[Q] Screwed up recovery on MK2 phone goes to ODIN downloading screen ? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

When I first got my second GS4 (about 6 months ago) I rushed to root it and install a recovery (forgetting that the MK2 build has a locked bootloader) I attempted to flash CWM with ODIN and now if I boot to recovery it goes straight to the ODIN Downloading screen. The phone is still fully functional other than the recovery and it is rooted. Since screwing it up I've been looking for a way to fix this I know that i should have used the LOKI method to flash CWM. Is this something that i could fix by flashing stock firmware? or am I out of luck? Thanks.

If your phone is NOT mdk base...you can not use loki or goo manager or rom manager or twrp. Safestrap only can be used. To clean up the mess mostly requires odin of the clean image of your firmware mk2.

Flash the stock recovery IMG in odin
Sent from my SCH-I545 using XDA Free mobile app

I suggest the full wipe method located here. Put in ap slot of odin.

Thanks Tulsadiver I'll give that method a try ... and Thanks to decaturbob for the warning about LOKI, I must have missed that when I was reading over the thread ... I probably would have screwed up my phone again.

Cant flash any recovery image :(

Hey Guys,
So I was running the google experience rom v3 and I decided to head on over to another rom but forgot to wipe before hand and my phone got a little wonky. I eventually ended up doing a complete Odin factory flash which brought me right back to VRUAMDK, when I went to install the OTA update to VRUAME7 my phone would reboot but would not apply and changes and I would get a notification telling me I cant update. I used an Odin flash to the VRUAME7 stock rom and that worked but for some reason I cant flash any sort of recovery now. Booting into recovery just brings me to download mode. I've tried flashing a recovery with Odin with failures on the write. Did I seriously F&#$ up my Nand? I just want to be able to run a recovery and have my GE S4 back Any help would be majorly appreciated.

The VRUAME7 firmware patched the Loki exploit and therefore you can not install a custom recovery. Right now all you can do is root the device also there is no way to go back to the VRUAMDK firmware.

HELP! Cant boot into anything except recovery

Hey guys just got a new Verizon S4 that has the bootloader unlocked. The guy I bought it from had CM 10.1 installed. I was wanting to go to the google edition rom or a TW rom. I flashed the google edition rom and it booted fine the first boot. Second boot, it got hung on the "Samsung Galaxy S4" screen. I have wiped caches, reflashed different roms and now everytime I try to boot the phone, it hangs at the same screen. I have no idea what to do. I know I can odin back to stock but I don't want to lose my root and unlocked bootloader (I am assuming I will?) Help?
Did you full wipe? Not just cache. You have to do a full wipe, system and everything. Basically factory reset.
If that doesn't work, you can flash back to stock and re root it, it's really easy.

I did a factory reset. If I flash back to stock I will lose my unlocked bootloarder correct?
I tried flashing another recovery and now I cant even get into recovery. I get the following in red at the top "secure fail: kernel" Then I get a yellow triangle below that that says "system software not authorized by verizon has been found on your phone, yada yada" Am I screwed? I tried flashing cwm advanced edition
I dont think u'll lock the bootloader as long as u dont take the me7 update... factory reset then reroot right after....

You can't flash a new recovery from inside the GPE port. Since you got the triangle of doom I'm guessing that's what you did. You need to ODIN back to the MDK stock Tar file. I don't know who has it but the download link is on here. Then you need to reroot using the MDK root method, which requires you to download the MD2 bootloader tar file and the MDK boatloader tar file and the motochopper root exploit tool. After you have root, update the binaries. Then power off and reflash back to the MDK (using the .tar file) Once back in MDK you can download a new custom recovery. TWRP or CWM. Boot into recovery and make a full nandroid backup. This way if crap hits the fans again you can reflash your backup. After your backup is done. Download the GPE zip file (I usually put it in my microsd card) then boot back into recovery and reflash the GPE ROM.
Important things to remember.
1.) Don't install the ME7 tar file in ODIN when reflashing
2.) Don't accept the update that OTA
3.) Don't reflash from inside the GPE ported ROM
4.) Don't forget to update the Root binaries from google play after installation

[Q] I think I lost recovery on my vj7 S4

Alright, so this isn't THAT big a deal (I think). But I can't access recovery. I rooted my S4 using the Vroot method and attempted to use goo manager to install a custom recovery(yeah, locked bootloader, yadayada). But, I can't access recovery any more. I can boot up just fine, but trying to boot recovery brings me to download/odin mode. Can I just odin the stock recovery back on if I want?

You lost it because you tried overwriting it. No you cant but you can odin an mj7 image. I believe theres a no wipe version so you can keep your data.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.

Can I still take OTA updates, or if we finally crack the bootloader, flash safestrap or cwm?

[Q] HELP with dead me7 sch-i545

I need help to revive my ME7 SCH-I545 VERIZON. my device was rooted and had a twrp recovery. accidently I installed 4.3 on stock slot in TWRP. Now I can't boot anymore into sys or recovery. I tried to flash stock rom through ODIN but it failed with "no pit partition error".
I loaded a pit file (which I am not sure is compatible with ME7) and it failed again.
I don't know how to remove the TWRP recovery while the device is dead. It seems to me the logical thing to do because of pit error in odin.
Any idea?

Well it's impossible to have TWRP on ME7 so that might be you're first problem.

As far as I know I had a twrp. I installed it and got a recovery which I encounter the first time: first an option to choose if to continue to system or to recovery. press recovery and then you get all the options like boot options, install, wipe and so on. I had my stock rom me7 installed on the stock slot and I installed a custom rom on slot 1. My mistake was to install the new ver 4.3 on the stock slot instead of an new slot.
I hope that I convinced you. I still need a help! my device is dead!

Oh you had Safestrap not TWRP lol but sorry I never used Safestrap, you should ask in the thread for it.

joshm.1219 thank you for trying.
I finally found an uncorrupted tar file. I flashed it with odin and everything is working now.
I can say now with certainty that most files out there are corrupted which is very bad news for us users.

Looking for the stock recovery for Verizon MK2

Any help would be appreciated. Just need the stock .img file to flash. I've tried flashing all versions of TWRP and it ends up bootlooping and getting stuck in Download Mode. I'd like to put the stock recovery back on for now until I find something that works.
Thanks!

If you're on MDK, use the link for MDK. Otherwise use one under the "Information" part of the post. (A Full-Wipe tar will remove all personal data from your phone.)
If you're not on MDK you will probably never be able to flash TWRP.
Safestrap is an option, but only allows TouzhWiz-based roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441441
Thanks. Any way of pulling just the stock recovery .img and flashing it thru Flashify, or do I have to download the entire stock rom and do the no-wipe thru Odin? Reason I ask is because the phone works fine, just the recovery is borked if I try to boot into it.

You're on the MK2 build/bootloader, can boot into the android, but can't boot into recovery? That seems unusual to me (would have expected you to be forced into download mode), but I'm not an expert on it.
I don't have an MK2 device, but I would imagine @Surge1223 probably has an MK2 recovery .img

Yeah it's odd. After trying to flash the recovery, it did get stuck forcing me into download mode. But by pulling the battery then manually booting into Download mode (Vol-Down, Home, Power) I'm able to get to the warning screen about Custom OS's and press Vol-Down to cancel. This boots into Android and fixes the issue. Reboots work fine, but if I try to boot into recovery it forces me into Download mode again. It's really odd. I might just take the plunge and do Surge1223's full wipe tomorrow. I've already gone thru and backed everything up to my PC.
Thanks for the help.
