Random restart while on a call. - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Had this happen for the second time today. During a call, the handset makes a loud buzzing noise and restarts itself. It's not like the buzz when it vibrates, it's actually coming from the phone speaker. Anyone heard of this being an issue?*

You could try re-inserting the sim card. I have had a few random reboots after the sim card had worked itself loose

Just realised my issue was probably down to the fact I had installed sim card without the sim card tray.

[Q] No Cellular (Voice) Service with SIM Removed

I did search, but didn't find an answer to my question: should I be able to get non-data cellular (voice) service with the SIM card pulled? Thanks
Edit: would someone be so kind as to try pulling their SIM and turning their phone on to see if they have voice service? Would be much appreciated. Thanks

Thank you for confirming. I was under the impression that the SIM should only affect 4g data, but I'm assuming that the SIM also has all of the relevant info for connecting to Verizon's networks, period. At least that's my best guess. Thanks again.

[Q] Not Registered on Network - How to fix?

Does anybody know how to fix this "error" message or why it shows up? I can't use the phone... as a phone!
I have the same issue. Even when I insert sim It says "no sim". I checked the phone lock status. But It's all unlocked. Please guys help us...........
Yesterday i had this problem too but today morning when i restarted my phone I got my phone registered to network seems like a carrier related issue. Try formatting your phone. And i also noticed that when the sim card was not placed correctly it showed me No sim card( i cut my sim using a scissor). So try placing your sim perfectly or try formatting your phone.

Hole volume up + middle key and switch on your phone. Your phone will get you into recovery mode from that menu using the volume rocker keys select format option and your phone will be hard reseted.

You can find more info about how to cut the sim here:

I had similar problems when my phone was delivered on Tuesday - cut my (Orange) SIM down to size, it worked for a while, then no network. Took it to an Orange shop, they tried their microSIMs, none worked. Arranged to have the phone replaced, but had another last play, and then my cut SIM in it started working - it would lose service intermittently, but eventually it was, and is, stable.
Mine has intermittent reception issues, ie dropping to emergency only every so often. My phone was sim-free so I figured it was because it lacks vodafone's customization.
I also cut my sim, maybe its an issue of it moving about slightly causing interrupts.

Guys i had the same problem, theres a solution in my thread that i didnt try cause i managed to get the faulty phone replaced but u's should try it and see if it works

It seems that nobody knows exactly what is the fault, the part with the sim cut wrong ( it cannot be )... I have tried 2 different micro sim (factory cut) and still no difference... now I'm using my homemade the micro sim in my Galaxy S2 (without any adapters) and works perfect ( even moved around )... The Galaxy S3 is still not working! After checking with one of the guys from Phones4U, he told me that it can be a fault (hardware or software)... the best way to fix it... is replace the phone! I did not try any of the fixes from here ( so I will not make any changes to the phone - needed for the replacement - warranty )... if anyone has a good fix for this, just post it here for other people who are facing the same problem, thank you!
Your symptoms and what you've tried sounds so similar to what I had on Tuesday, also on Orange.
The guy in the Orange shop suggested to me that you'd see the same symptoms if the IMEI is reported as being lost/stolen - obviously my phone was brand new out of a sealed box, from Amazon, so this was unlikely, but it's an interesting thought if yours was second hand?
Have you managed to connect the phone via Wifi, and perform an update? This is what I did, on the off-chance it might help, as there was an update waiting. My phone did then intermittently connect to the mobile network, and gradually got more stable. It's fine now. Worth a try if you haven't already?
If your SIM card is not recognized, try this

Well, I got this problem too. And I found out that you have to push the card with a sharp object to the far left (when holding the phone with the SIM slot downwards, I shot it from the the opposite angle because of the light) inside the SIM slot for the phone to recognize your own made micro SIM. I used the SIM pin from a iPhone 4S, but I also tried with a needle and scissors, and they all worked fine.
As you can see in the picture, theres a "pin" sticking out the right (when holding the phone as described above the pin will be on the left side) Make sure that the pin "sticks out" as showed in the photo. It seems that if that pin isn't sticking out, the phone will not recognize that a SIM is inserted. I was trying for over an hour, and then I tried this and it worked at the first try.
Good advice, mistwalker, I also wondered if it was anything to do with whether it 'clicks' into position in the slot. Mine works now, so I'm not touching it again!
It has happened twice for me that it says it's not registered on network, both times i've held the power button down and deactivated the network then activated it again and it's been working.

