You can flash the updated Android L font available from this thread here if you are running KitKat and would like to try the new updated front. As far as Google updating KitKat with the new font, that will not likely happen. Let me know if you still have questions.

What device do you have? You can flash the font in either Clockworkmod Recovery or TWRP for your device, make sure to perform a backup in recovery before flashing the font just as it's a good practice to backup your device before making any changes. If you need me to explain further I'll be happy to do so.

Put the .zip file containing the font on your device sdcard, then boot into Clockworkmod Recovery. Once in recovery the first thing will be to perform the backup operation, select the backup and restore option then the backup option and wait for it to backup your device and make sure it completes successfully. After it says it has successfully completed, go back to the main Clockworkmod Recovery menu and select the install zip from sdcard option, then navigate to where you put the font .zip file and select to install that and then yes to confirm to install it. Upon successful installation, go back to the main menu and select reboot system now and the device will reboot and start up into the main Android OS. After it boots up fully the new font will have been installed.

i assume since it is rooted that you already have clockwork recovery installed.
hold power and vol down to boot into recovery
select wipe cache/factory restore
select install from zip
select the rom i showed you
reboot!
you must put the rom in the root of your tab first
use androzip to move it there

sorry but still a newbie here and i might get annoying to some peeps here but just very cautious on how this would work. so i'm going to ask question
factory restore - does this mean i'm going a clean up and unrooting my device? from the steps above? is the end product going to have the touchwiz update or is this the touchwiz update with a email sync problem? where does the touchwiz update happen? i didn't see that step above?
lastly.. is there a video i watch to see this in action.
galaxytabhacks.com is a bit slow on updating their video's on how to update a rooted GT 10.1 with touchwiz update...
thank you all for the current post and i'm sure that there are many users here that will appreciate this information.. (for all you do please post and cheer on the peeps that helped us out).

ok.. so go to clockwork recovery - i know how with that two options (icons by pressing those buttons)
make a backup - don't know how?
factory reset - i'll read up
install zip from sdcard - done it before
install - if i find it i'll select install
reboot - hopefully
so how does the backup work - any steps.. where can i find that option. thanks again for all these information..
in the main clockword recovery menu select back up and restore ...select backup
these are all in the main menu of cwr... dont worry about the wipe/factory restore just select it and do it.....make sure you put the new rom in the root of your tab first. just like you did with the root.zip when you rooted
put the new rom zip in your tab
boot into cwr
make a back up
do a wipe/factory restore
select install from zip
select choose zip
select the rom zip you downloaded and put in the root of your tab
install
reboot
this is from the first link i gave you
Here is the clockwork mod menu
- Reboot system now (self explanatory )
- Apply update from SDcard. (when you connect your device to your computer it will show up as tablet. The SDcard that cwm refers to is simply your device storage. Always make sure to copy install.zips to the root directory of your tablet storage.) You use this when applying an update for a specific ROM if that is what the ROM developer says.
- Wipe Data/ Factory Reset You should always do this before you install a new ROM or if you are having minor issues with your device.
- Wipe cache partition Think of this as the lite version of whats above . If you do above though it doesn't hurt to do this too.
- Install zip from SDcard Use this to install new ROMs.
- Back up and Restore
- Mounts and Storage use this to connect your device to your computer when in recovery mode. It is also possible to transfer files to your device while in this mode.
- Advanced What you are interested in here is something called dalvik cache, you want to wipe this too before installing any new ROM
- Power off
this is the main menu of clockwork recovery
backupand restore...wipedata/factory reset...install zip reboot are all on this menu

[Q] 100% Original Stock ROM backup before root?

