Hey guys, please vote here - who use screen protector with own TP2
And those who use, please describe here who is the manufacturer of your screen protector and your experience, how good is it for you.
Most recent HTC devices have come with pretty good screen protectors included in the box. I didn't use a screen protector on my first device, and I'm not making that mistake again.
anyone knows why they don't install it from the factory?
I voted and i own an x1. I use.
I've seen threads like this before and I've always wondered why there is even a debate on this topic. Why would anyone not use a screen protector?
My theory: The next person you see using a touch screen device with no screen protector, probably doesn't use one because he messed it up when applying it on the device.

well the picture quality without it is much better, isn't it? I have now 3M protector on my HTC herald, and it doesn't look as clean as without it.
You should use the Crystal Clear type. You sometimes don't even noticed that it's being installed.

That's true, but when you use your device for some months without any protector, it will never be so clear as with a screenprotector (that you can replace when needed )

Based on what I read in the accessories forum, I decided to try a Martin Fields one. Had it on for 2 days now - so far, so good. The one that came with the phone kept peeling off at the bottom edge near the buttons.
I didn't bother with my Vario III, as the ones I tried seriously affected the screen responsivness. Of course it got a key scratch in the first 3 months:-(
On my TP2 I installed the supplied one, and will get a Martin Fields one.
However I've got to return the unit (dodgy radio), so it is vital not to scratch it before returning it!
I messed upp my original screen protector
So i bought the Copter screenprotector from Skalshop.se it's a bit rubbery, but other than that it works good. It came with some liquid spray for aplying the protection. A bit tricky to apply but worked good in the end.
Martin Fields - where from you guys are buying them? I don't see them at ebay for TP2
also - are they really the BEST? or they just have the highest price?
The store from which I bought my TP2 gave me another screen protector - I haven't used the one that came with the device. Probably cost them less than US$1-2 to buy in bulk - I never pay more than US$8 for one retail
Using the one supplied with the evice and it works perfetly (I was against screen protetors when I had a Hermes, but with TP I can barely see it)
I once had a device and when I applied the screen protector I hated it. It improved sunlight visibility by refracting the light, unfortunately this made it harder to read fine print on the screen. I also couldn't remove the protector and was stuck with it. Another one I had tried before that one which was removable, reduced sensitivity too much.
Those are reasons not use one. But as long as the available protectors can be removed in case you don't like them, then it's worth trying them out. That way you don't risk your screen unecessarily.

That's right! I use it and it's better than the one that HTC gives us: I have a new one because it was removed while in my pocket.. But now I'm happier!
I´m using touchscreen phones for many years (since my first PALM ) and i´ve noticed that the new screens are much more resistent. I think that you loose quality if you use a screen protector.
Just don´t put your phone in the same pocket that coins, keys,... and use it´s cover when putting it in a bag.
one other advantage with a phone like this should you choose not to use a screen protector is that since the phone has such a large screen and it's so touch optimized you won't get as much wear and tear on the common points of contact (like the "e" on the onscreen keyboard).
I use Proporta Screen Protectors. After I had used then in my Asus P535 I do not want another brand. They protect very well the screen, they were washable and also doesn't change too much the sensation of the touch with the pen or even with fingers.
I dont use one for a few reasons. I dont put my TP2 in any pocket with coins etc. I am pretty careful with it.
Although most importantly im insured on it, accidental damage w/ no excess to when the time comes it gets a bit dodgy ill smash it up and get a new one. If ive still got the TP2 when my contract runs out/upgrade ill probably wap a screen protector on then.

With the stock screen protector installed, I kind of feel that i can't swipe on the screen smoothly, lots of friction going on and the responsiveness isn't as great. This especially annoys me when I play Fruit Ninja, comparing with my ipod touch first gen. There is a noticeable delay when I swipe across the screen on my x10.
I'm wondering, will the sensitivity increase by a bit? ( im not looking for iphone4 sensitivity here, just wondering if it would increase after I install an alternative protector )
Do you guys suggest that I remove the stock protector and install a third party screen protector?

maybe clean your screen cuz u have too much grease/dirt on it? or maybe use a better quality screen protector?

Thanks for your input but I always keep my cellphone clean. and the whole point of this thread is asking whether using a different screen protector than the stock will help so that does not really answer my question.

do you have the uber thick one on your handset? that is the one I have and its pretty sensitive. I would think a thiner one would be more sensitive
What kind of screen protector comes stock, all I have ever got on any phone was the cheap shipping plastic which is suppose to be removed, although I do see dorks walking around with it...

I took the stock screen protectors off and it's the worst. I've never had a touch screen work so bad. The only reason I haven't installed another is because the phone is defective, and I have to wait on rogers to get the replacement.
IMO if you want to take the stock screen protectors off, put a high quality one on right after. Also, I've been using the phone with no screen protector for about 2 months and I haven't scratched the screen, which is pretty impressive.
Yeah, I've removed the thin plastic that came with it, but it seems there's something more by looking at it's edges. Tried to remove it but wasn't successful in doing so...

