"Mum" and "Dad" errors - LG G Watch

I thought I would share something that is both amazing and annoying.
I was showing off the my folks the LG G Watch and I said I would send my mum a text through it.
Went through the process:
"OK Google" > "Text Mum" > "Hi"
Then it got to the sending page, and did the circle animation and then came up with the message:
"Sorry. This cannot be completed right now"
After several efforts, I moved onto my Dad's phone and the same happened.
However, I can text any other contact in my phone.
HERE IS THE ODD PART
If I changed the name of the contact for my mum to Tina, and went through the process, it works. Same with my dad.
SO.... any thoughts? Why doesn't it want to know "mum" or "dad"....?

Wow this is really odd I tried this with my watch and it also accepts mum and dad, but my language is set to german, so I didn't actually say "mum" or "dad" but the german equivalent.

How do I get Sent SMS Confirmation?

My Siemens SX56 won't give me SMS Sent Message Confirmation even if I tick the box that requests for it.
How do I do it guys???
What you need to do is this...
Start writing a message, and then choose Edit > Edit My Text Messages. Next, choose one of the messages you won't use (I choose the last one for ease of use and the fact I'd never say "I love my Pocket PC!" to anyone) and edit it to show
*0#
exactly as typed. Asterisk number 0 and hash key / pound sign. Save it and then the next time you type a message, put this in the Subject field of your message. The bad news is that it takes up 3 chars in your 160 max per message, but the good news is that once the message is delivered or pending etc, you get a message telling you. The tickbox in the sms options doesn't seem to work whenever I've tried it (why is it there? - does this work on non o2 providers, out of interest?) but the *0# definitely does.
Hope this helps.
Anthony
the tick box option seems to work fine for me on orange, i know that trying to use delivery reports on nokias with o2 dosent work either! i think its just some o2 thing
Yeah now you say that I remember myself. It was a friend on o2 (who didn't have an XDA type phone) who told me about using the *0# in the first place.
Wonder why they can't set it up as all other networks seem to and it's a very useful feature when it works properly.
Anthony
hey thanks
just posting to thank you for providing this answer.
I've long wondered why ticking the checkbox did nothing but hadn't realised there was a way round it.
that's cool, xda-developers never lets you down

Yes mate, you can, Id done that, but unless its glaringly obvious and I just cant see it, it isnt there, i appreciate the reply, looks like she'll just have to wear her glasses!!!!!!!!
Still searching
I do not think that you can adjust teh SMS size settings but I will keep looking for ya.
As a note maybe you can help me: I searched the forums and have not seen any questions for this possible issue / noob question. I recently got my HTC Hero and have noticed that when ever I receive a text message/ SMS they become all grouped together like they are the same contact but they are not. I open my received messages and i have 4 message from what looks like contact 1 but in fact i have a total of 4 message from 34 different contact. Also when I reply it gets sent to the wrong person.
Any Ideas?

Sent SMS showing squares at receiver end

I sent SMS which was something like three SMSs chained together in Finnish language (Scandic letters äö etc.) to my girlfriend, and she said that only the first sentence was clear text, the rest was squares. Her phone is some old Sony Ericsson non-smartphone.
I told her to send the message back to me, and weird enough, first sentence is nearly as I wrote it, the "" smiley at the end of the sentence was two squares. After the squares, there's a few Chinese or Japanese Kanji characters and then again square or two, then again Kanji characters until end of the message chain.
Anybody seen this kind of problem? I think this should be reported to HTC if not already, I just don't know if this problem can be reproduced otherwise than sending similar awfully cute message to someone
sounds like some weird issue with the character sets being used (UTF-8 or Unicode etc.)
Don't know of any way to check what is being used on android....

