[Q] Difference between Galaxy S3 Neo and a normal S3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
what's the difference between these 2 phones? And can I install a ROM for the normal S3 to the "Neo" one?

Well dude I dont think that there may be very big different in s3 normal and s3 neo.
may be some functionality different or something like that.
You can easily compare both phone on gsmarena[dot]com.
I thing No, You can't flash custom roms of different model as by doing that may brick your phone.
Every phone has a model No. like s3 normal is GT-I9300 .
so you should download and flash for that specific model only other may might loose your phone.
Press THANKS if I helped you.

Different processors and neo has extra 512mb of RAM. And that's just for starters.

Nope you can't. First we need custom recovery. I think however latest stock rom from samsung, is really good ! Be sure to not update, but keep what version of android you find when buying the phone otherwise you can't root.

SWH M440S VS i9300

Hello so i got my S3 today, it's the 3G korean version SWH M440S.
Will rooting and those custom firmwares that was made for i9300 work?
Also, the phone came with a lot of random unneeded apps, how do i put on a fresh un modified FW from Samsung on my korean version?
Also, S Voice is in korean even when i set the language to English, how do i change it to english?
Thanks

Not sure about rooting and fw, for s-voice you have to enter the S-voice settings to change the language. Just hit menu when in Svoice.. you'll have to guess since it's in another language which to pick. lol.
Is that model you got the one with the quad and 2gb of ram? Are you using it in CA? if so what carrier and does it work fully? and last question.. where did you get it and how much? lol
The "SHW-M440S" is a Exynos 4 quad with 1gig of ram as far as I can tell.
I wouldnt flash anything meant for the i9300 (International version), take a look in this thread for more info on this device and other stuff
Well it's identical in terms of hardware to the i9300.
I want to get rid of all the things that this korean telecom company had preinstalled on the phone and have a clean phone.
Have anyone tried using any i9300 mods with the korean 3g S3

You get whatever firmware is for your phone as provided by the phone vendor . You do not get a base Android .

In the thread somebody linked above there are instructions on rooting the phone, there also is pre-rooted stock Rom and one custom Rom called prestige. Your best bet is to get rooted and use titanium to remove all the bloat ware. The few international Roms and mods I have tried have not worked but let me know if find one that does!

Is there a way to flash this thing to i9300?
The phone supports AWS but not in this "state" of fw.
If you find a way let me know. If I knew now what I know now I would have gone with a international version. But I was making the jump from an iPhone so didn't know that mine would be so incompatible. Oh well, still a sweet phone!

Head over to the Korean phone page here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749214), root your phone, use titanium to freeze or uninstall all those unwanted apps!
On another note found this on Korean dev site. Seems this guy is running the Siyah kernel with CM10 on his M440s
Edit: He posted his Siyah kernel and via translation seems you could use CM9/10 with it. Gonna get the mrs to make sure google translate is correct before trying. You can easily sign up at that site to access the files.

So, how do I proceed to debrand (remove sk telecom rom and get a stock debranded rom?
Ive only seen i9300 ones. Can I use i9300 stock rom on shw m440s as I use this phone in canada
As of right now you have two options that i know of. 1) root the phone and manually remove bloatware. 2) use a custom Rom (cm9/10/etc) with a custom kernel.
If you can't read Korean, can't figure out how to access sites for custom kernels PM me with email address and I'll email you the modified cm9/cm10/franco kernels I have found for our phone then you can test out which works best for you.

Hello I'm a Korean user
for custom ROMs, you have to flash a 'kernel converter' of a custom kernel for the shw-m440s after flashing the ROM for the firmware to work. sometimes, touchwiz based ROMs have problems with communication and photography but aosp based ROMs and CM based ROMs have worked perfectly so far. recovery you can flash the same one with the i9300 and have no problem. For rooting you have to have a visit to this thread
So I have a S3 and I am totally not sure if its the original I9300 or SHW M440S... I have flashed stock I9300 4.3 firmware and the result was a laggy firmware and my phone kept rebooting. I wasnt the first to own this phone, my uncle did and he said he just flashed the old i9300 4.3 firmware and the problem has occured which is a broken camera (cant connect to camera), not working speakers and headphone jack and mic...
Normally I would just get it fixed but.. Because of the broken cam, speakers and mic, my youtube or any online streaming videos does not load and mp3 musics dont play as the player apps force close when i press play...
Again, a broken hardware does not affect the software so I am not sure if it is really the hardware or I just flashed the wrong firmware on the wrong phone.
Has anyone ever tried to flash a I9300 4.3 official firmware on a S3 SHW M440S?
Did you get the same result as I did?
Do you recommend me to flash a SHW M440S firmware on my s3 just to check? Will it not brick my phone?
Please help me out..
Thanks and God Bless
You can't flash i9300 rom on a M440S without it being converted, or installing a kernel made for the m440s afterwards or using a kernel converter after the rom.

