Hello everyone,
I have tried my level best to find the answers to my questions by reading other posts but unable to find answer.
Here are some stupid question,
1. What is recommended , install ROM on external SD (I have class 10) or Internal SD?
2. I am thinking to do internal GPS module modification, will it work with upcoming android version? How up to date GPS mod software version.
3. In context of GPS internal module, what is recommended ROM to use?
4. At this point which ROM is most stable? I have been happily using Gtabcomb 3.3 something but ever since I updated to 3.4.2 , My tablet has some hiccups. Please recommend accordingly.
5. Many guys recommend to use “froyo combo”, are there any special steps for going from Honeycomb to froyo based ROM?
I think thats all for now.
I would appreciate any replies on my questions.
Thanks in advance.

Hey guys , I am getting more and more confused after reading a lot post on the forum. I think I updated from Gtabcomb to Gtabcombover , are these two different ROMs altogether?
DO I need to update my CWM? if yes, what is the most stable version for bootloader v1.2?
There is a new firmware out for Gtablet , can someone please guide how to update the firmware?
I would appreciate your answers.
For GPS, read this thread and then ask specific questions.
Yes I have gone through the post, in fact that's where I have got idea for internal gps. It looks like you are the one who is supporting software side.
How ever, your post has no updates since a while. So in your opinion what is the future for that module, in terms of software support? Do you suggest I should go for the update?
Please disregard all other questions, as I repartioned and fresh install gtabcombover, so far things working smooth, except it froze once. I can live with that.
Many thanks.

We are working on perfecting the GPS side of the software in ICS. There is a build that is released that works but not perfectly yet. Check here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525367

For Froyo, GB and HC ROMs no more work is needed--however, I may make cosmetic changes. For HC ROMs, use the zip file from post #417 instead.

There are a variety of causes for a ROM freeze--overclocking to 1.4 GHz and playing 1080p movies, for example, always hangs my ROM after a short time. Another, is the result of the kernel killing the wrong processes when the system runs out of memory. For this, follow the suggestions in this post.
There are a lot of people joining xda on daily basis, and there are a lot of repetitive questions being asked which fill up Development threads. Point them here. Feel free to ask or answer questions. Idea of this thread is to get users to help other users with their problems/questions. Please do not spoon feed, but rather point in the direction where that user can find an answer and educate himself
I don't actually have the GS3 unfortunately, but in order to make XDA a better place, I thought I'd open up a help thread for those who need it. I won't be able to give S3 specific help, but I can help in terms of general questions. Hopefully some of the experienced S3 help out on this thread, because it'd make everything easier. Thanks!
First thing first. I strongly advise you to read THIS thread before posting ANYTHING on XDA.
Then, have a quick look at the names of threads in post no2, you might find what you need right away.
For ROM issues please do mention in your post about:
ROM name
ROM version and base
kernel version and its settings
any mods applied on top of it
flashing "style" aka dirty or clean
something like this
...and be sure you have asked before on the ROM thread unless you have less than 10 posts on XDA
Third. Even if you do get your question answered, please, do come back and read threads in post no2 (coming later as soon as we start getting the guides) to educate yourself. You'll be surprised how much time and frustration it will save you in the future.
ASK ANY QUESTION HERE,adb, drivers, superCID etc...... You will either get an answer or will get pointed in the right direction.
No abuse towards noobs tolerated here! No question is stupid in this thread.
***I feel that a little OT is healthy to the success of this type of thread. The people here who help the most will develop a comradery therefore OT is allowed within reason. Common sense will be applied ***
HALL OF FAME
People who contributed most to this thread and helped countless number of people with their problems/questions. In no particular order.
Currently none. Hopefully soon.

