Nexus 10 Charges faster if it is on - Nexus 10 General

I don't know if it is unique to my Nexus 10 but I've observed that it charges much faster if it is on (not turned off) during the charging process. I've verified this with the provided charger as well as with several others. All the chargers had at least 2.0 amp capacity. I use a Pogo cable normally but this is also the case with the micro USB socket.
This seems to be counter intuitive but it's certainly true with my Nexus 10. Currently it is running Android 4.4.4.

I almost always charge while powered off because it makes sense that it would be faster. It always seems to take FOREVER! Now that I've read this I think I'm going to have to time it and see which way wins.

I'd be most interested to see if you find the same thing I did. Frankly, what I observed seens counter to everything I've ever read about this. Thanks.

Hi,
It does indeed charge faster, but when charging while it's off it seems to solve some problems with battery calibration and battery last longer .

Hi,
Nexus 10 has a 9,000mAh battery, while Nexus 7 (2013) has an almost 4,000mAh and Nexus 7 more or less 4,350mAh, that's why there's a big difference between the charging times.

Definitely not what I have seen in my usage. Sometimes when I am playing a game on my Nexus 10 while it is plugged in, the battery percent drops, albeit slowly...

Yeah, games suck a lot of juice, especially with high brightness. The device is sucking more juice than can be replaced by the charger

Battery is slow to charge?

Whats up with the slow charge time of the battery? I hate to compare apples to androids...but my old iphone's charged quick enough. ~1.5 hrs went from 10%-100% easily. my phone was at 10% so I connected it to the charger about 2 hrs ago. currently its at 22%. did I miss something?
I charge pretty slowly too, not 22% an hr, but it takes me a good 3 hours from 0 to 100%. Hopefully there is a way to charge this phone faster
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
That does seem slow, but I do think the SGS II will charge slower than iPhone. Last time I took my phone to dead it was 4-5 hours for a full charge, with almost no use. I generally charge my phone at work, after lunch I am generally at 50-60%, and can usually get upto 100% before I leave barely, in about 2 hours, with light Pandora or web browsing.

I had a couple from them for my iPhone (before they got pulled off the site a while back) and had zero issues. Not to say they're all perfect... but my experiences have been positive.
3-4 hours for the wall charger (4%->100%) depending on how much I fiddle with it.
Much longer via USB (4-5).
The samsung charger puts out a lower current than the iPhone charger. .7A v 1A. Charging by USB is generally .5A.

Yea, same issue here. I just go the Galaxy S2 for few days and charging is an issue. 4+ hours to a full charge(not good), so I got the iPhone usb charger(coming from iphone 3g,4) and it's charging faster now .7A vs 1A (not sure if it would do any harm).

Questions for an att optimus g user

The optimus g will probably be my next phone and I have a few questions that I'm hoping someone could answer for me please
1.The last android phone I bought from att(like forever ago) was restricted to where I could not install apk files out of the box. I was wondering if you can install apps from apk files or if att restricted unknown sources.
2. Does usb otg work? It's not a big deal, but I'm still curious on the status of that?
3. How's the battery? I've seen a lot of different reviews with different battery lives.
4. Lastly, how do you like your optimus g?
Sent from my X10i using xda premium
1. yes it works no problem
3. so far battery pretty good
4. so far like it, just hoping for bootloader to be unlocked soon and hopefully CM10 comes to optimus
usb OTG should work for some peripherals... Not sure what the resistance is on this device so like a usb keyboard may not... Usually if MHL works OTG will with some tweaking.

my battery life is abismal, on my second handset. To be honest, the quad core really doesnt equate to much, a little snappier for the user, my s3 was fantastic on battery life, and the camera was better too. I really am not seeing this phone as an upgrade, the only reason i got this device is that it might possibly get a quicker port of the nexus 4 rom, and offer lte.
I just got a day out of mine with 3+ hours of screen time first charge. I know it won't always be that way but so far I'm happy with it. I too had a gs3 and I've noticed a big speed increase on thus phone. I think it was a good upgrade. Better screen as well.

