Let me start with saying: I am really f**ked
I accidentally formatted system files using TWRP. So basically my MOTO E is kinda soft bricked. I did some research online and found some step by step guide to flash STOCK ROM, which will unbrick my mobile.
I downloaded the required firmware name: RETAIL-DSDS_CONDOR_KXC20.82-14_cid7_CFC_1FF.xml.zip which is for dual sim Indian variant.
Next I downloaded the mfastboot, and extracted all the files in a single folder.
The next step was to give command mfastboot.exe flash partition gpt.bin, but I am getting failed message saying <bootloader> Preflash Validation failed.
Why am I getting this error and how to fix it??

did you download and apply a ROM from your region? If you google for this fault you will find discussion in Moto G forum stating that you must flash a firmware from your region.
For Moto E you can find the selection of Firmwares here: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=34

Yes the firmware is for my region. I even checked it by getting the version code out of my device. One forum post hints that since I had upgraded my device to 4.4.4 android and the firmware available is 4.4.2, this may be the cause of error. Any ideas?

If u can access twrp by any reason just wipe data dalvik and system cache, and just follow this thread for xt1022 and download the deodexed version.

You'll get updates but they won't install as it is modified stock ROM.

There are methods to receive OTA updates once available. You can read in this forum . there are lot of post regarding it. but the deodexed version you are using is 4.4.4. Just dont try to downgrade to other versions like 4.4.2. It will mess up your mobile pretty well. just a advice. :cyclops:

Seriously why would even do that ?
Anyways even if your device turns on or gets recognized in fastboot then you're in luck. Grab a stock lollipop firmware zip from xda and flash it with extreme care.
Here's a word of caution. NEVER EVER try to downgrade your device bootloader.

I am on the same Chinaretail rom that you mentioned.
Also, I am in China right now.
I had the pop up notification for this update for several weeks now.
but when I try to update, it says ...
"E:failed to verify whole-file signature"
"E:signature verification failed"
I am not sure what is the problem, i tried ... did the hard reset and everything.
I also tried the update that you and bliss have uploaded on different links.
I really need this update, as my phone has problems with a lot of applications, mainly games.
Please help me fix this, will be much appreciated.

No, I actually bought it in China only. And I never changed any roms, just upgraded to the official 4.0.4 chinaretail upgrade.

Removed sim lock.
Bootloader is locked and cannot be unlocked.
The Cricket 4.4.4 ROM is crippled with all tethering options disabled. PDANet works for USB tethering, but not for Wifi

BUMP! This is becoming quite a common phone (for 50$ it's a great deal). However the locked bootloader is quite a roadblock for those (like me) who go crazy running stock firmware, whether it be so you can tweak your kernel settings for optimal battery life/performance, use xposed framework (gotta save those snapchats), use tethering apps or just so you can run Pimp My ROM..
I'm hoping that my post on this will draw some sort of attention to this issue.

That's the dual SIM model firmware. The firmware we would need on Cricket is the XT1021 model. XT1022 is Dual SIM, XT1025 is has built a in digital TV tuner hope this clears a bit up for ya.

hello guys, first of all excuse my english its not my main language. i really need your help! about a week ago, i unlocked the bootloader/rooted my moto e XT1021 and put cm12 nightly on it. after a couple of days, it asked me to do a cyanogenmod system update via OTA, so i did. but when it first booted the phone after that, it kept saying that the user UI crashed, everytime. so i couldn't go anywhere on my phone! I tried wiping cache and dalvik cache, nothing worked. so i wiped all the data on my phone and unroot it and put a stock firmware on it. at this point, i saw that i did not have any signal on my phone, but I taught it wasnt really important, so i re-rooted it and I flashed cm12 again. It worked great but i didnt have no service.. so i check on google and all that to see if i could fix this, i tried flashing the rom with TWRP and CWM, and it didnt change anything. I tried flashing an earlier version of the cm12 nightly, didnt work. now i put back the stock rom again, nothing is working! oddly, when i look in about phone > status, I CAN see my phone number and my IMEI are there. but it says that radio is off. for that, i tried doing *#*#4636#*#* in my dialer to go in the phone information menu to activate the radio, but nothing worked. and when i go to my quick settings, I can see that my airplane mode is off, but when i hold the power button and see the shut down options, it tells me that my airplane mode is on! You most probably flashed the wrong firmware for your device. You need to find the correct firmware or a firmware for the same region, e.g. if you have a UK version device then the EU firmware should work too, but if you flash the Brazilian firmware you will lose GSM signal. If you flash the wrong firmware version and then flash any custom ROM you will still not have GSM signal, so you need to flash the correct firmware and then the custom ROM.
If you are unsure which is the correct firmware for your device, go to bootloader mode, open command window (cmd.exe) and enter the following:

hi, my device is a canada variant, and when i enter the command i get this : Blur_version.20.11.15.condor.retu
and i tried to download the stock firmware from the site sbf.droid-developers but whenever i try to go on the site it says file not found ect... i cant find a download for the canadian variant of my phone!!

You didn't paste the complete version so i can't read it (version is broken in 2 lines).
Is it RETCA XT1023? If yes try flashing this.

