Hello,
story is as follow:
Nandroid my original rom, flashed revolution hd 52 rom, and troubles arrived.
Problem is that my NANDROID stupidly got deleted when I cleaned to install new roms.
RESULT:
No network/emergency calls only...
IMEI and product number wrecked, everything was destroyed.
After numerous tries of flashing via ODIN, stock firemware, I managed to flash:
I9300XXUGMK7_I9300OJKGNB1_I9300JKUGNB2_HOME.tar
Which restored my IMEI and Product number, but no success in the network side.
Tried also flashing every single modem i've found and still no success
Tried Ariza also.
I had alot of hope at the beginning when I read that the "state" of the the phone can be restored via kies, but no matter what I did> GT-I9300 "doesnt support initializing"/
I passed on most of the topics about this problem and I don't know what to do next.
++ I have another galaxy s3 phone, using the 2nd phone efs folder can somehow help ?
Please,
help me get this phone up and running
Thank you very much !

First,
Thanks for your answer.
Second,
I tried and flashed his emergency modem, still same problem, IMEI & Product number are fine, still no network.
I've already looked at the second link you gave and didn't get any solution rather than sending for repair.
Thanks again.
Ok no problem I'm not at my computer now but there is also a patched Rom modem and baseband on the forum somewhere that as had success restoring signal can't post links cause not at pc..

LIKE A CHARM !
Thank you so much !
I have three more questions:
1. The fact that flashing this specific rom. kernel and modem means I can't change to any other rom ?
2. Backing my EFS folder can help in case of switching rom ?
I'm asking if my EFS folder is now fixed and backing it up will be same as if I backed it before touching my phone?
3. The 3g connecting is rather slow, the blame goes on my Carrier or that there is a slight chance that the modem I flashed / kernel makes the
connection slower ?
THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES FRIEND !

Glad it worked:good:
(1) I think you can change to any 4.3 rom as long as you flash the patched kernel and modem (not 100% sure)
(2) Backing up efs is never a bad thing (I don't think it is back to how it was or you would not need to use the patched modems kernels)
(3) Here is a link to some more patched kernels and modems (you could try a different modem) https://drive.google.com/folderview...&usp=sharing&tid=0B6MIUd7HJudAbU5YaGkzOUowMG8
I don't think the efs is fixed completely only a original copy took before your problems started would fix that (might be wrong on that)
If you have got the courage you could always try other roms etc and see if it works,at least you know how to return it to working order.

Hi All,
I don't usually post anything but I use XDA a lot as it has helped me in numerous ways...
I would like to ask if anyone can confirm that by doing the below I can re-enter my IMEI in my S3...
1. From Terminal Emulator type "su" to gain root permissions.
2. echo 'AT+EGMR=1,7,"Type your IMEI here"' >/dev/pttycmd1
3. Press enter and reboot.
Can anyone confirm?
On an S3? I doubt it very much indeed.

I have't done anything to the phone yet, I will flash a different ROM soon and from my research I find that once people flash a ROM their IMEI might change which then impairs the phone from connecting to a network.
I want to be prepared in case I need to restore my IMEI. I have read of way that you can back up the efs folder and this is something I am investigating.
But, I want to have a back up plan in case I need something more.
Do you know of the above process? I have seen you tube videos and it seems to work, although I am unaware if this will work on my Galaxy S3.
Can you or anybody else confirm if they know this process to have worked?
If you take a backup of your efs folder then you're covered for this problem

Very rare for you to lose your IMEI .
EFS backup should be all you need .

Not so rare. I loaded CM10 and when I was done, so was my IMEI. This should be preventable. Yes, I think I can recover because i have a copy of my NV_data.bin file, but doesn't seem like a very sporting thing to do to a person just because they loaded a firmware.

I said very rare from the thousands of flashes on XDA few lose IMEI and 99% of those are total noobs . Plus 99% of those that do lose IMEI have not bothered to read and learn but just blindly flashed with no backup of EFS .
Flashing firmware has never been risk free .

Hi,
After flashing latest Omega ROM v46.1 (android 4.2.2) everything was working until I disconnected from WiFi and the Network Data wasn't working. It says "Emergency Calls Only" when bring down the notification bar. I looked at my "about device" and I noticed that my imei had changed to "0004999010640000" Which is unusual however I can't find a solution since i forgot my real imei.
I need help quick. I can't receive or send calls and texts and I can't use my unlimited data plan. I checked and its got nothing to do with the network provider and I also put the right APN settings but still no result.
Everything worked fine on CyangonMod 10.1.2 but ever since I changed to Omega v46.1. My network won't work. Can someone please reply fast since I need to use my phone and I am hesitating to wipe and flash anything else as it took a long time to restore my apps and data and settings as it might not show any results.