I would suggest that your first port of call would be to try to send similar messages to friends who are using more up to date devices. It is possible that it is the SE that is failing to interpret the message correctly, rather than an issue with the Hero per se.
Regards,
Dave
Yes I have, and now that you mentioned it I double checked. I'm quite sure the problem is caused by having a letter with the tilde on top in the message instead of the proper åäö. This happens very easily, since the tilde versions are right next to correct ones on the popup lists of the touch keyboard and the difference on the fonts after typing is barely noticeable.
What I don't know is if those a the only problematic symbols and wheather the character encoding is screwed up on android, by the operator (elisa) or at the receiver phone (s40 I think). I just hope the next version of the HTC rom has Finnish language support so that it would be easier to type and avoid this.
For now, simply spell check you texting carefully before hitting send. Especially when sending to gf

Actually what I didn't mention was that there was one "õ" character in the first sentence just for the reason you mentioned. I'm constantly hitting those still after three weeks using Hero. It may indeed be the reason for this "Chinese" translator" feature!
Thanks for suggesting this, I'm also hoping that if the äö characters are not visible on the main keyboard view, they should at least be more accessible in the future for us Finns
Hello,
Same problem for me. This is a known issue with Android OS, there is many complaisn from all contries in Europe using any special characters like 'ê' in french. More information here:

[Q] Popup to register phone with a text message? Possible virus?

I receive the following popup: "Register your phone by sending a text message? Normal rates apply."
I'm not really sure what it does though. I've only come across like two sites talking about that popup by searching on Google ["normal rates apply" android Xperia].
Now, from what I gather, it seems to be some default SE update thing, as I doubt a virus would request my permission, but if anyone could confirm this, that'd make me feel a bit more at ease.
EDIT: Also, this popup appeared on my home screen, so I'm not sure which app it even came from, or if it came from the OS. It looks like a simple notification menu with an "Ok" and "Cancel".
Why would you register through text message? Sounds like one of those paid text message subscription services to me..i wouldn't do it if I were you

Yeah, the thing that worries me though is that it just randomly appeared while I was on my home screen. It seems like some app made it pop up, but I'm not sure which one. I did click cancel though.

Hmmm, don't have any yet, other than default ones that come with firmware (if there are any).
I also found a Russian site that has a user with the same problem: http://www.sony-ericsson.ru/forums2/lofiversion/index.php/t58873-2950.html but even after translating using Google, I'm still not sure what it does :/
For now, I've re-flashed and am not installing any additional apps for a while, until I see if something I installed caused the problem.
Good idea...perhaps contact your phone company as well thy could generally give you more info in case it is one of those subscription services I was referring to

I'm hoping it's not that , but good idea. I could probably get them to look at my sent/received texts or maybe any weird charges.
It's not a virus or trojan. It's what it says.
Sony Ericsson wan't you to register your device by sending an SMS.
The SMS will send a registration to Sony Ericsson on this number: 0046737494040
You decline it if you don't want to pay international fees for a text send to a Swedish number.

It wasn't there before but just these fews day it coming by
I ignored it (No to the pop-up)
Since it say rate may charge (SMS Rate) so i ignore it ;p

Voice Search App Problem

Anyone know how to get Voice Search to work like it's supposed to, to compose e-mails or texts? To elaborate, all instructions I have found, including the video, instruct you to say the following syntax (with the text in brackets being the recipient and your message):
"Send text to [John Smith] [I may be a little late.]"
Problem is that their name never goes into the "To" field, and instead goes into the Message Body field, so I get this:
To:
Message: to John Smith I maybe a little late
Whenever I click into the To: field, select the microphone icon, and speak a person's name, I get the "No Matches Found" error, no matter what name I say. This renders the app completely useless for sending texts and emails. Am I missing something?
I find similar issues but found a method that works for me when I use the built in Voice Search app. I would say "Text - John Smith" and nothing else. You should find the name has been entered into the "To" field. Now hit the Mic icon again and dictate your message, this seems the only way I got it to work, by doing it in two steps. Works the same on email as well.
hmm if i say send text to <person> <text>
it says:
to: <Person> <number>
message: <text>
Seems to be fine for me... CleanRom DE 1.4...

Wait, what? It works fine for you? Using your same syntax, here's what I get:
If i say send text to <person> <text>
it says:
to:
message: To <Person> <text>
How do we compare what versions we have?
Just try to be more careful in your speaking, and leave a pause between the name of the person and the body of the message.

