[Q] SPH-L600 & CM12 testing issues - Samsung Galaxy Mega

So I found a CM 12 build on another site (originally for I9200) that I wanted to test on my Sprint Mega 6.3. I have it loaded and the basic functions are working and this thing is SMOOTH. Here are the issues I'm running into:
-screen rotation, have the screen locked in portrait to stabilize
-reads "NO SIM - SPRINT' on lock screen
-had to access secret phone menu to switch data to LTE/CDMA mode to gain data access
-can receive texts and calls, but cannot SMS text or call out
-CAN send MMS (texts with photo attachments)
after testing this, i decided to wipe and restore my rooted stock version of 4.4.2 and lost my data completely. Tried to ODIN stock firmware back on and still no effect.
First, does anyone have and suggestions to get these CM12 issues straightened out? I'm not expecting so as this is a really new and buggy build.
Also, any suggestions for the data loss in the stock build? Maybe if someone has the modem file i can ODIN to my phone that would be appreciated

If you want these questions answered effectively, just go to that site and ask Silesh directly.

I'm hesitant to ask him dirrctly. Its my understanding he is trying to avoid a lot of noobs following him from board to board bothering him personally.

I'm in the same boat, but different luggage. In the end, I needed odin, I'm stuck in Samsung logo boot loop. I've tried numerous ways of odin, pitting, NJ, and NE but after every successful flash I get looped. If you find a solution please share, and for thought maybe the lollipop will fix it during the flash as it will upgrade the tripped SECURE knoxed bootloader; Never had this issue specifically but my phone snuck in NJ1 update while I was rooted. How did it update and not fail? As I was rooted with a custom recovery? Usually the phone halts whenever under those conditions and update wont go through. But this has to be the one time maybe when the phone did update, or halfway updated then boom got stuck. I have a guy im sending it to on ebay he has one of those tools that lets you set the device back to any firmware and its only 35$. But I want to see if lollipop will go through first.

I think this belongs to bug report and should be okay, as long as you post nicely.
The big question is, does CM12 support L600 at this moment? I'm not so sure about this, as I've never seen an AOSP custom ROM that fully supports L600 yet.

Not natively, no. But I've had success using CM11 for the I9205 and with minor tweaks, had it working. Thought I'd have similar luck with this version

[HELP THREAD] Galaxy S3 Ask any question.

There are a lot of people joining xda on daily basis, and there are a lot of repetitive questions being asked which fill up Development threads. Point them here. Feel free to ask or answer questions. Idea of this thread is to get users to help other users with their problems/questions. Please do not spoon feed, but rather point in the direction where that user can find an answer and educate himself
I don't actually have the GS3 unfortunately, but in order to make XDA a better place, I thought I'd open up a help thread for those who need it. I won't be able to give S3 specific help, but I can help in terms of general questions. Hopefully some of the experienced S3 help out on this thread, because it'd make everything easier. Thanks!
First thing first. I strongly advise you to read THIS thread before posting ANYTHING on XDA.
Then, have a quick look at the names of threads in post no2, you might find what you need right away.
For ROM issues please do mention in your post about:
ROM name
ROM version and base
kernel version and its settings
any mods applied on top of it
flashing "style" aka dirty or clean
something like this
...and be sure you have asked before on the ROM thread unless you have less than 10 posts on XDA
Third. Even if you do get your question answered, please, do come back and read threads in post no2 (coming later as soon as we start getting the guides) to educate yourself. You'll be surprised how much time and frustration it will save you in the future.
ASK ANY QUESTION HERE,adb, drivers, superCID etc...... You will either get an answer or will get pointed in the right direction.
No abuse towards noobs tolerated here! No question is stupid in this thread.
***I feel that a little OT is healthy to the success of this type of thread. The people here who help the most will develop a comradery therefore OT is allowed within reason. Common sense will be applied ***
HALL OF FAME
People who contributed most to this thread and helped countless number of people with their problems/questions. In no particular order.
Currently none. Hopefully soon.

