hey guys, i have a galaxy s2 here (gt-i9100) with non working volume keys and stuck in bootloop. i need to do the wipes but i cannot access recovery. HOWEVER, i made a really poor version of the jig (which totally works, btw) and i can access download mode. i have some questions
1) is there a way to reboot into recovery (i'm planning to flash twrp as it is touch based) from download mode? it doesn't matter if i have to flash things with odin
2) if i can't, is there a way to wipe data / factory reset from odin?
3) if i use a custom PIT and repartition won't it be the same as if i was wiping?
4) where's waldo
5) if i remember correctly i saw a custom kernel which enabled adb usage while the phone was still off but charging through a usb port in a computer. am i high?
thanks in advance
If I am correct you can use adb commands from Download Mode... Try flashing with odin TWRP or CWM with touch input and type on the Command Prompt "adb reboot recovery".. If you need anything else I am here..
well i got it working somehow, after installing stock rom i installed kernel dorimanx v8.43 it still got booloop but the adb commands were reaching the phone so i restarted to recovery and restored a paranoid android backup i had and it's working perfectly

Hi,
I have a SGS2, I was trying to get rooted but it didn't seem to work. I flashed the rooted kernel and during the process it said that /sdcard couldn't be mounted. I rebooted and some root functionality seemed to be possible. Rom Manager would start and clockwork manager was generating lots of SU prompts. When I restarted the phone again though, all this was gone and I was getting "SU binary not found".
I tried flashing the kernel again but no change. Seemed that something had messed up in the rooting procedure and after a bunch of googling I couldn't figure out what.
So I booked into CWM and after reading instructions here for doing a full wipe, I did a factory reset, system wipe, cache wipe and dalvik cache wipe.
I'm now a bit stuck and feel a bit stupid for not thinking ahead. What do I need to flash (in Odin I guess?) to get my phone running again.
Eventually I want to run the CM9 nightlies via RomManager, but how I get from my current wiped state to being rooted on any rom and then able to run rommanger I don't know.
At the moment my phone just boots to the SGS logo + yellow triangle.
Any help really appreciated. Thanks
Hi, can you identify your phone to be an i9100 or i9100G?
If your phone can boot into recovery, get the correct version here for i9100 or i9100G. Use adb to push the flashable zip into your sdcard, then install it from there.
If cannot enter recovery, try boot into download mode, flash CF-Root with ODIN, you should be able to get into recovery after that. Follow the instruction above to get CM9.

Thanks for helping me - much appreciated
I'm pretty sure my phone is a i9100.
I could get into recovery mode, (CWM v5.0.2.7) but when the phone was plugged into my computer via usb, I got the message that the device had malfunctioned so I flashed CF-Root (CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5) again. I've still got the same issue.
I've never used adb to transfer files, but I tried something called Quick ADB Pusher - but it doesn't recognise my device (presumably because the reported malfunction means I'm not connected). Assuming this is my own oversight, is there a good idiot-proof guide to using ADB to get the CM9 onto the phone for installation via CWM.
Thanks
Since you're not confident with adb, I would suggest flash Siyah kernel 4.1.5 tar version with ODIN. It is the latest supported version for ICS. The CWM recovery that comes with it support USB storage mount, with this you can simply boot into recovery, mount USB storage, and then transfer the cm9 flashable zip file with your computer.