Hi there,
I am new to xda and new to Android hacking.
What I wanna ask is, (I guess it's of most newbies concern as well), can we have a 100% backup of our system (stock ROM)? Obviously, it is important because:
If we perform an official (OTA) update to a new Android version. And we don't like it. It is possible to get back to the old original one which we are used to. (not everybody likes new things, and/or not every new thing is good)
If our phones are having some problems. And we have to give it back to the company for a fix. In most cases they will flash a new ROM for us. If we wanna keep using the old one (explained in #1), we have to keep a copy of it by ourselves.
If we want to try new custom ROMs, we may want to switch it back after trying.
Whenever we do any modifications, it's always better to keep a backup/roll-back point. In case anything goes wrong, we have a safeguard.
For the official warranty issue.
Yup I do see there are some official stock ROMs downloads for some particular phones. But those are not really a backup of our original ROMs. And it's always hard to verify if those downloads are the original official releases. And, if those downloads are 100% stock ROMs, this means some guys out there could make it, so what is the way to do so?
Or, how those mobile phone companies do it in their labs?
I have been doing researches on this topic for a few days. Some posts claim that their methods are "backup stock ROM" or "backup before rooting". But after digging into it, they requires rooting and/or flashing CWM. Here comes a few questions:
Questions
Rooting will in fact changes some files/data of the system. So backup after root is NOT getting the original stock ROM. Is it?
Is there a method to "un-root", so ALL the changes are TOTALLY reverted?
Installing/flashing things like CWM in phone requires rooting, which would make the ROM not original. Is there a way to extract the system backup from a computer externally?
In addition, I have found some related pieces. which could be useful to anyone viewing this post, and might be useful for you to solve this (my) question. :fingers-crossed:
* as I'm a new user, I can't post links directly. Please delete the blank spaces in between.
ht tp://www .modaco .com/topic/351269-backup-original-rom/
In reply #5, user C3C0 raised a method of backing up the original stock ROM without root. But it seems he is flashing CWM and that method is only for ZTE Skate.
adb backup tool of Android SDK
At the first sight i came across this approach, I thought it is the official method to do whole system (ROM) backup (WOW - how nice!). But after studying for a few more posts, I think adb backup can only backup app+app_data, and possibly some system settings only. Am I correct? And also, adb backup is only for ICS (Android 4.0), isn't it?
adb backup usage: ht tp://forum.xda-developers .com/showthread.php?t=1420351
(But mentioned in the bottom of #1 the poster is having some issues on using adb backup. Perhaps there are some bugs and not reliable(?)
One more question on adb backup: Can it backup just one app+app_data, and restore just one app+app_data, without affecting other things? If yes, we don't need to root and don't need Titanium Backup (which requires root) for backup app+app_data. Isn't it?
** In case I have said anything or any terms wrongly in this thread, please DO correct me, for helping me and helping others.
P.S. i am using LG Optimus 3D.
Thanks a lot, wholeheartedly,

I'm in the same issue here, looking for a way to backup/extract the stock rom of the HW-T18, cat B10 model, for the purpose of flashing it to other B10's since several of the cat b10's we bought here is without danish and a few has the danish system language.
so i want to take the rom from the b10 with danish and flash to the ones without.
if there is a better way of adding a system language to the phone please let me know (apk maybe ? or flashing an update.zip containing the danish lang) but do remember i'm not a dev i just have ORD.

That's not correct, not every phone has a clockworkmod built for it, my phone is a alcatel authority, and not only is there no clockworkmod, but the newest update.zip, unroots it, and sorceforge only has the the stock update. In any case the manufacturer has put the wrong id's into their usb drivers for it. You can't even use the clockworkmod builder, for it. The only phones that get support, are the more popular models.
does the bootloader need to be unlocked for this to work

Not all fonts are compatible with all phones unfortunately it's mostly trial and error. You should be able to get your phone past the boot logo by wipping dalvik cache and doing a factory reset. Next time I would recommend making a nandroid backup before making any modifications.

The easiest way is to use the update.zip boot into stock recovery and keep hitting reinstall packages I normally have to do it three or four times. Make sure you have a new ROM to flash so that when it goes into clockwork finally you can flash it and keep root. If you don't flash a new ROM it will automatically take you to stock recovery every time you try to reeboot recovery

how do I check this ? I have downloaded the zip from the link which I have added in previous post its based on 4.1.

BTW, you are running an old, no longer supported version of miui.
Also I wouldn't use ROM manager at all.

EDIT: Thanks and Rate Thread added like i always do. Cheers!
It seems that at least for me the recovery fails at completing my backups, it says they are completed, but the size is just half (or even less) of the actual size of my system partition and after restoring each and every backup I make my phone fails to boot.
Good recovery. Very fast and very complete.
The only way to install it on one x + and flash it from the bootloader with the terminal.

The only problem I see is that the battery level is always stuck at 66%... would it be possible to fix it?

Does it work for at&t/telus?
I doubt it given its built for the international version, I would be careful not to flash this on at AT&T device incase you brick it.

Well if you don't have S-Off then yes, cause the boot and recovery partitions are locked.
Why is it not working for me? I am INT , got CWM installed, and i install from zip, says complete, I restart the recovery and its still the same old CWM.. ?

Because you need to flash recovery and boot images in bootloader using fastboot from the pc, the boot and recovery partitions are locked if you don't have S-Off...
