Stock or custom rom? - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys i rooted my phone but i cannot unlock the bootloader as it says NO, does that mean i cant try custom roms or kernels? is it better to stay stock or custom rom? Thanks and i have the candian bell version.

You can use custom roms based on stock firmwares, no custom kernels or cm based roms I'm afraid

So how would I know if it's based on stock firmware? Never had a sony before so basically I get twrp or clockwork recovery and install the rom?

It will state in the rom thread, romaur and monxified are both based on stock
Whichever rom you go with there will be instructions on how to load it on a locked bootloader in the first post

[Q] Will it be safe to flash stock rom with unlocked bootloader and custom kernel?

Hi guys,
I just wanna ask, when on a custom rom will it be safe to flash any stock rom (2.3.x or 4.0.x) with a custom kernel?
Will I have to flash the stock kernel too with the rom?
I have never tried but I think it's absolutely fine to do it. Go ahead and give it a try.

[Q] lock bootloader with custom rom or kernel

Is it possible to lock bootloader with custom rom/kernel?
You will able to use custom ROM if the ROM support stock kernel (Seems only MIUI at this moment).
For kernel, it's just not possible.
he can use customs roms, as well. However, if he encounters bootloops he need to flash stock kernel.
It's working for me.
It's not possible to flash CyanogenMod, as it's not based on stock kernel.
To flash custom kernel u need unlocked boot loader ....& u can use Roms which are based on stock kernel.

[Q] Kernel on stock rom

Can i flash a kernel on my stock rom ICS ? (i am using Live with walkman)
while installing a custom rom from the developers community can i install it on my stock kernel, is it neccesary to change the kernel ?
thanks for the help in advance
Yes you can install a kernel for stock ICS, just check out development section
And yes it's necessary to change if it's another android version or if the developer tells you in his thread to use a specific kernel

There are custom roms for locked bootloader (no need to flash a kernel) and there are roms for unlocked bootloader (you need to flash a kernel)
