I am on the 6-25 edition of the GPE rom but for the past several iterations I have been having trouble with maintaining LTE and cell service. I think i had the issue on hyperdrive too but it was awhile ago so memory is a little fuzzy. I have one of the earlier Galaxy S4s MDK bootloader and baseband.
Basically whenever i go somewhere where there is no or weak cell service the phone has trouble re-establishing it when I go back to an area that has good coverage. I either have to go to access point names and click LTE or reboot the phone. This has long been an issue with GPE rom but it's my understanding that it's mostly fixed now.
I'm wondering which of the alternative radios/modems will be the most reliable when frequently entering and leaving areas of low coverage? Also can i just install the zip with TWRP or do I need to use ODIN. Thanks in advance for any help.
Also I should mention that sometimes it even drops cell service entirely (no phone calls) even when I'm in an area with coverage. I usually have to restart the phone at that point.

I was previously on CM7 Nightly Build 8 when out of no where I experienced a drop in service. Figuring it was just a bug with CM7, I used Odin to get back to stock and then proceeded to flash Bi-Winning. My IMEI and Baseband is still listed but my phone will always say "No Service." Does anyone know what could be wrong?
This happened to me and it was because I needed a replacement SIM card. The TMob rep said I had been using a 2G sim for the last year and that it needed the 3G version. As to why it worked for a year he said that it just does work for a limited time and that time had obviously run out.
Worth a shot ...
What area are you from? I'm just south of Chicago. The last 2 days I have had large chunks of time where data has been unavailable. This is at my house where I have consistent 3g. I think they are up to something....
Thanks for the responses guys, I guess maybe I'll have to go to the Tmobile store and I'm on Long Island.
I just actually Odin'ed back to stock and while my phone still does not pick up any service at my house (which it usually had good service here) I went out and my phone did get some service near the mall in my area. It was only 1 bar though and it only picked up the edge network where usually in that area it would be full strength 3G service. So its not completely broken just extremely weaker than usual. Any suggestions?
the 2g sim card problem happened to me too, so that could be the problem!
try the glitch kernel

I need some help troubleshooting a puzzling problem. This morning, i noticed that my phone had a edge connection in my house, which was strange to me, because i always have a solid 3g connection on my vibrant. I then realized my signal would completely vanish when my phone was in hand. The phone would literally say that i did not have service, but once i place the phone down, it would regain some sort of signal, but the signal would still be rather weak. Im not able to call or text with phone in hand, but i can (barely) when i place the phone down. My signal strength now never gets out of the -100 dBm range, which i know isnt good.
So, I began to try changing modems. i was originally on a 2.2 froyo based rom on KB5, i tried installing the following modems KA6,J16,JFD and KA7, but the problem persisted with all of the modems. As a last resort, i odin'd back to stock froyo 2.2 and im still having terrible reception, is there anything else i can try, or is it time to get another phone???
Did you pay your bill?
Lol yes, its funny that you say that tho, because my bill was due today and i paid it today, but i did not get the usual "thanks being with tmobile" text that usually comes with after a payment.
So I receive my Telus S3 on release day, activated it, and had no problems (that I noticed, but I was connected to WiFi most of the time.)
Rooted it about a week later, and I can barely get service. Rather, I'll get a couple minutes of connectivity, then it'll disappear for 5-10 minutes. It's not a corrupted IMEI, like this thread is discussing. I've since flashed a stock Telus rom on the phone, and I still have the same problems.
We have low LTE availability in the area, so I thought that may be the problem, but the same thing happens with setting GSM or HSPA in the network settings.

Sounds like a pretty curious case... have you uncovered any causes / solutions yet? Also, before you flashed back to the stock Telus rom, what were you using?
I have a similar issue happening also on my rooted telus phone. I rooted it the day I got it so I cant confirm on how it was before. It is running a stock ROM/kernel. What happens to me is my service will drop from 3 or 4 bars to no service or will show 1 bar but be unable to get any service anyways. Im not in an LTE area but I am in a dc-hspa+ area. Is this what happens to you as well?
The only fix I've found is wait 5-10 min for it to come back.
I've not seen this posted anywhere in the i717 part of the forms, and felt like it should be OK to post this.
Ever since I got my Galaxy Note from Rogers, I keep getting sporadic data connectivity issues. LTE data will work great, but if I set my phone down (such as when I am at work) and don't touch it for several hours, by the time I return the phone has no data connection.
However the status bar shows that I have full bars connected to LTE, yet when I open a browser or try to use the Play Store, it keeps saying I have no data connection.
This problem occurs on stock, and with custom roms, currently I am using the latest stable release of CM9 Quincyatt.
Has anyone else run into this problem (with Rogers or any other provider that offers LTE with the sgh-i717)? If so, is there anything I can do to mitigate this issue, currently the only fix I've is to simply reboot the phone. This seems to fix the problem, allowing me to access data until the next lengthy period of inactivity. Then of course after several hours of inactivity, when I go to use it again data will once again be dead (even though the phone reports I have a strong signal).
have you tried this Rogers rux lf4 modem? I've been having great results with the bell modem

Ah, I have not. Thanks for the tip!
I'll give this a go when I get home! Thanks!
Guys,
I need some help, I have an S21U (unlocked) from Samsung. Since launch day, I've had no problems with it. I was with Verizon, then had to move to TMo because of coverage at work. I noticed I started losing signal, like dropping completely, showing the no service circle with a slash, which would immediately be followed by full bars. When on a call, the call drops. This happens over and over, making the phone unusable as a phone.
Thinking it was TMo, I switched back to Verizon. Same thing. I've scoured the web, and there are posts out there describing the same issue, but no resolution. So far, I've tried:
-swapping for a new SIM card
-resetting the network settings
-switching carriers
-using app to manually select LTE over 5G (more on that below)
I've read people hard resetting, with no success. Other than selling or return the phone for a carrier-branded device, I don't know what else to do. I think the timing of the problem and my switch to Tmo was coincidental. It SEEMS when the device switches from 5G to LTE I lost all service. But I haven't stared at the screen to be able to confirm that. I've also seen it flipping from LTE to LTE+ to 5G. But when it drop, it drops hard, and I am one of the 6% of people who still need a phone to be a phone.
Any ideas or suggestions? Returning for "service" through Samsung seems like a nightmare, and the local Samsung repair place said all they will do is re-flash the device.
Thanks!
Tmobile is horrible where I am too. I'm a sprint customer and they are steering me to their crap network.
Use routines to set up a button to run 4g lte mode only
5g is very problematic for me and lte works consistently.
I think 5g is still in it's infancy and not worth the extra power usage even when it's a bit faster in good service areas.

Thanks. It's not TMo, I switched back to Verizon, same issue. So it's definitely the phone. I did try and select LTE only, it didn't matter. Same problem.

I'm having same issues. However I've always been on Tmobile but I literally have no service at my home or work so pretty much all day. On top of that the wifi calling hardly works so making calls is useless. It drops right as it starts ringing lol. I'm pretty sure my issue is a tmobile issue.
Clear sim card tool kit data.
