[**ATTENTION DEVELOPERS**] Bootloader Unlock - Verizon LG G3

We are over $2300 for a bootloader unlock. I am curious is there anyone out there who has attempted any work on this goal yet?

Samsung galaxy s5 hit 18k before an unlock but money shouldn't make to much of a difference I'm sure the people who brought us root are working on it though
They recently fixed some twrp stuff for the D851, just hoping they're next target is unlocking bootloaders but only time will tell
Following them on twitter you'll find more info and updates than asking for it on an xda post

Ya I stopped buying Samsung, because it took 18k to root the damn thing, way to locked down, kills the fun. But being over $2300 in just over 11 days isn't too bad. That Samsung bounty went for a very long time. There were also a few people who individually pledged huge amounts of money. I really loved the specs for the S5, and the battery life.
That is until I heard about the LG G3. This phone is amazing. You know how a phone no matter how good it is, always has just one major fault? Sadly the only thing keeping the G3 from being the "perfect" phone is the QHD screen. Although I consider it a fault, this is also a plus, I would much rather have 1080p and the extra screen battery time, thank god for my extra batteries and charger, I swear I get total phone anxiety paranoia if I don't have a removable battery. However I am getting 35-40 hours between charges, but thats only when I have about 3 hours screen time in that span. I run at 50% brightness, and the screen gulps battery. Other than that the battery is amazing! This is without using ART too. This thing would last days without the QHD screen.
Did anyone ever figure out what apps needed to be freezed to get ART functioning?
I wonder if Adam Outler would be willing to look at this phone.

Well I've heard it's only among Verizon variants so probably a Verizon app that's causing it, I wanna know what type of crash it is
And even if ART worked, I couldn't use it yet. I use apps that have compatability issues
It's easy to debug an error, if I had a recovery I would take the fall and see what's causing issues on ART for us but I've already had to factory reset once and I don't wanna do it again

Lets See What We Can Do
Ok well I have seen some posts from different people about various RE skills so lets get to work and do this thing. I have done this kind of thing before but have never pulled apart an android image. I know PBL boots SBL1 boots SBL2 and RPM but I do not know the addresses that these are loaded into and executed from. I have attached the SBL1.idc file that will create the IDA database for the SBL1. This needs to be base relocated to the correct address but that is an easy adjustment when we know where to put it.
One of the first things the SBL does is switch to various ARM modes (supervisor, fiq, irq, etc) and sets the stack pointer to 0xF8002000 from there is branches off to 0xF8041F00 (thumb) but since I do not know the memory map I cant track that down. Also it looks like there is some relocation code in there. Code that copies chucks to other locs. There also appears to be some signatures near the end of the file.
If anyone can help me flesh out the database that would awesome. Even loading addrs info would be great. By the way their are a ton of juicy strings in there , this makes the process of RE much easier.
N.B.
I did not create the Stack segment yet as I want make sure this is loaded to the correct address first. There may be some gaps in code still (like the very middle, but I think that is all supposed to be relocated) but it is mostly all disassembled.

Considering Autoprime reposted it, I consider it good enough.

This is some very promising news! Fingers crossed!

I'll be the first to say.. My Body is Ready

me too man

I've read and re-read the Fast Boot method to TWRP for the International G3 and I'm ready for when this drops for us.
Hopefully the time that we all have waiting for this others on Verizon do the same since it's not as easy as just a button combo,!

I wonder if someone like Savoca could create a custom bootloader that we could replace the stock one with completely to just do whatever we want.

Starting to lose faith on development...

:-( If there was even a slight hint of hope regarding custom kernels and full bootloader unlock (without losing 4G), I know the devs would have already said so. Come September 16th, I'm getting the SGSII and my MoPho will be handed down to my son. Still a GREAT phone but development for it is still much to be desired. Want to flame? Go ahead, feel free. Still won't change the grim reality.

LOL! Just for fun. I hope you are wrong, but I think you might be right.
I came from the 3-d and wow, your right not much going on here. I am going to stick it out a while longer though and see if anything starts to burst.
Sadly...
I am starting to think that this may be as good as it gets.
Just run launcher 7 and pretend you're actually running wp7; thats why i do
This phone stock is the best experience ive EVER had on a stock phone. Im happy!
Ok thanks?

i warned yall that once teh sgs2 drops it will get even slower around these parts, shame too cuz this is a really nice phone.. just piss poor timing on sprints part.. not a huge surprise really coming from them. hell they had announced teh epic and sent it out to everyone and it wasnt until reviews came out that they threw up an ad having it alongside the evo
After owning the EVO all of last year I got over needing to flash a new ROM every few days. Stock is running so well for me I don't really care. We will get AOSP ported it will just be a matter of time. I would be tickled if MIUI got ported thereafter.
Once android.git.kernel.org comes back online I'm going to start porting CyanogenMod lol... I can't do any development if I can't get source code. And I'm not paying $200 for a new phone when the MoPho was only $100 and has >= specs.
Shut the hell up with all this complaining will get you know were in life. Suck it up and learn to be patient.. they will come..