The X10 actually comes with a stock screen protector unlike other phones.

awmilton, by worst, do you mean that the stock screen protector is worst?
Or the screen under it is the worst you've seen?
Can anyone tell me how's the screen's performance without protector compared to the screen with protector on it?
X10 actually comes with the worst capacitive screen I've ever seen! Even without the protector the responsiveness is poor and most of the times it's hard to unlock when receiving a call!

The screen under the stock screen protector is the worst. And I'm referring to touch sensitivity, the images displayed by the x10 are quite nice.
So to answer your question, the screen's performance, for me, was worse after removing the stock screen protector. I've heard rumors that there are actually 2 stock screen protectors shipped on the phone. I'm nervous to start picking at the edges again, but if it's anything like the potential "outer" screen protector it's there but hard to see and difficult to take off.
Does anyone know if there are actually two screen protectors applied by sony before shipping?

there's is already a "screen protector" pre-applied on the x10. it's another kind of screen protector which i forgotten the term for it..and inside the box there is also a cheapo screen protector..so if u had use the cheapo screen protector..u are having 2 screen protector on ur x10.
anyway, the "screen protector" can actually be taken off,required abit of skill though. i had heard others removing it and comment tat it is much much more responsive.
but in my opinion i would not have taken it off,it was supposed to give more protection for our phone..surely SE dont put it there for no reason..
All that bad reaction especially in games has nothing to do with the screen, it's all about performance! 3D games with the x10 are horrible and mostly unplayable, you gonna feel if you try an Samsung galaxy!
Sony set the maximum fps that could be reached to 32.. which is in my eyes not smooth..
So for games you need another phone...
hehe i take on the protector that come in the box...so i have two.
The sheap one is terrible so i have ordered a new one.
But i will leave the one from se on even if i put on the new one.
Mine is from the UK and I didn't see one on my phone or in the box apart from the one on the screen that you are meant to take off.
I find that the screen does not respond well if you have sweaty fingers or even when there a drop of water on it but other than that, it is fine for me.
I got a screen protector from Stealth Guard now and it is very easy to apply. Now it works even with sweaty fingers and rain on it. This protector may not be for everyone though as my mates have trouble using it.

Yes, I don't think UK phones have a screen protector on, unless it's really difficult to see and remove...

Yeah it's almost invisible.
I have removed both protectors that were on the screen. The only negative point is that its more exposed to scratches, nothing that a new thinner protector wont cure the sensitivity is a little better I guess but I think SE's bloatware kinda screws up the phones performance anyhow... Bottom line is that the phones screen is sensitive enough but the software is too slow, although I havent tried the 2.2 custom rom yet to verify this
Edit: Nor have I tried to uninstall the most resource demanding apps like timescape etc.

I just got my phone, like today... and... low and behold I scratched the phone when it was in my purse when I was actually buying its accessories
Long story short... I was looking at other forums and such and they mentioned displex or idrops but... I was a bit hesistant to try these solutions on my phone since technologies are always changing and my touchscreen might be completely different than a iphone or what not... but basically, I just wanted to know what any of you would reccomend for scratch removal?
I can tell you the toothpaste trick didn't work...
My screen also got a scratch on it and i am extremely cautious. I have never had a phone screen scratch and I have only had this phone for like 2 weeks and it already has a noticeable scratch. I would love to find a way to buff out the scratch. Anyone know of a good method other than toothepaste that might help this screen type?
had my phone since launch and yet to have scratch, in and out of my pocket all day.
I noticed that my screen (without protector) seems to not be perfectly smooth, it almost looks like it has a really good protector on it. It looks like a layer of something like a plastic protectant maybe? I think i have scratched whatever that is.

I've tried all sorts of things when I was trying to get rid of a scratch on my lcd. You may have some luck with displex, but I would recommend extreme caution (from my understanding, its actually an abrasive paste that smooths down the lcd until the it is at the same level as the scratch).
Personally, I would recommend a screen protector. Not only will it protect your tb from further scratches, but it will also make it harder to see. Don't cheap out either. I personally use Invisible Shield but I have heard good things about Stenheil??? or something similar.
Hi I find that the advent vega is pretty reflective and am wondering what are peoples opinions on getting a screen protector for it? Also noticed the original one or one off ebay too.... any idea which would be better? Thanks.

There are some screen protectors that does a great job on ipad however, bear in mind the screen quality/type is very important. so you can't expect the great view ability even with the best screen protector on vega.
I bought myself one and it actually made it worse. so I am using it without and try to find a shade if I am outside
I am using the standard one from Dixons / PC Word which certainly cuts down reflections and fingerprints, but you will lose some brightness.

Not fussed about loosing brightness, just hate that in the light you pretty much cant see the screen!
So maybe it is Dixons then!
I did buy one of the "official" screen protectors from PC World but hated it, it has a matt finish, and made a rasping noise every time I slid my finger across the screen. I binned it and got one from Poundland and cut it to size, miles better.
I think Poundland will be the place for me, even if it is an iPad one, all the protectors I have seen on ebay are for the screen only, not the whole tablet, unless anyone points me elsewhere

This screen protector is not made by SGP but it way be worth your consideration. This brand is advertised as Armor Suit. I am going to order mines now and will provide and update on its use.