Stuck
Hey guys, i'm sort of a noob on these forums so any help would be great!
I've had previous experience with rooting because of my S2, no problems at all. I got my s3 about a month ago and I've been trying to figure out how to root it. It's a GT-I9300T ( Australian model ). It has a lot of Vodafone bloatware, however it's unlocked as i'm using an Optus sim card. I've also read that there aren't many differences between the international model and the T model, so any international ROM should work fine. It's running 4.3. I've read about how KNOX is built into 4.3 and makes rooting difficult by blocking the installation of custom Roms and disabling superSu. I'm not sure if i have Knox though, because i don't have a KNOX app installed; there are no KNOX related apps installed on my phone ( according to the all section of my applications manager ) and it says nothing about the KNOX counter in download mode. Is KNOX still present on my phone, and will i be able to install customs roms?
Also, what would be the best method of rooting? I have tried the saferoot method by Mrw0lf on YouTube, which is made not to trigger Knox. I've read about CF root and other methods involving Odin, have not tried any yet because i'm scared of bricking my phone. Any help or link would be helpful. Also, if something goes wrong; would i be able to flash a stock 4.3 ROM onto my phone using Odin? I'm downloading it now from sammobile and i was wondering if flashing anything through Odin would cause problems.
Lastly, is there a way to backup my EFs before rooting? I can't find them through the default file explorer and the folder is empty in 3rd party ones. I can't seem to find them when i go through my phone on my computer, i just want a backup before i try to root.
Anyway, vital phone info:
Model: GT-I9300T
Version: 4.3
Sorry for the long post, but any help would be cool. Also, i'm not that good with all the technical things behind rooting such as CSCs, basebands and such, so any simple explanation would be nice
Thank you! :fingers-crossed:
Good morning
Dont worry about knox
There no knox for S3 now matter what variant
Now secondly.
U can flash everything from i9300 on your i9300t however its advisable that when u flash roms that u maintain or re-flash afterwards the appropriate modem
As the only difference between models is the band frequency
To root it ... For myself the easyest way is ...
Grab philz recovery
Flash it with Odin
Afterward boot into recovery
Go to advanced and choose re-root system
Then just boot the ROM go to market and download supersu you're good to go
About backup efs there's a loooooot of apps to do so u just need the pick the one who's flavour suit u best
Take care
If u have doubts just pm me

I just rooted my phone using Cf auto root. I forgot the warranty was expired so why not It ended up working, now running CyanogenMod 11 nightly About the modem, the reception seems the same. The signal i got before I rooted wasn't that great, haha. But i'll probably flash the modem anyway, just in case. I found a thread with most of the modems for the s3 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-galaxy-s3-modem-radio-collection-t1740061
All the modems are for jellybean, however the ROM i'm on ( CyanogenMod 11 ) is on kitkat. Can i flash any of those modems? For the T model, they say there's no regional or carrier specific one, even though i checked my modem on sammobile and it's not listed in the thread. The latest one is for 4.1.2, i'm on 4.4.2. Should i flash it? Also, can you flash it in CWM, or does it have to be through Odin?
Edit: Seeing as you're a fellow S3 user, have you experienced any lag or freezing with your phone? It happened quite a lot pre root, but i just thought it was due to the bloatware. And Touchwiz, haha. But it's happening with CyanogenMod 11 as well. I know that it's a nightly and that bugs are to be expected however i have an S2 running CyanogenMod 11 as well, and there's nowhere near as much lag. Any ideas? I reset the phone and re installed the ROM twice, mainly because i forgot to flash Gapps XD Any ideas? Should i do a full factory reset, free up some space? I know that there's 2gb left on both the phone and my SD card.
Anyway, thanks for all of your help so far!

If u flashed cm u have retained same modem so no need to update modem
Just leave it be.
About lag no my phone runs just good no matter what aosp or recent stock rom
Check your kernel config or go for a custom one a and set him up to what suits u best.
I use agni kernel on cm alongside with a optimised profile
And even with a UV of CPU and GPU my phone runs real smooth and saves juice

Im currently running foxhound 2.4 on S# GT-i9300 with siyah kernel and i want to flash slimkat 4.4.2 build 3. i was just wondering if siyah kernel will get in the way of the flashing. Will i need to flash stock kernel then flash slimkat/gapps or does slimkat have install its own kernel in which case i guess i should just flash normally.

I think you should probably full wipe before flashing another rom. Then you should be good to go to flash slimkat and gapps.

