[Q] Can't enter Recovery Mode, have to wipe phone - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
A friend of mine asked me to help with his old phone. He wanted to hand his phone to his children, but he can't remember the passwort he entered once.
It is a complete stock phone. No ADB activated.
But the main problem is, that I can't enter recovery mode. I am very familiar with flashing phones and so on and know what to do, but I really can't enter the recovery mode. At least I can enter download mode (not as good as normaly, it often doesn't work, but I can).
Has somebody an idea how I can reset the phone with Heimdall or Odin? I also tried to flash a new recovery (CWM, CWM touch, stock) and the Stock ROM, but I still can't enter recovery mode (volume rockers seem to work, also home button) .

@Pflunz thats odd. So even flashing siyah kernel out of my head still doesnt allow you to boot into recoverymode? Because the S2 has recovery and kernel for system builtin.
Try to maybe flash gingerbread for the s2 first and it will probably work.
After you have flashed gingerbread and try to boot into system. If that works then you can root it and flash recovery. And boot into recovery from your rom.
You can do the same with jellybean stock instead of gingerbread. Read odin guide cause you can reflash stock with odin and it should be okay. Are you also flashing it for the right model?
I dont own anymore the S2 so I cant talk out of direct experience anymore.
I hope also for you that someone who is current in the s2 community can help you with this problem goodluck :good:

Help Infuse4g Boots into cwm everytime?

Hello. I am new to the forum. I have a rooted Samsung Infuse 4g. I am a bit of a noob so please bare with me. I began having problems with the phone after I did a factory reset. Everytime I boot the phone now it brings me to clockwork mod recovery . Everything is written in red. Iv tried to do a recovery from here and I tried installing the rom from the my sd card and have had no luck. I cannot get into download mode either. How can I get my Droid running again?
Thanks in advance
If you can get into fastboot mode, download the .img file of any custom recovery for your phone, then use Android Flash Recovery to flash it. This will replace your CWM with a working version, which you can then use to flash a new ROM.

[Q] Potentially Bricked Samsung Galaxy SII

Hi there,
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 with the OS version ICS 4.0.4
Basically I read about my OS version having the superbrick bug in the kernel, and in order to root I needed to install a custom recovery partition (CWM) and then install custom ROMS, so I went ahead and downloaded CWM and then transferred the .tar over to my device with Odin, and Odin said all went well and it passed, next I went to root it with SuperOneClick (v2.2), so I fired that up and hit root, and all was well or so it seemed, SuperOneClick told me I had SU access, so I thought all had worked. I then started in recovery mode just to see if CWM was there and working correctly, however it was just the normal android one, no CWM - although it said Current Binary: Custom and Custom Binary Download: Yes (1 count). I quickly realised it had not rooted successfully when root checker told me it wasn't rooted, and CWM was missing and also that my video playback/camera screens weren't functioning properly - they were just black screens. So I hooked my phone back up to my PC and went to SuperOneClick and hit Unroot hoping all would be well, then when my phone started up again it gets stuck at the boot animation of the big 'S'.
So now I am stuck, I don't have CWM installed to perform a reset, and I don't think I can flash ROM's to my device directly in case it 'superbricks' due to the kernel bug, so I don't know whether I can just flash the stock ICS ROM back on
I am seriously annoyed with this, what can I do?
Any help is seriously appreciated
Thanks alot
Try finding your recovery menu (probably volume up+power from off) and wiping cache. If not, then try factory reset, also from stock recovery. If not, then i'd say you're gonna have to flash stock ICS. No help in your device's thread Q&a? My question is why was the CWM in .tar form? Usually it is an image..
Also, no help in SuperOneClick thread?

