I was so happy holding my Nexus10 in my hands.
But now, I'm pretty disappointed.
My fully charged N10 went down to 8% with Playing 2,5h Need for Speed Most Wanted + 2,5h other Display-on Time (mostly surfing, News App and Facebook Chatting)
I mean, FIVE hours? Come on Google, thats not even half the time I can reach with an Ipad

You iPad does 10 hours of gaming?
The ipad does have a 11560 mah battery and a screen that needs less back lighting. Also the cpu probably uses a good chunk of the battery on the nexus 10. could you go into the battery info and tell us what percent the display is using?

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ipad-3-benchmark-retina-display,3157-4.html <-- ipad 3 battery life isn't much better.
Sucks
Sorry, but I can run my S3 out in half that time playing a high end game.
Pushing those kind of pixels on a screen that size for 2.5 hours, plus another 2.5 hours of screen on is not bad going.
Further more, you can't possibly have had your N10 long enough yet to have properly charge cycled your battery 4 or 5 times, which builds its stamina.
I received mine at 11am yesterday, on factory charge (it was approx 60%), and playing with it most of the day yesterday, and for several hours last night (although admittedly no gaming) it only reached low battery (3%) when I woke up this morning.
The Display used 61%, need for speed used 21%
2.5h playing, full cpu, moving that amount of pixels, and 2.5h more, it's kinda good, man...
2,5 hours of gaming and 2,5 hours of web browsing? Thats useless for me..
I would say the A15 CPU ist more effiecient compared to previous tabs. Btw remember the high amount of pixel...so it is good
Sorry, misstyped.
It were only 1,5h of need for speed and 2,5h of surfing. So 4h in total!
The concern is that the N10 discharges while gaming even on the charger, why I didn't rush to buy one on first day. Best to always read true user reviews first before hitting the store.

It's don't really see that as an issue, I own plenty of devices that work like this, if anything its better for your battery, because first, it's slow charging, which is better for the battery, second, it's getting charged cycled even if it's always plugged in, which is good for its lifetime.

If they had used something other than a micro USB to charge it this would be fine. I saw a pogo charter in a thread but I'm sure it will cost $55++ which is stupid because it should have been standard with the device
4 hours of game/screen time is awful...I can easily get 8-9 out of my Asus infinity gaming/streaming/netflix while only taking 2-3 hours to fully charge. The slow I/o just kills that tablet for me though...

I had an iPad 3, and now have the Nexus 10. The battery life is a little better on the iPad, but not hugely so. That's with both devices at full brightness.
I can get 6-7 hours out of the Nexus and I was getting maybe 8 out of the iPad. Hardly a massive deal, especially considering this is a considerably lighter device with a bigger screen. Who has 6 hours a day to sit on their tablet anyway? I know if I did, I wouldn't have had to money to buy it in the first place!
As for charging: Yes, it's slow. It was also just as slow on my ipad. Am I missing something here? If you guys are seeing that as a deal-breaker, my advice is to stay well away from the iPad!

It's not that bad.
Mine was 60 out of the box, plugged into wall and came back 2 hours later it was fully fine
Swype'd at pace from my Galaxy S2
I think it's always a good idea to run the unit ONCE until it shuts off as soon as possible after getting it, just so you really know where zero is. It's not conditioning, just a way to help with calibration.
It's been my experience that new Android devices can run for many minutes after the battery meter was showing 0-1%. In one case it was over an hour (Tab 8.9).
Ok....I feel absolutely stupid and must be missing something but...how can I check the screen on time? It is just not listed under Battery as it is on the Xoom or the Galaxy Nexus for example
Click on the Display Entry in your Battery statstic!
Battery life usually improves after a few complete discharge/full recharge cycles.
What's the output on the bundled charger, 1A, 2A?
Anyhow, it's a trade-off. With the Nexus 10 you get the best screen and the most powerful tablet so I can live with the battery life. Plus, I'll be alternating between it and a Galaxy Note 10.1 as one charges.