Good job!
Stuck
Hey guys, i'm sort of a noob on these forums so any help would be great!
I've had previous experience with rooting because of my S2, no problems at all. I got my s3 about a month ago and I've been trying to figure out how to root it. It's a GT-I9300T ( Australian model ). It has a lot of Vodafone bloatware, however it's unlocked as i'm using an Optus sim card. I've also read that there aren't many differences between the international model and the T model, so any international ROM should work fine. It's running 4.3. I've read about how KNOX is built into 4.3 and makes rooting difficult by blocking the installation of custom Roms and disabling superSu. I'm not sure if i have Knox though, because i don't have a KNOX app installed; there are no KNOX related apps installed on my phone ( according to the all section of my applications manager ) and it says nothing about the KNOX counter in download mode. Is KNOX still present on my phone, and will i be able to install customs roms?
Also, what would be the best method of rooting? I have tried the saferoot method by Mrw0lf on YouTube, which is made not to trigger Knox. I've read about CF root and other methods involving Odin, have not tried any yet because i'm scared of bricking my phone. Any help or link would be helpful. Also, if something goes wrong; would i be able to flash a stock 4.3 ROM onto my phone using Odin? I'm downloading it now from sammobile and i was wondering if flashing anything through Odin would cause problems.
Lastly, is there a way to backup my EFs before rooting? I can't find them through the default file explorer and the folder is empty in 3rd party ones. I can't seem to find them when i go through my phone on my computer, i just want a backup before i try to root.
Anyway, vital phone info:
Model: GT-I9300T
Version: 4.3
Sorry for the long post, but any help would be cool. Also, i'm not that good with all the technical things behind rooting such as CSCs, basebands and such, so any simple explanation would be nice
Thank you! :fingers-crossed:
Good morning
Dont worry about knox
There no knox for S3 now matter what variant
Now secondly.
U can flash everything from i9300 on your i9300t however its advisable that when u flash roms that u maintain or re-flash afterwards the appropriate modem
As the only difference between models is the band frequency
To root it ... For myself the easyest way is ...
Grab philz recovery
Flash it with Odin
Afterward boot into recovery
Go to advanced and choose re-root system
Then just boot the ROM go to market and download supersu you're good to go
About backup efs there's a loooooot of apps to do so u just need the pick the one who's flavour suit u best
Take care
If u have doubts just pm me

I just rooted my phone using Cf auto root. I forgot the warranty was expired so why not It ended up working, now running CyanogenMod 11 nightly About the modem, the reception seems the same. The signal i got before I rooted wasn't that great, haha. But i'll probably flash the modem anyway, just in case. I found a thread with most of the modems for the s3 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-galaxy-s3-modem-radio-collection-t1740061
All the modems are for jellybean, however the ROM i'm on ( CyanogenMod 11 ) is on kitkat. Can i flash any of those modems? For the T model, they say there's no regional or carrier specific one, even though i checked my modem on sammobile and it's not listed in the thread. The latest one is for 4.1.2, i'm on 4.4.2. Should i flash it? Also, can you flash it in CWM, or does it have to be through Odin?
Edit: Seeing as you're a fellow S3 user, have you experienced any lag or freezing with your phone? It happened quite a lot pre root, but i just thought it was due to the bloatware. And Touchwiz, haha. But it's happening with CyanogenMod 11 as well. I know that it's a nightly and that bugs are to be expected however i have an S2 running CyanogenMod 11 as well, and there's nowhere near as much lag. Any ideas? I reset the phone and re installed the ROM twice, mainly because i forgot to flash Gapps XD Any ideas? Should i do a full factory reset, free up some space? I know that there's 2gb left on both the phone and my SD card.
Anyway, thanks for all of your help so far!

If u flashed cm u have retained same modem so no need to update modem
Just leave it be.
About lag no my phone runs just good no matter what aosp or recent stock rom
Check your kernel config or go for a custom one a and set him up to what suits u best.
I use agni kernel on cm alongside with a optimised profile
And even with a UV of CPU and GPU my phone runs real smooth and saves juice

ive got experience with flashing custom roms and know how to do it but im quite paranoid which is why i have this question. Im currently running foxhound 2.4 on S# GT-i9300 with siyah kernel and i want to flash slimkat 4.4.2 build 3. i was just wondering if siyah kernel will get in the way of the flashing. Will i need to flash stock kernel then flash slimkat/gapps or does slimkat have install its own kernel in which case i guess i should just flash normally.

