[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 (I9100) suddenly died - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
My Galaxy S2 suddenly died today and I have not been able to turn it on.
This has happened before, but it worked after switching battery, this time it didn't.
I have tried many things that people have suggested on Google, but I am not even able to get into recovery/download mode.
The phone was running NeatROM 4.4.4.

What did you do ?

What I tried?
Removing battery, USB jig, USB power only, download mode, vol up + home + power, etc.

No, i ask what did you do to make it die?

I checked my phone and saw that I received a message, put it in my pocket, took it up - wouldn't respond.

Could still use some help, thanks.

Try putting a new battery in that you are sure has some charge already in it .
Try booting into recovery/download mode .
If it doesn't still turn on it may be that your screen has died or mainboard is dead . Both of which require taking it for repairs as it is kinda like swap the part hit and miss kinda repairing. Still I guess if screen goes bad you should feel some vibration .
Plus it would be nice to know that your phone didn't go off of low battery . Since it can rule out very unlikely scenario that power button has failed or phone died of low battery and charger is refusing to charge the phone .

[Q] Phone will not turn on NEED HELP PLEASE

Hi I just recently bought an HTC HD2 and I got it used. I checked out the phone pretty well and it worked fine when I purchased it. I got home and the battery was dying and eventually died before I got a chance to charge it. So I left it on the charger, the LED light came on and was flashing as if it was charging so I went out for a bit. Once I came back I noticed the LED wasn't on anymore so I tried to start up the phone and the phone wouldn't turn on. I took out the battery and put it back in still nothing. I've even tried using a different battery and still have the same results. I talked to T-mobile and they said to try going into boot mode by powering up holding both volume keys and the power button and I cant get it to start up at all. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong?

When battery is charging the LED does not flash. Normally it just lights in orange. Are you sure that the second battery you used was well charged? Take a tester and measure the voltage on the battery pads - it must show some 3.8 volts. You may check also if your battery is charging on some other phone to confirm that it is healthy before to decide that phone is dead.

just shows what tmo customer support know, , , thats a hard reset they've described, not entering bootloader.
Ok so on my lunch break I went to the t-mobile store and told them my problem, for some reason they were able to get my phone to somewhat charge and start up. So its for sure the battery. I have no idea why the secondary battery I used had no effect on the phone. After work I'm going to go find a new battery and hopefully this will solve the problem. I'll keep you guys posted.

Can't turn it on

Hi guys,
three days ago I installed Darkyrom HD on my mates Galaxy S2, everything went smooth. But 10 minutes ago he called and said that the phone woudn't turn on!
He says he can't get response out of it. No recovery or hard reset with nor without battery in.
Don't hope it's perma bricked and it seems weird that it suddenly wont turn on.
Any ideas/help?
Thanks a lot.
At the same time press volume up + home button + power on to enter CWM.
Is his battery charged?

Does it get a response if holding down the power button for 8-10 sec? This will essentially reboot the phone regardless of what state it is in. If your buddy's been hit with the "sleep of death", this will boot the phone. Though I think this is a low probability if he tried pulling battery and putting it back.
Does it get a response if plugging it into the AC adapter? On the off chance the battery is completely dead. I'd like to think he tried this, though.
Has he tried another battery? Could be the battery lost the ability to hold a charge. Not common, but not unheard of either.
Doesn't seem to help. But I've told to let it charge the night and try again.
Any particular this happens? Seems random that it suddenly wont turn on.

Any particular reason? Sure. Most often, because the user installs something or flashes something they are not supposed to, to their phone. Or dropped it in water.

I wasn't trying to say YOU installed or flashed something. Maybe he did. Can I assume the phone was working when you gave it back to him? And that it was working fine for the three days after? Or was the phone in YOUR possession until he called you today?
I haven't had phone since i installed it. But I honestly don't think i he flashed anything.
He went out to jog - phone worked (listening to music)
He came home and placed the phone on the table - Phone worked
He did some exercises and when he came back - phone all black, can't get any response

You said he tried a battery pull? And no response after replacing battery?
Sure his battery is just not dead, bit odd if it had been working and suddenly this happens.
Most cases an app or something can cause the phone to restart, or freezes, usually a hard reset solves this by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds.
Or entering recovery mode, or download mode just to ensure they are working.
Make sure he can charge the battery.
If all fails you may need to try a jig.

It wasn't the battery. But we've found someone that can repair it for 25 pounds + shipping. So if the USB jig doesn't work, it's going to them!

