New wakelock - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I discovered today that probably due to play store and services automatic update I have some new wakelocks which keep the device constantly awake. They are GCM_CONN_ALARM,
GCM_HB_ALARM and GCM_CONN. Each of them keep the device awake equal time.
Has someone any suggestions what to do or has anyone else same problem?

I have the same issue since my Android was updated to KitKat.
It seems the problem is in Google Play Services: Location (it's that feature to locate you via WiFi)
I think they know about it. However it's hard to make hotfixes for some reason.
I found two ways to keep my battery from discharging:
1. clear cache of Google Play services and restart a phone (temporary solution)
2. kill all the Google Play services (there are 4 of them in my phone). Unfortunately it doesn't help if you just kill only a location service.
Anyway this issue is still not clear to me.

Turned off sync, now it enters deep sleep also sometimes, but still most of the time device is in active state

Use an app called Greenify https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify to control apps causing wakelocks and battery drain. Works better if you are rooted.

Have you tried to greenify Google play services? It's not possible since it is system app and when converting it to user app won't work.

Now I have tried to refresh another stock based rom, same problem, still only one?

[Q] official facebook app using gps

the facebook app is using the gps function of my phone each time the app is opened, even when the location service is turned off.
is there any way to stop it from doing that?
thanks.
the simplest, yet most effective, way to reject permissions of an app is LBE security from the play store. it requires root.
you can set all kinds of permissions for each and every app you have. simply set facebook's location request to deny and it will not use it anymore.
If the App crashed, try to find a pdroid version for your firmware. But afaik there's no working for ics atm

the problem is not that the app crashes. It just bothers me that FB app is constantly using the gps while i see no use for it at all (other than draining the battery)

This was happening with me aswell and I fixed it. Go to Applications > Facebook and Clear Data. After clearing data, uninstall the application. Then install it again via Google Play and turn off the location. Make sure it's the latest version of facebook

Background data question.

I get insane battery life when background data is disabled. I was wondering if there is a way to disable it for everything except google play store. Google play store will not function without background data enabled. And it's annoying to enable/disable it fully just for that. Is there a work-around for that?
I doubt there is a way but you could check with some other experienced people

[Q] how to stop apps that keep restarting themselves?

How do I stop google play store and play services from running non stop in the background?? I have my location turned off, and privacy guard turned on, but somehow play services and google maps can get my location? Google play store runs something called "daily hygiene"and all three of these apps restart themselves when I kill them. I don't need play services running, when only the location part of it is running. When I try and disable autostart, receivers, freeze them, use advanced freeze through ROM toolbox, they either revert back instantly, or as soon as the phone reboots. Can anyone tell me how to get this crap to stop running when it's not being used, and stop getting location, or whatever other things I'm trying to keep private?
update
Update what?

Freeze them with titanium backup. It'll stick through a reboot.
Is there a way to make it stop constantly running in the background and become a cached process without freezing?

If you do not want to freeze them. You might try Greenify. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155737
Although system app hibernation might only be with the donation package. But I can't remember. Might want to read up on the OP in the link.
Use greenify
yes the best option is to use greenify which stops those apps run in background unnessecerily

Can an option of setting locations manually be added, please?

The apps that I've used involving location information all have this feature. I really don't wanna enable google location service all the time.
Have been bugging about this since the early beta stage. You have the option in Zooper Widget standalone so it shouldnt be too hard to get it into Themer. Its rather annoying to drain 40% juice in just 5 hours while doing nothing with it.

I have also this problem, please solve this

Using Android in China = Extreme battery drain / Google blocked

I stay in China a lot of the time, and swap to a Chinese sim when I'm here.
The problem is, that, China as of the beginning of this year has now effectively blocked ALL of Google's services. I wouldn't mind it that much, but it's causing an extreme battery drain on my Note 3.
I can be sure it's a problem from the Google block, because I used this phone last year when Google was not yet completely blocked without problem, and now, when outside China the battery life is as expected.
This is probably due to the wakelocks or alarms when the phone tries to ping or communicate with Google services.
The phone gets noticeably hot in my pocket ALL the time.
Biggest battery drains are always listed as "Google play services" and "Android system". Again, only happens in China. Connecting the phone to a VPN helps, but that's not a solution. It eats up my data a lot.
TL;DR: China's block of Google is causing massive battery drain in my android phone.
So my question is, how can I "disable" or de-googleify my phone temporarily or even permanently? I've tried "disabler" apps, that don't seem to help. Is it safe to just completely uninstall Google Play services? My problem is I am still tied to Google for contacts, emails and such, so I still need that functionality.

Rooted and I have the same problem also. It's a pain having to use a powerpack 24/7