I think you should probably full wipe before flashing another rom. Then you should be good to go to flash slimkat and gapps.

SD Issues ? backwards "u"
My Wife is on her 2nd SD card with the same issues. I copy all of her pics and some videos from her move them to the Sd card. When going into my files it says there is 500+gbs on it! The file path extsdcard/Android has 467 gbs and 471 folders. Then there is a data folder but the D in data is a backwards u then ata. This folder says it is 467gbs with all folders named with crazy looking characters. I did try and search forums but could not find where to post and didn't want to get yelled at by the "Geniuses" on here for posting in the wrong place or not searching well enough. So if u could please get me to the right place it would be much appreciated. All the files are pics and vids of kids and thankfully we have auto backup in with google otherwise it seems we would lose all photos and vids. Thanks. Please see attached pics for reference
S3 4.0.4 stock rom
I had installed android 4.3 on s3 but then I installed 4.0.4 after that I had no gsm connectivity see the block sign between battery and wifi. I have gsm connectivity on 4.3 but not on 4.0.4. A guy told me that it has something to do with the bootloader. I wish to install 4.0.4 stock ICS BTU rom if there's a way do tell me. Thanks in anticipation!
i am using GlamourS4 5.0 rom and googy max2 kernel
the first problem i have is when i pressed the emergency call button on the lockscreen,
it did show anything such as the keyboard and the signal will stop a few seconds and come back.
second, i found the nfc not working anymore in my phone.
the nfc and s beam tag are greyed when i try to turn them on.
can anyone can solve my problems?
Anyone for my weird Network problem...?
I recently rooted my S3 via the CF Root method. Flashed CWM Recovery 6.0.4.4 via Odin.
That's it.
And now this weird problem-
My network is lost anytime! And the phone even doesn't say "Not registered on network" or something like that!
My phone was working properly and suddenly a friend of mine messaged me that he tried calling me but it said that my phone was switched off! I also noticed that at time even the data connection was not working. NO! It's not that it didn't show it isn't connected to the network or the data is disabled! The signal in the status bar was of 4 bars as it is and there was this symbol of 3G beside it. I tried calling my friend but the call got cancelled! I redialed, I didn't hear anything and then again the vibration saying the call was cancelled! I called up on my S3 through my landline number which also said that it was switched off -but not immediately. Whenever someone called me, they didn't hear anything for a long time of a minute or two and THEN it said that my mobile was switched off. I tried selecting my network operator manually, it said 'Registered on Network' but still I couldn't receive or make calls or use my internet data. But I could always send or receive SMSs!! It means it was connected to my network. The only solution was to reboot the phone after which it worked fine for a few hours. FOR FEW HOURS ONLY!
Now it happens at least 2-3 times per day and it has been important for me to check whether the data connection actually working and I'm able to access the internet or not because that's the only way to find whether someone can call me or not!
How do I fix this? I'm having my exams now and I don't have time to setup my phone again by changing ROMs!
Please tell me a way to fix this without changing my ROM!
I'm on Android 4.3 Stock ROM.

Could be to do with the EFS partition. 4.3 uses a different version and apparently problems can occur when trying to revert to an earlier version. As far as I have read elsewhere, the problem can be verified by checking the IMEI number in settings - if it is all zeros it has been corrupted and will cause what you describe. I'm afraid I don't have a solution but hopefully this info might help you move a bit closer to one.
Another SlimKat question. According to battery stats, it seems that my wi-fi is always on. I've used 3g only since last charge and wi-fi is off in settings. Can it be helped somehow? Screenshot attached.