Hi,
What is the battery life we may expect from a Galaxy S2 ? Mine (from fully charged) lasted only 3-4 hours surfing the web using 3G, maybe including some wifi usage, however screen was dimmed down. Isn't the battery supposed to last a little longer ? The phone is new and I am on the third day now. Is there anything wrong with my device or will battery performance improve after some battery cycles ?

Mate 3g browsing on the sgs2 does kill that battery in 3-4 hours max.. that is actually the time scale most reviews give.. i know its a pain i hate it myself, but ull find generally using the phone ie camera, music etc gives you a longer battery. The browser rocks! but its a serious power drinker, i did discover that some sites are saying that using a 3rd party browser helps things abit e.g dolphin or opera. It has something to do wiv the gpu accelaration which enables u to do things like play 1080p videos in the stock browser and the constant smooth perfomance
oh and i found the battery does improve after a few cycles, but i think thats mainly due to the fact u tend to not be constantly playing with the phone al the time
Yep, 4 hours tops for me screen on usage.
Using Juice Defender which helps a bit..
Abouth the battery...
Earlier this evening my phone was at 28%, when i picked it back up an hour later it was 31%????
I watched the battery graph and it showed a Yellow line going upwarts slitghtly., is that strange??
Afterwards i saw green going down and than up again. I will post a pic of it.
Seriously, there are 5+ battery threads already, what is so specific about your case you felt the need to start a completely new discussion on it????

I wonder what would happen if people actually used their phones for talking.
I pre ordered this and waiting shipment. I can compare with the atrix i had, that the battery life was not to shabby but it had a 1900mah battery.
You can't expect amazing battery life with this phone
4.3inch screen
AMOLED+
1.2ghz CPU.
if they made the phone a bit thicker a tiny bit they could of put a bigger battery in there but samsung wants to compete with apple on thinest phones.

For battery drain, are you in balanced power mode? The display would be the next thing I would check. Make sure your do not have the brightness up too high or that new IPS+ brightness feature turned up for outdoor viewing.

even with low brightness, having it in Normal mode drains the fastest. normal mode is when Prime is running at Max power. combine that with web surfing slot and that's the cause. web surfing puts a strain on battery as its constant using more n more ram n rendering pages, etc.. even so it seems you should be getting better battery life even with that configuration. do you have alot of Widgets set up to update very frequently? do u have your email set up to update frequently? do u have something else rubbing in the background that you're not aware of? all of those things will cause battery to drain faster.
if you want the best battery life and power use balanced mode instead. even in balanced mode, its far more powerful than the galaxy tab or xoom you mentioned. make sure to check for those other things mentioned also. you should get better battery life than that though even in normal mode. you could also decrease the display timeout.
since the normal battery usage setting that shows apps battery usage is bugged in HC in prime, go to the market place. download a free app called Android Assistant. its 18 tools in one. on there it has an app battery usage sections and you can check there to see what's been draining battery the most aside from display. .

plus technically its still too early for battery to be fully broken in and calibrated yet. it has to go through several full charge and discharge cycles before it gets to optimal battery performance.
I'm at around a day on normal with auto brightness. Use it mostly to browse the web and xda. Play a few games as well.
Yeah battery isnt as good as everyone makes it out to be. Since i got it on dec 23rd I have had to charge it up every night.
In the morning its at 100% (10am) then I take it with me to work, usally dont even have time to use it but sometimes i do. On a day that I dont end up using it at work at all, by the time I get home its at 93% (decent for being idle 10 hours, my hp touchpad is around 95% after my 10 hour work day and ipad 2 sits at 99-98%). then i start actually using the device, 10pm - 2am and im down to 50%. This is with very light use, checking email and usally watching a movie on the sdcard. By the time i goto bed its about 20% (3am).
So overall the battery is "OK". Gets about or close to what other tablets are getting in terms of battery life. My ipad 2 gets about 10 hours no matter what i do (gaming, browsing, videos). Asus Prime gets about 7-8 light use (email, sdcard movies, sd music) and about 6 hours heavy use (gaming and browsing).
Settings on my PRIME:
Balanced mode
10% brightness
super IPS + off
GPS off, Bluetooth off.

