Make a backup of your original recovery !
Managed to build a booting CWM 6.0.5.0.
Managed to build a booting TWRP 2.7.1.0
Managed to build a booting Philz 6.55.0
Don't try it if your bootloader is locked!
It made a backup to external_sd (fat32) and the backup looks good.
Tested wipe/backup/restore/install of TWRP and PhilZ on my device and can confirm it is working.
Tested wipe/backup/restore/install of CWM tested by @eta82 and confirmed working. Thank you for testing.
At the moment i can recomend to use TWRP because we can use a backdoor of our device to enter recovery as long as factory reset works.
Warning: This will wipe your data!
You need a PC with ADB to enter TWRP without working system or kernel.
Follow this gude: Factory Resetting Using Hardware Keys
The fectory reset uses our custom recovery. TWRP activates ADB before wiping.
While TWRP wipes your data do: adb reboot recovery
This saved me from using the KDZ method while trying out CM11

This is a ZIPed recovery.img - It has to be unziped and the .img flashed directly via dd or use a flash app like flashify or Rashr.

Finally, something is going on with our phones!
I'm gonna try unlocking bootloader today, but tell me - how should I install this recovery? Pushing it via adb as recovery.img?
P.S. Would it work on D620r model also?

You are right, for got to mention it:
It is a ZIPed recovery.img - It has to be flashed directly via dd or use a flash app like flashify or Rashr.

I used Flashify app You mentioned, but I previously unpacked archive You provided and renamed image as "recovery.img".
Now all we need is - waiting for some custom rom!

Backup works, wipe cache works, reboot cammands too. I don't have tested restore. For installing zip I don't need this, because I normally use Flashify.

Woh, as I can see, we now have TWRP, too.
On my other devices I always use TWRP, so I 'm more familar with that. Has anybody tested this? At the moment I'm happy to have a working custom recovery, but in the future I think I 'll use TWRP.

The two zip files are not for flashing in an recovery.
You have to unpack them.
Then you will get a ***.img.
This can be either flashed via dd or you can use an app like flashify or Rashr.

Not sure about TWRP, but in CWM i had to use backup to external SD option to make it work. I have no idea why G2 Minis internal storage is called 'sdcard'

because it is called so.
you can find it as 'sdcard' or 'sdcard0' likewise

Oh, really?
I meant 'sdcard' was mainly used as microSD mounting point. Recovery saves there backups by default, so when our D2 Mini got internal storage mounted as 'sdcard' strange things may happen.
