So this seems like a pretty basic thing, but I just wanna be sure I'm not missing anything. I ordered the LG G3 under my Dad's phone number and it should be coming tomorrow. He was on a different plan, but had an upgrade and agreed to trade me the upgrade for my S4. Now I currently have it rooted and I was just going to leave it that way with HD ROM installed. Now my question is, is there a proper way to deactivate and reactivate it? Or is it as simple as swapping SIM cards? Any info would be appreciated.. thanks guys!
When signed into your Verizon account just hit manage devices on the left hand side of the account homepage. The menu will have an option for switching devices on the same plan to different lines

Make sure you activate the LG G3 on his account *FIRST* with the SIM that came with the phone.
After that it's as easy as swapping the SIM.

No it should not be a problem if you go into the VZW store and explain the situation to them. Did you transfer the upgrade on her phone to your line? If so then you can do it from home but if you are using her upgrade from HER line, you need to visit VZW face to face.

Ok thanks, i have a VZW store right up town from me so ill check in 2moro. And no i didn't transfer the upgrade we just went and bought the phone. Im 16 so i did a bunch of research and this was the one thing i was unsure about. Also i've read that the SIM cards are very stubborn if they're not activated to the # they are assigned??? But yea thanks for the help man.
Make sure they connect the sim card to the right number for the upgrade. I opened a new line this morning and called Verizon to switch devices and they couldn't figure out why it wasn't switching, when they finally figured it out, I had to go into a VZW store again and it took them over an hour because it's so new.

Ok, so thats what im going to have to do then. Thanks a bunch guys, could i call the verizon Customer Service and have them do it over the phone? or does it have to be a new sim card programmed specifically for my number and they aren't programmable from a remote location? Sorry for so many questions after my original statement i just wanna find out what i can do. Thanks Again guys!
Hey guys. i have what will probably seem like a super noob question for everyone. I have only EVER been on CDMA networks, and only just started tmobile a year ago. and ive only had one phone there, so idk how these things work.
I want a Sony Xperia Z Ultra LTE (GPE or not, idc) but obviously it isnt sold by tmobile. since ive never had to deal with unlocked phones, i ask you all this:
If i buy one from someone on craigslist/ebay, is checking the serial number important like it is on CDMA networks? also, in order to activate my phone, i assume all i do is pop in the sim, but does that move my insurance and Tmobile JUMP plan over to the new device as well?
Sorry for noobing it up guys. lol any help is much appreciated.
First of all, this should be in the Q&A section.
Second, yes, check the IMEI number before you buy it, and the SIM should automatically be activated once you pop it in the Ultra. I can't give you an answer on the insurance part since i'm not american, so i don't know these things work over there.
I am not sure how important checking the imei number on this device would be since since is not a carrier branded device ( many do not even know this phone exists) . Now to the 2nd part: I believe your insurance and jump program will not transfer to the ultra because it is not sold by T-mobile and that program it is only effective with t-mobile branded hardware. My 2 cents. hope it helps. Thanks
Im not sure if this is where I should be asking this question but I have searched the threads and cant really find the answers Im looking for so here goes and Im going to run through my whole scenario. I have acct with verizon with 2 "dumb phones" on it. I am doing an AOL shortly to aquire a Unlimited data acct. I purchased a used Verizon Galaxy S4 a while back which I was going to switch to Straight talk but decided to get the Unlimited instead (no options where I live) so I have been basically using as a tablet since. When I first bought the phone I checked the MIED and ESN on line as well as if reported lost/stolen...all came up good. Then I called Verizon to check and was told it was good and clear. As I said I have been using for a bit as a tab while I figured what I was going to do. Now that I have found an Unlimited and will aquire it shortly I called Verizon again to make sure all is good and can just activate phone when I get other acct. They told me #s are good and clear but phone is still active on another acct. How can this be? I have had it for at least a few months...what can I do to clear this? Can I simply pop in the sim from the Unlimited acct I am getting or can I get a cheap 4G LTE phone, activate it and then pop sim in the S4? NEED SOME ADVICE HERE! Thanks.

Unless it's been reported lost/stolen you should be able to just put in the sim. When I bought a used S4 all I had to do was put in the sim from my older verizon lte phone and it switched over fine.

Im getting the unlimited acct..but right now I just have 2 basic lines on my acct. The other account Im doing an AOL on I am not getting the phone with but he said he will give me the Sim. What if they sell that phone or switch it to a different acct...will that kill that even if I have put it into another phone? Sorry, just new to switching all this stuff around.

Sims are tied to accounts, so if you're getting the account and the sim it should work in any clean verizon lte phone. I can't be 100% sure on that of course, but I'm fairly certain it will work fine.
I want to learn to root. I bought an unlocked Nexus One to try it on. But thought I'd ask if there's an easier phone to start with? Or is that one good? It's never been used. It's Android version 2.3.6. GSM... I have two phone numbers, Verizon unlimited grandfathered plan with a Samsung s5 & an AT&T Go Phone with a broken HTC One. I don't care which carrier I use & no problem to get another one if that's better. Any ideas? Bill

UP-DATE; I see there's a thread here titled 'What Phone Should I Get'... Would a moderator please move this to there? Thanks! Bill
I'm currently an AT&T customer but wanna buy a new phone and switch to Straight Talk.
Hey XDA,hows everybody's day going so far?
Ok, so I have a LG E980 on AT&T. Phone is showing age and the headphone jack is having a hard time connecting. Time for an upgrade.
So I wanna keep the same number but switch to Straight Talk. How does this work? Do I buy the unlocked one or the AT&T and bring my AT&T phone to Straight Talk?
I hope somebody can help me with this. Does anybody know how long it takes for a phone number to transfer to a different carrier?
Thanks in advance for helping me.

Ask straight talk if you can bring your phone to there service, should be able to I think? Yeah it's pretty easy to port number over. When you get service call straight talk customer care number and they will contact old carrier for you.

First of all chose the phone you want. As for AT&T version or US unlocked version (RS988), it will depend on if root and twrp is important to you or not. If you want TWRP and root, get the RS988 version (I recommend getting it from B&H photo) as it can be bootloader unlocked, rooted and install twrp. It also has all the network bands for AT&T, T-Mobile & Verizon. If you don't care about root you could do the AT&T version if you want. As far as transfering your service, it's pretty easy. Go to walmart (or where ever) and buy the Bring your own phone package (you can buy an AT&T sim from straight talk for the BYOP program as well and it's cheaper). Once you do that activate your service using the instructions for your new G5 and chose the option to port your number. Straight talk will need your AT&T account number and account password to transfer your service, but it usually is pretty quick that it transfers, unless you run into a problem.