SD Issues ? backwards "u"
My Wife is on her 2nd SD card with the same issues. I copy all of her pics and some videos from her move them to the Sd card. When going into my files it says there is 500+gbs on it! The file path extsdcard/Android has 467 gbs and 471 folders. Then there is a data folder but the D in data is a backwards u then ata. This folder says it is 467gbs with all folders named with crazy looking characters. I did try and search forums but could not find where to post and didn't want to get yelled at by the "Geniuses" on here for posting in the wrong place or not searching well enough. So if u could please get me to the right place it would be much appreciated. All the files are pics and vids of kids and thankfully we have auto backup in with google otherwise it seems we would lose all photos and vids. Thanks. Please see attached pics for reference
S3 4.0.4 stock rom
I had installed android 4.3 on s3 but then I installed 4.0.4 after that I had no gsm connectivity see the block sign between battery and wifi. I have gsm connectivity on 4.3 but not on 4.0.4. A guy told me that it has something to do with the bootloader. I wish to install 4.0.4 stock ICS BTU rom if there's a way do tell me. Thanks in anticipation!
i am using GlamourS4 5.0 rom and googy max2 kernel
the first problem i have is when i pressed the emergency call button on the lockscreen,
it did show anything such as the keyboard and the signal will stop a few seconds and come back.
second, i found the nfc not working anymore in my phone.
the nfc and s beam tag are greyed when i try to turn them on.
can anyone can solve my problems?
Anyone for my weird Network problem...?
I recently rooted my S3 via the CF Root method. Flashed CWM Recovery 6.0.4.4 via Odin.
That's it.
And now this weird problem-
My network is lost anytime! And the phone even doesn't say "Not registered on network" or something like that!
My phone was working properly and suddenly a friend of mine messaged me that he tried calling me but it said that my phone was switched off! I also noticed that at time even the data connection was not working. NO! It's not that it didn't show it isn't connected to the network or the data is disabled! The signal in the status bar was of 4 bars as it is and there was this symbol of 3G beside it. I tried calling my friend but the call got cancelled! I redialed, I didn't hear anything and then again the vibration saying the call was cancelled! I called up on my S3 through my landline number which also said that it was switched off -but not immediately. Whenever someone called me, they didn't hear anything for a long time of a minute or two and THEN it said that my mobile was switched off. I tried selecting my network operator manually, it said 'Registered on Network' but still I couldn't receive or make calls or use my internet data. But I could always send or receive SMSs!! It means it was connected to my network. The only solution was to reboot the phone after which it worked fine for a few hours. FOR FEW HOURS ONLY!
Now it happens at least 2-3 times per day and it has been important for me to check whether the data connection actually working and I'm able to access the internet or not because that's the only way to find whether someone can call me or not!
How do I fix this? I'm having my exams now and I don't have time to setup my phone again by changing ROMs!
Please tell me a way to fix this without changing my ROM!
I'm on Android 4.3 Stock ROM.

Could be to do with the EFS partition. 4.3 uses a different version and apparently problems can occur when trying to revert to an earlier version. As far as I have read elsewhere, the problem can be verified by checking the IMEI number in settings - if it is all zeros it has been corrupted and will cause what you describe. I'm afraid I don't have a solution but hopefully this info might help you move a bit closer to one.
Another SlimKat question. According to battery stats, it seems that my wi-fi is always on. I've used 3g only since last charge and wi-fi is off in settings. Can it be helped somehow? Screenshot attached.
Device: Galaxy S3 GT-I9300

So I found a CM 12 build on another site (originally for I9200) that I wanted to test on my Sprint Mega 6.3. I have it loaded and the basic functions are working and this thing is SMOOTH. Here are the issues I'm running into:
-screen rotation, have the screen locked in portrait to stabilize
-reads "NO SIM - SPRINT' on lock screen
-had to access secret phone menu to switch data to LTE/CDMA mode to gain data access
-can receive texts and calls, but cannot SMS text or call out
-CAN send MMS (texts with photo attachments)
after testing this, i decided to wipe and restore my rooted stock version of 4.4.2 and lost my data completely. Tried to ODIN stock firmware back on and still no effect.
First, does anyone have and suggestions to get these CM12 issues straightened out? I'm not expecting so as this is a really new and buggy build.
Also, any suggestions for the data loss in the stock build? Maybe if someone has the modem file i can ODIN to my phone that would be appreciated
If you want these questions answered effectively, just go to that site and ask Silesh directly.

I'm hesitant to ask him dirrctly. Its my understanding he is trying to avoid a lot of noobs following him from board to board bothering him personally.
I'm in the same boat, but different luggage. In the end, I needed odin, I'm stuck in Samsung logo boot loop. I've tried numerous ways of odin, pitting, NJ, and NE but after every successful flash I get looped. If you find a solution please share, and for thought maybe the lollipop will fix it during the flash as it will upgrade the tripped SECURE knoxed bootloader; Never had this issue specifically but my phone snuck in NJ1 update while I was rooted. How did it update and not fail? As I was rooted with a custom recovery? Usually the phone halts whenever under those conditions and update wont go through. But this has to be the one time maybe when the phone did update, or halfway updated then boom got stuck. I have a guy im sending it to on ebay he has one of those tools that lets you set the device back to any firmware and its only 35$. But I want to see if lollipop will go through first.

