I don't see the purpose in these. Now you'll have two sets.
So true, but in his defence maybe he's remapping the capacitive keys. I do remapping but don't use any on screen keys, I run full screen all the time.
My purpose is to disable the existing softkeys and enable on screen buttons.
Main aim is to get multitasking button and menu button along with back and home keys.
Currently using HTC one M8. But not so happy with the screen size downgrade from N3 to M8.
So bought Max and planning to make it more like M8 with sense six and on screen buttons.
Since the screen is wider I can afford to keep 4 buttons there.

I can relate to you rationale, similar thinking just go about it in a different way.
My running immersive mode exclusive and holding in left hand mostly, I've map the capacitive keys to volume up & down, (longs of TV viewing). My volume up is menu. Volume down is recent. Power is back-double click to home.

I use Gravity Box xposed module to enable immersive mode only.
Default the Back button and Home button, are now my default volume down and volume up respectfully., so when I have the phone on the side watching video easy to reach volume up & down.
Since I came to the Max I use proximity for screen on/off. (I was use to the w2w but not available currently on the Max)
Pm sent for a how to edit the Keylayout
Hi Jerrycycle,
Out of topic : do you by chance know how to disable the vibrator module itself of Max ? Via build.prop or some available custom kernel...
I don't use vibration and I cannot control vibration of HTC devices completely via settings option.
For example I can't disable it for :
1. Carrier sent messages in prepaid sim.
2. Disabling vibration feedback on call works with some numbers doesn't work with some numbers. It's flakey.

PM me. I have an idea.
What I would like is to have capacitive buttons to not work an turned off and only have Nav bar buttons. I would really like the pa phone layout options to like phone phablet and tablet set up

I think is possible to disable the capacitive button with edits to the keylayout, as for the phablet mode, I think (the with KitKat) Google removed the coding needed for it to work.

Doesn't work on T6UL international models !!!
There is no line with qemu on /system/build.prop file. Even if I introduce one, after reboot the line is removed !!!

Ok is there an other way or app that can wake the phone up from home button like the N7000.
I downloaded app NoLock and works excellent. Finally no lock slider.
But love To find a way to wake up the screen with a double tap. Or from.the led buttons.
Thanks

Widgetlocker gives you the option to wake using any hardware button, including volume. Don't think there's anything that will allow you wake just by tapping the screen or capacitive buttons.
If you're willing to shell out 2 or 3 bucks, WidgetLocker has an option to use other buttons to wake/unlock the screen. I'm not sure about the customizability of it, or if it would be what you're looking for, but I'm pretty sure from my experience with it that it works on the volume rocker and possibly one of the capacitive buttons. I don't remember which capacitive button it is, or if it would work on the Note, because I used it previously on my Infuse, but not recently. Worth a shot, I'm pretty sure at least the volume rocker would work.
NoLED wakes the Note via the Home button. You can also double tap the screen to wake it.

i tried it but only wakes up on the power key .
it does unlock on search or home key but does not wake up .
"Tap tap app" allows you to tap the proximity sensor to wake the phone.

Did you set Easy Wake Mode?
Widgetlocker->Settings->Buttons & Inputs->Easy Wake Mode?

Mine wake up also if i hit the volume buttons. Not sure why
With Tap Tap App set it to "never off the sensor", "tap tap" and "easy detection."
Doesn't always work. I think the sensor is deactivated anyway, probably in deep sleep...

Interesting options, any noticeable battery hit with any of these?
No Lock
I use No Led and No Lock , works great for now ! battery life is fine
Can someone confirm if it's possible to change the track with the volume keys while the screen is turned off.
I can currently do this with my nexus 1 running cm7
Thanks

Nope. You can't. Volume keys are for volume up/down purpose only. But you can swipe the clock in the lock screen to get the music player widget, where you can change tracks.
Well it may be adjustable with CM when it comes out for the S, so I wouldn't give up hope. It's just not available in stock .
I don't get why OEMs make this a part of the stock firmware. Its a very useful feature especially when listening to spotify.

Like the old Sony Ericsson Walkman phone's.
Hold up for next and down for previous.
It would be very usefull.
Is there any possibility to do this? it is pretty inconvenient to use the touchscreen to make pictures and it would be nice if the hardware buttons can be used for making pics.
i want this too, i miss real buttons! i wish handsets all had a row of generic configurable buttons like WM devices of yore.

In ics it lets you configure a volume button so once it drops that will change. Can also use camera fx for time being.
My search button is my shutter control.
By default I leave my phone on silent but with vibrate on. However there are times, for example during school when I put my phone of the desk, where I need the vibration to not happen either.
This is my first smartphone -- my last phone, the wonderful LG Xenon, could do this easily.. It started at volume 7/7 and as I hit the side volume button, it went down to 6, 5, etc, to 1, to Silent + vibrate, to Silent w/o vibrate. On my Samsung Galaxy 2 I have to go in the settings to change the vibrate? Seems a little harsh..
Does anyone know of a way to change it to work as mentioned above? Is there a plug-in (not an actual app please) to make it as simple as that?
Thanks
I use CM9 and I have added the sound icon to my power widget bar (the shortcuts you see once you pull the notification bar). In settings I can choose how I want the sound button to cycle through different options - so you can set it to whatever you want including silence and vibrate only etc.)
We really need to know what ROM you're using. On AOKP it works just like you said, the buttons on the side work like this: High volume -> Low volume -> Vibrate -> Silent
It sounds like you may be running Stock (Factory) ROM. I haven't used that in forever but if that's what you're on, I would highly recommend moving to one of the wonderful ICS roms here in the forums.
I don't use vibrate mode, either silent or normal ringing.
I haven't rooted my phone yet. It seems like a lot of work/learning for too little of a payoff (not saying it doesnt open up a lot of features, just not a whole lot that I'D use). So i guess I'm running the stock/factory ROM, but I'm using GO Launcher
This works via the volume rocker in aokp. Hold volume - until its on vibrate. Press volume - again to turn off vibrate.

On my stock 2.3.4 w/Entropy's DD kernel, it's High volume -> Low Volume -> Vibrate. No silent mode with the buttons.
I put mine on vibrate when it's in my pocket.

That would be because he said it works via the volume rocker in AOKP ROM. Thats Android Open Kang Project. A ROM here in the development forums. Not stock. I'm not sure if there is an app to do what u want. But in either case, I highly suggest u root your phone (its very easy now adayz) and flash a custom ROM. I would suggest AOKP of course. The benefits far outweigh the risk my friend. Good luck and happy flashing.

Since you're using go launcher try checking out the Go Switch Widget. I know you said you'd prefer not to use any extra apps but its really a plugin for the launcher you already use. It has a button option for turning on the sound as well as a separate vibrate button. Its also customizable so you can choose just the vibrate button so the widget would be small and not take up much of your screen space.
Hope that's helps
With Stock ROM, in Settings/Sound/Vibration/ select"Only when not in silent mode". Will not vibrate when Silent selected with rocker. Not option for silent+vibrate in addition to silent only.

Ah!! Ive been using this widget already for individual brightness and battery widgets. In fact i even had a missing space in the row of 4 (I also have the flashlight widget), so this fits perfectly. Thanks so much
Problem solved!
can anybody confirm that if the install miui-fly, volume styles.. etc
controlling brightness and/or volume does not work?
and we need the actual hardware buttons?

Works perfectly
Screenshot only shows buttons as "on". I can't grab a screenshot of the actual working sliders, but it is working and has a lovely feel to it.
No you can't control them separately.