I agree... patiences. IMO This phone rocks just on stock. But I trust aaht once things settle we will see more action here with dev. Better to have stable roms than things pouring out just because.
If not im happy.

Wow the Photon source code just got released last week on 8/30 and you are complaining about not having development done on the Photon? You must not have done development before because it takes lots of time and effort to test out all bugs. Also I would say 95% of the devs that do this are not doing this full time for a living but rather on their free time. Also the Photon has made huge progress without the source code in its first month including 1) root with docking station 2) root without docking station 3) unlocked bootloader when the stock bootloader is locked. What more do you expect right now.
Just be patient and wait a couple more weeks for things to come up. If you want to get the SGSII because you think all of a sudden there will be more support then be my guest. There is no secret that the devs need the source code before they can modify anything. With the SGSII coming out it'll be a while before the source code is released. You'll see how foolish this is.

I remember when you attempted to port webos to hero lol. I ran your roms on my heroc; you're a great dev man!! I hope you can do what you did on my heroc to the photon...
Every time I get a new phone, the first thing I do is install GoSMS, GoLauncher, and GoDialer. With this phone the only non blur app I use is GoLauncher. And the only reason I use it is because I like my app drawer organized into folders, and a 5x6 grid layout. This phone is as close to perfect out of the box as I thought was possible. And everything I don't like, they have an app to change. Just my 2 cents.

Coming from the Evo-shift... this is blazing fast. I'm having trouble keeping up. We didn't get root for at least a full month.
We better settle for enjoying the stock experience.
This phone will be the red headed stepchild. I like the stock experience, sans the bugs. We should accept it or get something else.

People like you are going to chase development away. They do this for a hobby. Not to please you. Who wants to work hard in their free time just to be complained about, rushed for eta's. Help out, not sit there and rush people so you can leach off there hard work. I hope you get your epic touch..... Good riddance.

Its funny

Its funny that when I first bought the phone alot of people on Xda were saying how slow and laggy it was and I was starting to regret my purchase but a couple of weeks later and im thinking to myself how fast my phone is. I guess what Im trying to say is if you want to buy a Note go ahead and do so and see for yourself if its laggy dont just take others words for it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA

I disagree I went from the Skyrocket and my Note was a lot slower and really laggy. I just swapped my Note for another one today and WOW this new one I got today is totally different. It is just as smooth and fast as my Skyrocket. If anybody is having performance issues you need to get it swapped out ASAP you will wish you had sooner.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
That's not really so funny.
I also came from the Skyrocket and initially thought the Note was fast. Than I came on Xda and alot of user were reporting on how slow their phones were. Than I started noticing lag every where. Now after not thinking about it for awhile I dont notice the lag anymore. So my point is that by others saying how bad it was I started seeing the same0, whether it was there or not.

I have the note, although it is the international version.
When I first got it, it had just a little lag here and there. I don't use touchwiz, I use go launcher. I've had 4 updates, now at 2.36, LB2 and this last update (got it Thursday night) made this thing smooth with ZERO lag. Even scrolling apps in the app drawer, which, would lag for maybe 1-2 flips, then smooth out, is smooth as
silk with zero lag.
I lost root some time back, so it isn't a root issue, but perhaps on the at&t version it has to do with the bloat apps that run all the time?

okay not bashing here so dont take this wrong but I'm just trying to wrap my head around this statement, so you pay $300+ for your device but dont expect stock ROM performance to be any good?...seriously? I dont understand why someone wouldn't of course, and if it did underperform (mine runs fine) as a consumer you have every right to take it back. I think alot of people lose sight of the fact that it's still a PHONE that can now do amazing things that you would not have had the luxury of just a few short years back. And granted, the awesome development we enjoy through these forums does improve quality and enjoyment value of these devices to the point of maybe spoiling us as advanced users, but remember the vast majority of consumers of these devices are typical users and to them (and me) the Note on GB/Touchwiz although not a perfect machine is still an amazing device right "out of the box".

It is an amazing device but the Carrier$ load it down with u$ele$$ and unnece$$ary $oftware to $queeze more money from you. In the process the Bloatware DOES in fact hinder the performance as they run even when you don't launch them yourself. By getting rid of the bloatware you are unleashing the true potential of this beast of a phone.
Think of it this way... If you bought say a Subaru WRX STi and when you went to go pick it up and it had a bunch of useless Car Dealer stickons and random crap that hindered the performance, you are saying you wouldn't be upset ?