The prime is advertised as having 12 hours battery life when your using the device, not in idle... you are obviously trolling anyone that has something bad to say about the prime, Its shameful.
This is with heavy to light use. Wifi it always on. Screen set to auto. On normal mode. I have only charged it when the battery dies completely and don't unplug it until it is at 100% for awhile. There was 1 or 2 times where I charged before it died completely.

In all honesty, considering how much the device lags at times according to reports, I can't imagine running it in any other mode than Normal. I'd understand if the other modes would be lag-free for light activities like browsing, but they are not. At the moment, Normal is the 'best you get' in a bad situation.

this is funny as I run mines in balanced mode most of the time. its always lag free. what reports of lag you speak of? lol even when I put it in battery savings mode its smooth as hell. these so called reports along with others really have people who don't even own device misinformed. most so called reports here on general show device moves fast n smoothly. there has only been 1 video of so called lag in browser and that was trivial. as people thought video didn't really represent what was going on. other than that, there has been no proof of so called lag. especially coming from major reviews before release and after. I've basically used my tab nonstop and have a whole lot of stuff installed on mines with Widgets and live wallpapers and no lag at all what so ever. it'll be different of proof was out there bit there isn't. as far as memory goes funny how some new tabs announced with 2gb of RAM and now suddenly 1gb is not enough or its a little..lol. of course o would rather wish this had 2gb ram tl start off with but it doesn't. from what I can tell it doesn't hamper performance at all and seems to be enough.
ill just end this here. I could go on n on debunking these so called reports but not worth the time. it'll be different if it was a valid argument like GPS. which we know isn't working properly. as far as wifi, lag n everything else goes, its all trivial at best. as my device performs perfectly aside from GPS, which I've never fully tested yet. I'm a good candidate for using the tablet more than most considering use it for work also. so I'm day in and day out on this tablet. even developers who have posted reviews of prime are more than satisfied with performance. tell them the so called reports n see what they tell you in return..lmao
yup horrrible battery life #sarcasm

Do not believe this. It depends on how the person count it. I count ONLY the time of "Screen on". Some people makes Prime to sleep for 10 hours + work of 4 hours and they say their primes work for 14 hours
So after using the tablet if in options (battery monitor app) I see 6 hours of display on and I have 3% to go then I can tell my Prime works 6 hours on a single recharge.
That is the way it should be counted. Because you can;t work on tablet when screen is off right? (maybe if you listen to music)

And? What's wrong with this? It's normal for webbrowsing.
Well we have different ways of thinking when saying battery life.
I'm always on Normal w/ IPS @ about 20%. I've never had to use Super IPS mode even on a sunny day. IPS to 80-90% in the bright sun and is very lucid (and I live in AZ where we've been having 85 degree weather lately!)
That being said, I get so much out of the Prime and I've only drained it twice. Last night I drained it after 2 days of decent usage and no charging. I've been marathoning 'Homeland' on my laptop and using my Prime for everything else. I'd say I've had about 16 hours of entire usage over the past couple days. I did power the Prime off before sleeping to compare it's percentage loss to when it is asleep to when powered off so perhaps it's not a fair assessment, but I did use it quite heavily including streaming youtube, regular browsing, downloading apps, trying to get a lock on GPS and playing a flash game.
I think we should measure battery life only with screen on time, the problem right now is that the prime doesn't show the battery stats. Anyother way or app to have battey stats?

Wow...Really? I had the Atrix as well and could get well over 30 hours of charge on it after about a year. The first few months I was seeing between 12 and 20 hours. For me it seemed the longer I had it the better the battery life was.
I'd frequently have it unplugged from 6 AM to 1 AM daily and have 60% left. That may be because all my usage came over a consolidated period of time and the rest of the time was light usage.
My first Android phone was the original Droid...I was able to coax around 24 hours out of it...but I was rooted with a custom ROM and a LV overclock kernel for it.
I'm hoping that I can get at least 14 hours with the Note on the same sort of routine...not so much this week because I don't want to put it down! LOL...my usage has gone from Light/Moderate to HEAVY...I fully expect to be able to hit this after a few more charge cycles (provided my usage goes back to normal...with the screen size I can see myself using this more than the Atrix, so we'll just have to see).
Over 20 hours of use with wifi, Bluetooth, LTE, auto-brightness, web browsing, video playing, texting, emailing and forum posting.
Yea, that's 5h 14m "screen on" time, too. 5.3 inch LTE device with those battery stats - yea, I'm happy. If your expectations are any higher you're delusional. 100% stock.