[Q] galaxy s2 won't come or charge

i upgrade from gingerbread to ics a week back with odin there wasn't any serious problem except for some java errors msgs, occasional rebooting and battery disconnected alerts. The frequency with which all this error occur reduced to some manageable level which was okay with me. Two days ago i tried charging the phone it, displays the battery charging icon but the white dot that moves at the bottom stops at the 2nd white spot and the phone acts like i just re plugged it, i have tried booting into recovery or odin mode with the three button combination all to no avail.
Dude, try to use commas, please.

Try pulling out battery and wait 10mins, also check if u have enough battery left before u start odin again.
It's very strange if u can't use recovery or odin mode cuz the phone shouldn't boot in the first place.
I got the same problem my usb port is kinda broken, so i charge the phone with SGNote externel charger, but then my phone will act strange, It connects with charger and then disconnects when its unplugged.

Remove battery for 10 mins, then replace and leave to charge, even if nothing comes on screen etc just leave it plugged in and charging for a few hours or obvernight.
After that try booting up into download or recovery if still nothing happens try a USB jig. If that doesnt work your device is pretty much screwed and you will have to send away for JTAG flash or mobo replacement.
Btw, this has pretty much already been covered a million times in the other "my phone wont turn on" threads.

I will try this thanks.
May be many S2 devices have this problem. And I had too. It 's often hardware related problem. After reparing it 's ok. But firstly, try to clean charging port, if it does not resolve, bring it to service care.

[Q] SGS2 won't turn on but shows charge symbol

Hi all
My phone was shutting off instantly without any reason for couple of days and then I would turn it on. My battery was also acting weird. Sometimes when I turn it on it was showing 30% battery while before it was at 70%. Today, it turned off and wouldn't turn on. I tried Vol Up/Down+HOME+Power button and Home+Power button but it wouldn't turn on or go into recovery/download mode. When I put it on charge, charge symbol shows for a second and then it would turn off and then again on and off and continues forever.
Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.
Either your battery is not accepting charge or is not getting any charge.
If you know someone else with an S2, ask to borrow their battery to find out whether your phone will boot.
I've a suspicion that you're going to have to replace either the battery or the USB charger port.....or maybe even both.
But the first thing to find out is if the phone boots with a 'known good' battery.
my wife says I'm a phone geek....
I'd have to agree......

Thanks a lot buddy for your reply.
An hour ago I put the phone on charge for about 15 minutes and the battery charging symbol stabilized. Then I pressed Power button and phone booted and was working fine. Then just to check, I shut off and it won't start again and came back to the same old problem. I would definitely battery from same phone and will let you know about the updates.
Regards,
Its a very weird problem. I have put the battery of my brother's SGS2 in my phone and the problem is same. Then when I put my battery in my brother's mobile then that mobile shows the same problem. After switching batteries many time, my brother's SGS2 with its own battery would show the same problem. In other words that mobile was dead also. Then I plugged out the battery from the other mobile and left it out for some time and plugged in again and mobile was ok.
After that I didn't risk to switch batteries again. I have the feeling that problem is not at hardware end. For some reasons my mobile's software is corrupting batteries. I remember to have re-calibrated the battery couple of days ago with software named "battery recalibrate". I am lost at what the problem might be and what to do anymore.
Pls help.
Flash firmware with Odin that will rule out software problems. Flash say lsw and see if its the same.

Any idea/suggestion to boot the device.
Jig to force it to download mode
Just for the record. I discovered the solution to be ridiculously simple. Battery pins connection was loose and by just putting a foiled tissue paper at below corner of battery to strengthen connection of pins, all was back to normal. Ahh! it was such a relief.
Happy days glad you sorted it:thumbup:

Dont panic, Just see if u can put it into 'Download Mode' (vol down + pwr + home button combo) .
If it sees dwnld mode then u can 'Odin' flash a Stock rom and see
^^^
Yeah. Like a phone in that condition is going to boot into download mode magically You've been here long enough & seen enough of these to know there's only one fix for 99.9999% of them (& this one is not one of the 0.0001%).
OP - one/more components on motherboard dead = replace motherboard - Samsung service centre for new board (expensive option), source 2nd hand board yourself online (Google search) & either swap yourself or pay local mobile repair shop to do the swap (cheaper option).
Anything else anyone tells you is just giving you false hope where there isn't any (and I really wish people wouldn't do that on here; why not just be honest with people from the getgo ?).

post above correct. but some things you can try.
1). Remove battery. hold combination for download mode (volume down + home button + power button). when you hold, slide battery back in place. you need some fine motors or someone to help. keep holding the keys. see if it goes to download.
2). Use Jig. No hurt trying
hope help