Thank-you so much - this worked perfectly for me
Just in case anyone is reading this and knows even less than me - this is exactly what I did:
1. Downloaded Siyah kernel
2. Flashed using Odin (reboot in download mode, select the siyah tar file in the "pda" box of Odin and press start.
3. Reboot phone into recovery mode, did factory data wipe as instructed on siyah install page.
4. In recovery mode selected mount/storage options, then mount usb storage - then plugged phone into laptop.
5. After driver installed, the phone appeared in "my computer"
6. I deleted everything and dragged CM-10 rom zip file and google apps zip file (available from CM10 thread) onto phone.
7. Exited usb mode on phone and then used the install from zip on internal SD card to install first CM10 rom, then gapps.
8. Rebooted.
All done Thanks again.
Hello Guys...
I was trying to install BotBrew on my samsung Galaxy S3 and it didn't work. While i was unistalling the app the phone crashed and now the system looks dead.
I entered recovery mode (TWRP) and i can access about everything, but there aren't no more files under directory like "system" and "data".
I tried connect odin by the recovery with the option "mount usb drive" but odin doesn't find the phone.
What can i do now?
My phone settings:
JellyBean 4.2 Stock, ROOTED
Stock Kernel
TWRP v2.4.4.0
Do you have I9300 ??
Restore your Nandriod backup as first option .
jje
The problem is that i don't have a nandroid backup, i lost it with the PC formatting and forgot to make another one :crying:
Can you enter in Download Mode using 3 buttons combo?
If yes, connect to odin and flash a stock firmware
Yes i could.
But anyway i installed Cyanogenmod with the recovery and it works...
I don't know why i didn't remember that odin need the "Download Mode" and not the Recovery, well I'm a noob!
Thank you anyway guys!
EDIT:
It's gone again...
I set it in Donwload Mode and flash the official rom to get it back. ANd now it doesn't boot, keep on screen "Samsung".
yes, you need to do a factory reset from recovery for it to boot
Hi
A friend of mine asked me to help with his old phone. He wanted to hand his phone to his children, but he can't remember the passwort he entered once.
It is a complete stock phone. No ADB activated.
But the main problem is, that I can't enter recovery mode. I am very familiar with flashing phones and so on and know what to do, but I really can't enter the recovery mode. At least I can enter download mode (not as good as normaly, it often doesn't work, but I can).
Has somebody an idea how I can reset the phone with Heimdall or Odin? I also tried to flash a new recovery (CWM, CWM touch, stock) and the Stock ROM, but I still can't enter recovery mode (volume rockers seem to work, also home button) .
@Pflunz thats odd. So even flashing siyah kernel out of my head still doesnt allow you to boot into recoverymode? Because the S2 has recovery and kernel for system builtin.
Try to maybe flash gingerbread for the s2 first and it will probably work.
After you have flashed gingerbread and try to boot into system. If that works then you can root it and flash recovery. And boot into recovery from your rom.
You can do the same with jellybean stock instead of gingerbread. Read odin guide cause you can reflash stock with odin and it should be okay. Are you also flashing it for the right model?
I dont own anymore the S2 so I cant talk out of direct experience anymore.
I hope also for you that someone who is current in the s2 community can help you with this problem goodluck :good:
Just like the title says stuck on boot loop (stock rom) and my volume up button broken so i cant access recovery at all , And adb shows no devices however odin can see the phone So i cant use (adb reboot recovery)
Any way to access recovery ? Or i'm just trapped there?
Flash recovery through Odin. It may boot directly into recovery. Did your button break after you flashed the phone? Are you 100% sure it's broken? I've cracked open an S3 and it's not an easy thing to break.
Use the latest tar from: https://dl.twrp.me/i9300/
Worst comes to worst, reflash stock - root/flash recovery, and then make sure you follow through with the process correctly. I managed to mod an unmodded i9300 4.1.3 to rooted/MM/recovery/F2fs in under an hr.

It boots to system , And Any stock i flash from odin boot loop too as it needs factory reset from recovery (which i can't do)
Hello everyone. First of all I need to emphasize that I'm currently in an english couse so if you find some mistakes in my writing, you'll know why.
The reason I'm here today asking for your help is that I recently bought a second hand SGS3 and the volume up doesn't work and I want to enjoy my phone the way it has to be enjoyed, so i've been searching how can I reboot the phone into recovery mode via cmd, and I did it, but now I need to know how can i root my phone with the stock recovery, because I can't find nothing that use that stock recovery, all is with odin or a different recovery, I've seen that philz recovery it's installed via stock R or something like that, but I don't know which version to install. I have an S3 I9300 with 4.3
You can use a USB jig to force the phone into download mode and then flash cfautoroot with Odin.
You need download mode to root. Once in download mode you need to flash chainfire autoroot (i9300 version) via odin on a pc, then you can flash an official clockwork recoverymod recovery to your phone via odin. Reboot the phone and your done.
Beamed in by telepathy.
Another way to do this is to flash another OS like CyanogenMod via Odin.
But at first you'll have to convert the CyanogenMod installer zip to a file that can be flashed via Odin. CyanogenMod allows you to reboot to recovery directly from the OS using the reboot menu that's built in.