I want to select 14-16, but in this poll are you implying that at 16 hours I need to hit the charger or turn it off? This is rather subjective because I have a few friends that consider a phone "dead" the minute it hits 30%. Hell even the custom power saving profile is defaulted to kick in at 30%.
16 hours from my workday wake up time is only 11PM. I'd like to think if I decide to go out on the weekends I don't need to worry about charging up unless I've been using the phone like crazy throughout the day.
So we are at 10-12 hours so far in the poll. I hope we can get more input.
It's just $25 for TWO (semi-decent) spare batteries and a charger on Amazon... so no worries!
That said, the first few days with this phone have been rough! I've been using it so damn much that I have to plug it in at just 6 or 7pm when I get home from work. (DOH!) I'm sure my usage will go down a little after the honeymoon period wears off (maybe?). Luckily, though, my spare batteries are set to arrive today... so it's all good!
I am seriously thinking about returning my Sony Tablet S.
I can't seem to get more than 3 hours out of this without a charge.
I play a full movie with wifi/GPS on and then i am down to 30%.
I do have it rooted and most of the bloat apps is gone. I check the battery indicator constantly and the biggest app using battery seems to be android so nothing is zapping my battery life.
Any ideas?
I think something is wrong with you're tablet, mine lasts for more then 8 hours without root.
So yes, return it and ask for a replacement.

When I first used my tablet the battery seemed to be gone in no time. I have found that reducing the backlight manually has helped. I would say there was a definite difference.
Thanks for all the responses.
Problem is this is for my kid. He don't really have the patience to wait for charges every day.

I have decent battery life ( 6+ hours) but one thing that makes me wonder is the idle time.
5 hours of screen time is less power consuming than the tablet being 20 hours in idle. Has anyone the same experience?
Yes. In my case it's the 3G modem. Turn it off generally and only on when you use it.
If I compare this case with my iPad I have to say, that the 3G modem in the sony uses much more energy in idle than in my iPad.
My Tablet is WiFi-only. And WiFi shuts down when the screen goes off.
Battery use:
Tablet idle ------------ 49% --> 15h 8m 57s
Screen---------------- 37% --> 4h 56m 31s
Is this strange behaviour or am I just paranoid since this is a totally different battery usage than on a phone( e.g Sensation)?

Battery use:
Tablet idle ------------ 49% --> 15h 8m 57s
Screen---------------- 37% --> 4h 56m 31s
Is this strange behaviour or am I just paranoid since this is a totally different battery usage than on a phone( e.g Sensation)?

I report the same type of stats...
Its using a lot of battery in sleep mode. But sometimes it doesn't, sometimes sleep mode last way longer but most of the time its about 25-30 hours in sleep mode and that is way too much...
I hope ICS will fix this, if not i may return mine.
And not 2g/3g/4g here, no celular radio here.. So, its not that.

USB??? you mean internal SD card (/mnt/sdcard)?
Yes. That's what I mean.

