[Q] Z2 and USB OTG - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to be able record at 120fps straight onto an external drive, but I note when you plug a drive in the phone doesn't give s option.
is there anyway round that?

I don't think it will be possible with Sony camera app. To tell you the truth its first time I hear about recording straight onto OTG device. All I can think of is to somehow deceive camera app that OTG storage is an sdcard. Some link for example.

I don't think it's possible, but then again, is there any need when you can use a high speed sd card?

yes there is a need, that's why I asked.
annoying the xperia cant do it when the htc m8 can

Try a third party camera app? not sure if any can do it but just the first thing that came to mind.

May I ask why an sd card won't suffice?

cos I want to record for a long period at 120fps and you don't get much footage on a 64gb card

yeah I want 1tb

well you could use Foldermount if you are rooted and redirect the DCIM folder to your OTG hard drive

that's the sort of advice I was after.
to be a pain and needy got any more info on rooting and re directing dcim??

Rooting guide (as always at your own risk): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784900
Foldermount: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192122 which basically lets you symlink any folder anywhere.
Hope that helps!

excellent many thanks, I will have a read of that during the world cup final later
(not opened either link) is there no way of adding the external drive to the camera settings? you have the option of internal and SD cant we add another option for external?

Nope, no option for that. You'll have to do it the hard way!
Edit: An alternative would be to use another camera app, like ABC, which lets you save to a custom folder.

but does the app let you record at 120fps?

I cant even find abc, is it just called abc?
I get everything but a camera app

My bad. ABC stands for A Better Camera and you can get it from here. I don't really know if it's able to record on 720p 120FPS but you can try it and see what happens

it does everything under the sun except record at 120fps

[Q] Move photos and videos to SD card?

I have had my Atrix since Feb and I just got a 16gb Class 10 Micro SD card for it.
Can I get some help on a easy way to move over all my pictures and videos and then make that the default location for new ones to go.
Cheers,
Chris

So if I do that and then go back and open "gallery" will all the photos and videos still be there? I'm thinking not because you haven't told the phone the new location. so yeah I guess I could drag and drop them anywhere but I will need to know how to find them after the fact.

I dont know for certain if it will show up in the Gallery, but I imagine it would. Either way, if you just go to Files you can select SD Card, then navigate your folders just like you would on the internal one.

it will find them, it did for me, and when I first used the camera after putting in the new sd card it asked if i wantd to move the camera save location there. it was painless really.

[Q] losing pictures

OK so I took some pictures and when I rebooted my phone the next day half of them was blank in my gallery anyone know what's up with that.
Have you actually mounted to a pc and looked on the SD? Are you stock or rom'd? Have you used any 3rd party file managers like Astro to check the contents of the card?

Yes my PC says the pictures are corrupt or damaged. I'm and running the latest CM7 with NO Nightly's and yes I used root explorer and they are there but NOT viewable. It happened again tonight they were there and when I connected to my PC 6 out 12 became damaged or corrupt well at least that's what my PC says and then when I disconnect from my PC the pics. are blank in my gallery

SD card is prolly on the fritz. Or your ROM has read write speeds to high. And if u want to be sure the data is really corrupt put the SD card into the comp with a SD reader if possible not pass thru the phone.

Until you fix the problem you might want to try Photobucket and set it to automatically upload your photos that way you at least dont lose the pictures?..

Downloading photos issue

Sooooo... I just discovered that this stoooopid-ass phone of mine is storing downloaded photos to the phone's internal storage instead of the SD card. Is there anyway to fix this? I don't even think it's possible to move those photos from the phone to the SD card since my laptop can't even find the phone's internal photo storage folder. Seriously? WTF?!?!

Please read the stickies and search before starting pointless threads. All of your issues are because you don't know what you're doing, and not the fault of the phone.
Here's the first one, answered in a thread conveniently titled "F.A.Q.s - Massive Question Round Up Thread".
Racer Of All said:
Q: Why are my pictures saved to the internal phone storage and how can I force it to save to the SD card?
A: When you first launched your camera app (assuming you had an SD card in) it should have asked you if you wanted to save to the SD card. Either way, the problem is easily fixed within the camera settings or by going to Settings> Storage> App storage locations and choosing Storage card for each option.

When you connect your phone to your computer, if you select media sync instead of hard drive, it will give you access to both internal and external sdcard from your computer.

Thanks, Einstein, but apparently YOU'RE the one that can't read. My issue has NOTHING to do with pictures that's been taken with the camera. Read my post again and then come back with another smart-ass and useless post. Thanks.

Thanks... that takes care of that problem. I never even thought about using that 'Media Sync' option to find files. I still can't find a way to force downloading photos to the SD card though.

No biggie. I really wasn't too concerned with the 'Media Sync' thingy since I ended up deleting the downloaded photos from the phone's internal memory. That wasn't that big of a deal, however... I have bigger fish to fry with my original issue.

thanks for being cool - so where are you downloading the photos from? if you're downloading with the stock browser, you can go to settings, advanced, download storage, and change phone storage to storage card. Is that what you meant?

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. I use the Dolphin HD browser and SOMETIMES Google Chrome (which still has a lot of bugs). I have all of the settings set in the Dolphin HD browser to download photos to the SD card, but they still go to the phone's internal storage. If I remember correctly, Google Chrome doesn't even offer that option. It really doesn't offer it's users that many adjustments at all, actually.

don't know about chrome, but I use dolphin hd also, and I was able to change the download directory to the sdcard by going to settings, privacy and personal data, download directory, and changing that entry to /mnt/sdcard/ext_sd/download. Is that how yours is set up? I just tested it and its working correctly on my end.

Yeah, that's how mine's read. I don't see any other settings in the browser OR on the phone to change the directory path. I don't have this problem on any of my other phones. All the downloaded photos goes straight to the SD card. Oh well...

[Q] Camera not saving photos when flash is used

As the title states. Whenever I use the flash there is a file with an exclamation point and I can only delete it. When I don't use flash the photo comes out strange with artifacts. I can save screenshots from the camera app just fine. I will attach examples.

I'll give that a go. My sig is correct, yes.
EDIT: Just formatted the SD Card by pulling it out and sticking it in my laptop, and also tried formatting from the phone itself. No change. I find it odd that the camera app( stock and otherwise) only saves a corrupted file if the flash is used in taking the photo. If the flash is off it's just got reddish artifacts on the image. BUT, taking a screenshot of the preview before the app saves the photo comes out just fine with the exception of having menu crap all over it. Here's a photo saved by the camera app to the sd card, then a screenshot of the preview before the save.

this might be a hw failure. if you are 100% stock and its happening. you can try to ruu and see if after a clean install its still there or not.

I was hoping it wouldn't be but I suspected it might be. I'm pretty sure it's heat damage to some circuit somewhere. Ah well, my upgrade time is coming up soon. The camera not working isn't so terribad anyhow. I have a discrete digital camera that will suffice.
Have you tried out any camera apps from the market to see if they do the same?

Option to save pictures to SD card?

Can we have the option to save pictures and videos taken to be saved on the SD card without having to root the phone? I played with the camera software and couldn't find anything on this. If someone can help it would be really great

Till now we have no such option "to save pictures and videos taken to be saved on the SD card" without root.
there is always a workaround to move them to SD card till you get the support... patient.. Oxygen OS is still in evolving state...
What happens to app data? Does the folder Android/data go to sdcard or internal storage? Huge installations like Asphalt 8 put files in Android/data and that usually sits in the sdcard.