I received mine yesterday at work. As soon as I got home I opened the package and applied the new screen protector. The instructions recommend keeping the tablet off for about 24 hours after application before use. I did miss one part of the instructions which says to wet both sides of the screen protector. Make sure you do this because it will help you remove the liquid and bubble better with the rubber card. It has been over 12 hours since the application and it is curing nicely. I still have about 10 tiny wet bubbles that I am hoping will dry out before I say that it is perfect. One thing I did notice when I removed by prime from its folio case is that I had a tiny scratch a quarter of an inch up above the Asus logo. I was very upset about that because I handle my tablet like a baby, unless somehow the scratch was caused my the inside material of the case. Anyways, the good thing about this screen protector is that now you can no longer see the scratch. If this continues to cure like I hope it does, I will order another one for my girlfriends prime. Did I mention that wifi and GPS performance also improved after the application ??? Lol jk. The screen did lose a little of its smooth glide when swiping with your finger but that should improve over time. Touch response has been the same otherwise. I will provide an update in a couple of days once it has cured some more. If any of you reading this have purchased and installed the product, please provided your experience. Just an FYI to those who use the keyboard dock and are considering installing this screen applicator, removing the prime in and out of the keyboard dock is extremely tight and is marking up the screen protector film where the dock and screen meet. looking forward to your update! only problem i have with their listing on amazon is that i says its non sticky, but also says its self healing... i sell screen protectors in a sprint store. from my experience, the self healing ones tend to be the orange peels and rubbery (sticky) kind. but if im wrong, please let me know! interested in this!

Will do, I received my order confirmation last night. Standard shipping so maybe sometime next week I will have it.
Lifetime warranty means you'll ruin 5 of them just trying to install them! This is why right now I'm not wearing a condom on my Prime. If I can't get the perfect screen protector on there perfectly then I just won't do it at all. I'm fairly careful with the front and I may eat my words one day.

Ok abit of an update, just installed the protector first impressions are this
Install was the best ive done in about 10 protector installs over the years, protector comes off the backing with very little pull, enough solution that i was able to wet my fingers twice and soak the adhisive side and front side well enough that it only took one attemt to postion the protector to the screen and boom it was done after a little squgiing with the rubbery card they give you, i had 3 tiny bubbles that came out easily then 2 slightly smaller bubbles along the top rim that im just gonna have to wait out till tomorrow
So so far im enjoying it, havnt noticed any imperfections, cut outs were extremely accurate now to just wait
Edit: The feels exactly like the screen if not a bit smoother at the moment not sure if this will remain but its pretty slick at the moment

Sending a thanks your way for your update. Later this afternoon I still had a couple of bubbles that I was to impatient on waiting to see if they would dry out and disappear so I decided to apply some of the solution on top of the surface and opted to use a credit card to push out the remaining bubbles (I did not like using the included rubber applicator much.) One Important item that I did not realize until now is that getting the tablet to dock with this screen protector is really, really tight. This may be a deal breaker for some. I don't use the keyboard dock all the time but it looks like the constant swap will make the screen protector look a little beat up at the bottom...

If it's clear and not matt, hows the anti fingerprint part of it working out?

It seems to resist printing fairly well, I'd say it really only has showed them with hard swipes of the finger such as maybe playing fruit ninja for abit but just normal presses it rarely leaves one

both of you get thanks, but im going to skip this buy. we do wet installs at my sprint store, and 2 of the guys there have killed devices this way. i havent, but i dont want my first time to be MY prime, please dont mind my dumb rhyme

That's understandable. This is my first time using a wet screen protector. I wasn't concerned about damaging the prime because I have the accidental protection plan.
Do you have to pay for the replacements? I know most of these "lifetime replacement" types you have to pay $5-$10 just to get them to mail you a new one.

aww thanks dood! i totally forgot about the protection plan! did you go through squaretrade?
back on topic: went with an Acase matte anti glare, dry install. took literally over an hour to get it perfect, but i did it. wish it woulda been easier, but im just too shy of the wet installs...
I'm looking for a top quailty anti-glare screen protector. I mainly want the anti-fingerprint part of it, but I like the matte screen look too. I had a Acase one on there, but the anti-fingerprint wasn't that great. I really wish Realook would come out with one for the Prime, b/c their's are awesome (have it on my phone). Realook (http://www.realook.us/dales_html/) has almost a textured feel to it, which is beyond awesome for keeping finger prints off. I have a email into them now to see if they plan on making one for the Prime.
I'm also thinking about NuSheild too:

I don't think you need to pay for a replacement. I should have an answer to that question in the next couple of days if they respond to an email I sent to them early today...

I can tell you the armor suit does very well reducing finger prints. Your fingers glide smoothly across the screen. Now this is something I am going to try my best to describe, when typing ( I use thumb keyboard) you sort of get what feels like a slight rubber bounce with each press, I actually like that. Obviously its going to feel different then just typing on the glass but for me it works.