Dude you asked the same question thrice, just differently worded. For god's sake.
Read up on porting ROMs if you want to know how a ROM for one device is made to work on another. It usually requires a device specific kernel that's made to be compatible with the other device's ROM, and then there's resizing work to be done for all the apps if the other device's screen is of a larger resolution.
Judging by your questions, it's obvious you don't have any developer knowledge, and porting requires quite a bit of it. So, for the last time, NO you can't do whatever you're asking.
same specs device
hi,
i have a similar question but for an identical hardware phones.
my device is with mt6577 cpu (neo n002), and running ICS i searched for a JB rom but didn't find one.
there are other devices with that chipset even same ram (size), screen resolution, maybe same camera, so i wonder if i can port
the JB rom to my device or even install the rom as it is?
if so, can i keep specific drivers from the ICS version, in case i get a problem with gps/camera/mic.....?
thanx.

[Q] just question

why we can't flash galaxy S4 software on Galaxy S3? I mean the official rom , and why the odin refuses the rom when I try to flash it? I know because the software is working only on S4 because the hardware like installing apple mac on PC but is their any way to make odin pass the software to S3?
I think that there's no way you can flash gs4 rom on gs3...you can only brick your phone like that.
Why don't you just root your phone and flash any custom gs4 like rom?

because I want to get the new S4 features like smart scroll , smart pause ... etc
Glamour S4 rom developer ported all the S4 smart features in his rom but nothing working yet and he said all that features will work in another fix , so why till now the S4 features don't work on S3?
That will never work because they are 2 different devices. It will lead to an expensive paperweight. Some features will come to the S3 in future updates. Some will not for two reasons. The S3s hardware doesn't support the feature (ex. Temperature sensors) or because Samsung is beginning to move on from the S3

For the same reason you cant flash the HTC one os on your s3. Its a different device with different hardware, ergo different drivers.
If they kept the same hardware, it wouldn't be an upgrade

[Q] HELP!!using international galaxy s2 i9100 screen on sgh i777

hello ,
i bought a factory unlocked galaxy s2 sgh-i777 and i m using it in india but recently i broke it's display/screen and now i got it repaired by samsung india ...they replaced my old screen with the screen of i9100...because of which only theback and the setting capacitive buttons are working and the home button is not working...so can i install official jellybean of i9100 on my sgh-i777 in order to make the home button to work?
i am currently using the button savior app but i m trying to sell the phn anf it would be difficult to sell it because of it's home button nt functioning...
please help...
thanks..
mrinal
Hey Mrinal. Well even I stay in India and I have been using an unlocked SGH-I777. My display has been cracked but ts still working as perfect as it was before.
Well about your issue, I can say is even if you flash a I9000 ROM, you may get the home button to work, but you will have to use the default kernel which comes inside the ROM itself. But as it is meant for the I9i000 you may face certain problems(software related) if you use it on SGH-I777.
So all I can say is if you are okay with the issues that may be faced, go ahead and give it a try.
And please let me know how much did they charge you to replace the display.

I have already rooted my phone and also installed Busy box but i'm using original firmware that is UCMD8 which i had flashed through odin. If i can cyanogenmod without modding my kernel then i will possibly is install cyanogenmod. By the way i had already mistakenly bricked my old galaxy SL and damaged its emmc chip, so i'm kinda scared. But if it doesn't involve flashing custom rom or installing modded kernel then i will surely install cyanogenmod.
Mrinal both the phones have different GPU's and there are one or two more differences between both the phones. So the I9i000 kernel will be specially designed to be functional for that specifications. So this may cause you problems. Please just google the "difference between I9100 and SGH-I777" u'll get to know what m talkin bout.
You need to modify the keylayout file, take it from i9100. Hopefully that'll be it. All the rest can be left from i777.
Search for the exact file you need, it's some think like /system/etc/*something*.kl. Google is your friend.
The reason I asked is because there is a mod that gets you nexus software keys, but idk it works with stock rom.

No chances of bricking if you flash an I777 kernel after flashing the I9100 ROM. And i dont think you have to use an app for onscreen buttons. I mean if u r on a stock ROM you'll have to else if u r using a custom AOSP ROM then the navigation is already present in the settings..jus have to enable it.

Look. If you are gonna flash a stock I9100 ROM den you sure will brick it. And by stock I mean pure stock straight from Samsung. And if you flash a CUSTOM stock ROM you wont get a brick as far as you have ported it to SGH-I777..to my knowledge. I have done this.
And I would suggest you to flash an AOSP ROM.
And porting the ROM is nothing like "specially mod the rom". You just have to replace a few 'modules' which are in the system/etc/modules folder(M not sure if it is in etc or usr folder) and flash it off. You dont have to change any keylayout file as u want the buttons to work same as on I9100. Please google "How to port an I9100 ROM to SGH-I777". Its pretty simple process.
And make sure you flash a SGH-I777 kernel after u flash the I9100 ROM.