Hi am from India, after flash the radio cwm attjb to my e970 it seems our GSM sims not taking. It shows a no sim error. Further when I use .54 radio the sim works but weak signal. Any help guys.
Hi, do you have any old EFS files from when it worked normally? I think restoring those can help with radio problems, I'm not sure though, never had an issue with that on my phone
I'll google more about it now and come back
EDIT: So your problem MAY be a corrupted EFS partition, unless flashing different radios doesn't touch that partition, or does it?
I don't know much about this topic but I would still like to help you any way I can

CM11 M10 build
Installed the M10. Started getting the com.android.systemui stopped messages continuously which made the phone useless. So using the CM updater, installed the latest nightly at that time (which was Nov 3). Everything seems to work OK. However, once its out of the wifi range, my wife reported that she didn't have ANY data connection even though the phone showed 4+ bars. Same with phone calls. Restored back to the stock rom (4.1.2) using TWRP, thankfully backed up the entire phone prior to CM11. I didn't do any radio updates as some of the posts here indicated.
Any suggestions? Which build of CM11 should I be using? Seems to be hit or miss.
Thanks

I have stock root does it a problem ? should i remove root? if so how i do that?
I need to make stock bootloader and all that stuff?
Last question, when AT&T will release the android lolipop 5 ?

I hesitate to answer this because so much is already in posts and threads....
1. AT&T has released the 4.4.4 OTA already
2. I don't know why you can't see it. Are you using an AT&T SIM card? Are you logged onto the AT&T network?
3. Root doesn't matter, but a stock recovery is required to actually install the update (but not to download it)
4. Stock bootloader isn't required. I don't know if it needs to be locked or not (probably not - just guessing).
5. Please contact AT&T for the answer to your version 5 update question.

If you're not using an AT&T SIM card or on the AT&T network, you will not be able to receive an update from AT&T. I'm not sure how you thought that might happen.
Please search this XDA forum on how to install a recovery (stock or otherwise). There are LOTS of threads on this. And if you don't know what it is, you probably shouldn't be mucking around with your phone yet. Read as much as possible first - If you don't, you'll be asking how to unbrick your phone.

OK - here's the scoop:
1. If you've put an Orange SIM card into your unlocked HTC One M8 (AT&T branded), it is an Orange device now. AT&T is just a label on the phone (logo on the lower back of the device).
2. If Orange Israel releases an update, you will most likely get it. Both T-Mobile and AT&T released updates about a month ago, which is why your brother got the update on T-Mobile.
3. You can still update your M8 to version 4.4.4 - but you'll need to ensure you have the proper firmware installed or you'll have problems. Version 4.4.4 has a different data structure than 4.4.2.
Again - read up on the general and Q/A threads on this forum. You can get your device updated to whatever version you want, it's just a matter of reading.

Question - is the ROM on your phone from AT&T or from Orange, or was it flashed from some other source? The ROM is specific to a device, not a carrier, so you SHOULD be able to flash the ROM of your choice, as long as it works with the device (but keep in mind the fact that you will need a ROM for the GSM version of the M8, as opposed to, say, a Verizon or Sprint variant).
If it's from AT&T, you may be able to apply the updates from saved OTA file (not sure how to apply, but it can be done).

I flashed Viper 3.2.1, and it worked nicely. Make sure to update your firmware before installing.
I also tried an L version 5 ROM, but didn't like the fact that it didn't work with Xposed modules, which I like and use.

These points are not correct. Yes, the phone is being run on the OP's local network Orange (not AT&T). But the phone will only receive and be able to install an Orange OTA if its on Orange software and Orange CID/MID. If its running AT&T software, it will not receive OTA is most foreign countries. AT&T is the oddball here, as most other variants will still update on other networks. AT&T devices must be connected to the AT&T network to get official OTA.
The way to update the device by official means (when not on AT&T's network) would be the AT&T RUU.

If you don't want such headaches, don't buy carrier branded US devices for use in other countries. I strongly believe this.

You didn't "almost brick" the device. A brick means that you phone is totally inoperable to the point the screen doesn't even power on; and the only way to recover is by opening the phone and JTAG or replacing the mainboard.
You probably just put the phone in a condition where it would not boot; which is a fairly common issue that crops up for just about anyone modding phones, at one time or another. And how to recover from such conditions is pretty basic info; and something anyone who is modding phones should now how to do.
I'm sorry if any of this seems harsh. But I believe the above to be more FACT than opinion, and for your own good. I agree with the former notions that you (and anyone who want to mod the hone) should always research thoroughly and understand before messing with the phone.