LOL, I literally replaced an xperia x10 with a LGOG, last Friday. It's a HUGE jump in performance. First battery cycle was less than idea (~10 hrs of more than moderate use), but after, I turned off a few items that didn't need to be running (e.g., wifi) and set some reasonable parameters on sync frequency, I had 30% battery, last night, before going to bed, after 15 hrs of moderate use.
AT&T gives you 14 days to find out if you like it or not. It takes several charge discharge cycles to get the anode and cathode in the battery all excited and functioning at peak efficiency. You people that rage at poor battery after a couple of days drive me crazy.

Battery is non removable, so if you need a spare, you may need to wait for a charging case like they have for the iPhone.

I have progressed from an international s3 (i9300) to a Google Nexus (which I liked better even though no LTE, Google Wallet made up for that). I just replaced the Nexus, whose power button died, with the Optimus G. If I could get Google Wallet to work it would be the best of the three.
No one has mentioned the feel of the G versus the S3. It feels much more substantial and solid. The quad-core and LTE make it super fast.
Lastly, I am hoping that it will be easy to port the Nexus 4 ROM to the Optimus G leaving me with a Quad-core LTE Nexus 4.

It will depend on the kind of use that you give to the phone and how you administer the use of the Eco Mode, Bluetooth and GPS.
I have it with Facebook, Twitter, 2 Gmail accounts, 1 Exchange account, almost all Google apps installed, watch at least 3 youtube videos (during free time at the office), texting all day long, Twitter, 4g and LTE most of the day, Wifi at home, brightness in 60%, GPS off (Except for Ingress) and I have it in Eco Mode except when I'm playing. Power Saver active at 50% and all that give me from 6am to close to 9pm (depending on the day).
The main things that drains the battery on the device (by my experience) is:
- Brightness over 75%
- GPS
- Bluetooth is a killer
- Camera is another killer
all that without Eco Mode and you will eat the battery in less than 6 hours.
I got some NFC stickers for the house, office and car, helping me enable and disable features along the way during the day and it helps with the battery a lot (only have enabled what's necessary at the right place).
Hope it helps.

I too am leaning very heavily towards the LGOG versus the Nexus 4 (possibly even the HTC One X+). I'm coming from a Dell Streak whose battery has seen it's better days (about 4-5 hours on a full charge). I definitely know I'm in for a treat as far as performance goes no matter which way I go, but I'm wondering how long it will take to get a 4.2 port on the LGOG. As a non-dev, I'm totally clueless on the process, but my thinking is that there can't be many differences between the two.
My main questions is now that it looks like the LTE radio may actually work link for the N4, is the only difference going to be the sd slot? Granted that is a huge + in the OG column, but so is software updates for the N4 if it's going to be a difficult port. I know that this is a new phone and the bootloader was just unlocked, but realistically, what kind of updates from the dev community can we expect for this device?

Stop asking about battery life and learn to condition it. You'll save a lot of money.

You iPad does 10 hours of gaming?
The ipad does have a 11560 mah battery and a screen that needs less back lighting. Also the cpu probably uses a good chunk of the battery on the nexus 10. could you go into the battery info and tell us what percent the display is using?
---------- Post added at 06:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:37 AM ----------
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ipad-3-benchmark-retina-display,3157-4.html <-- ipad 3 battery life isn't much better.
Sucks
Sorry, but I can run my S3 out in half that time playing a high end game.
Pushing those kind of pixels on a screen that size for 2.5 hours, plus another 2.5 hours of screen on is not bad going.
Further more, you can't possibly have had your N10 long enough yet to have properly charge cycled your battery 4 or 5 times, which builds its stamina.
I received mine at 11am yesterday, on factory charge (it was approx 60%), and playing with it most of the day yesterday, and for several hours last night (although admittedly no gaming) it only reached low battery (3%) when I woke up this morning.
The Display used 61%, need for speed used 21%
2.5h playing, full cpu, moving that amount of pixels, and 2.5h more, it's kinda good, man...
2,5 hours of gaming and 2,5 hours of web browsing? Thats useless for me..
I would say the A15 CPU ist more effiecient compared to previous tabs. Btw remember the high amount of pixel...so it is good
Sorry, misstyped.
It were only 1,5h of need for speed and 2,5h of surfing. So 4h in total!
The concern is that the N10 discharges while gaming even on the charger, why I didn't rush to buy one on first day. Best to always read true user reviews first before hitting the store.

