Power button failed. Unrooted/locked, ran out of power. - HTC Droid DNA

A friend of mine got an under-warranty replacement for his first DNA a couple of weeks ago, but now the replacement's power button is pretty much unusable. He has another replacement coming, but in the meantime, I directed him to an app that would use the volume buttons to wake up the phone.
Of course, the app used more power - and my friend accidentally let the battery drain to the point of shutting down. The only thing he can do (that we know of) is connect it to power, giving him the pseudo-recovery charging screen.
Short of anything that would void the warranty, is there anything my friend can do to squeeze a little more life from the phone until the replacement arrives?
The replacement phone arrived, so after trying a few things and failing, my friend decided to give up and shipped the old phone back to Verizon. Thankfully, he had a slightly-old backup of all his unsynced data on his laptop.

Had to get my phone replaced!

Had to get my one day old Nokia 800 replaced today.
Got everything setup last night and decided to power it off just to give it a restart. The phone would refuse to power back on. No amount of button pushing/reconnecting to the power would make it start up again. No power, nothing..dead.
I managed to get it to restart after performing the three button reset. No problem I thought maybe just a one off. Turned the phone off and put it on charge overnight and this morning the same problem returned.. Could not power on. This time the reset would not work at all, no matter how many times I tried.
Carphone warehouse swapped it over in store today for another handset. Hopefully I'll have more luck with the replacement.
Edit: already seen someone else mention a similar problem on here. Hope there's not a bigger issue.
How do you perform the three button reset? My phone randomly decided to turn off whilst I was driving and now it wont turn back on
Yes I've been in that spot as well. For five minutes the phone wouldn't respond to any power button press. Long, short, whatever. I was already starting to slide into panic mode when it suddenly came back alive on another short press.
It's not the only hardware problem I've encountered, I also have problems with touchscreen and buttons and a loose part inside the device.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2-i777 Spontaneously Rebooting - Power/Unlock Button Not Working

Hi, my Samsung Galaxy S2 (i777 from AT&T) had been spontaneously rebooting every few minutes in the last few days. (FYI, I am using the unlocked phone outside the US. Currently running Android 2.3.6). I have been charging the phone with my USB cable lately (which might have caused the problem), and it doesn't recognize the device anymore.
When the repeated restarting started, then I somehow managed to delete some recently updated apps/new updates, and the restarting stopped for a while before returning the next day.
Then finally, the power button just stopped working altogether. For unlocking the screen - I now have to either plug in/disconnect from the charger, when it beeps & lights up, and then I can use the phone. I have tried using apps such as: Fix Broken Power to at least maintain the usability, but the app only seems to work after I plug the charger in/out, so it isn't any help.
I guess the power button could've died & need replacing, since the device is almost 2 years old. But before taking the phone to a mobile-phone repair shop, I wanted to check if there is any other option for fixing the issue (without doing a factory reset). Also, please advise any alternative screen unlocking app for using in the meantime.
Thanks in advance!
Replacing the power button is extremely easy, I wouldn't spend the money to send it off. All you'd have to do is take the cover of, remove a few screws and pop the new button in. Takes about 4 minutes.
An alternative is to root your phone, upgrade your firmware to 4.1+ and use either the AJK or STI kernel; they both use Stweaks, which has a slide2wake feature that allows you to wake the screen up without using the power button.

Thanks SteveMurphy! That was some good advice. But since I'm not very technically sound, so I took it to a repair shop. After keeping it for one day, they said that, the power button is fine, but the internal processor is having problems (probably because I've been charging it with a USB cable), and they quoted a pretty high amount for replacing it. What's more annoying is that, the battery went dead since it wasn't charged while it was with them, and over 24 hours of charging (after I got it back) didn't bring my phone back to life. At least before I could use it while it was plugged in to the charger, but now its all darkness. I'm thinking of taking it to my local Samsung Service Center, and I can see it costing a fortune, if it can at all be fixed. Very upsetting.

Z7 mini all of a sudden died on me

My phone went black just after lunch despite having close to a full battery charge. I haven't been able to start it back up since. No response on holding down Power or touching the menu button.
Previously this has happened once or twice when the phone overheated. I was always able to get it back up after some time. This time however, I've gone so far as to disassembling the back cover and disconnecting the battery but to no avail. Charging it doesn't seem to do anything.
Any tips or should I consider this DOA?
Use your warranty
True, I could do that. But that would involve sending the complete phone to China with all my data on it.
Besides, warranty is kind of void after me opening the thing up and concluding that the battery isn't charging. Ordered a new one for $10.
Good luck

Power button not working

Brand new s3.
power button doesn't seem to work. Anyone else?
not a known issue, take it back.
You realise you need to hold the POWER button down for a length of time?
Same problem. I haven't installed any apps or anything not either previously installed on another phone or tablet. Button isn't stuck, just totally unresponsive. Guess a trip to best buy is in my future
Add me to the list. My power button stopped working a few days ago.
I thought mine had died until I realised the batter had gone flat but I'm quite sure that's not the issue here.
Yea happened to me too. Maybe some water spilled. If not you have been abusing the power button. Better get a sleep wake cover like a finite and don't let the battery die. Power button issues went away after a few hours. Trick is to keep insisting the tab that power button still works don't give up.
Also press it in centre don't go wayward while pressing.
If you got issue with power button and got warranty get it changed for a replacement device... DO NOT GO FOR REPAIR SAME DEVICE.
Also if you connect charger and remove and connect trick is to learn how it works tab s3 should turn on without power button required. Just make sure you got that fingerprint unlock also keep screen timeout less if u don't have auto sleepwake cover

I've changed the Power Button, but it kept not working

Hi, there! Last year I was using a Vibe K5, but I bought another one because of this problem: all of nowhere the Power Button stopped working. I did factory reset, I've bought a new "strap" with the volume and power button on it, changed, perfectly. But, even though I did all of this, the volume kept working, the power button don't.
Today I decided to try another search on Google and save this phone, but again... nothing.
Any help on this?
Hey, don't know if this of help at this point. This is a common problem with this model. I was facing the same issues and even purchased the same volume and power button strip but I soon realised that id got the wrong one. I took it to the repair shop and after fiddling around a little bit worked on The same damaged strip and brought it back to life. It took around 5 mins in total. I'd suggest you take it to a local repair person (although 90% of them will ask for a new strip) and ask them to fix it without you having to get a new one.