Hmm. You do realise playing videos and having the wifi on in the background will cane the battery? Even more so if you're streaming said videos to your device via wifi. No doubt you've got the screen turned up full brightness as well?
Mine runs perfectly well and can last for a couple DAYS between charges, depending of course on how I use it.
Follow the tips provided by the others, you might get a fix. If not, get a new one from Sony. It's not a problem with Android - I suspect if you watch hours and hours of movies on an iPad you will still experience excessive battery drain because of the intensive nature of what you're doing!
Thanks for all the suggestions. If the tablet is for me to use daily, I probably would have condition the battery, try to delete all and then restart. However, it is for my kid and frankly it is unacceptable that a brand new tablet after watching one movie (just regular mp4 file i installed into the internal SD) is down to 30% charge.
I won't even start with the rest of the things i am disappointed with; the missing 6 gigs on the 16 gig, the screen little darker than i wanted (the screen protector I don't like at all), and frankly honeycomb in general is not that crispy and well developed.
I did end up getting a Ipad 2. After watching 1 movie, the thing still got 80% juice left....is night and day. Screen is sharper and brighter and most importantly it last more than a day without charge.
I don't want to hype about ipad here and i am still an android fan (i got 2 android phones), but the ipad really is WOW compared to the current corp of android tablets. Yes i am disappointed i won't be able to "tweak" the ipad like i can with droid pads, but Apple OS is so much better developed than honeycomb or ICS for that matter that really you can live without the tweaking.
For all you guys, with Wi-fi only (and 3G if you like the solution), before putting it to sleep put the device in flight mode. I've done it on mine and it was asleep for 4 days while I went out on a journey and when I came back only 30% of battery was gone...
I honestly can only fault the ipad in the sense that a media device, that for all intensive purposes is basically a more convenient option than a laptop, does not have flash support. Quick web browsing on tablets is great but it's useless without flash :S. Damn apple. Other than that I think the iPad is pretty great, especially now that the pricing for the new iPad has become alot sharper than in the price. Obviously to combat the success of Android tablets of late. But all I want out of a tablet is a bit of web browsing here and there, a couple games now and then and a nice digital photo frame to boot
I don't know about everyone else, but I have no desire to flash the crap out of my Sony tablet like I do with my SGS2. Now that I have root access it's doing everything I wanted it to do (and should have done!) from the start. So long is it's stable and responsive I'll be happy with it for a few years at least.
I was never happy with my tablet from day one but for me it was just software - sluggish and app incompatibility - a factory reset and root has fixed all that now. Never once have I had an issue with battery life. Sure as hell out-does any gameboy/ds/psp I've owned. Standby will last weeks if I don't touch it too.
So to those of you getting around 1-2 days standby time, something is seriously wrong with your tablet. There must either be a fault with your battery itself, or some app has gone rogue and just keeps it awake the whole time. i dont think any type of conditioning your battery will heed any results;
I didn't condition my battery at all when I got it and it's just fine. I played it with the 5% charge it had out of box till it died, got home, charged a bit, played with it till it shut off again, then when it got about 1/2 full just took it off charge and played with it again. Now it normally gets charged every friday whether it needs it or not.
My Galaxy S II (and pretty much any Android evice I've picked up) has a usable battery life of 45 minutes. I unplug the phone at 9 A.M. in the morning after charging it to 100%. By 12 in the afternoon I would have browsed the Internet, checked social apps and played a few rounds of a game for what feels like 45 minutes in total. By then the battery is at 30% and I have to put it away in fear of it dying before I get home. The phone is useless for the rest of the day. My iPhone 4 with its 3 year old battery lasts 2 days like this.
No wakelocks, 99% deep sleep. I have a 3200mAh battery which feels like it lasts 1.5 hours before I have to put it away in fear. Basically the phone is not usable at all due to the user being in constant fear of the battery dying.
If I don't use the phone at all it's down to 20% by the end of the day with no wakelocks and 99% deep sleep. If I don't use my iPhone 4 with its 3 year old battery, it still lasts 20 days.

Well, or you buy a new battery for the S2 or you keep going with your "stylish" i phone. The world is not complicated and phones are not rocket science.
And by the way, games drain battery hard, very hard.
Charge at work, upgrade the battery or stick with your iPhone.
I tip my hat to you and wish you a good day.

I hope you checked with BBS, if so and as you said "99% of deep sleep", it means that the games are draining your battery.Well, sometimes even a "newish" battery can be faulty.Try with different battery,I mean a good one for sure. And if your results are the same, stop playing those freakin' games.

I do. The battery actually drains while charging if I'm using the phone.