How do I wipe cache with the recovery menu? It is just the standard android recovery with "Volume up: Continue to download mode" or "Volume down: Cancel (restart phone)". Also would I be able to try and flash CWM again with a different file, and if it works I could perform a stock reset sort of thing? Could you link me to a reputable CWM file that will work so I can just shove the .tar in Odin and hit start. And I can't flash ICS as there is a high probability I have the superbrick bug
EDIT: The CWM Restore file for download for the SGSII here www (dot) clockworkmod (dot) com/rommanager are not in even in the correct format for flashing with Odin, what do I do??
Some recoveries allow a cache wipe, while others don't.. Recovery menu [if you've looked up how to access it on your particular device] most certainly should have a factory reset option as well, so im thinking you haven't found its menu.. Again, cwm should be in img format. .tar sounds like someone else's backup. If your inexperienced with what you're gonna need to do to fix your phone, i'd definitely say a warranty claim. I know someone that got a brand new sgsii just a week before her warranty ran out, due to the same issue.
And i've never used odin..look up a guy named samersh72 on the forum, and his threads.

Help: s2 with bootloop and non working volume keys

hey guys, i have a galaxy s2 here (gt-i9100) with non working volume keys and stuck in bootloop. i need to do the wipes but i cannot access recovery. HOWEVER, i made a really poor version of the jig (which totally works, btw) and i can access download mode. i have some questions
1) is there a way to reboot into recovery (i'm planning to flash twrp as it is touch based) from download mode? it doesn't matter if i have to flash things with odin
2) if i can't, is there a way to wipe data / factory reset from odin?
3) if i use a custom PIT and repartition won't it be the same as if i was wiping?
4) where's waldo
5) if i remember correctly i saw a custom kernel which enabled adb usage while the phone was still off but charging through a usb port in a computer. am i high?
thanks in advance
If I am correct you can use adb commands from Download Mode... Try flashing with odin TWRP or CWM with touch input and type on the Command Prompt "adb reboot recovery".. If you need anything else I am here..
well i got it working somehow, after installing stock rom i installed kernel dorimanx v8.43 it still got booloop but the adb commands were reaching the phone so i restarted to recovery and restored a paranoid android backup i had and it's working perfectly

Stuck boot loop and Volume Up broken (can't access recovery)

Just like the title says stuck on boot loop (stock rom) and my volume up button broken so i cant access recovery at all , And adb shows no devices however odin can see the phone So i cant use (adb reboot recovery)
Any way to access recovery ? Or i'm just trapped there?
Flash recovery through Odin. It may boot directly into recovery. Did your button break after you flashed the phone? Are you 100% sure it's broken? I've cracked open an S3 and it's not an easy thing to break.
Use the latest tar from: https://dl.twrp.me/i9300/
Worst comes to worst, reflash stock - root/flash recovery, and then make sure you follow through with the process correctly. I managed to mod an unmodded i9300 4.1.3 to rooted/MM/recovery/F2fs in under an hr.

S6-Edge stuck in TWRP recovery mode

Hello all,
Recently I bought the S8 Plus and I want to sell my S6 Edge, so I wanted to clean it first before actually selling it.
I rooted my phone before, I can't remember how or what software I used, I have a feeling it was Odin,
anyway, I cleaned up my phone by doing a factory reset from within Android's settings.
Since that moment, my phone is stuck in TWRP's Recovery mode.
I have multiple stock roms, but Odin is not able to make a connection with the phone, because I can't get into boot mode.
I've also read things about ADB Sideload, but that freezes up my phone.
Then I read about some command line to type in via the terminal, but that didn't work either.
Also trying to install stuck roms didn't do anything.
Does anyone have an idea how I can get my phone back into bootmode so I can load up Odin and put a stock rom on it?
Any help is greatly appreciated

Boot to Download from TWRP Recovery (Reboot - select - Download)
Fire-up Odin, flash one of your multiple stock roms.

That doesn't work either.
If I select Download, my phones freezes up.
Update:
I managed to update TWRP, making me able to go back to Download mode!
But, once I tried Odin to flash a stock rom, it failed.
Also, my KNOX Warrenty Void is set '1'.
Am I still able to install any roms or get this KNOX fixed?
Ghrane
If you have a PC, use samsung smart switch to re-initialize your device.
And you can not do anything for tripped knox.
