This is my second Anker charing disc (the first one didn't work at all, but atleast they replace it). Now onto the review:
The packaging is the same as other Anker product that I have. The box is a plain, cardboard and logoless with the exception of their name printed on the front. The box is in a sleeve which is home to the product information on the back and a picture with a brief description on the front.
Once your open the box you are greeted by the wireless qi charging disc. The internal packaging is the same as the exterior with more cardboard, which is okay with me because the product is what you are buying and not a just a box. Once you remove the charging disc you are greeted by a small warrantee paper, and a micro USB 2.0 cable. There is NO power adapter included with this charger. All you need to start charging is a standard 2.0A USB brick. The qi charger is one of the faster one charging at 1.0A which is great compared to others.
The charger is easy enough to use, simple plug the micro USB cable into the back of the disc and the other end into a 2.0A USB charger, or external battery. After that is done you will see a little green light on the front of the charger light up, this means you are ready to charge. Simply place your device on there and your charging!
The build quality is great, its very thin, light, however, its very glossy and attracts fingerprints better than forensic dusting powder. On the underside you will find four rubber feet, along with a S/N for the device.
Here it is charging my Nexus 7 (2013):
I hope you all enjoy this quick look and review of the Anker qi charging disc.

Hi,
I see on MobilePlanet they have 2 types of cradles available for the 8525:
- http://www.mobileplanet.com/p.aspx?i=143228
Which one is better?
What are any differences.
Thanks,
Alan.
One clearly has an extra battery slot.

I don't know anything about the second one, but I have the first one right in front of me. Some information:
- detachable USB cable, which means it can't charge the device if not connected to a PC
- does not come with a power supply. It seems the design allowed for a socket for an external power supply, but the hole is blocked with some plastic part. I would think there's probably a "de luxe" version with an external power supply.
- good build quality and finish
- extremely poor fit for the TyTN's shape. Almost looks like it was intended for another device. There is no "guidance" for the TyTN when you put it in, so it's quite difficult to get the USB connector into the socket. And when it's in, the USB connector carries most of the TyTN's weight, as the bottom of the TyTN does not make contact with the cradle. I fear this will wear out the TyTN's USB connector rather quickly...
Personally, I would not buy it again.
Cheers
Daniel
it will be good to see a landscape crade with audio out (3.5mm). Mr Gadget in australia has a nice jasjam cradle in landscape and it comes with a dedicated stylus in the crade - but no audio out.
Beware of the cradle from BoxWave, I just got one.
It comes with a A/C adapter to mini USB for charging and a std USB for sync. You can use one or the other. I got the version that has the spare battery charge bay. I also purchased the Std Battery replacement for the 8525 from them as well.
The Cradle has a Red/Green Charge light and a Blue Power LED. My Blue LED was blindingly bright for a few minutes, then it began to flicker like a candle. now it's pretty much out. The charge lite seemed OK, it charged the Boxwave battery and went from steady red to green.
The boxwave battery was thicker than stock and caused the rear cover to bulge a little. I'm not happy and am returning it.
The Stock battery, if inserted into the cradle charge bay, causes the charge light to blink a fast red, Fail? Even though the battery is charged and new. So I'm returning the cradle as well. Too Bad....
Got the boxwave one myself and must agree don't bother.
I sent them an e-mail asking if it can AC charge and SYNC at the same time.
THey assured me it could.
It can't.
I also can't seem to get that across to their people... they still assure me it can and mine must be defective.
The binking lights are majorly anyoing, way to bright. And it is a pain to get it to fit right.
Just got one of the Expansys models above, the one with the 2nd battery charge bay. It fits the 8525 perfectly and seems very well made. It has seperate mini-usb connectors on the back for A/C adapter and Sync.
It also has seperate A/C and USB indicator Leds on the left side and a BiColor LED on the right for the extra battery bay. I tried a charger on it and it charges both battery and phone, A/C Led is On, the USB is Off. I tried a USB PC sync cable and it syncs and charges both batteries, the USB Led is On and the A/C Led is Off. I plugged both USB and A/C into the base, and it appears to still work normally, the A/C and USB Leds are both ON.
So it looks like it will work as a sync cradle on the PC and still charge batteries with the PC Off.
It came with no instructions or cables/adapters so I don't know if plugging both A/C and Sync in is completely OK.
It is a nice little base but for $42 I would have liked some accys and instructions.
Just wanted to double check.
You are saying both a USB and AC connect at the same time on the Expansys model (ones in first post?)
Wanted to make sure before I wasted more money.
Yes, the version that has the 2nd battery bay is what I have;
http://www.mobileplanet.com/p.aspx?i=143228
This model has two rear mini-usb connectors, and I plugged my Cingular 8525 charger into the cradle's mini-usb port labeled as charge.
I also plugged my PC's USB sync cable into the cradle's sync-mini USB port labeled sync.
The cradle seems OK with this. There were no instructions or warning labels telling me "only one at a time", and it's working.
Also I wanted to mention that the charge bay pins are all gold versus the BoxWave which were plain silver. Much nicer quality.
Hi. Just got this cradle:
http://cgi.ebay.com/US-SYNC-CRADLE-...wItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item2c51ff9fc2
(screenshot attached in case the link is dead)
Overall it's a nice product, not the usual cheap chinese stuff. Inserting the phone is a bit hard, and removing requires that you hold the cradle with other hand.
But the main disappointment is that it charges at same current as standart USB cable, despite it has a proper wall charger with 5V/1A output. I checked it with Powerguard, original wall charger gives more than 500mA, original USB and this cradle ~150mA.
It is my first smartphone, I haven't got any experience with desktop chargers. Is it common that they usually behave like this? I asked a friend who has some ancient HTC/MDA with original cradle, his charger is also slow.
In most phones the charger is part of the phone so it can control the charge rate to the battery. The Dock or USB cable just supplies current for the phones charging circuit.
Hey all,
I have tried powering my dock with the Samsung wall charger (The square black one) that came with the phone, if I direct connect the USB cable to my phone, it fast charges but if I connect via my Hyperion dock it slow charges.
Before I start damaging the dock, is there a way to force fast charging without shorting pins?
Thanks!
It might be the pin configuration in the dock considering it has to also double as a USB dock....