That is a retail US variant, not sure if it's XT1023 or XT1021 though, you can find out by reading the label on the box of your device.
You can find the stock firmwares for US devices here.

alright thanks im downloading the us variant for the xt1021, if it doesnt work im gonna try the xt1023 one, the download is slow so it'll take a while but i'll let you know the results! if this work man your a hero lol

Actually i'm not a hero, in fact i was in the same boat as you. I didn't have the stock ROM (or its details) for my device when i flashed CM11 so when i wanted to return to the stock ROM i found an XT1021 US stock ROM thinking that because it's XT1021 it should work on my GB device, i flashed it and the outcome was: no GSM signal. Then i posted in the thread i shared in my previous post and the OP (lost101) found the GB stock ROM for me, i flashed it and got GSM signal back.

hello again, on my box it says XT1023 and I try the us retail version which is : RETUAWS_XT1023_4.4.4_KXC21.5-53_cid9_CFC.xml and it doesn't work. now I am downloading the canada retail version : RETCA_XT1023_4.4.4_KXC21.5-40_cid14_CFC.xml.zip and I hope it will work

Hi, I have simillar problem with my moto e (xt1022 - french version). I already tried a lot of stock versions of Kitkat, Lolipop and CM 11.

Sorry, i don't have Moto E or G anymore. BTW you are posting in MOTO E XT1021 forum, XT1068 and XT1072 are Moto G 2nd gen.
Hello friends. I wanna revert back to stock from lineage os, but my nandroid backup for stock rom seems to have corrupted, it just wont boot. Since yesterday i have been looking for stock firmware for my Indian version of Moto Z, looked various sites but i couldn't find the retail india rom (nougat) for Moto Z . Am I missing something? any Indian brother here who got success in flashing stock rom on their indian version of moto z? If yes, then please tell me about the correct rom to flash. I've a brand new phone, cant afford to brick it while flashing incorrect rom.

I don't think OTA will brick your phone as updates will be according to your firmware version not according to region.

It will not, BUT on what bootloader version do you are?
If you are on Nougat BL, flashing MM will brick your device...
I couldn't find nougat version of Retin or Retasia. So i held my breath and went ahead with the US 7.1.1 firmware on my Indian device. To my delight, the flashing process went super smooth with no errors. (skipped flashing partition and bootloader though). On booting up i received OTA update of October patch. Accepted it. Now the software version in 'About Phone' under settings shows as 'Retin' and it's working great so far. (please note that i have an unlocked bootloader)

I have bought a new motherboard from aliexpress. and it turns out the board is a VS990 with H901 5.1 installed on it.
Its working like a charm now I received the OTA update to android 6 but I am very scared to go ahead with the update as it will most probably brick the phone. Has anyone experienced same situation? Do i go ahead and let it do the OTA update? If not is there anyway I can install Nugget on my (Half / Half) setup ?
I will very much appreciate the help please.

before you install the update, check weather is rooted or not, if rooted update will stop, otherwise it will update the phone, i'm having att phone i updated manually, update was messed up my phone, now phone its 6.0 but errors on my phone, if you are not sure what you doing, please don't updated.

Thank you but my issue is not work root. My phone it's not rooted. My board is a VS900 verizon board but the FW is t mobile. That is why i am worried to accept the OTA.

Its working like a charm now I received the OTA update to android 6 but I am very scared to go ahead with the update as it will most probably brick the phone. Has anyone experienced same situation? Do i go ahead and let it do the OTA update? If not is there anyway I can install Nugget on my (Half / Half) setup ?

My motherboard also had vs990 printed on it but the "t" link is soldered. So my v10 is a h901, which makes sense since I bought mine from my local T-Mobile store right after release.
If you plan on rooting do not take the ota. It is much easier to root on 5.1 (10c), the fastboot commands are still intact. All updates after 5.1 get more difficult to root. Once rooted there is twrp flashable .zip in the development forum to safely bring you to the latest 7.0 update (30c) and is also a full firmware update.

Did you take apart your phone and verify your soldered link?
Do you have twrp 3.2.1 installed?

First I have already installed TWRP recovery for LG V10 H901 (File: twrp-2.8.7.1-h901.img & SuperSU v2.56 and now i am rooted.
Second I am sure now even without looking at the Link that my board is a H901 else I think the boot loader would have never been simply unlocked. Dont you agree?

SuperSU is abandoned. TWRP 2.8.7.1 can't flash nougat, you'll need to upgrade to the 3.2.1 I linked but will only have to flash the .zip from TWRP. SuperSU will get removed when you flash the system updates so then you should have no problem installing magisk, just do a factory reset in TWRP after you do the updates before magisk to remove and data from SuperSU that my be left.
Your 2nd point is dead on, the h901 is the only US carrier branded v10 that can be bootloader unlocked. True vs990's were locked down tight in true Verizon fashion.

Looking the posts you shared i understand that i cant upgrade 5.1 directly to nugget.. Corrent me if i am wrong. If not then which 6.0 should i flash using rtwp? And can i upgrade instead of wiping over the rooted 5.1? I would love to keep my apps and setting.

That's the point of these twrp flashable updates, to update without wipeing . For the Android 6.0 updates use the part 1 (firmware) and part 2 (system, boot) 20L files in this thread.

It is still heavily suggested to wipe when changing major Android versions. Minor updates within the same version don't cause too much trouble, but data structure varies between major version updates. All this being said some people don't have problems with dirty (no wipe) flashes.

I dont understand why this happened . I followed the exact steps .. Downloaded Part 1 L and Part 2 L
Flashed part 1 with TWRP and did not reboot. Then flashed Part 2.. Then rebooted.. Now my phone doesnt even turn on.
This must be a hard brick.. I cant even go into TWRP any more .. and no logo appears.. the phone is detected on PC as QSUSB_BULK

There are a few threads that discuss recovering from bricked 20J software that you could try. (20L is said to be the only software that can downgrade, but only to 20J) Most people had LG do warranty exchange. This is the frustrating part of LG phones, how easy LG made it to brick if you didn't fully read up on what you were doing.

Hi Skywalker
I tried the image sd card method provided by tungkick and i could go to download mode. I uses 20j tot and flashed succesfully but phone keeps looping lg logo and verdication fail message in red.. you think this the wrong firmware? Whats the next step?