Huge huge huge tip
Enable the "Personalized Recognition". It will go a LONG way to vastly improving the capabilities of Google's STT. I don't have the clearest voice, and there were some problems I had with STT in general. Once I turned that on, it's gotten much better.
Directly related to your example, I was trying to send a text to my friend Aaron. I think at first it got confused because I literally said 3 names for my text: " Send text to Aaron [pause] Oscar Mike "
At first it put Erin, and had Oscar as a last name. What's awesome is that when it shows those red underlines with an option to delete, I'm pretty sure it learns when you've chosen to delete something. I tried it two more times (2nd time it messed something else up) and on the 3rd try the result was perfect. Now, whenever I send him a text by voice, it always works.
My problem is not with the clarity of my speech, because it actually does recognize what I say quite well. The problem is that it NEVER puts the name in the To: field, even if I don't even say the message part. It ALWAYS puts whatever I say, regardless of what I say, or how I say it, into the Message field. When I click into the To: field and speak a contact's name, 99% of the time it comes back and says No Matches Found.
By comparison, when I choose the standard Messages app, and click in the To: field, it typically finds the right person. But, it sure would be nice if the Voice Seach Message function worked.
When I do Map To and Navigate To and all the other stuff in Voice Search it works just fine. I'm beginning to think there's a bug in the Message part of the version I have. Why else would it skip the To: field altogether? To clarify:
If I say "Send text to John Smith", I get:
To:
Message: To John Smith
If I say the message, too, I get:
To:
Message: To John Smith [message]
are you on GB or ICS?

Yeah, that's odd. If all else fails, make a nandroid backup, fresh wipe/install, and try it again (after turning on personalized results) and see if you still get the same problems. Because I don't really have that issue anymore.
New replacement Rezound unit arrived today to replace the original Rezound for potential hardware issues. Before allowing the unit to update any apps (the other one did update Voice Search), I tried it and got the same results. As far as I can see, Voice Search, on my phone(s) anyways, does not know that the To: field exists! :crying:

I am on ICS so that might have something to do with it. I think you're using an older version of voice search...maybe. Maybe that's the problem? Maybe you can sideload the most current Voice Search APK.
I have some cheap crappy drumset that was on sale over 10 years ago. 3 toms with one kick drum (or I guess floor tom is what they're officially called). I've never changed the heads and I still don't exactly understand the methodology of tuning them LOL. Like, I know how to physically do it, but I'm wondering if there's some deeper understanding I have to discover. I did add a DW7000 double kick pedal but I've moved numerous times and lost bits of the hardware. Also added a crash cymbal because it only came with a hi hat and crash/ride combo. I don't even have a throne, I just sit on whatever I can get!
A guy I used to live with had a sweet set that he inherited from his cousin. It had so many pieces it needed one of those frame things. I think it had 4 or 5 toms in addition to the kick (with double pedals), and about 5 or 6 cymbals and two cowbells. It was too cramped for me to really make use of the double pedals though. Oh, and it had a mat thing for everything to be placed on. I played the **** out of those things while he played guitar. It was pretty awesome \m/
You?
voice search to text
I'm having the same problem since I updated to ICS .211 . Worked fine and as advertised on GB and Froyo but speaking "send" or "text to Joe" results in "to Joe" being inserted in the message field and nothing in the to field. I've used this many times in the past and have tried every combination I can think of to get it to work. It just doesn't. Also, I no longer have a microphone to click on in the message field to initiate voice to text dictation. ICS seems fine other than this. I should mention that I found this thread because of the problem, not the phone. I'm using a Droid Razr.

I have same problem on HTC One XL stock ICS
Finally, someone else with the same problem. Misery loves company.
As has been the case since getting this Android phone, this is yet another buggy stock utility I've given up hope on getting resolved.
Now, I just say:
Send text [message], which puts the message in the message field. I then click in the To: field, click on the microphone and say just the first name, then scroll to find the proper person (because if I say the full name it always gives a no matches found error).
With so many steps, in the end, the utility is worthless for sending text and email messages. Using the microphone in the regular Message app is faster.