Tried 2 different power sources. The OE that shipped that states 1.5A and an HP Touchpad one that states 2.0A. Plugged directly into the phone, the Hyperion only sends 453mah whereas the HP sends 1003mah of charge. Plugged both into the dock and the 453 is what comes out to the phone. Even while charging the extra battery only 453mah output. So it seems like the dock is to blame.... :-(

The easiest way to do what you want without making a change in your docking is to get one of those short usb standard jack to standard socket. They are like a little extension that mainly come bundled with thumbdrives so they are easy to connect to crammed USB ports. You can open that extension (don't snip it) along the cable to exposed d the inside conductor wires. You will have 5 conductors, the shield (either a silver braided sleeve or a plastic like silver sleeve), red (+5), black (volt gnd), green (-data) and white (+data) (sometimes they replace the white for yellow). After exposing the conductors peel a little bit of the two data cables, short them together (don't snip them), put some black electrical tape around them to shield them then do the same for the larger cut you did. When you connect this cable to your charger then to the docking the two data cables short will signal the phone to go on fast charging. Make sure you do have a charger rated for at least 1.5 amps. Don't use this cable if you are doing anything that requires communication with the phone as this will not allow any data to flow to the phone. Use only when fast charging is required.

You can also look for a USB cable that has tabs holding the connector ends together. These are easier to work with, even if you're using a micro-USB cable. Pop the tabs with a needle and separate the two halfs of the plastic casing. The wires are already separated and soldered to the connector. You can short the wires there and reconnect the two plastic halfs.
Is there a cable longer then the original that will charge like the original?
The cable is too short, and i cant find a longer one anywhere. I need one that would charge the phone fast like the original.
I use a 3 foot usb cable extension with mine

There is nothing special about the original cable, it is just a data cable/charge cable. It is the charger that is special. The stock charger is internally shorted to charge [email protected]?2 amps not [email protected] Get a good quality 6 foot data/charge cable from monoprice. The monoprice cables have small ends that fit on almost all cases with smaller USB holes. EBay cables are hit or miss.

Grab your stock charger, install Galaxy Charging Current on your phone and test different cables. You'll see that the stock cable charges much faster. This goes for car chargers too. I have a Samsumg OEM 2 A car charger that I tested with different cables. The difference between the stock cable and even good quality cables is notorious. What really isn't that special is the charger. Even a USB charging port from a laptop can provide more than 500 mA. By the way, you are confusing DC and AC currents.if you are referring to the 500 mA of the USB standard, they are DC too.
That being said, I too wish there was a 3 meter cable that could charge as fast as the Samsung original.