Very true. I'd probably be using an iphone if it weren't for the DEVs here. Sad that we need them to unlock the full potential of our devices. We also get better support from them than the companies that make them. A great example of that is the HP Touchpad.
Support your local DEVs. I do so by adding to their beer/coffee funds. Coffee is better as it keeps them up longer to work on things

Hah thanks for the laugh xD
Anyway, I should have worded that differently: "Have you flashed a ROM that helps with the multitasking issue".
Most of them do, but if you don't want to flash a ROM some people reported that if you change the setting within developer options to 'At most 4 processes' for the background process limit it helps alleviate this issue.
This is by far my biggest problem with this phone. From what I've heard, stock ICS doesn't have the same issue.
Yeah, it pisses me off when I scroll through a list and go out of the window, ONLY to have that damn list reload back to the first item.
There HAS to be a way to get rid of that permanently if stock ICS phones don't have this problem?
Yeah, the multitasking is the only issue I have with this phone. Reminds me of the fail WP7 has with multitasking :/
Yeah a lot of the issues with this phone can only be alleviated through rooting it and flashing a custom rom. As I stated in another thread with my opinions of this phone and the pros/cons, this phone requires the user to root it in order to have a pleasurable experience.

Which is really disappointing. We shouldn't have to root in order to get things like this to work properly. If HTC is going to place a button dedicated to a specific function on their phones, you'd think that function would actually work.

No one is arguing against it, we are merely providing solutions to the problem. Furthermore, if we want to nitpick the button isn't a 'multitasking' one, it simply brings up a recent apps list. That being said I do hope HTC fixes this. It seems to affect all the Sense 4.0 phones. I know the One X has this problem by simply looking at their forum and from what I tested the One S at T-Mobile while helping my parents get a new phone, it seems that the S also has the same problem.
Rooting and flashing roms hasn't fixed my multitasking issues..I think its a deeper sense issue..I've manually adjusted min free settings with no luck..so Im assuming that its Kernel related buried deep..its my only gripe with this otherwise perfect device..and some people actually like its killing of apps..although it doesn't seem to free up any extra ram ...edit - hasn't the issue been resolved with the att hox with an ota? I thought I saw that somewhere
Yep rooted and romed. I dont want to say which one because u don't think it matters. Non of it would bother me so much if my new phone wasn't slower than my old one. Kinda sucks to have full signal but can't load a Page, stick it in my pocket it becomes a hand warmer and the battery is dead next time I use it.

The worst is when I play Sega's Sonic Adventure app or open up stumble upon and every single time I go back to the home screen, sense has to reload. I've never experienced that with my Xoom.
Are the ROMs effective at fixing the multitasking issue? That, ps3 bluetooth, and otg support would be the only major reasons I'd root my phone (maybe titanium backup too for contingency). I'm not root shy, my OG EVO was rooted two weeks after I got it, but, in the long run, everything seems more consistent when running completely stock, and I can pretty much find an app for everything I need.
Also, do you guys think that if we send in enough complaints that HTC would get its act together for the jelly bean update?

Return it, get a Gnex on Verizon. Problem solved.
I'll also have to agree that rooting and. A custom rom still don't do much to alleviate the issue. Chrome still reloads every time I come back. It's baffling because we can blame it on sense, but sense has ALWAYS been bloated, but the evos before this didn't have such an issue. I was saying I didn't want a gsiii, but this may push me to get one

It's baffling because we can blame it on sense, but sense has ALWAYS been bloated, but the evos before this didn't have such an issue. I was saying I didn't want a gsiii, but this may push me to get one

I don't find sense 4 very bloated at all actually. When sense 4 was ported over to the Sensation, it didn't have this multitasking issue, which is leading me to believe that there will be a fix soon for it.

Wish I had kept GB..

I dunno. It looks pretty. The UI is very quick and snappy. The battery life is worse, my phone has random reboots every couple of days, i lose connectivitity randomly throughout the day and I want watch flash embedded videos..
My phone fit my lifestyle quite nicely 7 days ago... Now I'm stuck with something that is no better than my Droid X2.. Oh wait, its prettier...
yah, the bug thread in particular is unsettling. i think i'm going to stay with GB for a while. I wish there was a downgrade path so could try ICS OTA out.
Are you using the full OTA update or a leak?
Full OTA .211 - didn't mess around with leaks or sideloading to try and avoid some of these issues.
I agree i get worse battery life on ics ota. I liked GB i got the maxx for the battery life all the bells and whistles are just ehhhh. On the other hand there seems to be an update that popped up tgis am maybe it will help.