I think this belongs to bug report and should be okay, as long as you post nicely.
The big question is, does CM12 support L600 at this moment? I'm not so sure about this, as I've never seen an AOSP custom ROM that fully supports L600 yet.

Great ROM but not microphone mute during call
Hello !
First of all, thank you very much for that ROM, it works pretty well, it is very fast and stable !
I waited for a long time before unlocking and flashing a new ROM to my phone, and I am not disappointed I picked that ROM !
I just have 1 thing that do not work as expected, and which (to me) is a problem : I cannot mute my microphone during a phone call. When I use the mute button, it does not mute (even though the button indicates that mute is turned on). Do you also have the same problem ?
I found a few places where some people are talking about how the method used to mute the microphone does not work on some devices : (I can't type in the URL because I do not have enough posts on the forum, but you can easily find with a google search about : "android microphone mute" )
Could it be related ?
I even tried to download an app from the Play Store to try to mute the microphone through that app, but it did not work as well (the name of the app is Microphone Guard (Mute&Block) )
Thank you !
Mute microphone works with Skype
Today I installed Skype and tested the mute microphone feature of Skype.
This works well during a Skype call.
I do not know how much it differs from a usual phone call, but it tends to indicate that muting the microphone works on that ROM, but it does not work for actual phone calls.
Has somebody an idea on how to fix this ?

Well, actually I find this ROM to be far more stable that the stock GB.
And unfortunately, I need to be on android 4.0 + to get some applications working, so apart from this issue with mute, the rest is very good !
As for getting another smartphone ... yes I have been thinking about it, but honestly, most of nowadays smartphones have nothing really new compared to the one from 3 or 4 years ago ...
They are just bigger (which I do not really like) and more powerful which might be interesting if you play on your phone.
And the smaller ones most of the time do not have external SD cards.
Until smartphones came out, I was getting a new phone every 5 - 6 years , so doing the same with smartphone should be doable ... especially when you see the price
So as long as I can survive with my "old" smartphone, I'll try to stick with it
I just wanted to know if somebody else experienced the same problem with microphone mute (and maybe had a fix ?) as I did not read about it in the main topic for this ROM.
I am having issues getting this to install. I am coming from NOTTACHTRIX 4G (v2.3.0) Updated May 12, 2013.
I boot into CWM and factory reset, then wipe cache, then wipe davike, then I install the rom. I reboot and wait wait wait. 40 minutes and nothing but CyanagenMOD boot screen.

Hi readyfordeals !
I had the same issue the first time. In my case it turned out that my external SD card was partitioned and apparently the ROM did not like that.
To fix it, I deleted all partitions on my SD card and just recreated (and formatted) one, and then it worked.
I have the same issue I cannot install. Bit I have no external SD card at all.
Any ideas?

You must post your issue in the correct thread. This thread has nothing to do with rooting. As i told you in another thread, find the instructions and follow them. If you keep spamming threads, i will report you.

I have bought Atrix 4g last week in german shop with
froyo 2.2.2 installed , but i can not understand if the
the rooting method to follow depends only on the version of Android or
must be considered also the firmware version.

wifi Tether OK
Now it's working for me in France.
Thanks all this good job, I 'd hope the same stable version on Kitkat but...
So I did a quick search on the forums here, and in google, regarding this issue I'm having. When using stock LG software, NFC worked perfectly. Now, every time I get my NFC card near my reader, it tries to read it for a second and fails immediately. I was wondering if this is a known problem, or if my device is abnormal here. Tried Lineage 16, Havoc and currently I'm on POSP. All have the same problem.
Sorry if this has been asked already and answered, couldn't find anything in the forum typing "nfc" in search.
Same here
Any solution to this?
You're running an AOSP Rom? Pie?
Why not ask in the forum for that specific rom? I think this forum is more for stock or some variation of the stock rom. As you say, the stock worked 'perfectly'. I don't think people in this forum will have specific answers for an AOSP rom?