I bought my phone brand new from a local Verizon Corporate store and obviously my phone came with the Galaxy Note 3's standard white Samsung 2.1amp charger and white USB 3.0 charging cable. I needed extras and wanted to order something as close to stock performance and charging speeds that I could get without paying out the a$$ for a couple of real OEM wall chargers and cables from Verizon, so I did a little research and found a couple of good combos off Amazon that matched the same charging rates that the OEM charger/cable combo gives me.
I ordered an Amazon Basics 2.1amp output wall charger, this Amazon Basics 9ft long USB 3.0 cable, this small/low profile PNY 12volt/2.1amp "Rapid Charge" Car Charger, and this 8ft long Mediabridge USB 3.0 "SuperSpeed" Cable.
I tested combos of each cable(OEM White Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Cable, Amazon Basics Cable, and the Mediabridge Cable) with EACH charger(OEM White Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Wall Charger, Amazon Basics 2.1amp Wall Charger, and the PNY 2.1amp Car Charger) using the "Galaxy Charging Current" app and got the same results all across the board with each combo, even the Samsung Charger/Samsung Cable combo. So unless that app spits out skewed numbers on a consistent basis, I believe it's safe to say that as long as you get a decent quality charger that can truly pump out 2.1amps like the OEM Samsung Charger and a decent cable to pair up with whatever charger you purchase, there's no need to spend the big bucks and go OEM....unless you're just one of those kinds of people that HAS to have OEM everything just for the extra peace of mind and to make sure all of their accessories are of the same matching Samsung brand. I see no reason to spend that kind of money when a MUCH cheaper alternative will get the job done just the same, PLUS the "craftsmanship" and quality of the aftermarket chargers/cables I mentioned appears to be outstanding, if not maybe even a little better than the OEM Samsung combo...besides the fact that the fancy OEM cable has the glossy, white, square-shaped plugs at the each end of the cable with the "SAMSUNG" name emblazoned on them and those aftermarket cables gave me a hard time squeezing past the charger cutout on my Spigen Slim Armor Case(some shaving of the plug is necessary in order for them to fit through my Slim Armor charging cutout).
If you're not concerned with all that fanciness, save yourself quite a few bucks and opt for the cheaper alternatives...just do yourself a favor and do your research first...you WON'T be disappointed. :good::good::good:
You got lucky. I've tested about half dozen cables by now and none of them managed to deliver the same current as the stock cable. Out of curiosity, what current did you get? 1800 mA?
Yeah, it's mostly testing with the Galaxy Charging app on whether or not you get the max current or not. I got lucky that my wife's Lumia's data cable is at par with the stock cable and use that for Ingress sessions. I also use the HP Touchpad wall charger as a secondary charger, it gives out 2.1 amps, one of the best chargers around.

I have also tested with various combinations of the OEM sammy cable and charger, AmazonBasics 3' and 9' USB3 cables, a nexus 7 wall charger and an Anker 2.4W car charger. All did very well and charged around 1800mA. My laptop charges it at a little under 500mA.
I also had to shave the AmazonBasics end to fit with my Slim Armor case. I don't get why they made it so large in the first place, its HUGE. Also, the AmazonBasics cord is very thick and stiff, more like cable TV cable.

I'm with you. I've been using that cheap sprint 2amp dual use ac/car charger with the monoprice cables and it charges just as fast as the stock samsung combo.
By the way, ~9 feet (3 meters) is a long ways to charge something.
If you ever notice if you buy one of the cheap cigarette lighter chargers it shows USB charging in the battery properties. This limits it to around 500ma. It must be internally wired to charge at the USB standard. Now buy cigarette Lighter 'fast charger' and it will show AC charging in the battery properties. It must be internally wired to charge at a higher amperage.

In the bottom line, only the samsung original cable can charge with maximum power?
No, just a good quality cable imho. Monoprice 6 footer or similar. Only one thing that bothers me with monoprice cable is the wire tends to pull out of the terminated end if you pull at it too much. What I love about them is the terminated ends are small.

Go get one of these:
Qi Adapter
Plug it into your charge port, and just use a sticker or electrical tape to stick it to the back of the device, then slap that bad boy back in its case.
Your Nord will now charge on any wireless charging mat.
I suggest Spigen cases, but that's just me.
whats the charge speed since it takes your usbc port