It's don't really see that as an issue, I own plenty of devices that work like this, if anything its better for your battery, because first, it's slow charging, which is better for the battery, second, it's getting charged cycled even if it's always plugged in, which is good for its lifetime.

If they had used something other than a micro USB to charge it this would be fine. I saw a pogo charter in a thread but I'm sure it will cost $55++ which is stupid because it should have been standard with the device

I had an iPad 3, and now have the Nexus 10. The battery life is a little better on the iPad, but not hugely so. That's with both devices at full brightness.
I can get 6-7 hours out of the Nexus and I was getting maybe 8 out of the iPad. Hardly a massive deal, especially considering this is a considerably lighter device with a bigger screen. Who has 6 hours a day to sit on their tablet anyway? I know if I did, I wouldn't have had to money to buy it in the first place!
As for charging: Yes, it's slow. It was also just as slow on my ipad. Am I missing something here? If you guys are seeing that as a deal-breaker, my advice is to stay well away from the iPad!

I think it's always a good idea to run the unit ONCE until it shuts off as soon as possible after getting it, just so you really know where zero is. It's not conditioning, just a way to help with calibration.
It's been my experience that new Android devices can run for many minutes after the battery meter was showing 0-1%. In one case it was over an hour (Tab 8.9).
Ok....I feel absolutely stupid and must be missing something but...how can I check the screen on time? It is just not listed under Battery as it is on the Xoom or the Galaxy Nexus for example

Battery life usually improves after a few complete discharge/full recharge cycles.
What's the output on the bundled charger, 1A, 2A?
Anyhow, it's a trade-off. With the Nexus 10 you get the best screen and the most powerful tablet so I can live with the battery life. Plus, I'll be alternating between it and a Galaxy Note 10.1 as one charges.

HTC one slow to charge?

Like the title days, is it just me or is the HTC one slow to charge? I cane home from work last night at 8:30 with 15% battery and by time I went to bed at 12:30 my battery was only charged to about 65%. I'm rooted running the cm10.1 ROM if it matters. Thanks.

One theory is HTC set the charging rate lower than it could have, since the battery isn't replaceable. A lower charge rate might equate to longer overall battery life (in terms of how many charges it will take and the battery weardown during its lifetime).
That being said, there are custom kernels that allow a higher charging rate. You have to use a higher amp charger than came with the phone however.

Just to throw in some info on the battery life of the watch. Mine has never gone below 40% by end of day with normal use so don't worry about the watch dieing, if that was even a concern. Its hard for me to weigh in on phone battery life, I have the Flex and I'm getting about 2 days one charge, unless I game for hours with it. I Think its adding a few hours.
Took my watch off charge at 7:50am today its now 15:10PM and I have 65% battery still.
Using following settings :
1. Screen always on
2. Show cards even when screen dimmed
3. Alert on phone and watch
4. Brightness level - 1
Usage has been quite High because its the first day I have used it, sent about 20 Texts and done some maths with it, also it seems there are problems with the software and after awhile it seems to disconnect from my nexus 5 even if the software on my phone thinks its still paired.
As for phone battery its reporting in battery stats nothing regarding android wear, and im at 60% battery from the morning and i have hardly used my phone apart from trying to figure out why stuff is refusing to pair or even work.
I also use CM11 nightlys and the snapdragon battery app on my N5 this might have something to do with all the disconnects

I disabled location reporting again. Will see if that has any effect on phone battery vs any loss of functionality on the wear. But I'm very happy so far.

Watch on since 7am to 9:30pm. Watch at 13% and phone at 64% with 1.5 hours on screen time.
I am now using my phone about 50% less.
Love it!