Where is news on this update? I can't find anything on it.
I love ics,i had battery issues at first then i noticed that my set cpu and juice defender settings had reverted back too default,I reset them and now battery is just as good as it was before the ota.

Complain ICS isn't released soon enough, Motorola rushes to release ICS with minor bugs, then complain about the bugs and avoid the update.

the root of the problem here is moto's refusal to unlock the BL. then we could all run whatever we wanted without fear of hard brick or being stuck forever on a particular OS. So long as moto management keeps it up, they deserve our complaints - and our scorn. Please google, just fire ALL management at moto, and give the engineers big raises! the engineers are the best on earth, the management a bunch of smug asshats.

What? You're going to blame people being upset with this update on Motorola not unlocking the bootloader? I know a lot of people are upset that Motorola is locking down their devices, and I am one of them, but people are throwing around the locked bootloader as the excuse for every problem on many of Motorola's devices. The problem here is NOT the bootloader. Yes, it would allow some people to not fear upgrading or downgrading unofficially as much, but just as many would be more afraid because with such a great power comes great responsibility. The bootloader unlocks more potential for the phone, but it also unlocks more potential to brick it (sure, depending on how you brick it, it may be easier to undo, but I remember on HTC devices that if you mess up your recovery partition, that's the end of your phone. Not sure if it's the same on Motorola phones, this is only my second one and both have had locked bootloaders). This has nothing to do with poor management or their decisions to put certain restrictions on their devices; it has to do with Motorola releasing ICS under pressure from the community so that they'd meet their Q2 release date, and then when there are minor issues in the ICS release (which may be major for some people, but everyone uses his/her phone differently) everyone starts complaining about them.

Is there a way to easily switch off 4g in the update? Are there any interface differences?

So... were you tricked into buying a Motorola phone? Did someone secretly switch some brand X unlocked phone with a Moto Droid Razr? Did you fail to do research before you spent money on a Razr?
Sounds like bandwagon-riding, to me. And sour grapes.

No visible differences. I use the "Phone Info" app when I want to switch off 4G.

I bought the best hardware available for cellular voice communication available today, engineered by engineers who obviously know how to do that better than anyone else. Corporate managers purposely cripple software, no one else does. I know the pricks in upper management better than you could guess and bailed out of that world to do something real. American corporate management pricks destroyed our industry, and now they've sifting through the ashes to find the last little pieces so they can destroy them too, in hopes of banging their secretary a few more times and maybe buy one more new Porsche. I think more than a few of the lateral hires at google know what (and who) i'm talking about, and i'm sure they're reading these threads.

Airplane mode.
If you want to go deeper than Airplane Mode, you will have to create a customized firmware for it. Here is a link to a thread in the Captivate (SGH-i897) forum about turning the captivate into something like an Ipod Touch. It may give you and idea of what would be involved.

I exactly wanted to do that, but I am no developer, I wish someone could do that
I would have done it myself if I had the knowledge
isn't there a simple way so that they cell standby wont even get started and just disappears

No, but if you have the time, following that thread would be a good way to get into light development. Essentially, all you have to do is take someone's existing firmware distribution, and do some relatively easy modifications. You would have to learn the tools and how to use them. If you can contact the author of that thread, he said he is willing to show someone what modifications to make. It may still apply on our phone.
Problem is that if someone doesn't have an interest, they are not going to do something for someone else. Maybe if you offered a bounty, someone might take it up.

I'll give whatever support I can. I don't know the tools real well, but I've played with some of them a little, and I do know some windows programming and some other stuff.
Edit: Did a little looking around. You probably will not hear back from the original poster as he appears to be inactive on xda for most of the last year. Here is his original thread which has basic instructions for removing the phone components on the Captivate. This might work on this phone. I think the second thread was to make the interface more pretty.

I never did listen from him as u said. Hmmn but i did visit this thread and did as he did which was quite very simple to be honest. I deleted the phone and telephony apk and csc file. And all other files which were related to phone activities in one or other way.
And well with that the cell stand by went away...
Now i get yellow phone signals
Anyways their is mo cell standby in battery drain
But all is not well i get kernel wakelocks which are keeping my phone awake and draining battery like hell when in standby or screen off...

How do i get rid of this svnet
Svnet i read this wakelock gets active for 6 secs when the phone is looking searching for signals.
And also do anyone know how to uninstall the modem in my phone thanks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Uninstall the modem or flash a new one? You can turn air plane mode on if you want to turn off signal and data when you're in a bad coverage area.
Airplane mode not an option...
How to uninstall the modem.....

Just flash the new one over it in cwm. It replaces the one currently there everytime you flash a new one.