Thank you for the advice, I have tried all so far... even updating the phone, in the last 2 hours I got stuck changing the position of the sim... I tried also a different sim... and same message comes on the screen! I will send it back to the seller and get a refund for it... the "funny" part is that I have moved the "micro sim" from S2 to S3 a few times, and the S2 has never let me down... with no micro sim adapter on it!
I think Galaxy S2 is still one of the best phones on the market... it is not so fragile as S3... and this is my second S3... the first one had to be replaced because a small accident (screen cracked after a bump in the wall)... and the bump was a light one. I admit is faster (like a "rocket"), but the "new" screen - gorilla glass 2 is fragile (like an egg)
Does anyone know how to check if the phone (IMEI) is on the blacklist? Maybe this is the "fault" from my S3... :cyclops:

[Q] Phone goes into "Emergency calls only" mode ?

It seems that everytime I plug my phone to the charger for few hours, it goes into Emergency calls only mode where I have no data and no calls incoming nor outgoing. Only way to solve it is to restart the phone or turn Airplane mode on and off to reset. Is this a common problem ? Could it have happened from unlocking my boot loader and rooting ?
I'm considering switching to the custom ROM "the base" in order to maybe solve this
Well I think this is new. Could just be a bad sim card. I don't have this problem and I haven't seen anyone else mention having it. I'd go to where ever I got it and have them swap the sim and if that didn't work the phone.
I would open the sd card/sim card cover and make sure sim is inserted fully. It should lock into place and need to be pushed in further to eject. I used a paperclip to push it in.

I actually had this happen to me like two days ago. I had just texted someone before walking to the lower level of a mall to go shopping. I took a look at my phone a little later and my phone was stuck on Emergency Calls with no data coming in. The carrier on the status bar wasn't even there anymore. Restarted my phone and all was fine. Not sure what caused it.
I've had this the last two days in areas I've always had great service. Wonder what's up with it.

Base rom has this enabled, or you need to be rooted and edit build prop.
I had this happen last week. I did the airplane mode toggle to clear it... but it freaked me out for a few minutes.
Running The Base, sk8r's kernel during install, no change to the LTE setting, no crazy mods applied.
I also sit in a nearly-dead-zone at work, and I have lost the data connection. Moving into the clear does not fix the issue. Reboot has been required.
This Android App Might Help
I had just the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy S2 with UK mobile provider Three.
I eventually wrote an app called which reconnects whenever it detects that the phone has got locked into Emergency Calls Only.
Maybe it will be of use to you. Search Google Play for "Cell Reconnect". Seems I'm not allowed to post links here yet...
Figured it out for my phone
I got a refurbished LG optimus G E970 from a seller online and had this issue the second day of using it. I checked to see if it was the SIM or SD card by putting them into my old phone, but that wasn't it because the old phone still functioned properly making calls/messages. I even did a factory reset on the phone. Still didn't work. I finally just decided to change the mobile networks to my provider's GSM network and it worked. Not sure why it didn't work in the first place since I never changed the network, but this did the trick.

Hello. Could you please elaborate on how you fix that issue? I'm currently on T-mobile and my unlocked AT&T LG E980 is losing signal like crazy, just briefly loses signal and goes into emergency mode only. It is so annoying though. Would really appreciate any insight on it. Thanks.

All of a sudden phone stopped sending texts or making phone calls

I was mid conversation in texts and my phone started failing to send texts. But can still get on the internet. So i tried making a phone call and it won't connect. Had someone try calling me and it goes to voicemail. Had then send me a text and i got it, just can't reply back. Anyone hear of this before?
Also I'm completely stock. Haven't rooted yet. Only had the phone less than a month.
I've tried turning the phone off for several minutes, pulling the battery, pulling the SIM card, nothing helps.
You don't need a data connection to text, but you do need a basic cellular service connection to make phone calls and text. I've only seen that happen with my Thunderbolt because I had the battery cover off the phone and the antenna is built into the battery cover. I'm not sure if the antenna is built into the battery cover on the Note II.

Now that I've read the rest of your findings, the fact that you can receive a text message of any sort means that you have basic cellular connectivity. If you've already restarted the phone and pulled the battery with no change, you may need to do a factory reset in order to restore your phone back to complete working order. If you have time, wait and see if somebody else chimes in with a fix that doesn't require you doing a factory reset.
Let's try some basic stuff first. Turn the phone off, pull the sim then turn the phone back on. Let it boot up then power off put the sim in and power on.