Samsung Galaxy S3 General Sticky Roll-Up Thread ***Stickies found here!
You can sometimes recover your imei (which is under your battery) by flashing a stock rom via odin, follow the guides in stickies.
This only works if the efs partition simply isn't being mounted or read, if it's corrupted then you need your backup -no backup then repair centre required.
Your apps and data are the least of your worries at the moment.

I had the same problem. I have o S3 International and I live in Brazil.
I installed this new modem via CWM Recovery and I could fix this issue.
After having S3 for some months, I decided to update it to 4.3.
So I searched online and saw some tutorials how to root and install costum ROMs.
I read few tutorials to be sure how to do that and after all went good and the ROM installed, One problem has rised: NO SIGNAL!
so I wiped all and installed a ROM STOCK.
After that the signal came back "half way". It's showing signal bars but I can't call to anyone, even after calling to my provider...
I just don't know what to do. Please help

well these tutorial you've read were either very bad or you haven't read them correctly, because probably you missed the important step of the efs backup. see therefor the stickies thread or the thousands of similiar questions here in the q&a.

That is your backup flash with odin
( When you flashed a custom rom it probably backed up your efs some roms backup by default)
I would just backup your efs you have at the moment just in case you have problems flashing. You will then be able to return to how your efs is now even though it is not fully working..
Or try this app >> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.hellcat.droiddev.ktool <<
The phone has to bee rotted to use ktool?
I also understand from the link you did about the EFS that there are two types of base bands and if I have an efs backup that I did on V1 baseband so I can't restore it on a v2 baseband, so my conclusion is to get back to 4.1.2... correct me if I am wrong

good that you found efs backup
yes you need root. or you use the recovery philz touch to restore your efs (then you don't need root, but a custom recovery).
well samsung roms based on 4.3 need efs v2, so you have to go back to 4.1.2 to restore your efs v1 backup.
if everything is working again, I would suggest you to use oding to upgrade to 4.3, because then everything should be updated correctly (but keep your efs backup, and make another one, just to be sure)
then you can try out again custom roms based on sammy 4.3
So what is the best option to restore it?
Because before I tried (while 4.3 stock rom was installed) the flash it with Odin but Odin always crashed when I was uploading it to Odin.
With kTool I tried before but when I am clicking on the button it says that it restored but he didn't asked for directory, when do I need to put it?
The same story with phliz, I also tried with this and he don't asks for directory, only asking whan the ending if the file-tar to bin...

and does it for xTool and phliz recovery destinations for teaking the recovery from?

Hmm... try installing another EFSv2 modem, then do the /efs copying part again.
Suddenly after so restarts, the IMEI got back
But... The SN now is 0000000000
You'll need to correct the permissions of the files you've copied. Try searching for someone who already did this and duplicate what they did.

Ok,
I tried something new. I flashed a new modem, backed up a full backup and then installed a costum rom 4.3.
the IMEI GOT BACK! And even the SERIAL NUMBER!
But I think the serial number is not good because he has 16 or 17 (I don't remember) digits (numbers and letters).
But still i have signal bars but can't make or receive calls he says: "No registered on network"
For the finalle, I tried ARIZA patch but he Is stuck on 0%...
here I stopped, I really don't know what to do.
Don't use the Ariza patch once you've got your IMEI and SN back. Maybe try flashing a new stock version of Android with a EFSv2 baseband so as to not go through the copying fiasco.

Hi everyone,
I have galaxy s3 i9300, I flashed cyanogenmod couple of month ago and had troubles with the battary and the gps signal so i wanted to go back to the stock rom.
First, i restored a backup from the original stock with CWM but than decided to install a new one so i downloaded rom from sammobile and installed it with odin. Apparently i made a huge mistake cause since than i cant register to a network.
My IMEI is FINE - the same as written under the battary.
Read alot of threads about this issue, most of them related to a problem with the imei...
Tried this:
1. flash another stock rom
2. flash another rom (PA)
3. install other modems
4. re-partition
Non of them works for me...
I would have tried restore the CWM again to original stock but now having trouble with the CWM reading my external SD.
Thanks!

Are they the patched modems and kernels they have to be patched to work not just flashing the newer modems although that does work for some.

