Hello guys,
I recently got enough money for buying a new phone so I looked on the web and I founded the Xperia SP and the S3 and I might think that they should be good for my needness. Well the only thing I personally don't know is which device to choose... I don't know if I should go for more community and bugfree CM11 and a camera but with the "laggy" Touchwiz UI (or at least, many people are saying that) and a slower CPU and GPU or should I go for more speed, more premium materials but for the snappy but ugly Xperias Timescape and a little bit buggy CM11... Well I hope You guys can help me which to decide
The most thing I only do is playing Clash Of Clans, listening to music, use social networks and sometime play Asphalt 8 and ofc, experiment with ROMs

I own both the devices and Xperia SP beats S3 anytime anyday.
Xperia's UI is finesse but the things I like the most about this devices are the Walkman App, urm the ligh bands at the bottom, the way coc runs (Like butter).
The Things i like about S3, AMOLED screen, rest of it, poop!

I think about getting this deviced but I am not sure yet becouse of following things. First, how is the performence? No one really knows anything about that NovaThor Chip, is it comparable to ?Tegra2? ?Snapdragon s3? ?Exynos? and the Mali 400, is it the same as in SGS2 or has it less cores? How does it handle Games like MC3, Dungeon Defenders, Shadowgun and other high grafics Games? Would nice if someone could provide a Nenamark2 score.
Then what about flowting touch? Is it usefull? Do any third party apps support it?
Do you think the community will grow? Will there be stuff like CM9, AOKP, MIUI v4? Has FreeXperia said anything about support for other Xperia12 devices than the S?
And last but not least would you sugest this device?

Well, as SONY says, Novathor is a smart battery-efficient chip in which it manages processes that the phone is doing smartly like if there are many processes that's active, the chip passes other processes to the other core for it to be processed there so there won't be much burden on the other core and they've said it's the reason why it's saving battery.
About the mali 400, yes it has a single core but it still performs at it's best.
I think floating touch is currently working on web pages only but again, sony said they will let developers to integrate it to other apps.
And once SONY releases source codes, SURELY, development will finally start, just give it some time.
Finally, it depends on how you will use the phone. It lacks front-facing camera, the battery cannot be removed, camera shutter is hard to press. Those are the disadvantages of this phone to say the least. But beside that it's a pretty decent phone for it's price range, and hey it's from SONY.
Hope you already got all the answers to your questions .. It's really up to you now if you're gonna choose it.
Thank you that was very helpfull but i still dont know enough about the grafic performence. How does it run HD games? Can you make a Nenamark2 test for me? Sorry but this is very importend for me and google does not know much about it. =)

the only thing i can say is that its really smooth. I didn´t tried many games, because the screen isn´t that big compared to Xperia S ^^ ... but I tried gba emulator and you see no difference between S and sola here.
Btw. it has a dual core cpu...
Floating touch is almost useless for me, but thats only my oppinion.
The Battery life is way better than on Xperia S!

Can anyone link or quote Sony's plans for floating touch? I've been googling it and can't find anything. The official Sony forum has a few threads but NO info on this. I'd love to see more floating touch e.g. music controls, lock screen, other browsers, menus etc. It could be so much more than one little (but expensive) gimmick...:good:

If you're okay with the fact that this phone will not get JB, go ahead.
In my opinion, wait one month or two, all the phones announced on this CES '13 will start to be realeased by then and a lot of phones will come very cheap with a lot of funcionality.
I don't use officall updates only cm releases
Things are important for me:
Camera quality
Custom rooms
Design
And new phones comes late and they will be expensive in my country

