just mail me [email protected].
Concerning commercial services, I really appreciate your offer, but I'm busy with too many projects including GoToMyPhone and MetroAirServer (light IIS over WP8), I can't provide commercial services.
For your metro-style page, you may check the open source section in GoToMyPhone about page, and please refer to: http://aozora.github.io/bootmetro/ a modified theme for Bootstrap (twitter bootstrap) it may help with your design.
Please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Thanks for the quick reply; I'm really appreciate your attention!
Please, check my codeplex profile: https://www.codeplex.com/site/users/view/SeNS
Probably, I'll ask you soon about design of the simple configuration web-page for my new, upcoming project "X10 home server" (not released yet). There is nothing special; just a few controls and input boxes but I really want it elegant and stylish as your configuration pages for the "GoToMyPhone" app

Please read the XDA forum rules regarding posting apps, and make sure you're in compliance with them. The key component is that you're not allowed to use this board as advertising for a paid app, although you're welcome to provide a way to get it for free here and then link to a paid version (not a paid *upgrade*; that's not the same thing) as a sort of "feel free to donate by buying the app from the store" kind of thing.
I haven't tried the app yet, so I don't know how severe the trial restrictions are (something you should be specific about, by the way) but I'm tired of seeing links to paid third-party apps in the forum. Time was, this board was for finding beta testers and publishing links that anybody could use (often to the XAP files themselves; this is a developer community and most of us probably have dev-unlocked phones).
Sorry

Dear GoodDayToDie
I'm so sorry if I didn't follow the forum rules, I know it is not an excuse, but I found a lots of free trial apps with commercial edition, and that's why I created this thread, and as I said, It is not an excuse.
Please feel free to take any action regarding this post if you think it is not following the rules.
Thanks
Eh, I'm not a moderator or anything, I just want to make sure they don't have to get involved. Some of the apps, where the trial is "get the app for free, and if you want to donate/thank us, buy it!", are not a problem at all; it's mostly a matter of making sure people can get the app for free if you want to post it here. There's nothing wrong with asking for donations or anything, it's just not OK to advertise commercial stuff unless it's related to the site.
I would also like them to have lan mulitplayer and prefferably not full of ads and IAPs. IAPs are ok if they're not intrusive into the gameplay, the same goes for ads.
Online multiplayer is optional.
They should also work with Marshmallow. You don't need to test them as I may, but it's nice to know ahead of time.
I would like to keep the size under 500mb if possible.
Also please no *camping fps* aka cover based fps as I like being able to roam freely.
More and more games these days are getting to become a money drain and I don't like that (I don't have money to spend) . They're also requiring internet to even just play, which is bad as I don't have unlimited internet everywhere (even at home). Also many are just huge at over 500mb.
Thanks guys in advanced for listing games here! I will try to add your contributions to my list as well.
I have been able to find a ton of racing games that work offline and are small. They're listed below.
Now off with the list!
FREE
Special Forces Group
Special Forces Group 2
Neon Shadow
Gloomy Dungeons
Gloomy Dungeons 2
Flats
LWP Lan Multiplayer FPS
PAID
Hot Trigger
Critical Missions Swat
Critical Missions Space
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Nova 3 Freedom Edition
Modern Combat 3
Modern Combat 4
Please read XDA rules. No asking for warez, paid apps etc
Mod, please close thread.

I'm not asking for warez, just a list of apps. You are welcome to contribute though.
I know there's guides to cloning apk files but is it possible to:
1. Clone a server sided game
2. Edit the clone to play offline only
3. Alter the stuff inside the cloned game
Kinda like a sandbox mode that doesn't affect hacking the actual game itself.
I just want to play offline with all characters and equipment and save all the files for my personal use in case, like most games eventually, are discontinued and no longer playable.

Hi,
First let me answer your question: it isn't possible, because the "integrity check" is done server-side (to avoid licence emulations and stuff like that).
And what you're asking for is forbidden here, you're asking for what's called a warez (a hacked version of a software).
See XDA's rules : https://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?a=81
And I know how frustrating it is when a game is gone just because the company shuts down their servers, it's really infuriating, but still, we aren't allowed to provide help with hacking and warez.
Have a good day

Is there at least a way to decompile and save the "spirtes" and animations (or anything in the game) for a personal archive before game is gone forever?
