Dears,
How to find nearest cell tower location Or the location of the tower is connected to؟
I need to find the nearest cell tower to my current location. I found my current location using GPS, but I need to get the location of the nearest tower to me.
Thank you
If you're in the States, www.cellreception.com/towers/
Why not try 'open signal' from the play store? I always use it. Works perfectly in my location of Perth, Australia.

He's in Libya.
I don't think there are apps that will tell you exactly where the cell towers are. If your provider has a website with a coverage map, you can usually tell generally where the towers are. I tried googling it, but couldn't find anything myself, about Tripoli.

There are various apps that supposedly do this, but I don't really trust them. I tried a couple, and they don't work. One, Signal Finder, shows a bunch of towers, but not where I know for a fact that they exist. Another, CellMaper, doesn't even show any towers. But it does have an option for Libya.
Frankly, I don't know if such a thing is actually possibe: your phone somehow detecting exactly where a tower is. That'd require some sort of triangulation or reverse GPS location or some such thing. Anything else would be merely a map with the locations included, or perhaps something proprietary for the tech support workers of the service providers.
You could always call your provider and ask. Or perhaps there's something from your government (like city hall, or public records) that has to disclose this kind of information on request. I have no idea if that sort of thing exists where you are.

Anyone know if any software exists that uses the GPS and mapping software, but also tells you locations of cellular towers on the map?
Doesn't www.navizon.com software do this? im not sure so if anyone else knows and can chime in. i do recall it showing on there login page it does show the cell tower locations.
Meh..i've tried navizon, and it's a bloated piece of software if you ask me....
i'm looking for something small that merely has a map that uses the gps, but just shows the locations of cell towers....it probably doesn't exist...

Second that, I think it is tough to set up to work well and it doesn't have near enough intuition.
As a new direction, is there a free place to get points-of-interest downloads to incorporate into TomTom that show towers, speed cameras, nudist beaches (just kidding)...

Well being as you have tried navizon, that means you have an account. If you log into the account from their website, you can view cell tower only info on a map. I know this is not exactly what you are trying to do (you want it on your ppc I assume) however this is the only way I know of (currently) to see tower info on a real map. It might suffice for your needs for now...
Serfboreds,
I have downloaded speed camera POIs for TomTom6 from http://tomtom.gps-data-team.com/ I dont know how accurate it is because there are very few speed camera's in my area (Kansas City). But when I was in France and Australia it was spot on.
Nuguy,
Love your signature. "Mine is also a theft deterent device. Go ahead, try to take my wallet..." Best mobile phone ad I have ever seen. I even downloaded it and sent it to my friends in Australia so they could have a laugh too.
So radios, despite common belief, does not improve signal strength (hardly at all). I don't want to buy the new Verizon signal booster for a big $250, and I'm not gunna sauder together coffee cans and antenna adapters yada yada. Is there any ways (besides those ^ and *22899 or *228) to boost service. I'm curious if anyone here has any techniques or know how on this. Thanks in advance, everyone here has been a great help so far

Don't know much about it, but I sometimes get better service when my internet is off. Also, strangely I get terrible service in my house (1 bar currently) when I'm sitting right next to a window, and I get great service at school (3+ bars) in rooms with no windows. Its all just hit and miss for me.

I think I remember reading that people in some areas were receiving better coverage by adding APNs for Alltel towers. I guess they are now part of the Verizon network now, but the stock APNs do not use them.

Nvm lol. Did a simple search and found it. Unfortunately, the only Alltel towers in CT (suprised there are any haha) are 3 counties north west so no help with service there. Thank you tho.

I'm sure that this problem is not unique to me. I live in a small community with poor cell service. I have a vzw booster, it's placed in my living room. That way I get good service in my yard. The problem is that most people in my town have become aware of it. We have some really questionable people that have become quite a nuisance, the type of people who you don't want to know when you are home or not. It's really starting to bother my wife. We can't even sit in our living room anymore with the windows shades open. I know that this probably the best place to post this. Can anyone help me out with blocking numbers or something. I'd hate to have to unplug it, I've searched for the answer. But have officially given up. :'(
I mean really? I paid for it, shouldn't I be able to control access just like a router?
Unfortunately it is just extending the cell service frequencies. All the same rules apply that apply to a cell tower. I'm sure Verizon could control roaming of phones on the device, but any low level tech would probably deny the possibility. They probably just don't have a easy one click solution. But i would call them and complain. Tell them you have limited data on your home internet and you don't want the whole neighborhood using your service.
There is also the possibility that your extender could be a repeater of the closest tower to you, in which case you could never deny any phone service because it would also cut that phones service from the tower.
Good luck, please post any info you gather.

I found this in the FAQ, it may pertain to you.
Can I manage and secure access to my Network Extender?
Yes. Only the Network Extender account owner can sign in to My Verizon to manage device settings. You can set your Network Extender for Open Access or Managed Access.
Open Access allows any Verizon Wireless phone within range to use your Network Extender.
With Managed Access, you can prioritize access to your Network Extender to up to 50 Verizon Wireless callers you select. Where a compatible tower is unavailable, callers that do not appear on your Managed Access list may access the Network Extender when not in use by priority callers. All callers may access the Network Extender for emergency (E911) calls.
Also Section 2 in the manual it also mentions this.
http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/network_extender_user_manual.pdf
Everything I find says I can set a priority list for 50 phones, but not block. Idk
So i got lost last night in the middle of no where down in south jersey, of all places. Wound up in an area without tmobile access and I was trying to find my way back home. Go to my trusty GOOGLE MAPS which has always worked above and beyond compared to my garmin or magellan GPS. Type in the address to get back home to plot the route, and wala! "No network connection available, try again later". What an absolutely amazing load of crap this is. I come to find out that google maps no longer supports offline use.... now im told that you can cache small areas of the map in your phone but what the hell good is that if i somehow find myself in an area i havent cached? Really google?
Has anyone come up with a viable alternative to google maps?
copilot offers offline maps.

It looks good but its only a 14 day free trial, then you have to buy it to get turn by turn navigation.

You must've been in SOME boonie area. I know South Jersey at least has EDGE. Knowing from experience, I got lost in around the same area at night. My MyTouch 4G had a strong EDGE signal. Hopefully you don't go through that again. It sucks being lost, especially in a part that barely anyone travels to. Have you tried Mapquest?

If you don't have a data signal, GPS is useless. Google Maps doesn't have pre-stored maps. The only functional offline mode it has is with predetermined grids that you set up when you have a connection. Do you have a pre paid plan? Post paid plan could have been helpful here since it allows roaming and there could have been another network in the area. Either way a regular GPS or a plain old map still should probably be in your as a backup

I live in a rural area, where rarely I find places within the service range. I was wondering if there was any form of WiFi calling built into the phone without any third party apps, no matter the provider.

It's built in in LG v30. If you are not using LG v30, i'll consider using Google Voice on Hangouts. When i traveled overseas, i used google voice on Hangouts, it worked really well.

Hi,
I'm not sure what you're asking for is possible. The device is definitely capable of it. But it requires a phone service that allows it in a compatible way.
I think you would have more success in getting confirmation if you narrow it down. For example, maybe ask if anyone can confirm working VoWiFi in a given geographic area to say what provider they are using.
I can confirm that I am able to make/receive calls on my V30 while on any WIFI in the world, through my Canadian Freedom Mobile account.