camera quality is great.........
many custom ROMs for this device............
-the camera sucks for me sincerely (a lot of noise, slow autofocus and camera key has a bad feedback)
-dev support pretty good (a lot of roms, CM9 nearly stable CM10 in working)
-beautiful design, no plastics noise, fantastic rubberizzed body
-display fantastic, great resolution and brightness
-audio speaker with low volume but has a clean sound, speaker phone has a low volume but high quality, dual microphone works very well
these are my opinions
1. Normal camera without fantastic quality
2. Good display
3. Pretty perfomance, but not enough RAM
4. JB will be from CM and other dev teams based on rom from SXP
I bought my Xperia Sola about a month ago
I am really enjoying this phone, and I think it is definately worth the money it costs
take in mind it won't be updated to JB officialy EVER.
Would defiantely recommend, if you can add a little cash and go for Xperia S or Galaxy S Advance, also not a bad option. :laugh:
If you want to use it for the internet - no - worst battery EVER. If you don't need the internet, maybe.
P.s. I had the Mini too -way better battery.
If you're planning to use CM releases, then this will qualify as a phone.
Stock is just horrible as it can't function as a phone: Lag when people call. Crashes when SMS arrives.

I hope u can help me with some advice.. the thing is that i need to choose between this 2 devices and is harder than i thought..
The thing is that some stuff I like at S3 some I don't and the same story with the xperia Z
S3:
+ Lots of futures and does a lot of great stuff (motion and bla bla)
+ It seems better optimized like the Z is more powerfull and it scores better in benchmarks.. but i see that ppl are saying that the S3 is better optimized, is that true ? (or it is not that obvious?)
+Speaker is better than the XZ...I don't listen music.. but I wanna hear my phone when it rings..

I would choose the s3 my friend. My reason? Having owned a xperia z for a short period of time, I found the battery to be horrific and having to use power save just to get through a day. S3 however, battery is excellent and can easily handle my daily usage. Thats my reason. Choose wisely

I'd get the Xperia Z personally.
The S3 is like a current day Ford Mustang or Dodge Charger. It has great specs and the engine sounds bloody great but in the end, it can't put all the power on the road and can only go in straight lines.

As a former s3 owner I say go for xperia z , also I think xperia z is in class whit s4. It has a better screen and specs then s3 .

Do you think it's a possible that we will get a Google Play edition? I'm hoping yes, there's already a Google Play edition of the Z Ultra, but I think it hasn't sold well, so maybe Sony won't bother anymore? What do you guys think? Sony's skin is not bad per se but the only thing they do better than stock android is the camera app , which is horrible on nexus devices :crying:
It would be nice to have stock android and quick updates, sony is maybe the worst of all major android manufacturers when it comes to updates :/

Give them a chance, the update on Z1 Compact was rather quick too. Who knows, they must have done work on the software side too.

But it's just bug fixes, they haven't proved they can bring android updates quick .
After I played around with a One (M8) , I gotta say I'm really impressed by sense 6 ,with the launcher being the exception I would say I like it more than stock android and that's saying a lot, it's cohesive and it looks modern ,unlike Sony's ui, it looks a bit dated :'( it's cohesive (unlike stock android ) but it's just me, the only thing that makes it look good are the comparisons with Touchwiz and LG's ui (they're both beyond ugly )

Haven't used the Z2 but I did have a wee play about with the Z1 and it was pretty close to stock Android so can't see why Sony would bother releasing a Google Play edition.
I used CM on my S3 as I hated Touchwiz but don't think it will be necessary, for me at least, to do that with the Z2. Maybe root it to get xposed framework running but that'll probably be as far as I go.
There will most likely be a Google Play edition. But honestly, I think a google play edition of a Sony phone is pointless - you loose all the best features that make an Xperia device, well.. an Xperia. If you want a pure google experience, with no Walkman, Album, X-Reality, Bravia etc. - you'll probably be better off buying a Nexus 5.

I don't care about any of those things to be honest but I do care about the battery life (which with my use is terrible on the nexus 5) and the camera quality

Not true ....they have released a Google play edition HTC M8 and it has most of its "special Features " are included the software,

Why SP? If you go for Xperia ZR, which is almost the same but with 2GB RAM, the choice is almost certainly Xperia ZR, the bugs are rare, and KitKat is officially released to the device. If you don't mind sacrificing the amount of internal storage, that is.