God knows. There is never any firm release date for AT&T (one of the many reasons to avoid US carrier branded devices if you are in another country). They just released 4.4.4 a couple weeks ago. It was delayed for months due to issues implementing Voice Over LTE. Hopefully, the LP update won't suffer the same length of delay.

Since there is no LP stock ROM or "official" firmware for AT&T, you won't be able to run Sense LP at this time unless you have s-off (and can then update the firmware by "unofficial" means).
You can however flash a Lollipop GPE or AOSP ROM, but you will still likely need to update to at least Android 4.4.4 to get a firmware and/or hboot that supports the specific ROM.
Battery and performance are always going to vary from one user to the next. Variables such as how one uses the phones; and especially your local reception will greatly impact battery life. There is never going to be one ROM that has "strong" battery for every user in every situation. Your best bet is to try the ROMs out, and see what works best for your situation.

RUU = ROM update utility. Its an official .exe (Windows PC required) that completely re-images the phone, including stock ROM, stock recovery and all firmware.
If this is the path you choose, its pretty simple:
Download the RUU to your PC.
Backup any personal data, as the phone will be wiped by RUU.
Connect the phone to PC in fastboot mode.
Relock the bootloader with command fastboot oem lock (not required with s-off).
Simply run the RUU .exe, and it will do the rest (you click a few confirmations dialogs, but that is it).
RUU and more detailed instructions at the following link, under "Manual system update instructions": http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-att/news/
As RUU installs stock recovery, you will need to unlock the bootloader again, and flash custom recovery again if you want to root or flash custom ROMs.

Which ROM do you think the best. I'm thinking about ViperOne 3.2.1 , Android Revolution hd 34.0 or CM 12 .
I really like the design of the CM12 but i heard that the boomsound ain't works, is that true? that's means the quality of the speakers will be very bad?

I don't believe in recommending "best" ROMs. What's best for me, may no be the best for you. Especially since our network requirements are very different. And the choice of ROM is also largely a matter of personal preference and taste. In fact, until recently the XDA rules did not allow posting of "best ROM" threads as the discussions are largely irrelevant, and just resulted in fanboy pissing contests.
You really can't go wrong with any of the mentioned ROMs.
Although be aware that current ARHD is based on Android 5.0. So you need to update to Lollipop firmware or else suffer major bugs (broken WiFi is the most common). For the AT&T version of this phone, you can only update to LP firmware if you have s-off (until a LP is released by AT&T, for you by RUU).
Yes, any features that require Sense framework will not be present on CM12, including Boomsound and dual camera. Whether the sound is "bad" or not, I can't say. I'm not a CM12 user. But remember that Boomsound is just a software enhancement. The high quality of the speakers (for a smartphone) is largely a factor in the sound quality. If you like CM12 design, why not flash it (once on the proper hboot) and see for yourself what you think?

The RUU file isn't open. I boot into bootloader and type the command but then this says something failed and reboot my device. Then i boot into fastboot again and i saw its says relocked so i guess that's ok.
Fine, tried to plug into my PC while the phone is awake and open, the file can't seems to open, not even when i plug it while im in the bootloader.
did i do something wrong?

Make sure you have HTC drivers installed on your PC. Phone should be connected in in fastboot mode.
If the RUU application doesn't even open, it doesn't sound like an issue with the phone. Even if there was an issue with the phone (wrong RUU , unlocked bootloader, etc.) the RUU would still open and start to run, but it would just give you an error message telling you what was wrong. Maybe just a bad download, try to download again.