Not I00% sure I think it's more the modem and kernel that you need I just know that particular combination as worked for some people. You could try another rom then flash patched modem and kernel after just make sure the rom is compatible with the kernel.
Also you will always need to use the patched modem and kernel files or you will lose signal again
hey there everybody
i have a serious issue and i think i could use your help
well previously i was on stock rom 4.2.2 on my I9300, then i flashing 4.3 manually using odin and downloaded the rom from sammobile anyhow since i flashed that firmware i can no longer access anything on my sim card, meaning i cant call or receive any call from anyone, it keeps saying no registered on network, then i thought it could be the rom or something, i tried pa rom and cm official latest builds but in vain, the same issue, i tried changing the sim card but the same, issue not resolved....how can i solve this prob, i wish it is just a software issue not a hardware
i also tried following this link, i thought it would help somehow, but in vain as well, now i have no idea what to do to solve this issue, tried reflashing another stock rom which is probably more appropriate than the old one, but also it didnt work, so now i have no idea what to do, i just need urgent help please, thanks a lot in advance

pardon me for im new to this patch and modem, so i have no idea according to what i have to choose
btw dude, i just noticed that there is another stock 4.3 rom for my country, would flashing that stock firmware be of any good and solve the issue?
NOT WORKING, I TRIED
okay buddy i got it to work, flashed patched kernel and patched modem using twrp in one go and it did work, couldn't wait for your reply though, so now it is working peacefully and i can access my sim, calling sending sms etc, but i wanna know how to backup efs, or actually is it necessary to back it up, can't i have the patched modem and kernel files for solving this issue whenever it arises?

Hi sorry I have been away from computer i'm glad to see you got it working You will always need to use a patched modem and kernel the only way to return to normal would have been to backup your efs before it got changed. As for backing up your efs you can back it up with PhilZ recovery I'm not sure about twrp iv'e not used it for a while. There are are a few apps/programs that can back it up also just do a search on xda. But remember you will always need to use the patched modem/kernel if you change roms.

Because when you flashed from 4.2 to 4.3 your efs got changed from efs v1 to efs v2 and in the process it got slightly corrupt so it was unable to read your modem ( This happens some times and you where unlucky) .This is a lesson for all people to make sure they backup the efs before flashing roms ( Especially the very first rom that they flash) it is the very first thing you should ever do.
IMEI changed after flashing to 4.3 jellybean GT-I9300

The one that says kernel is kernel patch and the one that says modem is the modem patch lol Try the mk6 modem and the mk6 kernel patch flash them in custom recovery with 4.3 rom. If you get bootloop reboot into recovery and factory reset. Please note this is not guaranteed to fix all imei issues but does help in some cases.

Is there a possibility that there's a way that I could just wipe my entire phone clean of all partition and data and start a fresh firmware update?, if so how can I do that, as I have a corrupted file then I think if it can be done it might just work a fresh firmware flash on a clean system??

Read here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/ref-imei-efs-stuff-i9300-including-t2393289 << Also you can always pay for a service repair if the patched modems do not work.
important NB: TWRP recovery do support EFS backup with encryption, so i guess it is great to have a sensitive data such as EFS to be backed up with encrypted password, so i do recommend using it as a backup
Hello All, I'm pretty new to all this and am feeling out of my depth, however getting desperate and don't know where to turn next.
I am in Australia and purchased a brand new GT-I9300 from eBay around 3 weeks ago which was shipped from Shanghai, China.
It turned up running 4.1.2 and worked just fine. I tried using the software update feature on the phone to see if 4.3 was available, however, I got the error message to say that because the phone had been modified, software upgrades were unavailable. I mentioned this on a local forum here, and someone kind offered to help me upgrade to 4.3 using Odin.
Turns out the phone was shipped to me rooted and had SuperSU installed. Had to install and run Triangle Away to reset binary counter first. Then installed Odin and followed the links to the firmware and this is where it started going wrong. Fist attempt resulted in a boot loop and could not enter recovery mode to factory reset, however could access download mode, so flashed with 4.3 recovery firmware which got the phone to boot up. Then flashed 4.3 stock firmware again, which was successful this time. However, when trying to make calls or send text messages, the error message on the screen is "Not registered on network". Have tried going back to 4.1.2 and upgrading using Kies, but same result. Then tried the patch from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2745274 and still no luck.
I then sent the phone half way across Australia to Official Samsung Specialist Repair Centre, however, they called me yesterday, to say that because it was an international model, they can't/won't help as they don't have access to international firmware.
If anyone here can help me to get this phone working again, I would be very grateful. Thanks.

Thank You. The phone was posted back to me yesterday, but I won't receive it back until the end of the week. Once I get it back, I'll try this out.
I'm very sorry to have to ask this, but could you give me a bit of a step by step by what you mean?
Thank You again.

Many thanks tallman43, I managed to get someone to give me a hand with giving your idea a try. Just wanted to let you know that it worked, and my GT-I9300 is now back up and connecting to the network and running with 4.3. Thanks again, and much appreciated.
