[Q] App starts only from Play Store ?!?!? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
since two weeks I've a strange behaviour from at least two apps on a Nexus 5 (unchanged, like Google made it). I can't start these apps from the app directory and not from the (google) launch screen, too. One shows only a white screen after starting, the other one crashes.
But I can start them from within the play store without any problem. One app was installed some months ago (and worked a long time well), the other one was installed after the problem occurs.
Has someone an idea what can cause this behaviour?
TIA...

Have you recently noticed Accuweather Errors?

Accuweather app has been failing a lot since 4/1/2011 on my Streak. Have you received the force-close message more recently than before?
Could this be a result of conflict between accuweather and another app installed? I never had an issue with accuweather until immediately after installing Angry Birds from the Android Appstore.
I havent rooted my tab/phone yet , but when time permit, I will and will be removing accuweather. I dont need it.
I had FC from time to time with accuweather 2 or 3 weeks ago. I don't use this app, so I removed it (root).
As mentioned in another thread, I had problems with this app. I have since reloaded the OS and not put in Angry Birds. So far the widget is working fine and every time I open the link to the website it all behaves properly.
I like the widget and the screen I get when I first expand it, so I'll find another game to play when I'm bored.
Looks like rooting is the only option in order to stop FC message by uninstalling accuweather. Well for now I will have to contend until I can sit down and root my phone.
Apparently the weather app does not like games. I had problems with Angry birds. Immediately after playing NinJump for the first time the weather app started force closing.
I stopped using the widget and downloaded the new version. (which isn't an update to the regular app)

[Q] Google Play Store Crash

Hello wise members of XDA,
This problem has been a tumulus week of trial and error to no avail.
About a week ago (approx. the time when the new web Google Play redesign went live), I've started having problems with my Play Store.
I wanted to open my play store, but it immediately crashed.
I'm on an international Samsung GT-I9100 (GalaxyS2), and this problem is not phone specific, because it occurs on a friend HTC Desire, and a Galaxy Note, and also a pair of Galaxy S Duos.
1. My phone was initially rooted, and I also had Market Enabler Installed. I thought that may be the problem, so I reverted the Market Enabler changes, but still crashed.
2. I went into applications and cleared the cache and data for the Play Store app, it again crashed.
3. Cleared cache and data for play store app, google framework services app, and everything with google in its name or connected to google, and it crashed again.
4. Did the same thing as no. 3, and then restarted the phone, and it crashed again.
5. Did a factory reset, and it crashed.
6. Reinstalled my Galaxy S2 Stock OS, but instead of just crashing, now the phone freezes and reboot is required.
7. Wiped everything on the usb storage and the other storage, and installed Stock OS, and it crashed again.
8. Rooted that brand new os install, and it crashed again.
9. Installed the new Play Store App (4.2.3) and it crashed again.
10. Downgraded Play Store app, and nothing, crashed again.
11. Is there anything left to try?
The problem is, when entering the play store it crashes. If somehow I open the play store so that the landing page of the play store is avoided, it works (e.g. If I google search for an app, and open the play.google.com link on my phone, and when it prompts me to open it via Play Store, then it is opened via play store). Then I can go into 'My Apps', but the 'installed' tab shows nothing, whereas the 'all' tab, shows the history of my installed and unistalled apps.
This problem is with 2 of my GalaxyS2, 2 Galaxy S Duos, Galaxy Note (N7000), and my friend's HTC Desire (running 4.2).
For any ideas, please chime in, I'm willing to try anything.
Currently I'm on stock 4.1.2 and rooted with Philz kernel.
Totally same for me i tried all above too but i think this problem will be common wide for all.
Pls a solution
Sent from my GT-I8190 using xda app-developers app
Just found out another guy with a ZTE has this problem as well. I'm starting to think that this may be a regional problem.
Bump!
Anyone else experiencing this, or is it just one specific country?
Crash problem Solved
Ok, after going through the browser and updating the Google+ app, that initiated the Google Play Services update, which in turn fixed the Google Play Store crash problem.
Now the problem is the same as everyone else that is not living in the US. Getting geographical restricted apps.
For our country, there are NO apps at all.
Market Enabler, Market Unlocker Pro, and HotspotShield do not work. Anyone else have any ideas?

[Q] google play keeps crashing

I'm not too sure how to start this so I'll just start in the beginning.
My phone is rooted and it has been for a while and i wanted to downgrade my play store to 3.7 but my phone came from the factory with the newest play store pre-installed so i couldn't just go into manage apps and uninstall updates because my phone never had 3.7 on it so i uninstalled the play store using my root uninstaller (like an idiot) and went through a time period of about a week where I couldn't even get the play store installed. last night i finally got it installed to the point where I could actually see the app in my apps list. So after getting the play store re-installed I thought i was finally done with this problem. However when i touch the app icon to open the play store the screen just hangs stays black for a few seconds before telling me that the google play store stopped working. so im stuck with the app closing pretty much right after i open it. If ANYONE has any idea what to do i would be extremely grateful.
Can anyone help? Still hasn't opened properly and I can't figure out why

Had the same problem before, Google Play Store closing on touch. Solved it by installing it at system app. Since you are rooted you can easily do this.

Android Messages on Nokia 7.1

Two weeks ago, this paradox thing happened to our cellphone - the messaging system app while still installed and running properly, disappeared from the Play Store app list and as you can see from the attached screenshot, it now displays a message that "is no longer compatible with your device - contact the developer " and all this on an Android One mobile! I have confirmed this on 3 friends' mobiles and other user reviews in the app's play store page. Clear cache & data of the store as we usually do didn't help, so what I am asking is you check on your phones as well and propose any fixes (?) for this really awkward problem
Needless to say, even if there are app updates, we can't install them from the store as long as this message appears in the app page
I experienced the same. I side loaded the latest apk and it was good.
Problem solved as suddenly as it appeared on the Play store app description. Incompatible warning message disappeared, app updated automatically, all back to normal
Of course, we will never learn what caused all this mess
I think it had something to do with the new messaging feature they released. The ability to see if the other person is typing, seen and sent confirmations, etc.