Yes I use BBS and have completely disabled all bloatware using Autostarts. I have the original battery and the Mugen Power 3200mAh battery. The battery life is proportional to with the capacity of the batteries I've used.
The primary use of my phone is mobile gaming. I don't care about the phone part except for receiving push notifications for email, IMs etc. which I then reply to on the PC anyway.
My SG2 and pretty much every Android device I pick up has 45 minutes of battery... Either you have won the lottery and got a defect phone several times or there is something fishy going on..
My sg3 lasted for 24 hours, my s4 last for a couple of days, my motorola razr lasted a week and my iphone 4 went for a day and sometimes 24 hours..
Even if I stress test my sg4 and s3 all the time it would last for a lot loooonger than 45 minutes..
I know the games will use a lot of juice but 45 minutes? Something is wrong...
What kind of games are we talking about? I do not play so much myself, just online poker, some tetris and so on, my iphone and android phones is pretty similar when talking about these games...
You could go for a Nintendo Game Boy etc
That said I taught ICS used less battery than JB. And it's pretty weird if you have the mugen battery. My Razer had a 3300 battery and that would go for days, even with heavy usage.

I've extensively used the Galaxy S, Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Nexus One, Nexus S. All of them can be used heavily (3G, gaming) for just 45-60 minutes before the battery is low and you have to save it for the rest of the day.
Simply listening to music for 2 hours in the gym drains 35% battery! WTF? This is without any equaliser and while using an external headphone amplifier. I could listen to music for 2-3 hours a day for 1 week on my old iPod touch before needing to charge it.

With zero usage and I mean barely switching on the screen once or twice to check the time, my 3200mAh Mugen battery is at 55% by evening. No wakelock, full deep sleep. The original battery will be below 20% or dead with zero usage.

Maybe you usually install a battery discharger app?
Never had such behaviour.

Possibly a crap battery, but im going to suggest you don't use the samsung charger. The phone holds a wakelock whilst charging, keeping the phone running at 200Mhz, so unless you are delivering 650mA, your phone will die. Therefore I suggest you are using an unofficial charger, which doesn't deliver the needed 650mA, or you have an unofficial battery which wont accept 650mA. Either way, if you're not using Samsung appliances you shouldn't really be complaining about crap battery.

I am using the original Samsung charger and the original Samsung battery. I have an additional 3200mAh Mugen Power battery.
It drains faster than the charge rate only if I'm playing games.
Could be many things then, but as you say BBS doesnt report wakelocks, it would all just be conjecture. Try and pull a logcat after an hour or so of deepsleep and see if you notice anything untoward. Also, have you done simple things like turn WiFi off when you're not using it? That scans every 15 seconds or something. Or if you're in a crap phone signal area, your phone will keep scanning for and trying to connect to a better signal.

It's the phone obviously. Like I said if I put it in Aeroplane mode than the battery is still at 99% at the end of the day. If it's in normal mode it drains severely. I don't have this problem on any other phone. I've flashed the latest modem for my region and tried older modems for my region as well.
Not sure but it sounds like you have technical issues with your phone.
I have the official Samsung uprated battery and I loose about 60% out of the phone battery a day with heavy usage. Usually doesn't get to that point as I charge at work or home when not in use.
I take it as a given that all smart phones, tablets or laptops have ****e battery life.
Blanket generalisations about specific OS' or brands being superior to others is just silliness.
Saying that, when it comes to battery life, my HP Touchpad running CM 10.1 pisses all over any iOS device and the ghost of Steve Jobs agrees with me!

60% at the end of the day is a joke. It's unacceptable. Without use My iPhone 4 is at 95% at the end of the day with everything switched on and every possible syncing enabled. Why is it so hard for Samsung to produce a properly working phone after 5 years? I am 100% sure their latest phones like the Galaxy S 4 behave exactly the same way no matter what PR bull**** they try to spin.

Seems the iPhone is the device meant for you, for me in normal usage it lasts 2 and a half days altogether with the stock battery, heavy usage like a gameplay of Gamelofts Modern Combat series or N.O.V.A gives me 3 hours of continuous play after which the battery reaches around 7-10%, wifi in JB sadly kills my battery only gets around 6 hour's with continuous usage which was greater in my GB and ICS days.
But 95% at the end of the day for the iPhone 4 with everything ON is a bit of an exaggeration(the hell kind of unremovable battery is that?) don't you think?

Everything on with no use. Thats the drain in standby. My SGS2 drains whether I use it or not with everything on. In aeroplane mode, it stays at 99% without use.