You can't upgrade if you're rooted, you'll have to flash a KDZ back to 12b and update from there. Opinions will vary, but i was rooted and xposed on 4.4.2, when i upgraded to 5.0 it took me about an hour to flash my KDZ back to 12b because i was unhappy with it overall. You can root 5.0 and their is a very alpha version of xposed out that needs to be flashed from a recovery and only about 30 modules or so at this point that are working. Sorry I can supply anymore info but this may help bump attention to get the rest of your answers.
One last note is if you dont mind the factory resets, and if you go with a KDZ, once everythings set up it takes less than a few minutes to flash the KDZ from a computer with the phone in download mode, so if you're not happy you can jump back to 4.4.2 if you'd like.
Thanks, im wonder why you was unhappy for and thanks for the heads up. I dont mind factory reset my phone and the whole nine yards. But before i go and get android 5 i want to know how good or bad it is and hope it answers my questions
I also forgot one more question. Has xprivacy got an update that it fully works on android 5. Ever since i was told about it i loved it. I tried useing cm12 or 13 forgot what cm h3ld android 5. But i tried to install it and it notified me it didnt support lollipop if it dose i might be thinking of xsposed framework

Pardon my ignorance (I'm good with HTC and Samsung device terms, but not so much on LG), but what is KDZ and is there instructions for doing what you explain somewhere on XDA?
I only ask as my wife has a G3 with Verizon that is stock Kit Kat, rooted and bumped. I am interested in knowing how to get her phone on stock lollipop.

[Q] ROM Selection

Hi All,
Had my Verizon G3 for a bit now and everything was grand.... pre-lollipop. Post-Lollipop I've been stuck with the no notifications while on WiFi bug and for someone who spends literally 98% of my time on either my home or work WiFi this has simply become untenable for me. I'd like to root and go to, preferably, a Lollipop ROM that is not plagued by the same issues, or if I have to go back to KitKat then a ROM based on that (or perhaps there is a non-rooted solution here?).
All these things said, I've done the root/custom ROM thing back in the days of my Droid Incredible and honestly found it quite off putting to have to constantly keep up to date with ROM updates / Kernel updates / Radio updates, etc. and a lot of those even requiring wiping the phone.
My question to you fine folks is, has the game changed a bit to be a bit more friendly to like a kind of all-in-one here is your ROM/everything package, install it and get going type deal? Or is that still a pipe dream?
I appreciate that there are some steps involved prior to the installing of the ROM and I'm not opposed to those at all, I'm more worried about the nightmarish endless cycle of updates that require wipes / resets / etc. in order to fix the myriad of bugs that used to pop their heads up. I simply just want a ROM to get me through the next year or so until I can move along - and *gasp* allow me to get updates while on WiFi while having the core of the phone still functional.
Perhaps my concerns are those of days past, so please forgive my ignorance.
Any info on the topic and possible ROMs to look into (I was looking at Resurrection Remix) would be much appreciated.
Thanks! :good:

At this point, most any ROM you install will require updating. There are really no ROMs that are completely trouble free.
That said, running stock rooted may be your best choice. Rooting stock will allow you the option to block OTA updates. With root you will also be able to remove any pesky apps you do not require from LG.
Thanks for your insight. Perhaps I'll look at rooting and running a stock KitKat based ROM. If you could possibly point me in the direction of finding stock KitKat ROMs to flash to it would be much appreciated.
(sorry for posting in the wrong forum the first time)
Thanks
Jasmine 4.0 is a good 4.4 ROM. It can be found in the 7.0 thread. Just look in the first few posts. Sky dragon is also good.
Don't most roms have OTA's built in anymore? I had roms on my S4 and never had to worry, I would update and be fine, 0 wipes updating roms (Unless I was changing roms completely) and even then I have everything back up regularly so there is no hassle getting it all back.

I know some of the custom CM12 and CM12.1-based ROMs I've tried have a potentially working OTA method built into the ROM. For various reasons they're not all necessarily implemented just yet, though - probably because there's just too many constant updates to the source code to make OTAs realistic.

Very true. I do know though that CM does have OTAs. I think another part is that most CM 12 and 12.1 based roms don't change the source for the update. So you won't get any since it is no longer a CM rom and it isn't looking for the one you are using.
Stay off the nightly train and you won't have to update much at all. A dirty flash every couple of months, topped with some Gapps. I get notifications on wifi all the time. Only stock ROM tries to force you to update anyway.
