i think you need to have the stock recovery installed to flash the zip, kindly check that out
follow this guide carefully..http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e/general/4-4-4-ota-update-zip-file-t2811397

I have moto e xt1022 Indian dual sim variant.. I earlier unlocked boot loader and rooted and installed twrp recovery everything was working fine but I wanted to update to 4.4,4 so I reverted back to stock android w/o root and custom recovery but now when I try to open stock recovery from borrower it shows a blank page and reboots. I tried to relay stock recovery and flashing was successful but still it shows a black page.

I download and try to install zip file via twrp recovery but it fails. Get error "unexpected contents in system/apps/3c_main.apk"
When I am using twrp recovery, it finally shows no command and then reboots into homescreen, just before the very last step of installing Super SU from SD Card. What should I do ? Go with CWM Recovery ? I will be grateful if you post with download links too !
I have already tried out many methods given on XDA. My friends have rooted their Moto E's except me. Where do I fail? Is 4.4.4 android version coming in my way to root my phone ? I have unlocked the bootloader already.

I had tried to root my phone(1st gen) and successfully unlocked my bootloader. I am running lollipop on my moto e. It now gets stuck at the warning bootloader unlocked screen and it vibrates too. I cant boot my moto e now. I happened after i installed supersu.
Plz help me.
Have you tried booting into recovery?
Wiping cache and dalvik?
Do you have fastboot files for Lollipop, you might need to re flash it.

flash supersu again via recovery !
i've unloacked the bootloader of my MOTO E thn i rooted it with king root, thn i went to bootloader menu and cleared all the data including system and proceeded to install the CM 13 but the installation failed and im unable to install any ROM, the bootloader is working though, what should i do?
Check that all things are working well
Redownload the rom searching the device as "condor"
Re-flash the latest version of twrp
If this doesn't work flash the stock rom and follow an tutorial of how to root the device on the general section
May be zip curoupted

Hello, I have Moto E 2014 3g version(XT1022) and I have recently installed TWRP recovery,I took backup of stockrom and flashed SuperSU zip file to root it and then tried to flash custom ROM which has failed to install. So now when I try to reboot it is booting only to TWRP but not into stockrom(I have recovered it in TWRP) and when open bootloader it is displaying a message' Fasboot mode set to recovery mode' and in Advance and Fasboot also if I type Adb devices it is displaying z31243(somename like this) recovery. Please help me to get out of this problem and I have found some other devices with similar problem in XDA forums..... Please help me... Thanks in advance....

Yes for stock lollipop https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e/development/rom-stock-motorola-lollipop-rom-t3167111
But if you want to flash custom ROM then you can do so.
